Politics / Buhari’s Victory Might Force Us To Return ‘to The Creeks’ – Asari- Dokubo by tolu4you: 8:19pm On Apr 01, 2015
Leader of defunct Niger-Delta militant, Mujahid Asari-
Dokubo, has said that with the defeat of President
Goodluck Jonathan, he and other militants might be
forced to ‘return to creeks.’
Asari-Dokubo said that the voting pattern showed that
the South-West and the North ganged up again the
South-South and South-East geo-political zone.
Dokubo, in a statement by his spokesperson, Rex
Anighoro, said it was unfair that the minorities were
being emasculated by the majority ethnic groups.
He said he feared that the government of the President-
elect, Muhammadu Buhari, would be vicious, adding
that “The conditions that advanced the need to
embrace the creeks have been sadly re-energised, it is
clear that a vicious government who may maim and
murder the voice of the so called minorities may have
just been birthed.
“Indeed integration is nonexistent as regional gang ups
and supremacy is symbolic with this victory.”
Punch recalls that Dokubo had said in January that he
and his colleagues would wreak havoc if Jonathan
lost. He praised the President for being a true
statesman and said it was the struggle of the militants
that led to the Jonathan presidency.
Asari-Dokubo said since the South-South had lost the
presidency, ex-militants would meet to decide the next
line of action.
He said, “While President Jonathan enjoys his
moments and basks in the euphoria of a now world
renowned statesman having congratulated
Muhammadu Buhari, we must quickly be reminded that
our struggle was never about Jonathan or about the
presidency.
“President Jonathan was a beneficiary of our struggle,
our sweat and blood that many bled and died for, he
was never in the struggle and he can never wish away
our collective march forward for statesmanship.
“Yes indeed to an extent he was a mitigating factor in
self determination pursuit as we went on sabbatical,
this mitigation he seem to have willingly repudiated.
The days coming will be critical, we shall study all the
conditions and consult widely before determining the
way going forward for our collective existence and
survival as a people. The days coming shall either
drive the quest of integration or further separate us.”

Politics / 5 Things We Learnt From Obama’s Message To Nigeria by tolu4you: 7:27pm On Mar 23, 2015
With barely 5 days left to Nigeria’s presidential elections,
U.S president, Barack Obama has sent a warm message
of encouragement to Nigerians.
In a video posted on the YouTube page of the U.S
embassy in Nigeria, Obama harped on the importance of
conducting free and fair elections, while also calling on
all Nigerians to unite to create a positive future for the
country.
We bring you 5 things we learnt from the message.
Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa: Nigeria is a
great nation and you can be proud of the progress you’ve
made. Together, you won your independence, emerged
from military rule, and strengthened democratic
institutions. You’ve strived to overcome division and to
turn Nigeria’s diversity into a source of strength. You’ve
worked hard to improve the lives of your families and to
build the largest economy in Africa.
Every Eligible Nigerian needs to vote for Nigeria to
progress: Now you have a historic opportunity to help
write the next chapter of Nigeria’s progress—by voting in
the upcoming elections .
We bet you already knew this: For elections to be
credible, they must be free, fair and
peaceful. All Nigerians must be able to cast their votes
without intimidation or fear.
We all have a responsibility and part to play: So I call on
all leaders and candidates to make it clear to their
supporters that violence has no place in democratic
elections—and that they will not incite, support or engage
in any kind of violence—before, during, or after the votes
are counted. I call on all Nigerians to peacefully express
your views and to reject the voices of those who call for
violence. And when elections are free and fair, it is the
responsibility of all citizens to help keep the peace, no
matter who wins.
By voting right, we can put an end to the Boko Haram
menace: Successful elections and democratic progress
will help Nigeria meet the urgent challenges you face
today. Boko Haram—a brutal terrorist group that kills
innocent men, women and children—must be stopped.
Hundreds of kidnapped children deserve to be returned to
their families. Nigerians who have been forced to flee
deserve to return to their homes. Boko Haram wants to
destroy Nigeria and all that you have worked to build. By
casting your ballot, you can help secure your nation’s
progress.
And we leave you with this bonus lesson:
Adhere to all the points stated above and Nigeria
will continue to be friends with the United states of
America: I’m told that there is a saying in your country:
“to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.” Today,
I urge all Nigerians—from all religions, all ethnic groups,
and all regions—to come together and keep Nigeria one.
And in this task of advancing the security, prosperity, and
human rights of all Nigerians, you will continue to have a
friend and partner in the United States of America.

Politics / Why We Couldn’t Deploy Troops Against B’Haram -US by tolu4you: 10:57pm On Mar 11, 2015
United States has said it could not deploy troops against Boko Haram
in the North-East because there is a democratically elected
government in Nigeria.

It stated that it was taking the lead against Islamic State of Iraq and
Syria terrorists because there is no functional government in Syria.

A ranking US Congressman and member of the sub-committee on
National Security, Stephen Lynch, who spoke to select journalists in
Abuja on Wednesday, explained that the US had assisted Nigeria with
huge amount of money, adding that America sees Nigeria as a close
ally.

He said, “We are taking the lead against ISIL because there is no
government in Syria, but in Nigeria, there is a democratically elected
government in place. The US is doing what it has been asked to do;
we are providing training, manpower development, capacity building
and we have assisted Nigeria with billions.”

When asked if the US has done enough to assist in rescuing the 219
Chibok school girls abducted by Boko Haram about 331 days ago,
Lynch admitted that America has not done enough to rescue the girls.

“Until the girls are rescued, we have not done enough,” he stated.

The lawmaker who is also a member of the Financial Services
Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,
said the source of Boko Haram financing has been cut off, noting that
the sect could no longer use banks to transfer its funds like before.

The lawmaker whose committee was in Nigeria to continue its nearly
three years investigation of embassy and diplomatic security at high-
risk overseas US State Department facilities, stated that the Nigeria
Financial Intelligence Unit has largely blocked off Boko Haram source
of funding.

The sect, he said, is sustaining its deadly campaign through ransoms
from kidnappings, robberies, imposition of taxes on people and other
criminal activities which are difficult to stop.

Lynch said no insurgency could be sustained without support from
the people, adding that the only way to deprive terrorism of support is
by having the population on the side of the government.

The legislator stressed that the forthcoming election in the country is
very important and advised candidates to speak against violence at
every opportunity, noting that the candidates have a lot of influence
which they could use to preach non-violence polls to their supporters.
