Following the recent attack on its workers by the Boko Haram sect, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has suspended its exploration for crude oil in the Lake Chad Basin in parts of Borno State.

This was announced by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu on Thursday while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

Kachikwu said the exercise had to be put on hold until the corporation gets sufficient clearance to resume its oil search in the region from the military.

The Minister, who commiserated with the families of victims killed by the insurgents, said the exercise was put on hold pending when the corporation got the necessary clearance from security agencies before embarking on the next trip.

He, however confirmed that the corporation got all the clearance it needed before embarking on the exploration trip on Tuesday.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo visits Rivers State for the inauguration of the $1.5b Indorama Eleme Fertilizer plant (a world-class fertilizer plant) and commissioning of some State road projects today, 27th July 2017.

President Buhari in London today described all negative reports made about him as all lies.

Buhari stated this today when he received delegates of APC governors who visited him in London where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

When asked to react to all the negative things being said about him, the President just laughed, describing such negative reports as lies.

According to governor Okorocha President Buhari was completely unperturbed by the cocktail of lies. He instead, sent his best wishes to Nigerians.

Nigerians don’t have to worry at all, adding that President Buhari will be back as soon as the doctors give him the green light.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo spent one hour with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in London and then swiftly left to begin the journey home.

According to Reuters, Osinbajo arrived in the night at the Abuja House, where Buhari has been living since he arrived 8 May, from Nigeria for medical vacation.

A new militant group in the oil-rich Niger Delta is calling off the war it had threatened to start on June 30, and has decided to “give peace a chance”, in what could be a relief for Nigeria that has just started to recover its oil production that was crippled by militant attacks last year.

The New Delta Avengers said at the beginning of June that they were declaring war on Nigeria’s oil infrastructure, threatening (again) the fragile but gradual recovery of the country’s crude oil production.


But on Wednesday, the New Delta Avengers said in an open letter, as quoted by Reuters:

“NDA has decided to shelve our planned attack on major oil facilities in the region from June 30, 2017.”

“We have decided to give peace a chance,” the group, previously unheard-of said in its letter, noting that they decided to call off the ‘war’ to help local community Edwin Clark continue negotiations for a peaceful resolution. The New Delta Avengers—named in an apparent nod to the Niger Delta Avengers that were the most active militant group in the Delta last year—had threatened attacks because they wanted a larger share of revenues from oil sales to go to the Niger Delta region.
