Her not apologising or saying 'thank you' is because she doesn't want to come across soo helpless and needy, or feeling as if she owes you something, as soon as she lets her guards down by apologising and saying thank you, she is likely to believe that you will then think you have control over her. Hence the point her mum has been making to her.
