Thank you so much for the Guidelines.

PANDORIAMEDIA:
also please always try to get your interview dates earlier in the year when new visa quotas are just out like from february till august is a good time as the year decline the visa quotas are very low so visa refusals are high if you look on here too you will notice a lot even of end of the year applications get refused a lot. applications in the ember months liker october down to december gets declined a lot. but ven as at that if you follow the visa guidelines carefully you can still be among the few that gets visa approval during this ember months.

Thank you and well noted

Denc:

The outcome of one's visa application is independent of another. Each application is treated on it's own merit. Nevertheless, applying in one's home-country aids in addressing the home-tie criterium per non-immigrant visa

Abuja was calmer years ago (compared to Lagos). If that's still the case now, then do Abuja.

Yes.

Before thinking of closest date(s), the visa refusal happened just days/weeks ago, why not pause to carefully plan for the next the application and interview as the visa officer(s) would looking out for substantial change when the re-application is made?
(School admissions can be deferred, that also gives one time to seek funded admission ... why rush to the US to spend own funds to acquire a certificate that does not guarantee recouping the expense? Even US nationals struggle to get desired jobs/preferred means of income.)

My people I need your help to make this decision or anyone that passsed through the same experience from a third country. You can Kindly see my 1st attempt transcript that I posted here some weeks back, Since my first attempt denial here in Abu Dhabi, I have been thinking of re-applying in Naija since Home-tie is the issue. Not until today I saw this guy's post on Facebook who was in the situation. He was denied twice here in UAE Not until He went to His Home Country and He got approved. Kindly see the attached screen shot of His Post.

Now my question is, Do you think I aslo have a better chance for my second attempt if I re-apply in Naija or I should just stick to Abu Dhabi here?

What Consulate you think I should go to? Lagos or Abuja?

Can I use my Bank statement from my bank here in UAE for naija?

What is closest date for refusal slot in Naija?

Thank you so much in Advance

Tkulthenoble:
Admin Kindly approve.

Visa got denied.

Location: Abu Dhabi

I have B1/B2 Visa

Intervew: F1 Visa,

Course: MS in Marketing

School: Depaul University

Me: Good Morning with Big Smile
VO: Good Morning pass me your document
Me: Here you go
VO: Wow Congratulations you have Scholarshp
Me: Thank you Sir
VO: You are going to Depaul University, Program 2 years. Lets go through your application.
Me: As VO was going through application, statrted explaining to Him about My program. it is 2 years program with 7 core course e.g Marketing Management, Market Research, Aanlytical for marting and this program and course will help me to grab a position at my present job as a commercial manager, we focusing specifically on Africa, Nigeria to be precise, I will managing the Sales team for contract negotiation and contract Renewal.
VO: How long you have been working with your company
Me: 8 years and I have a confirmation of employment letter right here.
VO: Can I see? then He looked at it
VO: Why Depaul University
Me: Because one of Depaul University Core Value is Integrity and My company number one Core Value is integrity and this speaks alot to me, Because I believe so much in this Value, I believe in Honesty, Trust Worthy and as a leader I work the talk and the Depaul Univerisy is known for several volunteer activities on US News website and this is also inline with me as I have organised several CSR with my company.
VO: Did your company have any confirmation you getting a job when you return.

Me: No, But in our Vendor Management meeting, I have had several discussion and training with the sales department.

VO: Are you single?

Me: Yes

VO: Do you have any relative in the US.

Me: No

VO: How are you going to cover your deficit.

Me: I am covering my Deficit through my 8 years working here in UAE and I have my Bank statement here with me.

VO: dropped the bad news I am sorry for the Bad news cant see you have intent to study in the US, and He said something about other VOs which I did not understand and hands me the 214B flyer.

what went wrong here? Cuz I have analysed it, is my job not enough as socio economy tie? Must I say that I will be heading back to my Home country instead my job after my study?

Or Did I talk too much? Cuz I see other guys with F1 that got interviewd with other VOs hardly say anything but got approved.

Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Tkulthenoble: 5:42pm On Jan 12
Thank you and I am on this. But sadly closest date is till July 2025.

Leftrightcenter:
Sorry for your visa denial...
From your transcript, I think the reasons for the denial relate to both home ties and school.
As others have already stated, it would good if you establish you ties to your home country instead of the country of your residence. VOs know the immigration laws of your country of residence more than you do and they know you're not coming back to the country. Establishing your ties to your home country isn't just telling the VO that you have relatives in Nigeria. How will your intended program address some concerns in your home country?
Are there businesses you want to establish in your country and companies you will want to work with?
Also, you can get the documents of any landed properties you have in your home country (in case you're asked or you need to present it to the VO).

Regarding the school of your choice, your responses are more of generic. Most US schools are (or should be known) for integrity, honesty, etc and hence these are not specific answers.
How does the school relates to your career goals? Are there courses, etc that are peculiar to the school in relation to your career goals? Are there professor(s) whose works catch your interest and who you will like to mentor you?
Besides, are there other schools you applied to and what made you to choose this school instead of the other ones? You can also state the scholarship award as one of the reasons (if the amount is significant).

Regarding when to reapply, since your resumption date is relatively far and I believe it is easier to get closer dates in UAE, you can apply as soon as you can but it may be better to give like a space of one month or little more in order to organize yourself better.
Also, you can use the 'explain' in previously denied visa to state the areas if felt you didn't address well.
All the best.

Thank you

welf99:
You should reapply immediately, your ties are stronger in Nigeria.

It is more than enough. If you are asked are you married?, tell the VO you have a GF or engaged, planning to get married soon.

Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Tkulthenoble: 5:20pm On Jan 10
I noticed the same thing yesterday, I saw guys with no Home ties, or came from another country they were issued. I dont know maybe because of the VO or I put alot of words out there without Him asking but I am re-applying and going back for the interview.

Somatohadidas:

I would say that this is a bit misguiding. You don’t have to establish all what you have listed before you could be given a visa. Not having ties in UAE is not the main cause (of the OP's denial) as you've posited.

I've seen people literally at various places in Europe, even without a job (without any of those ties you mentioned), getting the F1 visa to study in the US. In fact, I'm speaking from experience.

Thank you, Because you guys are really helpful. Now I see the only tie back to Abu Dhabi is my job which was the reason for the denial, although I have been here for more than 8 years and on the same job.

Now I want to re-apply and take my tie back Home, Would let the VO know that all my relatives are back in Nigeria and upon completing my program, I will be back Home and I also own landed property back in Nigeria, which I have all the documents here. You think this is enough as Home-ties? if they ask what has changed?

for my travel history, I have been to Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Maldives and Georgia. Infact I have a valid B2 Visa for 5 Years. I visited the US for 11 days last year too. Which I mentioned all on my DS-160.

welf99:
It has nothing to do with your case. Your DS-160 profile needs to establish your ties in Abu Dhabi, how established are you in that country?
You are not married, you dont have any assets in Abu Dhabi, you dont have long term residence, you dont have a job guarantee that warrant your return to country of residence. Basically all roads back to Abu Dhabi is blocked. Your only ties in Abu Dhabi is employment, this is not enough. What is your travel history like? how many countries have you travelled to since you arrived Abu Dhabi? ...whatever you input on your DS-160 has established if your visa will be approved or not before the interview....

Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Tkulthenoble: 1:11am On Jan 10
Thank you, I have immovable assets and my family are all back Home. To be sincere with you even during my interview some ppl that dont even live here that came from neighbouring country were approved.

Denc:

Focus on addressing the criteria.
Sadly, it is best to delay re-application until the concerns are addressed (not just questions from an interview).
Usually, an applicant applies from the home country seeking visa to a foreign country. Applying from another country, while not discouraged and has some successes, has an inherent home-tie concern i.e.
"Which country is the applicant going to return to after US stay?" (country of origin or country of current stay?)
"Why would the applicant return to the said country?"
If possible, a remedy is to apply from one's home-country and demonstrate home-ties viz:
- (immediate) family members
- immovable property
- professional attachment
- community connections

Beyond the "home-tie" criterium, the transcript indicates the need to address that of "purpose".
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Tkulthenoble: 4:04pm On Jan 09
My program starts in 1st of April and do you think it is cool, that I re-apply straight away? thinking to defer to fall. And again My compnay cant give that and even study leave, they give only one month.

welf99:
Your transcript is not bad at all, I think you should reapply immediately. Work on this question

VO: Did your company have any confirmation you getting a job when you return.
Me: No, But in our Vendor Management meeting, I have had several discussion and training with the sales department.

Get a confirmation from your company in the form of a letter of return to back up your claim. I like the fact that your responses demanded the VO to have a look at your documents (this is key).
Do you have a temporary residence in Abu Dhabi and what is the duration left on it?

Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Tkulthenoble: 4:01pm On Jan 09
You are right. I know I messed up here.

Mehn you should learn to wait for questions before answering. Don't start explaining when you haven't been asked any question.

I think that was one of the issue today, for not waititng for the VO to ask first but the Home tie, I dont know how I can work on that as I lived here for 8 years now

Wait for the question(s) before responding, keep responses concise and succinct.

Purpose and home-tie criteria not addressed per interviewer's perspective.
Think:
- "Why is this Nigerian applicant in a foreign country going to the US (another foreign country) to study?"
- "Why would the applicant come back to Nigeria from the US after study?"

The applicant's documentation/responses/story needs to add-up per the intent of the US for issuing non-immigrant visas (e.g. F1)

Hey !

Yes why not ? Go ahead . But you will need the SEVIS fee payment receipt/slip to apply for emergency appointment if need be ...but right now go ahead and book your normal appointment and who knows you might have some luck and pick your desired date ...but in all you will still need to tender the SEVIS payment evidence @ the embassy .

There's God. Don't give up.

Hey !

Broaden your search for someone in the USA.. contact your friends and families and someone must know someone over there because USA is your best bet.

Alternatively, send some of your close friends or a reliable family member to Cotonou (Republic of Benin) to pay it on your behalf ..it's even easier to pay in Cotonou than USA . Those are your 2 options I am foreseeing.

There's God. Don't give up.

Hello My ppl, I need your help as I have issues paying my SEVIS fee, the comment on the DHS website says Citizens from Nigeria can not use debit card or Credit to pay but we have options like using Western Union Quick Pay. I checked with Western Union here in UAE, I was told that in the Middle East, Western Union can not make transfer to Business account or company only to personal account. I also downloaded the pay4me app, on the pay4me app there is no option for UAE in the resident location. Any other option cuz I do not have anyone in the US to help me make the payment. Thanks

You’ll be fine. You may actually not need much from a JJC like you. Look for strong Naija community in Chicago area. Reach out to Naija Churches and mosques to find like-minded fellows. https://napachicago.org/ is a good organization.
Also, African/Nigerian student unions in schools like UIC, Loyola, UChicago, Northwestern etc can offer vital resources and help. This is your own journey, you can make it on your own.

Thank you for your reasonable and kind reply

I Agree with you on the travel history, Travel history was one of the major thing they were asking when I got mine approved here in UAE.
flavann:

Thats your opinion i stated mine base on my observation, i have been applying for usa visa since 2001, and have studied them, any application to any embassies now rely on travel history, before trump first traveler usually get usa visa easily, not anymore, only few people get now. trump personally raised this issue that usa embassy should be doing same just like europe uk and canada, to vet document. Usa dont verify student bank statement before trump now they are doing so. I stated with travel history u stand the chance of 75 percent, other things come to play like Job, marriage and age. until i had travel history to france, italy, swiss, germany. thats when i got my visa, after 6 applications.

Hi My Ppl,

1. I have a couple of questions to ask regarding my B1/B2 Visa that I just got here in UAE, I will be visiting the states in September, and back to UAE and later apply for F1 earlier next year. I applied for the B1/B2 before I got my admission. So I hope they wont be asking asking questions that why I have B1/b2 and still applying for F1?.

2. I will be sponsoring myself so how many months my exact POF should be in my account before I can request for my i-20?

3. I am looking at the tickets for my visits in september and I realized that Dubai to New york is cheaper than Dubai to Houston but I mentioned in my DS-160 that i will be staying in Houston but I also mentioned New York as part of the places that I will be visiting, I also mentioned New York as part of the places I will be visiting to VO during the interview. So can I arrive through New York or it must be that Houston I mentioned in DS-160?

Thank you in advance

5K to spend in 14 days depends on your what your income and account balance looks like. 5K (flight+hotel stay for 2weeks+feeding +continental US travel+ some small shopping) looks good. You can make hotel reservations without payment (booking.com) to bolster your itinerary evidence. Please don't buy any flight tickets yet smiley

Thank you for the reply Bro. I got my Visa approved on Wednesday here in Abu Dhabi and got my passport this evening.

Another question, I mentioned in my DS-160 that I will be staying in Houston when I arrived in the states but during my interview New york was one of the states I mentioned to VO that I will visit but Looking at the flight from Dubai to Houston is far and more costly than the flight from dubai to New York. If I want to go in through New York will there be an issue for not going through the state I mentioned on my DS-160?

Thanks

Thank you for the reply. around 5k USD would be great budget for this or more? Any idea? Plus do I need to do my hotels reservation before the interview in case the VO would ask ?
Segun889:

It is very possible to do these visits in 14 days. However be mindful that continental European travel is very cheap… you wouldn’t get similar prices for travel within US.
