Wow congratulations babe, I knew you were going to nail it though. All the best. sharwama: SHARWAMA'S APPROVED VISA TRANSCRIPT. Date: June 7, 2019 Venue: Lagos Consulate Time:6:30 a.m Gender of VO: Male Window: I Didn't notice, I was blown away by his cuteness and jerry curl Ok it was the second to last window, before the exit door. I: (Smiling) Good morning sir V.O: Good morning, please pass me your passport and your I-20. I did and he was like "please push your passport a little bit further". I pushed it and asked, "is it okay now sir?" VO: Yes it is. Why are you going to the US I: (deep breath + killer smile) To uhm, pursue a masters degree in Biology, Biomedical Science Concentration at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City Tennessee. V.O: Why this degree? I: I really want to work as a research scientist at a renowned biomedical research Institute here in Nigeria. Unfortunately, a masters degree in Biology or a closely related field is the minimum requirement for such a position. So this degree would not just help me hone my research skills or build my critical thinking, it would qualify me for the position I really want, when I return. V.O: So why did you pick this school? I: (Gesticulating with magical hands) For me, it wasn't just about the generous funding I received, which I am extremely grateful for by the way, it had a lot more to do with the student-faculty relationship I have built with my potential supervisor, professor Burna boy. We Skyped a couple of times and we have chosen a thesis topic I am super excited about. V.O: What other schools did you apply to? I: I applied at Texas A&M University, Commerce VO: uhum(while typing) I: Cleveland State University Ohio and Kansas State University Manhattan Kansas. VO: Have you travelled out of the country before? I: I have not had the need to sir. VO: Are you married I: No sir V.O: You said you have funding, let me see the evidence I: My school did not give me an official letter but it's on the I-20(I pointed at the document so he looked at it) V.O: Ok I see $9590 to be payed by someone ,who is this? I: That's my mum sir V.O: What does she do? I: My mum is a business woman, she sells African fabrics and traditional bridal attires V.O: Yes do you have any proof, I want to see evidence. I was confused and he mentioned "or bank statement" I: (Killer smile)Yes, with all pleasure. Just a moment please. So I got the bank statement V.O(while looking at the statement) Doesn't your mum have other children to sponsor in school? I: (I never expected that question, so my English technically failed me, so I looked at him and answered) All of us have finished school, it remainder two of us. I was so embarrassed about my grammatical blunder but I was glad he understood the point, we were all done with school except two of my siblings. V.O: Ok, I will be approving your Visa. He hands me the white paper. Talked about pick up in three working days, gave me back my SOA and I-20, asked me to keep it carefully and I would need the latter at the port of entry... Told me to have a wonderful day I: (Killer smile) Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the day too. Yup, I bounced out of the building THE END |

Thank you so much for this. I would do as advised. I appreciate you. bracelum: Don't worry about not getting fully funded. You're in a good place and if you play your game well, $44K per year will be insignificant compared to the gains you will get from your network and the Emory brand.
I've got two advice for you;
1. Work closely with your classmates (who should be smart and well-accomplished people): This is the greatest benefit of attending elite schools because most of your classmates are smart and well-accomplished. Those individuals will be the future leaders in the society. When you build friendships with them and compete with them, you will discover that you will keep pushing yourself harder and you will keep improving. Compete with them in class, extracurriculars and the job search. You will discover how transformative your Emory experience will be after two years.
This is just like the Ronaldo vs Messi competition. When Ronaldo sees Messi doing great, he becomes motivated to do better and vice versa. The healthy competition impoves both of them simultaneously. This is one of the biggest benefits of attending an elite school with super-smart classmates.
2. Build your network: Emory (just like other elite colleges) hire the very best Professors. These Professors have tons of industry connections through industry experience in top organizations. You won't be surprised to see leaders of top organizations in your faculty (yeah, those elite schools pay tons of $$ to hire the best faculty). So, try and build connections with those Professors and get them in your network. You don't need to network with every Professor, but make sure that by the time of graduation, you have 5 Professors (with solid connections) that you can comfortable claim to have a solid relationship with.
Do not limit your network to your Professors. Check your alumni resources. Your school should have notable alumni in top organizations and they will be willing to connect with an Emory student. If you're lucky to have a strong connection with an accomplished alum who knows many other accomplished people, you're set for life . It happens a lot!!!
So, these two benefits are what you're paying $44K per year to acquire. To be honest, you can't put a price tag on them because they are invaluable. So, make sure you spend significant time building your network and leveraging all the benefits Emory has to give you. Five years from now, $44K per year will mean nothing to you. |

Interview was not like a standard F1 visa interview though
VO: Pass me your passports Me: I obliged plus our I20 VO: Why Emory University Me: Firstly it is one of the few Universities that offer Global Health in US as a department on it's own and not as a certificate/side option and they also have my concentration which is Infectious disease. Also, its location in Atlanta which is known to be the world public health capital is a major factor because it would expose me in practical terms as a result of the presence of major public health organisations there like the headquarters of CDC, The Carter centre, American cancer society etc.......I stopped talking at this point because I felt I had said enough and didnt want to bore her eventhough I still had other points and she didnt cut me off. I remembered ranking, which was one of my main reasons afterwards but didnt bother again.Thankfully, it didnt work against me. She just kept nodding and this is the only student related question I was asked VO: How many children do you have Me: 3 VO: and where are the other 2(I went with my first son only) Me: They are at home. They are not eligible for Visa. I gave birth to them in US VO: when is their DOB and how old are they Me: -/-/2015 & -/-/2016...... 4yrs and 2+ VO: Did you declare your intent at the POE when you went to deliver Me: Yes VO: How much was your delivery fee Me: $11838 for the first and $11959 for the second. I have my receipts here if you want to check but she declined Typed for like forever, then she approved us.
I had to give back to this community hence the reason for this transcript, if not, theres really nothing much for F1 visa aspirants to see. I learnt alot here and i am grateful to everyone here. Thank you to all the gurus holding this house up, you guys are the real VIPs and ofcourse I return all the Glory to God. |

Thank you. No Husband is not going, his work is here. He has a valid B1/B2 so he wont be applying for F2. Thanks. The answer is YES. You can apply for your domestic employee to accompany you to the US while you are on an F1 Visa. The visa that they will get if granted is a B-1. It is very difficult to get though especially given the current mood (higher level of refusals for temporary visitors including students) at the US consulates in Nigeria. You will need to have exceptionally high financial means and both you, your family and your domestic help will have to prove major ties to Nigeria. The staff member must have also worked for you for a specified period of time plus other pre-conditions. In addition, previous travel history with your domestic staff will be helpful i.e if he or she has travelled with you to the UK or US in the past. Finally, remember that your husband cannot work or complete any credit earning courses while on an F2 so the expectation is that if he is accompanying you, he should be able to take care of the children considering he will not be able to do anything else there so you will have to prove your case. In summary, very difficult but not impossible. All the best! See this link for details; http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-typedomesticemployee.asp
|

Applying for F2 is for spouse and children, i tried to goggle for Visa for domestic help and B1 looks like my option. Yeah you are right, re-issuing of visa does not have anything to do with if the previous visa was used or not. She should just renew before leaving. Ebony84: There's no rule that says you have to travel before you renew. I was in the same situation in 2016, I was issued a visa in Jan 2014 for holiday but never got to travel. Then found out I was pregnant in Jun 2015, renewed my visa via dropbox in Nov 2015 before expiry. I just applied now again via dropbox was asked to book a 221G appointment which I have not had yet.
You can renew before you travel but just have your documents ready in case you get called in. |

Don't try number 1, firstly I saw someone that was denied at the embassy when I went for my follow up interview based on That, the VO told her she stayed on with an expired visa, secondly what if the CBP officer does not stamp you in for 6months? It's not automatic that you are stamped in for 6months, I was stamped in for 4months sometimes because my passport was going to expire and have read less than 6months on this thread also. In my opinion, if you are very buoyant, go for 1 week or 10days vacation this summer, then do drop box applying for medical visa when you get back. All the best. Yinkzy03: Good day Mothers in the House, you guys are wholesome and I pray that it shall all end in praise and thanksgiving in Jesus name.
Please I need advice from Veteran Mothers, see my request below;
So I applied for a medical Visa Oct 2013 and was granted , went to the embassy with my medical bills paid . We lost the baby but still travelled May 2014. Asked me at POE and I explained we got a medical Visa coz we were expecting a baby which we lost , the officer sympathized with us and stamped us in. Then we did a drawbox entry for renewal jan 2017. We planned to use the Visa 2018 but now I m pregnant again. I m due feb 2019 and my Visa expires jan 2019. Now we re confused on what to do . Either 1. Should I go to the Us say Nov 2018 and I should be probably stamped in for 6months . Meaning on leaving Us , my Visa would have been expired 2. Do another draw box renewal, even without using the 2 years Visa that is expiring soon. 3 . Reapply for a Medical Visa and pay all my bills and visit the embassy . Please appreciate your quick response to enable plan properly. Thank you |

My daughter was hypoglycemic at birth. I put her to breast as soon as she was cleaned up and they asked me if they could give her formulae or Its exclusive breastfeeding, I told them to go ahead as I was tired and I didn't want her to end up in NICU. The glucose level came up after the formula. Relax, if you are not lactating well i 'll suggest add formula with breastfeeding at most every 2hrs. Aibisoye0: Hello mamas and papas,

In the spirit of giving back....thanks to this forum. Went for my 221g follow up interview last week Tues 10am Abuja.
Background info....was called for a follow up interview in 2016 after drop off, it wasn't called 221g then I guess because I was only sent a mail by the embassy to pick a Tuesday to come for interview by 1pm and that session was majorly for follow up interviews so my heart skipped two beats when I saw a letter this time around and a name attached to it plus booking another appointment....Thanks to fyorgyn, her transcript allayed my fears.
VO: Good morning Me: Good morning VO: Your passports Pls, You were in the US in 2016. How long were you there for Me: 3months VO: What were you doing for 3months Me: I went to have my baby VO: In 2014 when you came, the VO asked you if you were going to have a baby and you said no Me: No she asked me if I was pregnant and I wasn't at that time. I conceived 3months after and I wrote a letter to the embassy which I got a reply to that effect. I have the correspondence here if you would want to see it. (She declined) VO: Oh I see that in your last interview (looking at her screen). Did you declare your intent to the CBP officer? Me: Yes VO: How many children do you have Me: 3 VO: How many did you birth in the US Me: 2 VO: What year Me: 2015 and 2016 VO: When did you have your baby in 2015 Me: March 2015 (I know she wanted to calculate if it was more than 9months after I got the visa) VO: How much was the bill for each delivery Me: $11838 for the first and over $11000 for the second. I have my receipts here if you would want to have a look (Again she declined) VO: What do you do Me: I am a Medical Doctor VO: How much do you earn in a month Me: XYZ VO: What does your husband do Me: Bleep bleep VO: How much does he earn in a month Me: XYZ VO: So you are not travelling with the children Me: They would be travelling one week earlier with their Dad for a family celebration.( I filled on my application form that I would be travelling with my first son only hence this question) VO: Does your husband have a valid visa Me: His visa just expired, he already did a drop off VO: So how long are you planning to stay Me: 1month VO: What are you going for Me: Summer vacation VO: If you become pregnant would you prefer to birth your child in America or Nigeria Me: Am done with childbirth VO: Peradventure you become pregnant? Me: I would prefer America VO: Asking so I can note it here so you can use the visa for medical(she smiled for the first time here) Me: Thank you VO: Your visa has been approved blah blah blah blah I didn't hear anything again... Me: Thank you.
No document was checked only our passports(my son and I) was collected. I went with the following documents though:
Itemized bill and zero balance letter for both deliveries My Bank of America bank statement Hubbys bank statement Letter of employment Correspondence between the embassy and I regarding my change of Intent in Dec 2014 The children's birth certificate and passport
All the best to others on the line for Interview. |

Wow Congratulations so happy for you. God would preserve them all. ladeonas: I am Here to thank God Almighty:
Firstly for seeing me through my baby delivery days. Yes this is my second delivery and last one. The first was a Boy virginal and the second are triplets(2boys & a Girl)
The first time was a smooth sail. I did not realize how merciful God can be. Everything was already sorted by my Husband and uncle in the states.
For the triplets it was a drop-box also easy, however the coming back and settling the bills was a mountain I cant believe I scaled. Please Praise the Lord with me d 3 babies came out Via CS healthy NO incubator bill($1,500/night/baby).
Paid $320 for 2 of my babies and I found out that the 3rd baby would have to buy a specialized car seat and pay almost $2,000 for a one-way trip. Praise the Lord again for me ooo. I found a distant uncle coming to Naijs for a month leaving on the same day we were leaving. That how we paid only $220, can u imagine cheaper than the 2 going with us.
POE- The CBP officer asked us how long we were here for,(I and DH came in on the different days however we had same experience) DH said he will be around for 2 months and I will be around for 4months plus.
CBP asked no question about payment or all, just sent us to Agric section, we came in via LAX around 2pm with Virgin Airlines. He stamped us in.
The black American CBP officer in Agric was very friendly
I had my babies at Methodist Mansfield Medical centre. My bill was:
Doctor c-section - $3,200 ( Includes ante-natal, all lab test and ultrasound)
Anesthesia - $1,270
Hospital- $8,000 (included Hearing Test)
Lab done at the hospital for me and babies, Total was $320
Pediatrician – sent $3,200 ( 3 days hospital visit) – still negoiating
Paid $320 to my pediatrician for 2weeks newborn screening (Not mandatory)
Circumcision – done in Niaja
Did visa on arrival paid $570.
Thank God for His infinite mercies, mother, father and babies are doing well and are back home. It is all by the grace of God. |

I used Grady health system for my first and Northside hospital for my second. For north side it's $3550 for a vaginal birth for self-pay patients, Pediatrics $300 approximately, Anesthesia $1000 approximately for epidural. I used Riverbend Ob-Gyn and it's a $3000 flat rate for both vaginal birth and CS for doctors fee. Grady is higher than this. I 'll suggest you go to north side hospitals site and check out their doctors profile you should be able to get something lower than $3000 for doctors fee. Don't forget to consider distance from where you 'll reside to the doctors office also. All the best. Fantastic4: Hello House,
I have followed this thread and it has been super helpful to me. Thank you to all who have contributed.
Please I need urgent help.
I'll be travelling to Atlanta for delivery and I need an affordable Hospital and DR. I can't seem to lay my hands on any affordable one. They're totalling $9k and above for Hospital and DR alone(for Normal Delivery o)

Hi, please what was the reason for your 221g request? I have a 221g request also, I would love to know how your interview went please. Thank you.
If you want to travel July ending you should apply asap.
The reason for this is that you MAY be called for interview and getting a date can be a headache!
My visa was to expire in November and I applied late September/early October. My passport was returned after like 15 days with a 221g request. This was already mid October. The closest date for interview was November 2nd and I had to be in the US by November 4 for a conference.
I got the visa but missed my conference because the US embassy kept my passport for another 15days!!!!!!
So please apply to renew your visa early especially if you need to travel.
|
