Dear Mukina I might not necessarily meet all the person spec requirements you've laid out but I can assure you that if given the opportunity, I will put in 150% in my performance. I know at interviews its not nice to be forward per say but can I just ask if flexible working is permitted and if one can work as a part-time Mod? I do hope that on consideration of my application you will be convinced of my ability to contribute immensely to "The Fashion forum" |
tanimola22: Hi,Can i just say that I understand your point on course based Masters etc. I wouldn't want to get into the technicalities and what obtains in Canada or the USA without doing proper research but can I ask what one is awarded in Canada after only taking classes for 1year? If a student is admitted into Uni to study for an MSc degree(1yr lectures/classes and 1 year research) but only completes the first year of study, What degree will such a student be awarded?? Speaking of PGDip, I beg to differ on your point that a PGDip is the last year of undergraduate studies. if PG mean Post graduate, how then can it be the last year of undergraduate studies? May I suggest that you state where such applies so one is not confused or misinformed (you know about it but some of us do not and can learn a thing or two). Please note that I haven't said that you're wrong in anyway. It is possible that what you have stated pertains to the US but not the UK. Having said that, can I also point out that in the UK, PGCert, PGDip and MSc students take the same lectures at what you would call "Masters level" and are most times in the same class but the distinguishing factors amongst the three are grades and dissertation. In a situation where a student has been offered a place to study for an MSc degree and s/he is unable to make up the credits to be awarded an MSc, s/he may end up with either a PGCert or PGDip. Also, it is possible to apply to study for any of the three degrees as one pleases. please see link http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/students/courses/postgraduate/taught/med/clinical-primary-comm-care.aspx. |
purpose100: With my little knowledge of academics in Nigeria, your friend may not be able to lecture with his MBA.I agree with you and you've made perfect sense. With the way things are in Naija, it's sometimes difficult to say what is acceptable or not. I agree with all you've writing. Bless! |
tanimola22: Graduate studies around the world are not necessarily classified according to PgDip or MSc. The UK system is not the only system in the world. Other countries have their own systems. The French system, for example, is quite different and there are many other different systems across the globe.I understand that it's called "Master 1". My question is what is its equivalent on a standard degree classification? No one has said the UK system is the only educational system in the world. If I was interviewing someone with a Master 1 qualification, I'll be curious to know what it is on a standard classification scale. If you know what it is, please let me know - everyday is a school day. Many thanks. |
tanimola22: Master 1Is that a PGD or an MSc? |
tanimola22: Yes, there is. Even in some countries in core Europe. It is called Master 1 in places like France, Switzerland. It lasts for just one year. Only people who understand the system would know that you did not complete the second year of the Master's degree. Other people may not know since it is called Master 1.So what degree are you awarded then? An MSc? I'm just curious! |
maasoap: @T22,Be proactive and contact the department directly to find out what their requirements are. Seeing as you studied Agricultural Economics, it might be a case of going through the modules you took to see if all the prerequisites have been covered and if you will need to take pre-master classes. Like I mentioned before, you're better of speaking to the course director or someone at the department you wish to study. Best of luck. |
FunmyKemmy: My friend holds HND (Sec. Studies). He will be finishing his MBA (Marketing) by August 2012 and wishes to be a lecturer in a University. Kindly advise him on how to go about it. Thanks.Your friend will have to find out from lecturers in that area to know what his chances are. If he's doing his MBA, he might as well speak to one of his tutors about his career plans. I think that will be the best thing to do (my opinion) |
ondo_boi: hehe! dude you're spitting shit..i wonder the kinda "chop-i-chop" institution you graduated from. tintin(f) just corrected you and you went on commiting thesame blunder... hehe! @ "standard english", guess you meant to type yoruba english... LMAO!! brbDude, you're too funny ![]() |

I did not try to put you down in anyway neither was I trying to compete with you in English writing . If you claim to having been trying to convey your message in 'simple terms', you would at least have tried to type most of the words you used correctly - that's my opinion. At the end of the day, you want to be taken seriously, so write legibly. Having said that, I don't think it's right to make excuses when one has clearly shown inadequacies (that's my opinion again). All the same, I sincerely wish you well in your MSc studies and all your endeavours. Bless! |
twaintoy: I had b.sc in mass communication and I want to go for masters, plz house advice me, masters in what should I go for??No one can choose for you. You need to take time out to identify your areas of interest and where your strengths lie (don't be lazy, its your future at stake!!!). At the end of the day, you'll be the one attending lectures and writing your project. |
paleo: @house,pls it is possible 1 runs 2 different master degree in d same school @ d same tym.....am hopin 2 do dat in unibadan thou..Pls do you think it's visible...i need d 2 different master degrees lyk mad but dont av tym 2 spear @ all..i don old 4 house die...pls.any viable and reasonable advice is welcom pls..thanksI hate to correct folks but if you're going to Uni to study for an MSc degree, you should at least be able to use your spell checker. No one is perfect and no one knows it all but please use your spell checker. Its not Thou but Though not visible but feasible not spear but spare |
Jst to deviate alittle is there anything like masters without thesis cos my friend who is currently doin his masters in Turkey said he is doin a masters without thesis and for that reason it is cheaper than masters with thesis..(Don't even knw wht that means)To answer your question with the limited knowledge I have on BSc/PG Diploma/MSc etc, I have never heard of Masters without Thesis. Having Schooled in the UK (and answering you question based on my UK knowledge), you cannot earn an "MSc Degree" without writing your dissertation (thesis/project or whatever you choose to call it). However, if you choose not to write your dissertation for whatever reason, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma degree as long as you pass all your modules. As your friend mentioned, it is cheaper to study for a Postgraduate Diploma degree than a Masters degree. I would be surprised if you friend is awarded a "Masters" certificate after completion -Who knows the Turkish system might be different. |
Greatest shocker of year! Blood of Jesus. I don't want to imagine the pain his parents (prof and Aunty B) are going through. Oh Lord! Why? Why? Why? My uncle (prof) is old and frail, he doesn't need this kind of news. Oh God! Why? Why? This is just too sad! Too too sad. May your soul rest in peace Osaze Osifo. I pray that the almighty grant us all, Baba and Aunty B, your sisters and our entire family (nuclear and extended) the fortutude to bear this huge loss. |

On holiday in NY and it rained all night. Not much wind but we're pretty much stuck indoors cause the weather can change at anytime. |
@BlueDiva, there must be one bini person where you live. I moved from one part of England to another (predominantly white with a few africans from various countries) and one day a man rang my extension at work and said he wanted to meet me at the reception. Went to meet him at the reception and he said he'd seen my picture on the board (cause we've got all our pictures and Job titles) and noticed I was from Benin. He said he rang my extension when he saw it but I wasnt at work that day. He then came back some other time just to say hello, I'm just citing this example cause there are quite a few bini people around. My parents came to visit me and were speaking bini in the town centre and some man greeted my dad just cause he heard him speaking the language. Keep your mind open and try to mix with the few nigerians around, they might know someone from B-side, |

Nice one bm10aso! I'm also in the UK and work in the health sector. Not a medic though, work in the Management side of things; quality assurance <clinical governance> and HR, It would be nice if we (you, saokea, me and other interested persons) in the UK can come together to work out how we can impact the healthcare sector in Nigeria. I'm open to discussions and meeting up in a central place, @Saokea, have you checked University of Birmingham? They've got MSc in Health Services Management and the University's ranking is quite good, worth checking out! |
agabaI23: Lol! Mesef, I tap the 'friendship' annointing o! |
