The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, has disclosed that all his decisions as governor were in the interest of the state.



The former governor and the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Akin Oke, also appealed to all aggrieved members of the party in the state to embrace reconciliation for the sake of the party’s progress.

They enjoined them to approach future political challenges with a resolve to be selfless, forgiving and more committed to the cause of the APC and Nigeria.

Addressing leaders and chieftains of the party from the nine local government areas of Oyo South Senatorial district during a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday at the party’s State Secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Sen. Ajimobi took his time to explain the rationale behind some of his actions and policies which generated controversies among the populace.

His words; “While we are expecting the courts to do justice to some of the cases emanating from conducts of the last general elections in the state, especially as it concerns the seats of the senator representing Oyo South at the Red Chamber as well as the governor of the state, I would like to admonish every member of our great party to eschew bitterness and preach genuine reconciliation.

“There are insinuations in some quarters about some of the policies and undertakings of our eight-year administration which some people considered controversial but in all honesty, I meant well for the state. All my actions were geared towards facilitating development for the whole state and also thus make life more meaningful for the masses.” Ajimobi stated.

In his welcome address, the party chairman in the senatorial district, Prince Adefisoye Adekanye, appealed to members to “remain faithful and committed in view of current challenges as what happened in the 2019 general election was an eye-opener. We have all realized the need for loyalty to our party, renewed commitment to its cause and entrenchment of peace among ourselves”.

Both the State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, and Secretary, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, in their separate addresses, sued for peace and harmony to accommodate various interests. “We are not leaving any stone unturned to make Oyo APC stronger and better. All avenues for genuine reconciliation are being explored and we are optimistic about getting the desired results in the end.” Oke said.

Hon. Olaoya and party chairmen from the nine local government areas gave updates on the efforts made so far to bring back all aggrieved members who left the party during the crisis which engulfed it before the general elections. According to Olaoya; “The State Executive Committee has put in place various committees made up of experienced and passionate individuals to bring back all the aggrieved members and we are satisfied with the success being recorded on daily basis.”

Dignitaries at the meeting include the governorship candidate of the party in the last general election, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alh. Olalekan Alli, Executive Chairmen of the local governments and LCDAs, former state lawmakers, members of the State Working Committee, party leaders and chieftains across the senatorial district.

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. David Tanko, was on Thursday killed by gunmen in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba.

The Chairman of the Local Government, Mr. Shiban Tikari, confirmed the killing while speaking to newsmen in Jalingo on Thursday.

Tikari said the priest was ambushed and killed by bandits on his way to a meeting to resolve the crisis between the Tiv and their Jakun neighbors in Kufai Amadu community in Takum.

“After killing him, the attackers set him and his car on fire,’’

Tikari said that Tanko was an indigene of Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

He fingered people he described as Tiv militia for the killing, alleging that the militia was responsible for other attacks that had claimed lives and property in Southern Taraba.

Efforts to speak to the police authority proved abortive as calls and text messages sent to the police spokesman, Mr. David Misal, were neither picked nor responded to.

Taraba State has witnessed a series of deadly attacks in recent months with the most recent taking place in the Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

Donga and Takum Local Government Areas have also witnessed bloody incidents.

Many people in Tor-Damsa community in Donga Local Government have been rendered homeless, following relentless attacks by militia groups.

According to reports, the baby was delivered in Bashua community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River state.

It's been stated that the child suffers from a rare birth defect called "gastroschisis'' where the abdominal wall does not form correctly. The baby’s intestines are found outside of the baby’s body, exiting through a hole beside the belly button. The hole can be small or large and sometimes other organs, such as the stomach and liver, can also be found outside of the baby’s body.

Gastroschisis occurs early during pregnancy when the muscles that make up the baby’s abdominal wall do not form correctly.

The three students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria kidnapped on the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Tuesday evening have regained their freedom.

The students abducted alongside three other travelers by over 20 gunmen have already been reunited with their family.

Kaduna state police spokesman Yakubu Sabo confirmed the release of the final year Law students who according to him were the last set of abductees in the kidnappers’ custody.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Japan to participate in the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), holding in Yokohama from Aug. 28 to Aug. 30.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) State House correspondent reports that Buhari left Abuja on Aug. 25.

A report posted by the president’s personal assistant on new media, Alhaji Bashir Ahmed, at about 1.25 p.m. showed Buhari with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama.

Also in the pictorial report is the Nigerian Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Mohammed Yisa, seen with Buhari at the president’s hotel in Yokohama.

An earlier statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, said Buhari’s participation in the conference would be his second, having attended TICAD6 in Nairobi, Kenya in August, 2016.

“With the theme: `Africa and Yokohama, Sharing Passion for the Future,’ the opening session of TICAD7 will be performed by the Japanese Prime Minister and host, Shinzo Abe,’’ said Adesina.

The presidential aide revealed that Buhari would deliver Nigeria’s statement during plenary three sessions when he would appraise Nigeria-Japan relations and takeaways from TICAD6.

He said the president would also attend a state banquet and honour the invitation of Emperor Naruhito to a tea reception at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

“In addition to a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Abe, the Nigerian president will also attend some side-events and meet chief executive officers of some Japanese companies with huge investments in Nigeria,’’ he added.

Formed in 1993, the now triennial TICAD has been convened alternately in Japan and Africa since TICAD6.

According to the organisers, TICAD is the largest international conference held in Japan providing an open forum that generates innovative discussion among various stakeholders on African development.

Participants are drawn not only from African countries but also international organisations, private companies and civil society organisations involved in development.

TCAD7 is expected to focus on Africa’s economic transformation and improvements in business, environment and institutions through private investment and innovation.

It is also expected to focus on promotion of resilient and sustainable African society for human security and peace and stability in support of Africa’s domestic proactive efforts.

Nigeria has gained tremendously since its participation in TICAD6 at the highest level.

Japan had pledged 30 billion dollars investment for the future of Africa combined with the private sector and 10 billion dollars infrastructure investment as well as 500 million dollars for vocational training of 50,000 Africans.

Since the Nairobi Conference, the Japanese Government and companies have been active in supporting Nigeria’s agriculture, healthcare, electricity and youth empowerment.

The Police in Kaduna State has confirmed the kidnap of five persons by armed men on Friday at Danbushiya Village, at the outskirt of Kaduna metropolis.

The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, confirmed this in a statement saying, 'on August 23rd at about 2300hrs, DPO Malali reported that he received a distress call that armed men in military uniform blocked access road to Baba Tunde Fashola Housing Estate, Danbushiya Village, at the outskirt of Kaduna and intercepted a Honda Accord Reg. No. LND 753 AL and five other vehicles and kidnapped seven persons.'

According to him, patrol teams within the metropolis led by the DPO were quickly mobilized to the scene of the incident but the hoodlums had already escaped with the victims.

“However, due to pressurized patrols within the general area, two of the victims were later found being released by the hoodlums. The two released victims alongside the vehicles were recovered to the Police station,” the spokesman said.

He also disclosed that “upon search, the sum of $10,000 US Dollars and N647,300 were recovered in one of the vehicles”. He also explained that combined teams of police Anti-kidnapping Unit and Vigilantes were later dispatched to the scene for search operation with a view to arrest the perpetrators and rescue the remaining five victims. “The IGP’S IRT were also contacted for Technical Support in tracking the hoodlums,” he added.

Sabo said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Janga, has assured that the incident would not deter the command from its collective determination in the recent war against criminals. He, therefore, called for continued support by all well-meaning citizens of the state.

Daughter of former Governor's aide has been found, Police reveal she wasn't kidnapped but went to visit her boyfriend in Owerri

Kosisochukwu Anioma, the young daughter of former aide to ex-Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Frank Anioma, was reported missing by her father on Thursday August 22 in Enugu State.

Anioma had taken to social media to state that his daughter, Kosiso, was on her way to the New Haven market in Enugu at about 7am on Thursday when she was kidnapped.

It turns out Miss Anioma was not kidnapped but left her hometown in Enugu to visit her boyfriend in Owerri, Imo State.

The Enugu State Police disclosed this information via their twitter handle as they revealed that the young lady had been found. See the Tweet below.

Kidnappers on Thursday abducted the daughter of Frank Anioma, a former aide to ex-Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, in New Haven area of Enugu.

Anioma said his daughter, Kosiso, was on her way to the New Haven market when she got missing.

Bob Marley’s son Ziggy Marley reveals he started smoking marijuana at 9 and his dad approved

Ziggy Marley, the son of late legendary Jamaican singer, Bob Marley has revealed he started smoking marijuana at the age of nine, with the blessing of his reggae legend father.

The 50-year-old, who followed in his father’s footsteps to become a musician is a Rastafarian like his father, who died in 1981 aged just 36.

He admitted he was ‘too young’ to start smoking the drug but said it was always a common thing in the Rastafarian culture.

‘Smoking marijuana wasn’t considered a bad thing in Rastafarian culture’, he told Reader’s Digest. ‘It wasn’t something to hide from the kids.

‘I can’t even remember when I had my first “spliff”, I was around nine. I was very young, too young.’

The singer admitted that if not for his father's blessing he wouldn't have started smoking at a young age.

‘I wouldn’t have let myself do it in my father’s place’, he explained.

But it was a part of our religion - we’re one of those ancient cultures with traditions that modern society wouldn’t accept.’

He explained that he didn’t smoke marijuana for ‘fun’ and instead used it to heighten his spirituality.

‘When I first consciously decided to smoke weed as a teenager, I approached it from a spiritual point of view’, he went on.

‘It’s given me more insight into myself and into my spirituality, and I use it as a form of influence when reading scriptures and books about spirituality. I use it to give me a different perspective so that my mind isn’t in the same place that it normally is. I turn into a shaman.

‘It was never just about getting high - I educated myself about it in terms of how Yogis in India use it and I went down that route with it, I didn’t go down the “fun” route.’

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday dashed the governorship aspiration of a former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the Cross Rivers Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Frankland Briyal.

The national chairman declared that only those who have spent at least one year in the party are qualified to contest its ticket.

Oshiomhole, who spoke last night while inaugurating the governorship screening committee, said aside those who have spent at least one year, others who have spent less would require a waiver from the National Working Committee (NWC) to contest.

Briyal joined the APC about two weeks ago when he resigned from his position at the electoral body to contest the governorship election in Bayelsa State on the platform of the APC.

But Oshiomhole said any prospective aspirant would not be eligible to vie for the governorship of Bayelsa and Kogi states if they are not a financial member of the party for a year.

While inaugurating the 14-member screening panel, headed by Senator Hope Uzordinma, the APC National Chairman said it would be unfair to hand the party’s flag to those who just joined when there are well-entrenched members of the party angling for the governorship seats in the aforementioned states.

Oshiomhole urged members of the committee to adhere strictly to the guidelines of the party, adding that the NWC reserves the right to grant waivers to any of the aspirants who do not meet the party’s guidelines.

He said the August 29 primaries of the party would take place simultaneously in Lokoja and Yenagoa.

According to him, the party will give aspirants a fair chance to actualize their aspirations.

On behalf of the committee, Uzordinma expressed gratitude to the party for reposing confidence on members of the committee.

He added that they would discharge their assignment without fear or favor.

Youth Corper Defeats Nigerian Soldier In Push Up Competition!!!.

A Nigerian soldier was made mockery of by a platoon he's heading after a male corper defeated him in a push up challenge.

The soldier who couldn't believe his eyes over the guys strength, had to give up as counting was still ongoing.

Chants of "morale high" fixed the atmosphere as the officer got defeated.

Literally, push ups are like food to soldiers but in this case, we can't really ascertain what went wrong.

The Federal Government has threatened to use Tekno as a scapegoat to send strong signals of intolerance to 'nonsense and immorality', as it expressed disappointment that the Cartel Music boss released the music video which sparked controversy while being shot.

Recall that Tekno suffered a backlash after being spotted in a viral video shared on social media dancing in a transparent moving van on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos, with four semi-nude women.

Reacting to the release of the music video, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Segun Runsewe said they were queried by Nigerians at home and in the diaspora after a clip of the semi-naked women went viral. He also warned against shameful conducts which are not part of "our" culture.

“We commend the police for arresting Tekno for the shameful misconduct. The same person, who was granted bail on health grounds has gone ahead to release the controversial video. We are now warning him to desist from this shameful conduct, which is not part of our culture.

“No single person is bigger than Nigeria; whether he likes it or not, we are going to use him as a scapegoat to send strong signals that this government does not tolerate nonsense and immorality, but discipline, which is our moral principle.

“Since the offensive Tekno scam video came to the limelight, I have received hundreds of telephone calls and SMS from Nigerians at home and others in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and other parts of the world querying why such anomalies would be tolerated in Nigeria.

“Now that he has released the shameful video when the investigation is still ongoing, we are going to inform security agencies to place him on their watch list, because his action is a threat to national security and a bad influence on Nigerian youths.

“We are committed to exposing proponents of this kind of offensive sights and videos. We warn that nudity is not part of our culture and should not be tolerated. The Federal Government will henceforth fish out clubs for nude dancers across the country for their promoters to face prosecution.”
