PoliticsJonathan Will Win By 75% by Toonice(op): 1:47pm On Apr 12, 2011
With most of the results from the National Assembly elections already confirmed, the Presidency was in an upbeat mood on Monday ahead of next Saturday’s presidential poll, projecting that President Goodluck Jonathan would win by 75 per cent of the votes.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Research and Documentation, Mr. Oronto Douglas, said the voting pattern observed in the National Assembly polls suggested 75 per cent of the total votes cast in the forthcoming presidential election would go to Jonathan.

Douglas, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, noted that there were no fears that Jonathan could lose the election.

Jonathan’s major challengers in the presidential election are the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Congress for Progressive Change flagbearer, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau of the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

Appraising the voting pattern, especially the seats won by the PDP, ACN, CPC and ANPP, Douglas said Nigerians would vote en-masse for Jonathan on Saturday, April 16.

“The result of the National Assembly elections is indicative of the momentum and direction of how Nigerians will vote on Saturday.

“I believe that 75 per cent of the votes will go to Dr. Jonathan.

“My optimism stems from the fact that Nigerians have grown to know this gentleman president, who says what he believes and does what he says.

“President Jonathan will win by 75 per cent of the votes cast on Saturday”, Douglas said.

The presidential also noted that “free and fair” conduct of the National Assembly poll had also improved Jonathan’s standing with Nigerians.

“He (Jonathan) is a man who does what he says and keeps his promises. He promised Nigerians free and fair elections and he is delivering. He is delivering ‘one-man-one-vote’.He promised energy security, he is delivering it,” he said.

Imagine this. Masked armed robbers broke into a home. After subjecting the entire household to the horror of violence and taking everything of value, they raped the two female children of the house.

One of the two eventually became psychotic as a result of the trauma and eventually died. The other became pregnant and later gave birth to a baby boy. She promised herself she would never forgive the person or persons who inflicted such pain on the family. So did her parents.

A few years down the road, one of the robbers met the lady with the child in church and not being able to recognise themselves, they started dating. As the friendship progressed, she had told him about her family’s experience in the hands of armed robbers and the emotional toll to the family. When it looked as if the affair was becoming serious, she invited him home to meet her parents. He recognised the house but did not betray his emotions. Only that he sweated unusually profusely. They eventually got married. A few months later, the truth came out in a casual discussion. Meanwhile she was already heavily pregnant for him! He wept profusely as he begged the family for forgiveness claiming that he had become born again and old things had passed away. What would you do if you were a member of that family?.

Nairaland GeneralHow Cele Pastor Duped Me – Victim by Toonice(op): 4:09pm On Apr 05, 2011
A London-based architect, Mrs Oladele Oni, on Monday, informed a Lagos High Court in Ikeja how a prophet of Celestial Church of Christ, Israel Ogundipe, allegedly defrauded her of over N17m.

The Lagos State Government is prosecuting Ogundipe before Justice Olabisi Akinlade on an alleged six-count charge of forgery and obtaining money through false pretence.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, Oni told the court that she entrusted the accused with her money to procure some landed property on her behalf because she thought he was a “good pastor”.

In her evidence –in –chief, Oni told the court that the accused had attempted to blackmail her into forfeiting all her landed property in his custody.

The witness, who claimed to have first met the accused in 2002 during her visit to Nigeria, testified that, “the accused said something about my husband and that I should not have anything jointly with him because he was having an affair behind my back.”

Oni further informed the court that her step-sister took her to the prophet for spiritual help.

She also said, “He (the accused) gave me a liquid to drink and I started vomiting. I was asked to sit down and he lighted a candle and said I should be there until the candle goes off.”

She further claimed that she was later taken by the prophet in company of her step-sister and cousin to a bush in Sango-Ota Area of Ogun State where she was allegedly bathed with some concoction.

She alleged that she started having financial dealing with him after she returned to London, alleging that Ogundipe called her and advised her to invest in landed property in Lagos which she agreed to after consultations with some people.

The witness also testified that she sent money to the accused in five tranches of N900, 000, N2.5m, N8.5m, N2.7m and £12,000 between 2002 and 2005 to purchase the property on her behalf.

She alleged that after collecting the money, the prophet converted some of the said property for his personal use and refused to refund the money for the others.

She said, “When I confronted him about this, he started threatening my life and blackmailing me. He was saying that I have a son for him which was an embarrassment.”

The matter has been adjourned till April 8.
