thought she was from lagos and abeokuta. is she very familiar with ondo? shouldnt her husband be awarded a title as well? Like with the tinubus. |
funny thread. |
Obviously. |
Well, some things get lost in translation, thats why you ascribed that kind of meaning to the name. If you said something like that to an average yoruba person, they might think you've lost it and are just rambling. The name isnt that unusual, ifa and fa mean the same thing. Most likely the original ancestor/s bearing the name, may have been native priests or powerful spiritual leaders. However, after the abolition of the slave trade, the meaning wouldnt be given much thought per se. |
^ you're not yoruba? |
^ maybe the english speaking ones i assume. the francophones dont really sound nigerian, imo. |

perhaps ese is offended by the name? ![]() she thought the pastor is abusing white people? as per the name (separate from this ese walters blah), the pastor might not realize the oyinbo there could also be referring to christianity, not just foreign gadgets. |
the accent in the music tape sounds nigerian, so perhaps she's lived in nigeria and can already speak the language? ok, she already made an effort then, she should follow it up by learning more about her husband's culture, even if he's americana, doesnt matter. unless they want to raise the kids as fully american and no nigerian. hope no comma btw, those are getting too common these days. |
what's your own understanding of the name? one has to know that first before proceeding. |
Marriage and career are not incompatible. Women just have to set realistic expectations for themselves and understand life is not a fairytale. Men also should do the same. |
What women can do, men can do better, lord have mercy. |
They've been deporting foreigners since sept or so, i'm surprised the nigerians arent home yet. Btw are they sure they're all nigerian? |
