Sports › Enyeama Calls For Goal Line Technology After Embarrassing Ethiopia Goal by Tolexander(op): 11:54am On Oct 14, 2013
Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has said that goal-line technology would have resolved the embarrassing goal that he conceded against Ethiopia in Nigeria's 2-1 victory in Sunday’s first leg 2014 World Cup play-off game in Addis Ababa.

Walia Antelopes' midfielder Behailu Assefa scored in bizarre fashion as Enyeama caught his deep left-wing cross after the ball had the crossed the line.

Enyeama said that Assefa’s goal should not have stood.

“From my position it wasn’t a goal and I’m still very surprised the referee called it a goal because he wasn’t even on my line. He was metres away. I’m surprised also that the second linesman called for a goal,” Enyeama told the media.

“I’ll go back to see it on video but it still boils down to the goal-line technology thing. I don’t know what to say but it wasn’t a goal from my own perspective.”

Early in the first half, Nigeria defender Godfrey Oboabona made a goal line clearance from Saladin Said’s shot which the home team had begun celebrating before referee Neant Alioum adjudged it had not crossed the line.

“[The first one] wasn’t a goal also. There’s a difference when the video is on the line of the goal. [Oboabona] pulled the ball out almost on the line,” Enyeama defended his team mate.

Fifa will introduce goal line technology at next year’s World Cup but it’s not yet known how soon African countries will adopt it. Nigeria will host the return leg in Calabar next month.

stewie100: on my time on this website reading so many silly comments, tribalism and ignorance on this forum from mostly Homebased Nigerians i have almost lost my sanity and sense of civility .
i think its high time for us to separate the chaffs from the grain ,i hereby request to the owner of this website MR SEUN to create another exclusive section on nairaland for civilized, intelligent Nigerians (diasporans) to have a more civil experience on this forum.

a separation of chaffs from grains ,we need a bridge and a civilized gated community.and we need a nairaland prison for tresspassers
boy!

Don't pretend to understand what is going on on nairaland cos everything seems to be concealed to you. You are totally naive!

There are many known members here with their present locations and their attributes so noone can say the foreigners aren't guilty of the nigerian cultures exhibited.

Nigerians are nigerians no matter where they are.

Sincere 9gerian: [s]**Crowd besiege Nigerian Railway over Osun’s free train ride

Beneficiaries express satisfaction, ask other states to emulate

Thousands of holiday makers traveling to Osun, Kwara, Kogi states, and other parts of the country, have besieged the Iddo Terminus of the Nigerian Railway Corporation as the free eid-il-kabir festival free train ride provided by the government of Osun state entered its second day in Lagos. The free train initiative of the Osun state government was to help people travelling home for the Eid-il Kabir festival. But indigenes of neighbouring states have also taken the opportunity to get to various destinations when they arrive in the state capital, Osogbo.

A statement signed by the Commissioner of Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Ismail Adekunle Jayeoba-Alagbada, said the train rideis to facilitate stress-free travelling for the people, who are coming home for the festival. The free train ride, which spans five days, commenced on Saturday 12, 2013. For the journey to Osogbo, the train would take off from Iddo Terminus, Lagos, at 11 o’clock daily on Saturday 12th, Sunday, and Monday 14th.[/s]

The return trip to Lagos, according to the statement, is fixed for Thursday 17th and Saturday 19th as the train would depart Osogbo at 11 o’clock daily. Mr Jayeoba-Alagbada said the government embarked on the initiative in the past three years to reduce the stress people go through during Easter, Eid –il Fitri, Eid –il Kabir and Christmas festivals.

[s]“We hope our people, wherever they are coming from, Oyo, Ogun or Lagos, would make maximum use of this gesture of the government and promptly too. This is a sign that government has the welfare interests of the people at heart and would not detract from providing same as and when required,” Mr Jayeoba-Alagbada said.

A passenger, Idiat Oladosu, who said she was travelling to Oro, Kwara State, said it was a good opportunity for her to reduce her cost of travelling. Ganiyu Alimi, an indigene of Inisa in Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state, said he had been enjoying the free train ride since the inception of the Aregbesolas’ administration.

Awololo Samson, said though he is not a Muslim coming for any festival, he joined the train in Lagos to arrive in Osogbo on his way to Lokoja as he believed that would reduce his cost of travelling.[/s]
