Another story. I've been called fake igbo before and anyone that knows me, including on this site, is very much aware how proud igbo I am. Even emeka esogbue was turned exactly what you just described because of the constant reference to "fake igbo". Prior to getting all butt hurt about it and displaying low self esteem, he was a proud SS igbo. The people that turned him against that were infact SE igbo. We've told una to stop with that "fake igbo", "real igbo" rubbish but una no dey listen. At least ohaneze and other igbo main groups are listening hence the reason i don't care about what some random SE igbos call me or any other anioma. I've learned how to deal with una when you ppl start you call me fake, I call you fake and we will both be fake igbo. End of story. I don't take it to the heart like Emeka did.
let me tell you ...the man that believes that he is an idiot is really an idiot when people call him names ..so my dear Emeka esogbue I know him and he is the pure definition of fake Igbo...one thing the Igbo man abhors is a man that's not confidence and that is what some people from ika and ukwuani display not aniocha so we Igbo know that have you seen any Igbo call etcge fake yes

I hate that term fake but tell you people that some of them should be proud Igbo like igbuzor and Asaba

Abeg nwoke tell me another story. On this website, I've yet to witness anyone try and tell us what our ethnic group is except yoloba. I've seen more than enough threads on this website opened by yoloba trying to scream how anioma are not igbos. Even in this thread, go to the first page, the first person to try and tell OP he is not Igbo is in fact, last I checked Yoloba. Let them try and defend themselves, I got more than enough proof to back wtf I just said.
Also, yes once in a while we get that illiterate SE igbo wey open mouth call person "fake igbo". Anytime they try that rubbish, we know how to deal with them. They do it to spite us and we know it, that's why we spite them back anytime they began their palm wine induced "real igbo" superiority trash. It's a family problem but that still does not give una the right to try and tell us who we are.

And No, the yorubas are not forming anything because of whatever they hear from SE or anioma. They doing wtf they are doing because they are trying to cause disunity between us and SE. They are being vindictive and evil. Simple. Prior to they started their rubbish, how many igbo, be it SE or SS, have you ever witness try and tell any yoloba whose ancestors claim they descended from benin or even Sudan that they are not yoruba. How many did you witness mock illorin like we witness now a days? How many shun it to their face whenever egun, etc disclaim them? that's because noone is that devilish they try to create problem between brothers or try to turn one set of brothers against brother just because a tiny minority.
do you know who the se call fake Igbo they r those that speak Igbo bear Igbo name and culture yet deny been Igbo..they as called fake Igbo or efulefu.... pure igbo be it anioma anambra rivers or imo is a proud man and proud of his heritage ...but when I see somebody that bear and speak Igbo and say he ain't Igbo we term him efulefu or fake Igbo

I have reading Nairaland topics since 2014 as a "guest" and i just decided to join fully as a member.(i love barcanista posts)

I am from Ogwashi-Uku, in Aniocha South LGA, Delta State.
One of the key things that I want to contribute is Anioma and the Igbo question.
How can a reasonable person say that We are Not Igbos? I noticed some "outsiders" making these Blasphemous statement. What a Funny World.
ANIOMAS is part of the IGBO Nation and We are Proudly IGBOS with the Onitcha people as our ancestral brothers.
The past President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo is our Son, why will anyone question our Igboness? Our Governor from Ika is Ifeanyi by name and wears a Red Igbo Cap always, We have an Eze. We speak Igbo language most of the time and we eat Igbo foods because We are Igbos.
Lets throw away Tribalism and Love ourselves.. Lets channel all the hate I have read here into something Productive.

There is absolutely nothing special about this. The Japanese did it, the Vietnamese did it, the southern states of America did it, the Germans did it. Most people or nations who are defeated at war pull together and find the extra strength when confronted with survival. The Igbos had to survive and the Yorubas opened the enabling environment to do so. The Yorubas can destroy the Igbos in less than 1 day if necessary. All your livelihood and assets are trapped in Yorubaland.
and you think Igbo will be the sitting duck and leave without a fight....if Igbo can hold Nigeria as a country with all the tribe fighting them apart fromross river tribes and with Nigeria international assistance the casuality was heavey and everybody got tired so fighting only Yoruba to save gaurd their property will never be an issue ask the edos ask the Yoruba areas of ore how Biafra soilder came
so bring it on....the most interesting thing is that the battle ground will be west

You are daftness is tending towards a legendary status.

Awolowo changed the currency from Nigerian Pound to Naira. Fact. How does that put anyone at disadvantage, in as much as you have genuine Nigerian Pound?

Or you were expecting us to recognise your Biafra Pounds and convert it to Naira for you? How stup1d can you be? Who says you could not have decided to print 1million Biafra pounds each for your citizens? Your Biafra Pound was not recognised even in countries that were your allies - Gabon and Ivory Coast, how much more Naija?

If I say you are dumbo, it will be an other statement. Yorubaland is not igboland that never had towns. our houses with brown roofs are not a product of indigenisation but an history of evolution of people that have been building empires and kingdoms from time immemorial.

Who stooped Ibos from indigenising the companies on their soil? Sorry you never had any!!! Therefore you wanted to profit where you never invested. Ole.

To answer your daft question, yorubas are not like y1bos they could not evolve enough to build kingdoms and empires. We have built our settlements for nothing less than 500years and we do not demolish them, to protect our heritage and history. The houses built in 1900 and 2000 were built next to those UN World Heritage buildings and up till date. Therefore we have a complete history of our ancestors and several generations. The buildings of now are writing the history of this generation for generations to come.

That is what Igbos can never have the luxury of because they do not have the land, their land is a land of red mud and gully eroded.
I still get am before mentality ..where are the kingdoms is it Ibadan or ilorin I don't see kingdoms but hamlets here

can you show us the kingdoms in the league of British empire

hmmmm..well the igbos/south-east are the 2nd most succesful people in nigeria after the yorubas... the ibos control trade (retail/distribution) of goods in nigeria and they are entrenched in the banking sector as well.. but the yorubas owns most of the indigenous manufacturing/industries and are the main stay of the oil/gas sector of nigeria..the yorubas also lead in education investments as well... the south-west is home to more industrial production/output than the rest of NIGERIA (remaining 5 regions).. the igbos have caught up to the yorubas in almost all sectors and human endeavor BUT the yorubas are more RESOURCEFUL overtime..
we can argue till 2moro but in all possible index of comparison be it EDUCATION/REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT/ENTERTAINMENT/POLITICS/INDUSTRY /CULTURE AND INFLUENCE within and outside nigeria...then the YORUBAS wins in most...

Below are the list of Banks Chairmen and the region they hail from. This should put an end to the fact that the South East are not the most prosperous region in Nigeria.

Honestly there are many Igbos with outstanding talent backed with excellent achievement that the Nigerian state will forever be proud of...however other tribes are equally blessed with exceptional individuals, especially the Yorubas.

Igbos supporting Biafra have been promoting ethnic superiority, distorting history and falsifying the present. They have told us all manners of lies that we need to start debunking many of them with facts, because
Future historians may depend on the Internet for facts.

Isuata:
wow @tonychristopher

i liked this piece alot, ofcos you will nitice from my moniker that iam Yoruba but i love the piece and would like to contribute my thoughts to it. i especially like it becos i have always wondered why on NL theres alot of anomosity between the Yorubas and Igbos. I have always believed the two tribes were economically compatible until i resumed NL to see that its not so.

SUMMARY OF YOUR POST

in one swoop, i would like to think what you explained in detail here is that AWO [the yoruba] did an ITALIAN JOB/OCEAN 14 type of heist that raped Nigeria economically and ofcos the Igbo just out of a war (civil war) felt it more, this was hatched and executed by AWO who was a Pro- Western regionalist at the time to economically empower the western region people, he raped the British inclusive who wrecked colonialism on us and as most Biafran proponents would say-created this zoo contraption we call Nigeria. This is the source of Yoruba economic dominance in summary

My contribution

First of, i think your assertions (since you started by saying "story goes"wink are wrong about the Igbo's domination of wealth in Nigeria at the time before the war- i dont have my Time subscription i could have sent you a link to the Time report of Wealthiest Africans at the time (i wont gloat here but facts show that there were sw's in the list) Here's a publication that details the story: http://businessdayonline.com/2014/03/wealthy-nigerians/#.VcyCkbKqqko [img][/img]
theres also a chart they drew up to represent the wealthy ones in 1965 and 2014 (a comparison of sort). You would see the list in comparison has not really changed except for the North and SS entrants into the list- What do you make of this?

Please note that iam by no means trying to incite any form of tribal supremacy- just representing facts (i would be happy if you have better references as i am more than ever before interested in the Nigerian dynamics)

Here's the thing, i think you need to try and understand the situation and tempraments at that time you refer to in your post, if roles were switched what do you think Ojukwu or whoever the SE leader was- would have done? These regionalists who were all fighting for their regions and people. what you tern as a heist is the same thing that has happened in the western worlds and the resultant effects of wars (civil wars and world wars alike).

The INDIGENIZATION Policy you see as an evil, some economists see as the launching of the Nigerian economy - if you would be truthful and factual, if not for our greedy elites and leaders (who cuts accross all the major tribes and regions in Nigeria) its a policy all great economies adopt- ofcos it came at a time the SE bore the brunt more- its war and sentiments are not the preserve of leaders during and after war check out this book in ur free time (THE NIGERIAN INDIGENIZATION POLICY: NATIONALISM OR PRAGMATISM?
Afr Aff (Lond) (1983) 82 (327): 241-266). the question i keep asking is how come the claim that SW's 'heisted' all these foreign companies through the nationalization policy- what happened to the Northerners, Mid-westerners (assuming that SE ddnt have anything to bargain with)?
Besides you also know this was a country out of a civil war and regionalism was still entrenched (hell even till now regionalism the bane of the restructuirng the SNC is supposed to address) SW's took advantage of the policy and bought what they could buy- same happened in the soviet union, the USA also do it in-directly; besides what did you think would happen, companies shares being sold in the SW would at that time give preference to SW's (even now, in Lagos unknown t most pple who make noise on Nl, the Lagos govt unofficially sell lands based on tribe even amongst Yorubas- i rem some situation some years back where i cldnt get some choice areas becos i was from IKD and not central Lagos- thats between us Yorubas oh in this century, so imagine what would have happened at that time and i dare say- it was the same accross the country not just Lagos and SW)
Besides, on the surface Awolowo was not reported as the architect of the policy http://www.nai.uu.se/ecas-4/panels/61-80/panel-68/Chibuike-U-Uche-Full-paper.pdf
These guys were credited with being the architects - Allison Ayida (Finance), Phillip Asiodu (Mines and Power) and Ime Ebong (Economic
Development)
I dont think you can blame AWo (if your conspiracy theory is true) of self preservation of wealth for he's people its the hallmark of good leaders (leadership is not a holy position) 'to be a good leader you must be like the fox and the lion'-Niccolo Machiavelli. Somehow i think this history should guide the way this generation thread business lines in Nigeria but you will agree with me that it hasnt really. You know, i wouldnt call it a deliberate thing by some conspiracy but an insensitive oversight by Nigeria who did not consider the SE economical pockets during the nationalization.

Dont have so much time......but i like this side of the history and i even like your call of conspiracy cos i cant control perception of things, hence the freedom of thought and speech we all have.

But i salute the Igbo spirit to rise and become a force in the present day Nigeria, irrespective of our political and economic positions- i give kudo to the people[b] which is why i try as much as possible to learn their language.

i wish above all else that there is a new type of Nigerian youth who takes and use the mistakes of our history to correct, pacify and develop the country to a better clime

[b]our leaders (who are from SE SW SS NW NC NE) are the ones taking us for a ride, they are the evils we should collectively and systematically channel our rage towards

Aro roots of Ikwere identity crises

In 1991, Babangida regime created new states without creating Igweocha or Port-Harcourt as requested by Igbo people of Rivers State, led by Senators Obi Wali and Francis Ellah. A short while later, I accompanied Mazi Philip Nkwocha, a friend of Obi Wali’s, to visit him at his home in Umuigbo. As Senator Wali saw us enter his house, he shouted at his friend “Phil, what happened?” His friend retorted, in surprise, “Obi about what?” “How come you people asked for Igbo States without including Port-Harcourt?” Wali further asked his perplexed friend. At this point I had to speak up to minimize the confusion. I knew something they both didn’t know.

In 1991 Emeka Omeruah, from Imo State (later Abia), was Military Governor of Enugu State, while Anthony Ogugua, from Anambra (later Enugu) was in Imo State. As the agitation for states heated, these two Governors, quietly, set up a committee to harmonious Igbo demand for States. I was a committee member.

Four states were identified; Abia, Anioma, Enugu and Port-Harcourt. Outreach groups were constituted to reach out to the Igbo in the different states. But events were moving so rapidly that the group decided to go with only demands that would not elicit identity confusion. Port-Harcourt was dropped, for this reason, for the Igbo there to do the best they could under the circumstance.

Hearing this Senator Wali sat still for a long while, then said “Phil, our gamble about identity has failed! You will buy me three traditional Igbo dresses.

I will attend this year’s Ahiajoku Lecture, and seek to deliver that of next year”. He never made it! He was assassinated a short while later, his friends believed, for his continued Port-Harcourt State creation agitation. When I read later that Dr Wali’s son, Ihunwo, was one of the leaders of the Congress for the Liberation of Ikwerre People, COLIP; an ‘Ikwerre-back-to-Igbo-fold’ youth movement, whose mission is to wean Ikwerre off Biafra-war propaganda, I knew where he was coming from.

An igbo adage said, o osisi n' ami mkpuru ka ana ama iche (its only a fruitful tree that normally got stoned) this the case of the igbos or rather biafrans, they are too successful, and fruitful thats why they are always stoned and remember that if nobody talks about you then you are a nobody...... If God dont give us Biafra then he is partial i must say. Chukwuokike abiama come and hear our wailing voice once again.......

It's so sad we've allowed this thread to derail from its originally good intent. But I'm not deterred. I have more confidence in the Igbos more than I do in any other tribe outside our region. They've proven their loyalty to us for the past 8 years. The last elections simply cemented my faith in them as a people.

Actually, I'm not supporting them solely because it's compulsory we must share the same nation with them. That's not necessary. Knowing fully well that the ND or whatever that means, cannot seem to succeed in its struggle for resource control, it's good judgment to have our people align with the Igbos for the good of us all.

We know the history of Pakistan and India. When the time comes, we will make clearly and unmistakable agreements with our brothers from the East. But till then, I'll given all my support to ANY movement that will weaken the stranglehold of the children of Uthman Dan Fodio on our collective wealth and destiny.

This is the purpose of this thread.

If anyone thinks I'm against the Igbos, those persons are grievously mistaken. They're the most reliable brothers I have.
