CareerRe: 8 Annoying Jobs Nigeria Graduates Do In Order To Survive At Overseas Countries by Tochaigh: 4:22pm On Jan 22, 2016
wristbangle:
The rush for greener pasture has becloud the vision of Nigeria Graduates to the extent that most believe nothing good can happen owing to the deplorable state of the country's economy.

As a result of negative economic situation, some have travelled to the overseas in search for good jobs but it's unfortunate that they eventually secure shameful occupation which they can't even wish for their enemy to do.

Therefore, 8 Annoying Jobs Nigeria Graduates Do In Order To Survive At Overseas Countries

1. Cleaner

It's so demoralising to see a PHD holder cleaning toilets, streets, floor of hotels, bars and offices. No matter how terrible Nigeria economy is, a graduate of such calibre cannot even think for once in picking such jobs in this county except if his/her village witches are at work.

2. Security guard

I have heard cases of professors in Nigeria University been employed as security guard in overseas countries because his quality of education and expertise cannot even match the skills an employer is looking for. What could be so agonising to see your celebrated professor as puppet in another country?

3. Washing dead bodies

It's rather an insult upon injury to see a Graduate of this country washing dead body in another man's land to make end meets. The most annoying thing they claim to be working as forensic officer but what happens when they contact a deadly disease during the occupation, of course prophet T.B joshua will be at their rescue.

4. Prostitution

I don't know why some ladies who are graduates has completely lost self esteem and integrity hereby resorting to prostitution career when they travel to overseas. This is a common act in countries like Italy and Brazil where they have sex with all sort of men, dog, horse and monkey in order to make money. I am sure that people must have heard the story of a female Nigeria celebrity who did this act. I pity the guy that will marry her.

5. House maid

I believe that the highest qualification to select a house maid suppose to be someone with O level certificate but the case is different in overseas countries where some Nigeria graduate make mockery of their selves to work as house help.

6. Refuse and Sewage packer

Honestly speaking I pity the life of refuse and sewage workers because they are marred with poor health condition which is as a result of the bad stench oozing from the waste. Let's be frank here, can a white man work as sewage worker in Nigeria? Abi no be the same brain God give us?

7. Drug smuggler

Smuggling cocaine, hemp, marijuana and other hard drugs is not a legitimate occupation and it can never be. Greed and desperation to become wealthy fast has ruin the destiny of so many Nigeria Graduates whereby some have rot in jail while others has received death penalty.

8. Undertaker

There is dignity in when a graduate of this country patiently build his/her career at expense of picking a job that will never add value to his resume. Imagine a graduate working as undertaker (lifting corpse in coffin) at overseas countries because of the money attached. Is that life?

You can also add yours
Do you know what the minimum wage for legal jobs is in the US? $7.5 per hour.

Even banking Job don't pay up to that in Nigeria.

Annoying or not, the money justifies the means for most people. What's your headache with that?

PoliticsNigerians deserve good governance, tax or no tax. by Tochaigh(op):
So, @jayfolarin wrote an article brandishing Nigerians as ignorant individuals, presently undeserving of any form of good governance. OK. Because he mentioned at&t , i will assume he was typing from the US.

Let me first tell you what the minimum wage for US is:
United States minimum wage – $7.25 per hour/$1624 per month 1. So, imagine an ordinary waitress earning $1624*200=N324,800, in Nigeria. Minimum wage in Nigeria is N18,000. So if the US government takes back 40% of over N320,000, whats bad about that?! Plus you can clearly see what your money is being used for, not to mention the numerous loans, social security plans, funds that the average US citizen enjoys.

According to Wikipedia, the average household income in the US is $51,939 2. Imagine an average household in Nigeria, with 4-6children earning $51,939*200=N10,387,800. This income combines the income of both spouses. Note the word ‘average’. N10.3 is the kind of money those living in big estates in Lekki make, not the amount a school teacher’s family make in Nigeria.

Now to the mobile data, i was going to write an article on this, but i will summarize here. Take for example, google fiber offered by google to select areas in the US. Google fiber offers speed up to 1gb/s, yes you heard that right 1gb per second browsing and download speed, and as low as 5mb per second depending on the plan you choose. To get google fiber setup for you and for the 5mb/sec speed costs a one-time, $300, just once, no subsequent fees. What is that to someone that earns $1624 in a month?! The mobile carriers offer an average speed of 10mb/sec at a higher cost.
My glo comnection rarely surpasses 200k/sec during the day, and that's when it's good. I used to use etisalat, 1mb/sec, max but for steep prices.

Those defending our network carriers will mention lack of constant stable electricity, as the reason for their high charges and incompetence in delivering stable and moderately fast internet services. I tried downloading with glo yesterday afternoon, it was hell, you wont believe i saw 500b/s, the highest it got to was 40kb/s. I will list competitive advantages that Nigeria internet service providers have over those in the US:

1. Less tax by the Nigerian government.
2. Cheap labour.
3. Less bureacracy.
4. Cheaper cost cause of worse technology. We are still on 2g, and 3g, when the world has moved past 4g to lte. Samsumg is working on 5gb/s capable wifi, which will be available by 2020.
Have you wondered that Mtn, airtel and glo (etisalat wasnt in nigeria then), were making money before internet browsing became mainstream in Nigeria. They were making profit when they werent internet service providers. What upgrades did they make to warrant charging customers N8k for 6gig, i am looking at you etisalat.

I'm university graduate, awaiting Nysc call-up, I started a business in school, selling smartphones, why should the government charge my meagre savings. Isnt this stealing?! The US government gives students loans not charges. The first time i heard of lower charge/price for students was at a cinema in Lagos, it was weird, but since then my eyes has opened to how almost all big businesses in the US and around the world almost always have special plans/prices for students.

The US did not tax its way to good governance. Contrary to what you would have us believe. Plus i'd be happy to pay 40-50% of my minimum wage as an ordinary watress, with all the attendant benefits i listed earlier. We are not illiterates in Nigeria, when you look at tax, you have to look at in terms of the country's GDP. In 2010 taxes collected by federal, state and municipal governments amounted to 24.8% of GDP. In the OECD, only Chile and Mexico taxed less as a share of GDP. 3

In the US there, their are numerous venture capitalist fund and loans to start your business, the only one that has helped a few thousand Nigerians, youwin, has been shutdown, without appropriate reasons. Shutdown just because its an initiative of a former government and you want me to give the same government my hardearned money. www.harrys.com sells cheap, quality shaving sticks, shaving cream, it got over $10m investment to challenge the likes of gullet. www.warbyparker.com sells eyeglasses and sunglasses, it is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and you want to defend Nigerian telecoms, who think sponsoring beauty pageant and singing competitions is the right way to give back to the people. I go on and on about successful US 'small businesses', I follow them that much! Just go to www.shopify.com and see what I'm talking about. Do you know how many totally new business ideas I have on my phone with no capital to start?! I'm hustling day and night to get capital and you want to five it to a government that budgets billions for cars and sees nothing wrong in junketeering. A lot of senators in the US have destroyed their careers by simply going on unnecessary trips with taxpayers money.

Electricity isn't rocket science, South-Africans have stable electricity and aren't paying millions for it.

Finally, @jayfolarin, please tell us how much you make in a month. Every Tom, dick and harry american on instagram owns an iphone 6/6s as if its pure water.

Meanwhile, I just but 'purewater' for N10.

1. Google 'US minimum wage'
2. Google 'us household income'

PoliticsRe: Nigerians: You Live In A Paradise And Dont Even Know It! by Tochaigh: 2:55pm On Jan 20, 2016
jayfolarin:
I'v wanted to write this article for over 2 months but its discouraging thinking about the number of points i need to raise to support my claims! NIGERIANS WANT THE BEST THINGS BUT NEVER WANT TO PAY FOR IT!! HOW ON EARTH DO YOU WANT YOUR COUNTRY TO DEVELOP?!

Quick question; Imagine government fixes Nigeria's issues of electricity and internet with other basic amenities today, Who here would be willing to pay an annual rent of N1million for a single room (Not one bedroom flat oo) in a city like Ado-Ekiti and N3million for the most average single room (shared toilet and bathroom with at least one other person e.g face me, I face you houses) in a city like Lagos?! Note: This is just basic rent and is therefore without utility bills such as Electricity, Heating, Water, Garbage, Internet etc that averages about another N900,000 yearly.

I couldn't stop shaking my head at the gullibility of some Nigerians as i read the various comments on the N50 bank charges thread. That is what? 2cents charge on banking transactions that does not even include savings account that most of the commenters use oo! Even South Africa reportedly demands that you pay an equivalent of N500 for deposits into your own account (Savings or Current)! Where I live, you are demanded to pay an equivalent N4,200 in charges for deposit into another's account if you aren't a customer of the bank!

Nigeria has the lowest VAT tax in the world and i'm sure y'all will take to the streets in protests if this is ever increased! I pay N1,500 in charges for every ATM interbank withdrawal of an equivalent of N10,000 and you all couldn't stop screaming at the N65 naira (after 3rd transaction) that was introduced by the CBN last year! Haba Nigerians!! You want to live 'comfortably' like Americans and Europeans but aren't ready to pay the price! Who does that sh*t! One of the major reasons why you don't enjoy goodies is because because you haven't had to pay enough taxes. It is partly a reason why the government doesn't feel very responsible to the people as well. Oil is not anyone's property anyways.

I really can't remember the last time i visited an hospital but i'm mandated to pay an equivalent of N23,000 monthly for health insurance! Would you be willing to pay such amount for the sake of development in the health care sector in Nigeria?! I don't think so but you would be the first to take pictures for nairaland about the pitiable state of one hospital in your city!

You want the best Infrastructures in the world but have never paid taxes from your businesses! Some people would rather close up shop than pay the most basic tax to the government! How on earth do you expect any development if you aren't ready to help government with funds? Nigeria is not the only country with oil, we don't even have as much as Russia but expect to get everything for free because there's oil in the land! What would y'all have done if you didn't have anything but rocks and granite? you would expect the government officials to use their personal incomes to develop the country first and then see if you like it or not before you decide to pay?! I no pity your destiny!

Nowhere in the world is mobile internet data cheap, Nigerians automatically feel they are being ripped off by mobile operators who use the same infrastructure that's being deployed everywhere else! For a 2gb mobile internet data allowance from T-mobile, I pay N5,000 monthly, This is not even close to what Nigerians get from the mobile operators but they scream to the heavens still. Agreed, cable/ADSL, wired internet is cheaper but you cant blame this on the telecom industries, Government should make provisions for that! But again, how many persons would not scream 'Rip off' if you all are asked to pay a mandatory internet fee ranging in thousands of Naira every month

From food to clothings, transportation, even prostitutes (Girls in brothels here charge at least 12k for a quickie, Don't ask me how i know grin), Nigerians live on the cheap and want to keep up with the expensive! No! It doesn't work that way! You have to pay for developments that leads to a robust economy which in turn leads to higher standard of living (Job creation, Increment in Minimum wage, Good roads, healthcare facilities etc)..
Others have given you appropriate answers, so i won't bother countering your points but,

Why don't you wish your life mirrors the Paradise that Nigeria is?! How about that?! Uhn! Your life a pixel perfect representation of Nigeria. Enjoy the Paradise.

Google fiber is onetime 60k, $300, to setup in the US with 5mb speed, unlimited data-cap, and goes up to 1gb/s for monthly fees. Do you know what speed I am browsing with, do you know how frustrating it is to browse and download here. If I curse you with the network speed of glo ehn!!

Tell us how much you make a month. STOP this foolish hypocrisy. What is the minimum wage in the US? What is the minimum wage in Nigeria? 18k. Oya compare it

However to the issue at hand. Have you ever heard or read any documentation from the accused on the $2.1 Billion arms deal?
Is there any evidence concrete to support all your assertions except newspaper excerpts that are not admissible before competent court?
If there is enough evidence against Dasuki, why not proceed on trial once and for all? Is he saying he does not want to face trial?
Why sensationalise an issue, gag the judiciary and blame everyone for a simple matter that you can come to court with and get justice?

The burden of proof is on EFCC and its employer to proof Dasuki has done something wrong. And by the way, what we are saying is simple:

SINCE DASUKI IS BEING TRIED ON PAGES OF NEWSPAPER, THE COURT TRIAL MUST ALSO BE OPEN TO ALL. NO SECRET TRIAL. WE WANT TO KNOW! AND WE DESERVE TO KNOW!

Oga forget what GEJ said in USA. There are document with DSS and EFCC. Sambo Dasuki, the main at the center insisted that GEJ approved the $2.2billion for arms. What Iwaela said was that she wasn't part of the entire $2.2billion extra budgetary arms deal, she said she was only involved in the committee that allocated $300million Abacha fund to Dasuki. The $300million isn't exclusive of the $2.2billion, it forms part. Jonathan on his own said he didn't approve $2.2billion "at once", and nobody said it was approved "at once". GEJ is yet to deny approving it. Beside, there are documents and authorisations.

Again, it is no scam. Dokpesi and co should save their sermon for the judge.
