Perfectly well said . 👏 MichaelUde: Rent money is dead money for those wey get money for deposit and the residence status to buy house. Given current prices and all the wahala, that excludes many people, even those wey be native Brits.
For many people wey just move here carrying their 3 pikins at the age of 45, buying a house fit no work for them yet because before you stabilise it might take a while and saving a deposit of 25% no be easy thing depending on how much you earn and where you dey plan buy house.
Quite a lot of these landlords bought these houses as ex-council houses in the 80s. Interest rates were indeed very high then, up to 15%, but the houses themselves were very cheap, such that almost everyone could afford to buy a house on one salary, with the man working and the woman raising the children, like it used to be in Naija. Now these days, even with most families having two incomes, house prices are so high that to see deposit na war.
Like everything else in life, everybody path go dey different. The amount of squeezing oneself and tightening belt beyond all the holes wey malam fit put inside the leather is a whole lot unless you dey somewhere were prices are low-ish, but those places are usually not where the jobs are. If you wan buy house for Jigawa, price cheap, but work no dey there. If you wan buy house for Lagos, price no be here, but na there work dey and you fit grow your career.
Buying houses outside areas commutable to such places also ties you down. If you buy house for Jigawa, live there for 1 years, come see better work for Abuja, how you wan go take am? You can only rent out a house on a residential mortgage for a limited period.
Demonising landlords is not helpful. Landlords too na human beings, no be all of them dey exploit. Some are paying interest only mortgages (which is why that money might be low), some too worked their arses off to save deposits and buy houses, so all na their own profit too. I own property in Nigeria. I buy the land for cash after saving from my pay, and took a loan from my bank to add to the money to build the house, which I built over time as salary worker wey I be. With all the yawa wey dey Naija, some of my tenants asked for consideration, come dey pay me rent in instalments sotay I fit see rent in 6 or 7 pieces. I evicted no one, still dey service my loan dey go. Some landlords are lousy, some are not.
And looking at the money spent on housing as a loss no be the best way to look at things. Person get to spend money on services, so you go spend money on transport, that one na money for Lothian Buses or ScotRail pocket, and e don go. You spend money on food, you go shit am out, and e don go too. As a new immigrant without a 25% deposit or Tier 2 visa and a willing lender, you go spend money on housing and that one too na service and that one too go go as well. It is what it is. Overthinking all that one no worth am.
If you get ability to save for a deposit and can afford a house, with all the stress testing of income and everything, go for it. If you cant, your rent money is definitely not dead money, it is paying for your shelter, which is one of the neccessities of life, like food, transport, healthcare, all intangible services wey no dey leave you with a physical asset after delivery. |

Good evening house,
Please I need advice and assistance as regards this issue on behalf of my sister. My sister applied for the Uk student visa after 2weeks of enrolling for Biometrics , She was invited for an interview after the interview she was sent a follow-up email requesting for additional documents as regards her finances.
The issue is she has a spouse that lives in the Uk on a permanent visa which she also mentioned in her application. Her spouse made a deposit towards her tuition fee and also fund her account for the POF . But as you know only the parent can stand as a sponsor that's why the spouse was not declared as the main sponsor.
She already stated in her application that our mother will be her sponsor, she included her birth certificate that carry our Mother's name and a written letter as well from our mother.
Please house kindly advise on the best way to resolve this issue because she was given 10 days to submit the evidences. I attached a copy below of the email sent to her after the interview. Thank you all for all what you have been doing on this forum.🤲

Hi there,
I use this App below & passed it for the first attempt easily within 10 minute's in the test centre. You can also Google "lifeintheuktest" 3rd edition it helps a lot as well.
Make sure you study hard for the test & try to memorise the dates of the events that occur in Britain as much as you can. I wish you all the best.

lightnlife: I'll try and break it down.
1. Withdraw dollar from your USD account in Nigeria.
2. Enter a bureau de change (Aboki) shop. Tell him you want to change Dollar to Naira. You should check online to be sure of the current exchange rate, so you can get a fair rate.
3. Aboki will pay the equivalent Naira of the Dollar you're giving him to your Nigerian Naira account. Confirm the payment on your mobile app before you leave Aboki.
4. Let the money be resting in your Nigerian Naira account then carry your bag dey come UK.
5. When you reach UK, open a Lemonade account. They'll give you a Pound and Naira account for free on the Lemonade app.
6. Now transfer the resting Naira from your Nigerian account to the new Lemonade Naira account.
7. On Lemonade app, there's an option to convert that Naira you've just transferred to Pound.
Now you've converted your Naira to Pounds.
It sounds like a long process, but it easy. Thank you I do appreciate your help. Sorry I was stuck at the process on Lemonade App when I wanted to Add funds it redirected me to a Paga bank account with my details and an account number together with it. Is it how it works that I have to Add fund through the Paga bank ? Sorry for being a pain I just want to be sure I am doing the right thing . Thank you |

lightnlife: Your best bet is to convert your USD to Naira in Nigeria, save it in your Naira account then when you arrive in the UK you can convert your Naira (Lemonade, Sendwave) to GBP.
Another option: When you come, you can withdraw GBP at the ATM with your USD debit card. Put into consideration the exchange rate and transaction fee.
Wise discontinued its card and inflow services to Nigeria. Nigerian banks aren't approving USD to GBP transactions on Sendwave.
If you already have a GBP account, you can do direct bank conversions and transfers to a GBP account over the counter.
In all you do, don't bring raw USD to the UK. The exchange isn't usually good. But did he have to open lemonade account when he arrived in Britain or open it while in Nigeria ? How do you convert naira on Lemonade app because I have a Lemonade account here in the Uk , A friend is coming over with some Naira in his account hoping to transfer it into my account when he arrives. I'm yet to figure out how the conversion/ transfer thing is going to work . Please can someone break it down into pieces how it works because I have never done this sort of transaction before. Thanks |

You can always write a cover letter to explain that your parents are sponsoring you and they decided to transfer the money at one go. I know somebody that the brother transfer about #18 million into his account at a go and got the Visa It's simply because the brother can't stand as the sponsored as you know only the parents can so the only option is for the brother to transfer the money. There's nothing wrong in having a huge amount transfer to your account as long as the money is for the purpose claim. CEZEJUST: Yes what you said is correct.
Now in your account if a bulk money is found in the statement, you're getting denier especially when you said you're working and they know your kind of work can't pay you that kind of money at once, in some cases they will ask you to explain the source and what the person who sent the money does for a living.
I've seen different documents about people who got denied UK visa because of funds. Both Nigerians Indians and Pakistani...
Now if you are among the people you mentioned and you just have 10m in your account and you print blank statement... Only 10m inflow showed chances of being denied is 99% |

It's a complete waste of time going back and forth with him It's not worth your time . justwise: Obviously you did not read anywhere in all my posts where I asked anyone for money or promised anyone visa. Show me just a single post to support your claim And I will refund the person 100% and deactivate my account. I give you 24hrs to do this. |

Clear & adequate comment so far. justwise: That is what you should worry about because your ex husband can not take the kids to the UK without your written consent and document to show that he has the sole custody of those kids.
Since you did not give your consent and the custody case is ongoing then your ex hubby most likely forged those documents for visa application. If that is the case then he is in real hot mess and plays into your hand.
Call him to ask those questions before contact the embassy |

Hi @ Anyke, I hope you're keeping well, Do you still reside in Czech Republic. Just got Czech Visa I will be coming to Prague early September for holiday can I connect with you? . Thank you. 3. 2 recent passport size photographs with white or blue background.

Baba Maximum Respect for you . You have said it all.. MadeMen4Life: Shalewa T…. Call your husband 1:2:1 prolly in the middle of the night and ask him why he used his cousin as the NOK and not YOU, he might have some explanations to make. Don’t conclude yet, and don’t let this online in-law statements enter your head so you won’t react negatively in your home… When things go south, you won’t even see the hair strand of none of them… Don’t always be quick to bring your marital discomfort online, those people you are looking at are having one or two discomfort at home too, but you won’t see them wash their dirty linen outside… ALWAYS TALK TO UOUR PARTNER FIRST, ASK and Don’t Conclude.. |

Guy you funny die unlike the Mumu wey dey fool himself everytime for this thread Lol .. MichaelUde: Ah ah. We still dey on top this matter? It's time to close it, abeg una, but to clarify, madam (and for others) PayPal 3 in 1, and Klarna and all the rest of the Buy Now Pay Later schemes (BNPL) are a form of credit being given to you.
The HRGuy was right when he said that when you use 3 in 1 at checkout, you are applying for credit. It's usually a soft search they carry out and its automated, without their having to ask you to fill form or provide info, so many people feel say its different from a standard credit application, but all na the same thing. The FCA is trying to clamp down on these lenders, because they are saying that the affordability checks are not as stringent as for other credit providers, and so on, but make una note say all na credit. You have your item,Curry's has its money and you owe PayPal.
Oya, make una bring another topic o. Wey the person wey wan claim asylum, come forward, please. |
