Huawei Suspends New Orders, Furloughs Russia Staff Amid Sanctions Threat – Reports

Chinese telecoms giant Huawei has furloughed its Russian staff for at least one month after suspending new orders as Beijing faces potential secondary sanctions for doing business with Moscow, Forbes Russia has reported.

The United States has warned China not to help Russia evade sanctions, threatening to expand its toolbox of secondary penalties that force companies and investors to choose between doing business with Russia or the West.

“There are no orders, so why should people go to the office?” an unnamed source close to Huawei said.

The mandatory leave of absence follows reporting by the Izvestia daily that the company suspended new supply contracts and ordered some of its Moscow staff to work remotely in late March. Chinese employees continued reporting to the office while the marketing staff had been cut, Forbes reported Friday.

Huawei did not comment on either story and Forbes did not indicate how many employees have been furloughed. Huawei Technologies’ recruitment ads state that it employs 1,200 people, 80% of whom are local staff, in Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Izvestia reported in early April that Russia’s communications ministry said it hoped Huawei’s key competitor Ericsson could step in to maintain supplies. The Swedish telecom equipment maker announced Monday it was suspending business in Russia and putting employees on paid leave.

Huawei, which does not disclose financial and operational performance in Russia, reportedly accounts for 33% of networking gear, including base stations, installed in Russia.

Huawei is also among China’s biggest smartphone makers to have cut smartphone shipments to Russia by at least half since President Vladimir Putin ordered to invade Ukraine on Feb. 24, according to the Financial Times.

Russian telecom operators expect network disruptions and accidents to “increase significantly” after current reserves run out in July-August, according to Izvestia.

But experts say they expect Huawei to find a way to continue supplying Russia over the course of this month. These could include using intermediaries in third countries — helped by Russia’s recent legalization of parallel imports — or transferring intellectual rights to its products to Russian companies.

Huawei is likely reviewing its product range to supply Russia with critical telecom equipment and data storage systems that are made without using U.S. technology, Forbes reported.

Other experts also expect the U.S. Treasury’s exemptions announced Friday on the sale of internet communication hardware, software and services from Russian sanctions to “embolden” Huawei.

Nobody is forcing Ukraine to join NATO. Ukraine has applied to join NATO for a long time. The application remains unapproved. Ukraine understands the impact of the decision they are making, more than most people that comment here. From the onset, NATO cannot fight the war, USA made it clear they will not fight. Russia has more cards to play: Putin can break international laws without facing domestic repercussions, whereas the western presidents cannot. It is up to Ukraine to cave to the pressure from Russia or go to war. They chose to go to war, not because USA told them to. In fact, you need to understand that the Ukrainian president was anti-Biden. Biden played the few cards in his hands- propaganda, it worked for sometime. Sanctions are the only thing left and diplomacy. The only thing that will draw NATO or USA into this war is IF Russia attacts a NATO member country in eastern Europe.

Anybody can say anything. For instance, I can you are not a human being. Saying it does not mean it is true. Coming out with evidence can convince is a new level of proving it is true. Trump and his lawyers are not even arguing there is fraud in the election in court. Outside court, they are shouting there is fraud and they have evidence. All the Trump's lawsuit so far, none is saying there is fraud. The evidences they show us on social media are lies. Stat also shows that abortion is done mostly among the poor, not rich people. So, what some christian organizations do is ask if such children could be adopted after birth. My brother or sister, most of the people that abort will not do it if they have the money to take care of the child. As I have said, MOST, not ALL. There are other reasons do abortion. Some people abort because there is no support, what if we can provide the support by showing them REAL love?

I hope you are still reading people's reply. At a point, I think everyone Christian, especially the exposed, learned and young will get to the situation you found yourself. I am a young Christian and I have to confess to you that I have asked similar questions at certain points. Sometimes, I found the answer, not in the Bible, but in movies and in my heart. I have come to some conclusions that if you want some logical explanations about the existence of God, you will always find illogical explanations as well. Nothing makes sense, however I have had experiences with God that sustains me and I don't have an iota of doubt in my heart that there is God.
I don't know if you have had personal relationship with God. Please, forget about Church now. If you have never conversed or communicated with God to the extent that you hear him, you cannot build a relationship with him. This is one of the things Churches in Nigeria don't teach us.
I wish we can talk, I can share my frustrustions with God with you, but at the end of the day, I have this peace within me that attests to his presence. Have you ever heard him speak to you and he confirms it with people around you? If it is sickness, I believe some of us Christian abuse our bodies in the name of prayer and faith when the bible says my people perish because they lack knowledge. I have been busy lately. I will briefly discuss the 'red flags' that were identified even by the immigration consultant that I consulted. I thought we were not ready for the application considering the consultant's concerns, my wife encouraged us to apply. By the way, I am the student in Canada.
No 1 red flag:Fund- the consultant specifically asked us to gather 17,000 CAD as proof of fund, we were able to raise only 10,000CAD. Though we articulated my scholarship (full funding), 3 health insurance my family is qualified to use and my yearly income in Canada. All these, backed up with proof, I think except one insurance policy I could not locate a print out for.
Red flag 2. My Wife's Job: My wife is not currently working, so the consultant was really concerned about that. Her job could serve as home tie, but we articulated the fact that I am on study leave at my workplace in Nigeria, and I am expected to go back with my family and resume after my program in Canada.

I will give more info later. I am kind of busy now.

But we prayed and I know some people pray for us. God hears and answers prayers.

Application approved. A miracle. It is indeed God's handwriting. Application was so imperfect that I thought there was no way. Indeed, with God all things are possible.

I had this same experience and I mailed them, when they responded, they gave me a date and time to come pick them up at the embassy. Make sure she picks it up as the hospital told me they were not going to attend to us without that stamped passport page( Again this could depend on the hosp). All the best.

Yes, you are absolutely right. The first hospital we called, which we discovered was too expensive later, said they will not do the medical test without the stamped passport page. We called another hospital which was way cheaper, the asked us to come with a copy of the data page of our international passports. So, we did not bother to inform the CIC about the omission.

Let me share my good news with you. After a delay in my SOWP application in March 30 to be precise, I reapplied on May 10, 2017 and got notification to pick my passport yesterday evening. I was scared to go because of all the delay reported on this forum over the weekend. Went today anyway and saw that it was approved. I return all the glory to Jesus. Olowogbogboro has turned things around for my good. He can do it for you too if you believe. #ItHasEndedInPraise

Eventually, she was able to recieve another call from the CIC after she called them back and it entered voicemail again. They called to confirm her email. She received an email to proceed for medical test. Now, we face a challenge: the data page of her passport was not attached. What do you advise us to do, bearing in mind that the CIC sent the stamped data page of my passport when they asked me to proceed for medical test when I applied for study permit. She does not have all the required IDs with her right now, the only option we are considering is getting the her IDs scanned to her so that she can print and take them along for the test.

Please, I need your candid advise.

Please, my wife missed a call from Canada High Commission in Lagos. She called back, but the call entered voice mail. There is no update in her mail, no sms but we have not been able to link her application online. She applied for SOWP on 9th May.

In my opinion, Canada and the US are great countries. One of the differences you might want to consider before you immigrate to any of the countries however is the prospect of becoming a citizen. It is way much easier to become a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada than America, without marrying a citizen. Discrimination against immigrants in Canada is much lower, as it is now,Canada is welcoming immigrants as the US is sending immigrants away.

However, based on what this thread is all about, we try to provide information that an help members achieve their aim of successful application for spousal open work permit to Canada, I don't think it is out of order to give some pieces of advise based on the info you provided.
Canada is one of the best countries in the world you can migrate to; the economy is great, the people are friendly. I don't have accurate information about other countries, so I will not comment. With your PhD, I think you can try the express entry to Canada. There is a forum for express entry to Canada on nairaland, they will give you more info about how to apply. I know other members of this thread can provide information about other countries.
Canada gives fantastic scholarship for PhD to international students and success rate for study permit approval for PhD students is high. If you are considering applying for another PhD to Canada, the prospects of getting a scholarship and visa is high if you are admitted. But I don't think you need to do another PhD with your work experience and a PhD. You may have enough points that will qualify you for express entry, give it a try if you eventually want to consider Canada as an option.

Yeah. My husband has his own small business. So he included his CAC registration papers and tax card. We also dratfed a sort of job description listing his duties as the CEO. We did that to take place of letter of introduction from office, kind of introducing himself as Ceo.
He also added his resume and school degree certificates.

If you are requesting for a leave of absence from your workplace, it will not be wise to state that it is for a work permit in another country. I think it is wiser to state that you want to live with your husband/wife for a specific period of time while he/she runs an academic program.
You need to understand your workplace before asking for a leave of absence. Some companies will never grant you a leave of absence. However, as home tie, while applying for n open work permit, it is a good option.
