aljharem2:

So it was APC lead government that stopped ebola ?

Are you in Nigeria at all ?

Certainly GEJ cannot take credit for it because it was Nigerians and not Fashola or GEJ that stopped Ebola.

Even conductor dey carry sanitizers, do you think that is Fashola's doing ?
And when did Fashola ever take credit for stopping the spread of Ebola? He only gave credit to the doctors, nurses, virologists, attendants and every volunteer involved.

Jonathan is trying very hard to reap where he did not sow. What a shame. Since there is nothing to support his interest, he is asking for neutrality as if Ebola just walked away on its own.

This Clueless Leadership must be voted out.
Don't mind the clueless one. He told us to be wary of large gatherings yet TAN organized a big rally in Rivers State the same week a man died of Ebola over there.

it does BUT you make it sound like we held a gun to FGs head for an increment in salary.
besides I hope you know the correction was also done for johesu so in effect they will get their arrears too.
We hope so ooooo..Forget arrears, let them implement it first.

that was not a salary increment but a CORRECTION of the con mess scale.
the FG has been paying with a wrong scale.
please get it clear!
It all boils down to the same thing.
Skipping from one level to a higher one automatically increases your salary abi?.

Exactly! But are teachers paid well? NO!infact, they are the lowest paid civil servants..Almost everyone is underpaid in Nigeria..
Health / Re: Fg Paid Doctors New Salary! by toysleek(f): 11:37am On Aug 24, 2014
Jummymine: its not like that. the johesu caused it. if you pressure the govt to make your salary the doctors', then you might as well increase the doctors!Actually, in the well run private hospitals, consultants, fresh ones earn about 700 to 800, as my friends now do. Those wthat run their own setup earn up to a million average.
but to stop all this nonsense, the govt should privatize the whole system, while strenghtening health insurance. that is the long term solution.
I don't think anyone in the health sector has ever agitated for Doc's salary..For God's sake,it takes a Bsc graduate who starts from conhess 7, 9yrs(3promotions) to get to the entry level of a fresh Doc(Conmess 2 which is equivalent to conhess 11 in fed hosps), now they want it extended to 12yrs(4promotions)by skipping Conmess 2..
They deserve higher pay,but they should not poke their noses(as they usually do) whenever govt is ready to negotiate with JOHESU for salary increment too.

chuksbogus: I can authoritatively tell you all that this is a big ,fat ,wide lie.All the increments both on COMESS AND CONHESS have not been implemented.Everything is on hold till the yayale Ahmed committee bring out their recomendations
The docs in my hospital were paid 2months arrears yesterday and each consultant got 700k for 2mnths, Senior reg got about 400+..but the Regs were sidelined.it will be fully implemented in January nxt yr.

Judah1986:

Residency has been suspended in all hospitals be it state or federal government. Wherever there is residency is affected. I'm a registrar and I boldly declare that consultants do not lazy around. After they attend clinic, surgery and consultant ward rounds (which entails 3 out of 5 working days), is that lazying around? They were once in my shoes, they have suffered and have paid their dues therefore they should only be disturbed for cases that are beyond us....hence the title CONSULTANT
From all the news i've heard, it has only been suspended in federal hospitals, hence the termination of only federal resident doctors... I stand to be corrected.
Health / Re: NMA Dares Jonathan - Asks Resident Doctors To Reject Sack Letters by toysleek(f): 3:32pm On Aug 16, 2014
Judah1986: The remaining 2 days are registrars and senior registrars ward rounds. As for call duty, the 2006 guidelines of the Royal College of Obstetricians and gynaecologists does not require consultants to always be on ground. Let's not forget that they give lectures and training to medical students. They also have clinical meetings with the residents every morning to review the previous day's activities. SO THEY DO NOT LAZY AROUND
I have friends that didnt see their consultants due to their non availability all through their period of pregnancy (booking till delivery)..they are most times in their private hospitals..What do you call that?

ur tone shows u don't understand what residency training is all about and u obviously don't know how teaching hospitals work, so u think MOs no matter their years of experience can do the work of a senior registrar or even a registrar in fields like ENT or Anaesthesia or neurosurgery or plastic surgery, or do u think consultants can run the teaching hospitals and other federal hospitals alone without their residents that do the hard work, no one is arguing the permanent staff status of residents here u know, they obviously aren't permanent staff
I'm a social worker in a FMC, so i'm familiar with all these...At least for now, consultants in federal hospitals will stop lazying around and do the real work they are paid for..Residency has not been suspended in state teaching hospitals right?
Health / Re: NMA Dares Jonathan - Asks Resident Doctors To Reject Sack Letters by toysleek(f): 6:47am On Aug 16, 2014
dalhat14: So the NMA goes on strike and the government sacks resident doctors, why not sack all the NMA members since residents are only a section of the NMA, and what makes the government think NMA would call off its strike after sacking some of her members. All doctors in Nigeria are members of the NMA so who would restore the services in the hospitals as the government is demanding.
Senseless government
Resident doctors are temporary staff, and yet,the govt pays their school fees throughout their period of training(usually 6yrs),and with that they still collect huge salaries even more than the MO's(cos they dont contribute pension)..Consultants, MO's are permanent staff and cant be sacked anyhow...A consultant collecting btw #500k-800k monthly will not want to lose his/her job fighting for a resident,if a 'NO WORK, NO PAY' is forced on them..So they can either continue their residency in state teaching hospitals or wait till Fg calls them back.

phantomm: you can see you really don't know what's going on. the radiographer ONLY images the patient. by virtue of their training they CANT interprete results. any that does us committing an illegality. the lab scientist tests samples and concludes that he found A,B& C in a certain blood sample and that A is sensitive to nitrofurantoin,B is sensitive to ciprofloxacin and C is sensitive to nystatin. left to the lab guy he will give those drugs to cure the patient BUT the doctor by virtue of his training matches the lab result to the history he got from the patient and his examination of the patient. if the doctor feels the patient has disease X and from what he learnt in school, disease X does not occur with A,B & C in blood, he will ask for a repeat lab $
test.the doctor is trained to tie up many things.
You just confirmed what i wrote.. The lab scientist can interprete the results of tests done..What to do with the results, is now left to you.

Drphemmy4u: After d usual 6yrs (plus Xyears) in medical school,1year internship and 1year NYSC,a Doctor could proceed on post graduate studies by writing primaries depending on d specialty he wants to go into.this could be laboratory medicine(histopathology, microbiology, chemical pathology, haematology),Radiology etc.this involves passing 3 exams.Candidates pay between 100-150k per exam.Doctors could write the exams many times before passing and can even get released from residency in a teaching hospital if he fails to progress within a set time period.it takes 6-12yrs depending on your speed(plus research work),thus becoming a consultant in that specialty(taking 14-20yrs of academic and hospital practice).NOW,a lab scientist who studied only at undergraduate level in 5yrs wants to become a consultant in that field simply because he has been using reagents and analysing samples?those who can go for masters and PhD amongst them should do so and become lecturers under the university(They lecture medical students in pathology classes too). This needless fight for supremacy should stop. The patients are at the receiving end here.
Will they just become consultants without going through years of specialized training too? Stop misinforming the public

phantomm: grin grin grin grin grin grin @ the bolded. i hope you know that radiographers are the ones who 'photograph' the patients.the radiologists who are the doctors in that department interprete the results..
in the labs ,the lab technologists do the bench work or test the samples.the onus still lies on the pathologist who is a doctor to ratify the results.
my brother these allied professionals are attaching undue importance to themselves.they are not that important.
Simply because you guys wouldn't allow them do it..how can a lab scientist/radiographer perform tests and produce result without being able to interprete them?

[quote author=Oduduwaboy]This struggle for relevance in the health sector by paramedicals in the health sector must stop in other for peace to rein.

The nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, lab technologist who now call themselves scientists, admin workers, cleaners formed a gang-up union called JOHESU ( joint health workers union ) in order to gain unmerited advantage over doctors.

Pls note that lab technologists are different from lab scientists..
Lab scientists are graduates of Medical lab Science(a 5yr para-medical course/1yr internship) and are always in the same faculty/college with people reading medicine, physio, nursing, pharmacy etc while in the university.
Meanwhile,a lab technologist(i am proud to be one) studies Science lab technology in either faculty of Science/tech in the University and they are mostly awarded Btech(although i have a Bsc). I am not qualified to work in a hospital laboratory..
I guess you Doctors know this already but you just keep calling them technicians to undermine them...
