NAF HOLDS COMBINED GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR INSTRUCTOR PILOTS, CAPTAINS, FIRST OFFICERS AS CAS COMMISSIONS 401 FTS HALL OF FAME The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 10 December 2019, held a combined Graduation Ceremony for Instructor Pilot Courses 10/2019 and 11/2019 as well as the presentation of certificates to Captains and First Officers on the Diamond 42 and 40 aircraft at its 401 Flying Training School (401 FTS) in Kaduna. In addition, a Hall of Fame built to showcase the pilots that have passed through the 401 FTS was also commissioned. In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was the Guest of Honour at the occasion, expressed his delight at the positive trend of activities and milestones of progress recorded by the Air Training Command (ATC) and 401 FTS, in particular. One of these landmark achievements, he recalled, was the graduation of Student Pilot Course (SPC) 45 in June 2019 - a class of bright young cadets who concluded their Ab-initio flying training before they were commissioned as officers. According to him, the combined graduation marked another milestone and was a positive departure from the erstwhile norm. The CAS recalled a time when flying training in the NAF faced a lot of challenges ranging from unserviceable platforms to lack of spares and other sundry issues but noted that, since the assumption of Office of the Buhari-led Federal Government, the Service has acquired several additional platforms, including 10 Super Mushshak, to boost flying training efforts in 401 FTS, Kaduna. He stated further that, since these acquisitions, about 139 Student Pilots (SPs) had passed through 401 FTS. Of this number, a total of 110 SPs successfully completed their training in the school, while the other 29 proceeded for their flying training overseas. “These achievements are a very giant leap from what was obtainable in the past. I am equally aware that there are 30 SPs currently undergoing their ab-initio training as members of SPC 46, while SPC 47 will be resuming in January 2020 for their training. The human capacity development efforts of this administration have consequently enhanced our force projection capability not only within Nigeria but also beyond our borders”, he added. While congratulating the graduating pilots and instructors, the CAS charged them to ensure safe and efficient operations of the various platforms assigned to them whilst putting into consideration such factors as airworthiness of the aircraft, weather, flight regulations and air traffic control procedures, amongst others. Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 401 FTS, Air Commodore Eneobong Effiom, remarked that the successes recorded by the School were made possible due to the unwavering support of the current NAF leadership that had ensured the enabling environment for effective flying training. He said, as a result, 401 FTS has recorded tremendous achievements in the last 4 years including the conduct of several re-currency trainings for pilots as well as graduation of 28 members of SPC 45 and ongoing flying Phase training for 30 members of SPC 46. Other highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of Course Certificates and Badges to the graduands as well as the commissioning of the “Air Marshal SB Abubakar Hall of Fame” within the School. At a time when a substantial part of Nigeria's resources come from offshore sources, the Nigerian Navy needs $1.3 billion to acquire new hardware to secure its territorial waters, according to Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, who is seeking the acquisition of at least five new ships. Addressing a public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety and Administration, Ibas said the required long term acquisitions include a general-purpose frigate valued at $350 million, a long-endurance Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) valued at $120 million, a medium-endurance OPV estimated at $60 million, a landing platform dock (LPD) ship worth $350 million and a landing ship-tank valued $90 million. Other required assets include a submarine worth $300 million, a Seaward Defence Boat (SDB) worth $10 million and a specialised naval security helicopter at an estimated cost of $25 million.(That's part of the plan.A 1.3billion dollar program) |

INTERNAL SECURITY: NAF GRADUATES 717 PERSONNEL, TRAINS 3,629 IN FORCE PROTECTION IN JUST OVER FOUR YEARS In furtherance of its continued efforts to build the capacity of its personnel for the effective protection of its bases and air assets as well as improve its capability to tackle the current security challenges in the Country, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 6 November 2019, graduated 717 personnel, comprising 623 Regiment and 94 Air Police personnel, trained in Force Protection in Complex Air-Ground Environment (FP-CAGE). The combined graduation of Basic Regiment Officers’ Course 15/2019, Advanced Regiment Airmen’s Course 4/2019, Basic Regiment Airmen’s Course 28/2019 and the FP-CAGE Course 9/2019, which took place at the Shittu Alao Hall, Regiment Training Centre (RTC), Kaduna, brings the total number of personnel trained in FP-CAGE since the NAF entered into partnership with the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) in 2015 to 3,629. Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the RTC has remained a centre of excellence for the impartation of ground combat skills to Regiment personnel for the protection of NAF Bases and aircraft as well as other critical national assets. He said the inclusion of the Air Police and Intelligence personnel in the training has also ensured better synergy in force protection delivery and appropriate delineation of responsibilities for complementary roles in NAF Base Defence Architecture. He observed that the quality of the training delivered by the RTC has been quite evident in the exemplary performance of Regiment personnel currently deployed in 10 ongoing operations across the country in the fight against insurgency, banditry and other forms of criminality. Air Marshal Abubakar pledged that the NAF would continue to reinvigorate capabilities as well as develop additional skillsets to counter prevailing security challenges in the Country. While congratulating the graduating students on their achievement, the CAS urged them to continue to submit themselves to civil authority and strive to protect Nigeria’s democracy at all times whilst remaining vigilant and guarding against being used by ‘disgruntled elements’ in the society. Air Marshal Abubakar also seized the opportunity to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his continued support to the NAF. He equally commended the efforts of the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC GTC) as well as the Commandant and staff of RTC for a job well-done. Furthermore, the CAS specially thanked and commended BMATT, especially the Detachment Commander of No 5 Royal Air Force, Force Protection Wing, Squadron Leader Nathan Foster, for his dedication, hard work and commitment to the FPCAGE training. “It is my sincere hope that we will continue to sustain our long-standing cooperation and relationship with the Government of the United Kingdom”, he said. Earlier in his welcome remarks, the AOC GTC, Air Vice Marshal Idi Amin, stated that the RTC’s curriculum was continuously being revised in response to combat experiences and requirements to make the training more effective and realistic to meet the evolving complexities of operational environments. He said he was therefore confident that the graduating students had acquired the necessary skills to be effective in securing NAF Bases and assets while at the same time supporting sister Services and security agencies in internal security operations across the country. He however highlighted that the commendable achievements recorded by the RTC would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the CAS, which had ensured an enabling environment for the timely, qualitative turn out of well-trained Regiment personnel. He therefore expressed his profound gratitude to the CAS for his determined focus on capacity development of NAF personnel. As part of the ceremony, the graduating students had earlier conducted an exercise simulating the countering of an insurgent threat to the Base by an FPCAGE Team supported by an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft. Another highlight of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of awards to students who distinguished themselves during the various courses. Dignitaries that graced the occasion included the Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Brach Chiefs from Headquarters NAF, the AOC Air Training Command, the United Kingdom’s Defence Adviser in Nigeria as well as Commanders of co-located NAF Units in Kaduna, among other senior serving and retired officers. Ok lemme just break it down to what I know..I'm still very young (17yrs) and I may be wrong or right.First The Andonni class SDB1 is an 30meters inshore patrol vessel Right. And it wasn't built to sail offshore in higher seas.Good. Karaduwa class SDB2 is a 40meters Midshore patrol vessel.Which has participated in several international Maritime exercise but in the shores of Nigeria And outside. The vessel was one of the star attraction at Ghana Navy Anniversary.it showcased the ingenuity of our naval engineers. The current vessel under construction is according to the CNS going to showcase the ingenuity of the naval dockyard. Now we may not have any ship with missile capability,or Anti submarine warfare. We will get there. The Navy is first dealing with its current challenge. We critizing the Navy for not buying subs or Frigates is like tell the NAF to go for the S400 air defense systems when we know what they need is CTCOIN platform for insurgency ops.All I'm saying is whether it's a Gunboats or IPV NDL builds we should appreciate it.they have a vision and they are getting somewhere.I can proudly say Nigeria is among nation's who has developed their military hardware from scratch.Rather than license built.which is a Good thing... Next year we will receive one of our LST from Damen, Hydrographic ship from Ocean.E.T.C and some helo from Leonardo helicopters |
jln115:our karaduwa which is 40m long is an MPV.And yes we do have three missile combatte class ships. |
jln115:Mpv(Midshore patrol vessel) not IPV(Inshore patrol vessel).. it will be fitted with Missiles systems too so.its even more capable than a MPV |
kabe1:bros u nor dey get.. I said almost as big as dat.Not "As big as dat" |
