@ Elosela: what an oratory.
So when are you Africans going to make yourselves proud of Africa? |

anonimi: Thank you for what you just said in bold above.
I'm not sure I get what you are saying there. Mind explaining? If every mixed race person gets classified as white, then the whites will identify themselves by another name. Hitler already tried it with his Aryan theories. This kind of attitude fuels white supremacists. I dont see why whites should be forced to accept what they're not comfortable with. I already pointed out the fact that its not only blacks who have white blood- other races do too. Maybe we should all just get back to calling biracials mulattos or half-castes and be done with it. being black or white is more than just skin color. There are cultural and sociological issues involved. |

DavidDylan: this is not a "polish" Obama campaign . . . neither are we ignoring his his stepfather . . . we are simply saying 3 years is not the same as over 10 years. If indeed his Asian stepfather was that important in his life Obama himself has never said so. I'm not sure you can speak on his behalf on who his real father-figure was.
I don't consider my cousins - who have both Nigerian parents but have never been to Nigeria - as Nigerian. I see them purely as American . . . whatever they achieve has nothing to do with Nigeria.
If Obama were going to jail for murder today would Africans be running to this forum to support Obama? Did you read his book at all? He clearly mentioned either in one of his books, or somewhere else, that his stepfather had heart to heart talks with him. In any case, the fact remains that you can't ignore his stepfather's role in his life. 3 years may not be 10 years, but it isnt 0 years either. The guy was there, and that's what matters. If his white grandparents had raised him for only 3 years, would you still be saying they're not important? about your cousins: what they don't hear from you about their Nigerianness, they will hear from outsiders. I'm sure you're familiar with Hero, who even though he claims his wife wants nothing to do with her Nigerian roots, still slaps the Nigerian label on her everytime he opens his mouth. You can't escape your heritage, monsieur. |

JustGood: I suppose its too difficult to see what the point is here.
I don't have a problem with Obama being black. I have a problem with people who want to conform to white standards of segregating mixed race people and trying to ignore or wish away their white background.
Tell exactly why Obama is not white and I'll use the same logic to tell you why he's not Black. My point is that he is both black and white.
I am happy that a man of African descent will occupy the white house! But that does not remove the fact that he also has white blood in him no one has ignored obama's white heritage, to the best of my knowledge. The terms black and biracial can be used interchangeably. However, like I pointed out before, blacks arent the only race who have intermarried with whites. There are millions of Africans mixed with white or Arab blood. Yet it doesnt diminish the fact that they are black Africans. What you're advocating here will lead to the extinction of the white race since every mixed race person will be considered white. Even Tuaregs consider themselves distinct from Arabs despite clearly having Arab blood. Same goes for Somalis and many others. why do some blacks want to jump the queue as if they're the only ones there? |

DavidDylan: yes. There's no point trying to claim credit for what we did not help to create.
For how long was this Asian stepfather in his life? Apparently not more than 3 years . . . i don't consider that "raising". 3 years is not the same as 0 years. You can't ignore his Asian stepfather just because you want to "polish" up Obama. His stepfather helped raise him and his experiences in Indonesia contributed to making him what he is today. That was the only father figure he knew in his formative years. and going by your logic here, my Nigerian relatives who havent lived in Nigeria, arent Nigerian? |
