A middle-aged man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating the Catholic priest of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka in Fegge, Onitsha South local government area of Anambra State.

The fraudster reportedly duped businessman in the commercial city of the state of N3million.

Divisional Police Officer Rabiu Garba disclosed this on Sunday in Fegge while briefing newsmen on the efforts of his division to sanitize the area.

He said over N2million have so far been recovered from the suspect while efforts were on to recover the remaining amount.

He said the suspect was assisting the police in their investigations.

The DPO also raised the alarm over a new method developed by the fraudsters in defrauding their victims at ATM Bank point through an exchange of ATM cards while pretending to assist the customer.

He said others send fake bank alert to their victims after deceiving them.

He added, “Detectives from my division have also arrested a syndicate who duped a building material dealer of N1.2million worth of goods relocated to Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA of the state.”

He regretted that cybercrime in and around the commercial city has assumed an endemic dimension.

While revealing that the division has embarked on a search on all flash point and Betnaija offices, Rabiu warned that under-aged children caught patronizing such outfit would be arrested.

He appealed to parents and guardians to always keep watch on their children and wards.

The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23, 2019 election, Mr. Peter Obi has said that Nigeria can be better than it is now but required God’s revival to return to its glory.

In a goodwill message on the occasion of the Eid el-Kabir, Obi urged Muslims in the country to use the period of celebrations to pray God to beam His searchlight on Nigeria and revive it.

The former Governor of Anambra state said that God has destined Nigeria to be a great people and a great nation but through human failings, the country is down the valley.

Obi said, “We must all, therefore, return to God in deep supplication to save our country and time like this provides a huge opportunity for us to cry to God for justice and fair play in our land.

“Without justice and freedom, this society cannot blossom. Let us therefore in unison, cry to God for mercy by providing people consciously and God-fearing political leadership”.

He noted the prevailing hardship in the country, including the needless bloodletting but urged the people not to allow it to affect their spirit of love, brotherliness, and peaceful co-existence.

Obi said rather, the people should use this year’s Eid-El Kabir festivities to engender the spirit of oneness and also re-dedicate themselves to the virtues of love, patriotism, and unity for the desired national development.

He called on Nigerians to allow the solemnness of this period to influence their thoughts and actions in relating to one another.

The PDP chieftain admonished the government to relax what he described as the tensed situation in the country by seeking a pragmatic solution to the increasing security challenges and following the rule of law and respect for the rights of citizens as required by democracy.

According to him, government and its agencies should, through actions and inactions, be at the forefront of engendering love, humility and forgiveness which should guide the citizens’ way of living irrespective of religion, ethnic and political differences and also, help in ushering in a new and adorable era where bitterness, hatred, and warring shall give way to peace and concord.

Disgraced US billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein, committed suicide at the Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center where he is being held pending trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Law enforcement officials told newsmen that he was placed on “suicide watch", but got successful on his second attempt. Epstein who hanged himself overnight and found dangling by 7:30a.m on Saturday, August 10, was reportedly transported from the jail to New York Downtown Hospital where he was found to be in cardiac arrest at the time of arrival before being confirmed dead.

The 66-year-old accused of arranging to have sex with girls as young as age 14 in the early 2000s at Epstein's residences in Manhattan and Florida, has been held without bail at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Though he pleaded not guilty to the charges, a judge said he wouldn't face trial before June 2020.

This is a kidnap and not an arrest

A yet-to-be-identified lady was found dead underneath a hotel bed in Owerri the capital of Imo State.

Eyewitnesses claimed the incident occurred last weekend at a popular hotel along World Bank Road in Owerri, and a cleaner reportedly found the corpse. It was further learned that identifying the girl has been quite difficult, as the killer who is also yet to be identified fled with her belongings including her clothes and underwear.

The Imo State Police Command is reportedly investigating the incident suspected to be a case of ritual killing. Here are photos taken from the scene of the incident below;

Security operatives are seen around the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos as #RevolutionNow protest march commences.

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 General Election, and publisher of the online medium, Sahara Reporters, had called for the staging of the #RevolutionNow.

He described the move as a protest against bad governance in the country.

Sowore was on Saturday arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services at his home.

The DSS had said that Sowore was arrested “for threatening public safety, peaceful co-existence and social harmony in the country.”

Barely three weeks after Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, stepped down as Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) over allegations of rape brought against him by the wife of popular artiste, #BusolaDakolo, a board member of the Ministry has resigned.

In a letter addressed to Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo dated 19th July, Obafemi Banigbe communicated that he was no longer interested in being a member of the #COZA Board of Trustees “with immediate effect and for personal reasons.” Pastor Banigbe is the first member of the church’s board to tender a public resignation from the ministry, after Pastor Fatoyinbo stepped down on a leave of absence amidst immense pressure mounted on him by Nigerians, especially under the umbrella of the #ChurchToo Movement, to quit the pulpit.
