Culture › Re: Her Father Refuse To Return His Bride Price. by tpiadotcom: 6:51pm On Apr 15, 2015 |
allcomage: As his name indicates,he is Igbo. In Igbo culture, divorce or separation is incomplete until the bride price is returned no matter how small or big it is. No too much grammar. Emenike should not go alone,he should go with his clan people and his father-in-law will return it. There is no force marriage in Igbo culture. No Igbo family will allow emenike or his wife to get married to their son/daughter as long as the dowry is not returned, unless they marry outside Igboland. hm |

in the South South, South East, etc, seems the bride price must be returned by the ex-wife's new husband.
Refusal to do so means all children born to the woman and her new spouse, will be considered the ex husband's kids. This rule does not apply in a few parts of Abia state, according to google.
My question is, what if the original bride price was extremely high, like in the millions?
lord have mercy.
una like divorce and marriage dissolution for here sha. Is this normal or something else. |

allanphash7: That is why Yoruba is one of the best when it comes to marriage
Immediately on the spot on the day of your traditiinal wedding the bride price will be returned to u and u will be told point blank that we didnt sell our daughter to you but we give you for free i dont know if people will be asking for the yams, goats, cow, drinks etc back had something else been the case. |

I don't get it though. FFK says something, Igbo men reply him. The Oba of Lagos says something, Igbo women respond. Am I missing things here? |

Family › Re: Do You Say “thank You” To Waiter/waitress When Served In A Restaurant? by tpiadotcom: 3:51pm On Apr 15, 2015 |
DollyParton1: My point exactly. It is just shameful to stand up from a table after being served by a waiteress/waiter without leaving a tip. Those people depend heavily on the tips. I give tips to anyone I can give to. You dont expect me to tip a bus driver, or a nurse (well Nigeria is an exception). In cases like this a "Thank you" should suffice. tips are expected overseas in certain occupations. In Nigeria too, people sometimes tip bus conductors, food servers, etc. I think bus drivers are unionized and have good pay and benefits, likewise nurses (abroad). In Nigeria, tips for non-food related professions can be in various forms such as food items, beverages, clothing, etc. Not just cash. Actually, they'd be considered gifts, not tips. |

when I remember how I suffered variously in Nigeria with the light situation. . .. . ... . . . . this was way before generators became the in thing and everybody could own one . . ., . .. . . . .. . .
how I wish somebody could have pitied us and dashed us transformers in the twinkling of an eye like I'm seeing now . . . . didn't know it was possible although perhaps things have changed since those days sha, after all Nigerians now calculate in billions instead of millions (or thousands) like when I was young . . . . . . . .. .... |
