shiwex: Nothing wrong with this. This was also debated in the house of parliament London some years ago and laws were passed to regulate the business. This is a welcome idea as it saves the government money on the long run and reduces impact of Cancer. Nothing wrong with them regulating the trade. Its what any sane society will do. Government do not have to bear the cost of treating people who use skin lightening products when they end up with Cancer. Prevention is better than cure. The only sensible comment on this thread. |

showafrica: My brother look at it from another angle. US prison is better than 70% Nigerian homes. Also note that, the way Nigeria is going, 80% will be broke from now till next 10yrs. The kind insecurity in Nigeria, Ivintus is likely to be safe than an average Nigerian roaming the streets. You think 10yrs is much, its simply Buhari tenure plus Atiku or Tinubu tenure. My brother, the only thing Ivintus will miss is steady straffing and some freedom but he is better than an average Nigerian. Why not commit a crime against a US institution so you can end up in their 'safe' prisons? A trial will surely convince you. Mschew. |

Hedonini: Very likely. Max 4 or 5 actual years. Many people gloating and showcasing useless schadenfreude here would still be languishing in poverty, while many others may not even be alive by then.
He's a good kid. God's mercy be upon him. At least they are not stealing other people's sweat and languishing in stolen wealth. No value system any more in this country, what a shame. Just look at how some of you are trying to turn the story and make the criminal look like a victim when in reality he was the one feeding fat off other people's money. |

masterP042: Obinwanne is a wise guy, although making money illegally, he fronted a legit and clean company. Was able to launder his image too, to be able to get to Forbes and even give lectures to havard students. To him yahoo was just a way to create capital and funds to pursue and acheive his multi billion dreams which a devilish country like Nigeria have already dashed. He was also wise enough to coperate with the feds to aid investigations, and that fast tracked his trials and sentencing. As for hushpuppy, he's gone and gone forever, upon all his money, no visible investment in Nigeria or anywhere to front his money. Obinwanne targeted multi billion caterpillar company, but hushpuppy decided to divert ventilator funds at the beginning of a pandemic. And having known he's been caught, instead of pleading guilty and cooperating he was busy hiring expensive lawyers and claiming not guilty. Fbi will transfer his case to a judge whose spouse, child or close family was killed by covid 19, his trial will still be extended for him to spend his remaining money on lawyers, he'll be finally sentenced, and trust me, upon his release he'll be injected with moronic injection. Americans will make him a dimwit if he's ever released. Stop trying to justify evil, yahoo is STEALING, there are victims. He stole other people's hard earned money. There is no difference whatsoever between invictus and hushpuppy, they are both THIEVES. |

papilo700: Do you know how Scammers operate? As soon as you are scammed the scammer disappears into thin air. The first thing they do is conceal their identity to make it difficult(if not impossible) to trace them. Which scammer will reveal his real identity or offer to make a refund?
All I see there is business gone wrong. I have witnessed this many times in real life. You will just start accusing people without waiting to find out what happened on the other end, you don't even want to listen. Even my close friend that is into data business was a victim.
The guy is just owing him money and he has told him to calm down, he should wait for the guy to pay him his complete money or go to court. Even the court may grant several years to settle his debts (depending on his financial status.
The last time I checked owing people money is not a criminal offense because the guy is ready to settle his debt. He should wait for his money. Don't worry, someone else will hold a large amount of your money for YEARS and you will gladly wait for it. Nonsense. |

Besides we need to hear from the accused, he should tell us his own side of the story before we conclude. Hear his own side of the story after holding someone's money for 5 months? Smh. If you don't do something to warrant being called a scammer, you won't be called one. Simple. |

nextstep: To wit: an American or British WTO DG - inspite of the outward appearance of being neutral - would actually push American and British interests in negotiation and arbitration, frequently conferring with their president/prime minister. The question of "what it means for us" realizes that Dr. Iweala's would be highly unlikely to push Nigerian (or African interests for that matter), so while this is certainly historic, it doesn't change anything on ground. You just contradicted yourself in the same sentence, haha. Anyway, carry on. |

Petyprince: It's you who don't know. Do u think it's every Nation that is a member of WTO? WTO is just an organisation like WHO. Since your Nigeria has been a member of UN what benefits do UN offer Nigerians??. Nigeria is a member of the WTO, and so Nigerian (and other African) producers and consumers can benefit from better trade rules. Stop proving point on something you don't know - 164 countries are member states of the WTO. |
Politics › Re: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Appointed WTO Director-General, Term Starts 1st March 2021 by tot(f): 4:41pm On Feb 15, 2021 |
Petyprince: That doesn't, her post has no benefits to Nigeria as a country. Say you don't KNOW. I watched the live Trade conference months back where they were discussing the gaps a lot of african countries need to close in terms of trade to get better terms and conditions and how having someone from the continent could help address that. Global rules of trade provide assurance and stability. Consumers and producers know they can enjoy secure supplies and greater choice of the finished products, components, raw materials and services they use. Producers and exporters know foreign markets will remain open to them. https://www.wto.org/english/thewto_e/whatis_e/inbrief_e/inbr_e.htm |

Focusmind: Nawao! But even shell and other oil companies do not pay same across countries. People in Aberdeen receives something different from Nigeria. A guy that was once in Norway, working for Statoil Hydro of Norway put in transfer to come to Nigeria. His pay in Nigeria is still good but lower than the pay in Norway. So, countries peculiarities are also considered in staff emoluments for multinationals.
Someone is also with Reckitt benkiser in Nigeria but when he went to Greece on transfer, his pay in Greece was higher than in Nigeria. That is mainly because of country tax regulations and local market level salaries, not necessarily minimum pay like someone else mentioned. For example, those in London do not earn the same as those in a different city in the UK, for the same company. |
