Burglars have stolen a solid 18-carat gold toilet, worth £5 million from Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England

The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, September 14.

The toilet titled 'America' which was created in 2016 by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan only went on display two days ago during an exhibition.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed the toilet was stolen and a 66-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft and remains in police custody.

Dominic Hare, chief executive officer of Blenheim Palace, told the BBC the toilet is valued at about six million dollars and was a 'very precious piece'.

He said the theft of the solid gold toilet 'was a huge shock'.

'Staff were instantly aware of what happened and police arrived very, very quickly indeed,' he added.

When asked if the artist had been contacted, he said: 'There were some slightly nervous calls at 6am but we have spoken to the artist and Lord Edward at the art foundation, and many of the trustees and they have been magnificent in their support.'

Mr. Hare added: 'We have a sophisticated security set-up here and we have had no loss of this kind in living memory, which probably reflects the quality of that operation.

'The events of the last 24 hours mean we may have reason to reconsider some of our systems.'

He was also asked whether a party, which took place at the palace on Friday night, could have created an opportunity for the theft.

In response, he said: 'We have been asked not to comment on the investigation. But there was a clear time separation between those things.

'There is always a risk when you display valuable art to the public, but it is worth that risk, even now, it was still worth that risk.'

Confirming that the palace would reopen on Sunday following repair works, Mr. Hare explained: 'We've now got a huge hole where there was once a golden toilet.'

Detective Inspector Jess Milne said: 'The piece of art that has been stolen is a high-value toilet made out of gold that was on display at the palace.'

Inspector Richard Nicholls added: 'We are aware they left about 4.50am this morning. CCTV is one of the aspects we are looking on and that will come out in due course.'

When asked if he believed a reception party held on the same night of the exhibition's launch could be connected, Insp Nicholls said: 'I am not aware of the reception party personally, but that would form part of our inquiries in order to ascertain events leading up to the item being stolen.'

Thames Valley Police also disclosed that the offenders broke into the palace overnight and left the scene at about 4.50am.

Detective Inspector Jess Milne said: 'Due to the toilet being plumbed into the building, this has caused significant damage and flooding.'

Detective Inspector Milne added: 'We believe group offenders used at least two vehicles during the offense.

'The artwork has not been recovered at this time but we are conducting a thorough investigation to find it and bring those responsible to justice.

She continued: 'Residents will see an increased police presence in the area while officers and staff carry out inquiries.'

'I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area to contact police.

Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa got embarrassed today as he was booed by angry Zimbabweans at the funeral service of former President Mugabe in the capital, Harare.

The funeral service, which took place at the National Sports Stadium, had in attendance heads of state and former presidents joining Zimbabweans in paying tribute to the former statesman.

Ramaphosa took to the stage to deliver his condolences but he was interrupted by boos from the crowd.

Recall that in recent weeks, Nigerians and other Africans have experienced a series of violent Xenophobic attacks that led to shops being looted and properties vandalized. Twelve people have died, many have been arrested and hundreds of immigrants – including Nigerians and Zimbabwean – have left the country.

When he was finally allowed to speak, Ramaphosa apologized for the attacks on fellow Africans in his country.

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia has lamented over the difficulties the police have been facing in rescuing Mrs. Beauty Ogere, the mother of Former Nigerian skipper and National Team Coach, Samson Siasia who has spent 62 days in Kidnappers' den.

Speaking to newsmen at the police headquarters in Yenagoa, the police boss said the kidnappers have been changing their locations.

He explained that the police operatives had shortly after her abduction “sourced for useful information that gave investigators a promising lead to some locations within the creeks where the victim may have been kept.”

"The police have been trailing the abductors in spite of the fact that they have been changing locations.

“The fundamental aspect of our operations that is of interest to us is the achievement of positive result and not actually occasional dissemination of information concerning efforts being made by the police to achieve such result. This is why we have not been coming on air to update the public" he added.

Anozia concluded by stating that the police has intensified its effort with other security agencies in the rescue mission.

The National Association of Nigerian Students/Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Ekiti chapter has condemned attempts the national Public Relations Officer of NAN, Adeyemi Azeez, to blackmail and rope in wife of Ekiti Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi over the killing of two Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) students by police operatives.

The students were shot during a protest on Tuesday by students of the institutions against epileptic power supply to the town.

They were allegedly gunned down by policemen, a development that made Azeez accused Mrs. Fayemi of ordering the attack on the students.

But NANS/JCC Ekiti chapter, in a statement on Friday, accused Azeez of planning to blackmail Mrs. Fayemi over the incident to score cheap political points.

In a statement by Comrades Ogunleye Abiola Johnson, Ojo Pius Oluwaseun and Owaraye Damilola, chairman, General Secretary and PRO of the group, the body warned NANS national leadership to stay away from Ekiti over the incident.

According to them: “Our attention has been drawn to the press text released by one Mr Adeyemi Azeez, a self- acclaimed PRO of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) declaring the wife of Ekiti State Governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi persona non grata 50 meters to any university campus.

“While we cry and mourn the sudden death of two of our members arising from the recklessness of some trigger happy policemen, we condemn in totality the efforts by some rent seekers to turn the story upside down to score cheap political point and blackmail the wife of the governor in order to cash out on the death of our members.

“While the event that led to the death of our members from the Federal University of Oye Ekiti is worrisome and has thrown the entire students movement in the state into mourning, it is imperative to state that the version of the story been promoted by the self- acclaimed PRO of NANS is nothing but a mere conjunction of poorly package lies and blackmail by some rent seekers who derive pleasure in cashing out from Nigerian students woes.”

They stated no NANS national leader has visited Ekiti for fact-finding before going to the media, stating the narrative that has been pushed on the incident has been largely false.

“We also wish to state irrevocably that the press text by the self- acclaimed PRO of NANS does not in any way represent the incident resulting to the death of our members and the public is advised to discard such cheap blackmail.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we will resist any attempt by some fifth columnist to turn this ugly and very regrettable recklessness of the Nigerian Police to political instrument of blackmail or a pay cheque for rent seekers.”

A religious celebration was marred by tragedy this week as a man participating in a traditional Islamic mourning ritual accidentally beheaded himself.

Mohammed Sayum was displaying his prowess at swordsmanship in the Nalanda district of Bihar, in east India, as part of a ritual procession known as the Mourning of Muharram. According to reports, Sayum, 60, accidentally cut his own neck and was rushed to Sadar Hospital, but died from loss of blood before he arrived.

The accident sparked chaos in the area, according to the news site Swarajya, where hundreds of others were also observing the ritual procession. Sayum’s son, Mohammad Feroz, told police he witnessed the incident.

Police in Bihar are still investigating and sent Sayum’s body for an autopsy.

Muharram is considered one of the most sacred months of the Islamic calendar. The Mourning of Muharram, or Muharram Observances, is a commemoration honoring the death of Imam Hussain Ali, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and third Imam of the Shiite community, who was killed by the Caliph Yazid’s army in 680 AD at the battle of Karbala. For Shiite Muslims, Imam Hussain’s death is symbolic of the struggle against tyranny and injustice.

Observances of the Muharram procession vary, but traditionally involve a march from the Hussainia (congregation hall) into the streets, where participants light bonfires and partake in acts of self-flagellation, cutting, chest-beating and face-slapping. Some devotees visit the shrine to Imam Hussain in Karbala in modern-day Iraq.

Fatal accidents and violence have long plagued Muharram commemorations: On Tuesday, at least 31 people were killed in a stampede in Karbala, with 100 more injured. According to the AP, the stampede started when a walkway collapsed.

The same day, 20 people were injured watching a Muharram procession in Andhra Pradesh, in southeast India, when the roof they were standing on collapsed at about 2 a.m. Police report the victims were viewing the Pedda Saragathi ritual, where devotees walk on a hot bed of coals.

Also on Tuesday, a man in Uttar Pradesh was electrocuted, and others wounded, when a tazia they were carrying came in contact with a live electrical wire. A tazia is a replica of Imam Hussain’s tomb, carried during Muharram processions.

Days earlier, at least four people died in Karachi, Pakistan, when a tazia collided with overhead electrical cables. The incident happened on Saturday, in the Bhittaiabad neighbourhood of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

In 2004, bombings at shrines in Karbala and Baghdad during the Day of Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram and the focal day for mourning, killed 140 people.

Two Kenyan politicians and members of parliament, Ndindi Nyoro and Maina Kamanda engaged in a fight yesterday at Gatui Catholic Church in Muranga over the control of Kiharu constituency.

The fight ensued after Nyoro stormed the church's fundraiser which Kamanda was attending with other Kieleweke MPs. Nyoro disrupted the event, insisting that he is the only one with the right to invite leaders to events in his constituency as Kiharu's MP.

“I am the MP and I am the only one who can invite people to functions in this constituency. I respect Maina Kamanda as a father and an elder, but I cannot allow him to come all the way from Nairobi to rule Kiharu Constituency,” Nyoro said.

He also stated that the event will not go on because he wasn't invited to the event holding in his constituency.

Brazil's President, Jair Bolsonaro underwent surgery on Sunday, September 8th to repair an abdominal hernia, making it his fourth operation since being stabbed in the stomach a year ago at a campaign rally.

The operation at Sao Paulo's Vila Nova Star hospital lasted more than five hours, the medical center reported in a statement signed by his surgeon, Antonio Luiz Macedo.

"The procedure was a success," Macedo's statement said, adding that the president was recovering and in stable condition. He said a significant part of Bolsonaro's intestine had to be removed after it had become strongly attached to the abdominal wall. Doctors used a mesh implant to strengthen muscle tissue, Macedo added.

President Bolsonaro is expected to spend five days in hospital and should be able to travel by plane after a week, Macedo said. Vice President Hamilton Mourao temporarily assumed the powers of the presidency on Sunday and will remain in office at least until Thursday, a presidential spokesman said.

Bolsonaro was stabbed on September 6, 2018 at a campaign rally in the state of Minas Gerais by a 41-year-old man, who was found to be delusional and psychologically unfit for trial. The assailant, Adelio Bispo de Oliveira, is being held in the psychiatric unit of a maximum security prison.

A cock named Maurice can continue his crowing after a judge rejected a lawsuit filed by some unhappy neighbors’ lawyer, Vincent Huberdeau, in France.

Maurice's owner, Corinne Fesseau, told a court in Rochefort, western France, in July, that nobody else had complained about the noise at her home, except a couple of retired summer vacationers.

She faced having to either move or silence her rooster, but the judge, on Thursday, rejected her neighbors' complaint, meaning that Maurice can carry on crowing.

Her lawyer, Julien Papineau, said that the neighbors must also pay €1,000 in damages.

The case quickly ballooned into a national cause celebre, with 140,000 people signing a "Save Maurice" petition or proudly displaying his picture on "Let Me Sing" T-shirts.

A near-tragic incident occurred last night at the Minna International Airport as a plane conveying over 600 pilgrims returning from the 2019 annual pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia crash-landed.

Though no one was injured or died in the incident, however, the passengers were all in panic. The aircraft said to be a Boeing 744 with registration number 5N/ DBK, skidded off the runway after developing a technical fault in one of its tires.

The Nation reported that the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hajia Hassana Isah confirmed the incident but did not give further details.

A Twitter user who revealed that his cousin was among the passengers of the aircraft, said the incident occurred because the control tower was not ready to receive them.

"Gisting with my couz who just came back from Saudi Arabia (Hajj). So they crash landed last night at minna airport cause the control tower was not ready to receive them or so, apparently, there was no light (Power) at the airport. Niger Power state." he tweeted.

It was further gathered that five officials of the Accident Bureau of Investigation from Lagos went into a closed-door meeting with the management of the airport, after arriving at the facility and inspecting the partly damaged aircraft.

A senior official of the airport also revealed that that the airport would have been razed down if the aircraft which crash-landed had caught fire. According to him, the airport has no fire fighting vehicles.

“The fire that would have followed would have spread to all parts of the airport because we don’t have fire fighting vehicles in this airport”, a senior official of the airport said.

Hurricane Dorian destroys beach bar in Bahamas where Justin Bieber celebrated engagement

The popular Bahamian beach bar where Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin partied after their engagement in July 2018, was reduced to a shadow of itself after being struck by Hurricane Dorian.

TMZ reported that the Category 5 storm destroyed the Nipper's Beach Bar & Grill in the Bahamas, removed its roofs and mangled its fence.

A Detroit woman is lucky to be alive after she was shot 11 times by her wife during an argument about infidelity in their marriage.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Airrion Wallace confronted her wife of 12 years after discovering she committed adultery and told her that they needed to file for divorce. During their argument, Wallace threatened to bring another woman into their home so her wife could understand how it feels to be cheated on.

Wallace’s wife shot her in the vagina four times, four times in the leg, and three times in the stomach.

Airrion was in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery and two blood transfusions.

Narrating what happened, Wallace said: "I was telling her that we needed to get a divorce. Because I can handle a lot of things but I can’t handle infidelity. You made me uncomfortable at home, don’t be surprised if I have another female in here. I don’t know why I said that, and she said ‘You want to play with me?’ And looked at me and pulled out a gun.”

She added that she begged during the shooting, saying: "I'm like OK. OK, I hear you, I'm not going to do it". And she kept going."

She said she remaned conscious after the shooting and found a way to flee from her home.

"I had to gather as much strength as I could, to get down my stairs and get outside. As soon as I opened the door there were people out there. I said please call the police.”

Wallace’s wife was arrested and she told police she acted in self-defense.

She said: "She wanted me to die because she always felt if she can’t have me, no one could have me."

The wife has not been formally charged.

The General Overseer of Awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus Ministry in Akure, Ondo State, Pastor Adewale Giwa, says according to the word of God, pastors that own private jets and otherworldly possession will not make heaven.

In an interview with The Sun, Adewale said

The poor cannot own a private jet, but the rich can. It is unfortunate that the affected pastors have ignored the word of God in 1 Timothy 6:7-10, which says, “For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many grieves.

Those who own private jets have to sell them and use the proceeds to support the poor. The biblical passage about the “Rich and the Kingdom of God” simply tells such pastors what to do. It will be extremely difficult for pastors who gather treasures on earth to make heaven.

The young rich man who came to meet Jesus in Matthew Chapter 19 said he had fulfilled all the commandments of God. But, Jesus replied him to go sell his possessions to the poor so as to have treasure in heaven. In verse 22, the young man went away sad because he had great wealth.

Nobody is greater than the word of God. You can never see them quoting this verse. Even if they quote it, they might decide to twist it. To set the record straight, it is not my opinion that the pastors gathering wealth won’t make heaven, but it is the word of God. These pastors do not only have private jets, but also have private institutions that the poor cannot afford.

Reacting to the comments made by some pastors that their private jets help them move around so they can preach the gospel, Adewale said

So, you are telling me that without private jets they cannot preach the word of God. The most effective evangelism is house-to-house, which Apostle Paul practised in Acts 20:20. They should take time and read it. Acquiring private jets is a worldly thing that will perish with the world.

In Mathew 6:19-21, the Holy Bible says: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
