....On a much larger scale than we think.
Who would imagine that a seemingly trivial concept like "social media" would spur events culminating to something BIG in the near future?
Not many...but that won't last long.

bush by itself is ok.
bush +ignorance + half baked + attitude = not ok.
you can be bush and enlightened/classy, thats manageable.
but being bush and rascally as well as proudly uninformed, not acceptable. |

GAR3TH: You do realize that in technical terms there is no such thing as an indigene. People have alway and will always migrate. Before igbos were in onishita bini occupied the area, before the bini someone else was there and before them a different group was there and so on. Humans have been on earth for more than 250,000 years, so trust me when i say that you are not the original owner of any land. [/color] Was the area sparsely settled, or what exactly was the average number of Binis who migrated there? what time frame? I suspect there was a lot of migration to Benin and also a larger migration out of it, within this migratory timeframe a lot of southern Nigerians refer to. In other words, there is unexplained presence of various peoples known as Benin who resided in that area at some point in time, and later moved to other areas, for various reasons most of which are actually unknown but are explained as various legends. |

You shall live long
The title of the article was certainly incorrect. The man meant that he's been coming to Onitsha before many Igbos recognized the need to come and settle in the city. The poor man never said he was in Onitsha before the Onitsha man so who was living in Onitsha back then? if neither hausa nor igbos were there in large numbers. |

It was not until the war broke out that many Hausas deserted Onitsha. I did not go because nobody knew where I come from. I was still moving around in Onitsha and when anybody confronted me, I told them I come from Benin. That was how I survived in Onitsha until I joined others to move right into Biafra city where I stayed until the war ended I don't understand though, how a Hausa could pass for Bini? I guess he doesn't look Hausa. and which place was called biafra city? |

Culture › Re: Uneme: My Tribe, IS NOT Going Extinct ANYMORE! by tpiadotcom: 1:12am On Apr 10, 2015 |
historyb: Gamine, I couldn't be wrong. I am absolutely right. I am from Akoko-Edo and know the history. The Unemes with their craftmanship in steel technology as at then, manufactured chains with which slaves where taken away by the colonial invaders for financial gains. This resulted in their being excommunicated. The tribe is now scattered around Edo State and could be found in Akoko-Edo (Uneme-Nokua, Uneme-Osu, etc), Etsako, Owan, etc. The Binis call them Uleme. Akoko-Edo has the largest settlement of the Unemes.
This is just a brief history. If you need details, I could go down history memory-lane and dig up facts and link you up with your kindreds with high political status in Edo State. Inter-marriage could only be done if the Uneme identity is unknown to others (friends and family members). A forum was recently launched in Edo State to correct this age-long segregation, This cannot work, because the fact remains that modernity cannot out-run inherited norms and values. It is deep rooted and will take generations to wash aways, excepting the story is untold to the new generations, which is rapidly not associating with the traditional tenets of their ancestors. I know about this history because I grew up at home in my village. How could I tell my child/children the same history, unless the issue is awakened by happennings. I thought the chains were imported from Europe, didn't know they were locally made. |
