Tinubu, Shettima in Osogbo

Published By: PM NEWS Editor
15th July, 2022

The Nigerian presidency has dismissed as false the report that the Department of State Services issued an advisory warning against a muslim-muslim presidential ticket.
In a statement Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant on media to President Buhari, described the report as a ‘false story’.
“We wish to advise well-meaning Nigerians to ignore a laughably puerile report by an apparently pirate online newspaper seeking to sow division and chaos on the choice of Governor Kashim Shettima as the Running Mate of our Party’s Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This so-called newspaper is like a deadly virus. Stay safe by keeping away from its toxic reports”, he said.
Fake news by Peoples Gazette
In a story published Friday, the People’s Gazette claimed to be privy to a report by the DSS which concluded that “Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to nominate a fellow Muslim as vice-presidential candidate for 2023 presidential election is a tailored recipe for renewed sectarian crises that could destabilise Nigeria”.
The report quoted sources but failed to authenticate it with any document.

This is something that the opposition needs to encourage so that ticket will lose the election.
PoliticsNo One Is Islamising Nigeria- The Cable by tinsel(op): 2:11pm On Jul 14, 2022
On the cusp of every political evolution in Nigeria, there is often a trafficking of recriminations — ‘’The north is scheming to dominate the south, and the south is angling to outwit the north’’. Syrupy conjectures and time-tested misconceptions. Crisis merchandisers are at their best stoking the tension as conspiracy theories of Islamisation surge in the public grid.
We will always have conspiracy theories and crisis merchandisers – for as long as unity and mutual trust remain elusive.
Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, has set off a tinderbox of reactions by his choice of running mate — Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno. Ordinarily, there should be no hue and cry over his decision. He is at liberty to decide who to walk and work with. But Nigeria has been diametrically sundered by years of attrition, hate-bartering and exhausting recriminations. Undoubtedly, the psychological mutilations from these years of anger will shape up to be the frustrations of the next administration.
Should Tinubu relinquish his right to choose a running mate he believes is loyal, competent and can help him win the presidential election so as to pacify those threatening Armageddon? I do not think it will be fair to relieve him of carte blanche in this regard. He is only a presidential candidate, and not yet the president. If he becomes the president in 2023, then it becomes a bounden and inescapable obligation for him to abide, through and through, by the constitutional stipulations of federal character.
I black out when conversations oscillate around religion and ethnicity. I think the issues we should be interrogating at this time are: Security; Economy; Education; Healthcare; Infrastructure. I would rather assess the presidential hopefuls by their blueprint on these fundamentals which directly affect me than flagellate over religion.
I believe Tinubu has his work cut out for him. He should reach out to the Christian community, their leaders and groups with tactile assurances, and that if he becomes president, he will build a country where all Nigerians can exist under justice, equity, peace and harmony and where no one will be excluded on the basis of religion or ethnicity.
He should going forward begin to show prospects of inclusion and of sensitivity to diversity in his disposition, plans and policy paradigms. It is important that he shows there will be no perpetuation of the current administration’s exclusivist proclivities which deepen national strife and insecurity.
Let me synopsise my thoughts with this poignant paragraph from ‘The Broken Truths; Nigeria’s Quest for National Cohesion’ – a book by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah. He wrote ever so candidly: ‘’God created us for a purpose and meaning in life. He is the Lord of History and time. However, for us Nigerians, God has become the greatest excuse for the inefficiency, corruption, and shameful degrading life of our people today. We are over 90% percent Christians and Muslims in Nigeria, but there is nowhere in the world where religion has become an incubus, a burden, and a source of dreadful violence as it has in Nigeria. Our leaders are constantly kneeling before pastors and imams seeking blessings while the rest of the world is moving on, drawing inspiration from sweat, brains and brawn without evoking God. We, on the other hand, evoke God to witness to our corruption and outright larceny.

PoliticsTinubu: Hundeyin’s Rehash Of Old Wives’ Tales - The Cable by tinsel(op): 1:27pm On Jul 14, 2022
The only set of people who think there is any kind of smoking gun with which to nail Bola Tinubu in the rehash of the old wives’ tales David Hundeyin concocted are the same people who never see anything good in Tinubu.

It needs to be asked how anyone could think the FBI and DEA will allow a drug dealer or a man running a drug cartel to go scot-free without conviction as well as leave him to go and live a lush life on the proceeds of crime. We are talking about the same man who goes in and out of the US and Europe since 1992. He actually resided in the US all through the exilic period induced by the late dictator, Sani Abacha.

Asiwaju Tinubu had gone to deliver lectures at top policy think-tank institutes like Chatham House, Woodrow Centre, Council on Foreign Relations, etc, in the US, UK and around Europe. He just returned from a two-week official visit to France. Yet, he was not a subject of interest for the FBI, Interpol and DEA all through.

We know the kind of efforts the FBI invests to get extradition of those on their wanted list for crimes. They spared no effort to get late Senator Buruji Kashamu for drug crime purportedly committed in the 90s. Former Vice President Atiku that was indicted in a corruption case in the US could not visit the country until a special arrangement was brokered for him before the 2019 general election. And since then, Atiku has not gone to the US again.

Tinubu has been travelling in and out of these countries and US unhindered, but someone wants us to accept that retailing the same old stories is a product of investigative reporting?

Here are three key issues of commonsense and rational thinking.

1. The US will not settle any case of drug and other narcotics dealings with money where a prima facie case is established against a drug baron.

2. The US government will never allow a drug dealer to go with any amount from proceeds of crime.

3. A man that has not been convicted of any crime in any country and jurisdiction of the world cannot be convicted by a disgruntled ‘investigative journalist’. If the US allowed Tinubu to go free without conviction of any drug crime and other crimes, it means the FBI and DEA and, indeed, all law enforcement agencies including IRS had no evidence upon which Tinubu can be found guilty.

Hundeyin knows his audience and how excitable and unquestioning they can be. With his misdirected crap on Tinubu, the ‘investigative journalist’ has again served his unthinking audience their regular opium.

Politics2023: LP Will Get At Least 15 Votes In Every Polling Unit, Says Pat Utomi by tinsel(op): 8:59pm On Jul 12, 2022
Pat Utomi, a political economist and former presidential candidate, says the Labour Party (LP) will get at least 15 votes in every polling unit in the 2023 general election.

Utomi, who was a presidential aspirant under LP, had stepped down his ambition for Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra.

Speaking on Tuesday in an interview on Channels Television, Utomi said the party has a structure that would be able to deliver needed votes to win the 2023 presidential election.

When asked about coalition talks with other parties, Utomi said there are leaders from the ruling party who are ready to work with Obi.

“With the structure that we have, I’m guaranteeing that on election day, in every polling station in this country, there would be at least 15 people who are standing up for the third force, who are going to be supporting the Labour candidate,” he said.

“The Labour Party is working with other political parties, several political parties. We are talking about a college of leaders led by the Labour candidate, and these leaders will come from parties, whether it’s PRP, APC, SDP, so many of them.

“All of those are going to work together, I can assure you.”

Meanwhile, as of June 2021, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had created over 56,000 new polling units, bringing the country’s total at the time to 176,846 units.
With Utomi’s projection, the LP says it is currently sure of at least 2,652,690 votes across the country.
