CultureRe: Osun -- State Of The Living Spring! Identify Here by tpiah2: 7:08am On Aug 13, 2009
anything else on Yoruba culture or Osun state?

Everyone seems to have run out of relevant stuff to post, hence the toasting all through the thread.

I myself am short of topics and questions.

The only other thing that hasnt been discussed is Yoruba religion eg Ifa, but most people know about that anyway.

Polygamy too- why is it so deeply entrenched among Yorubas. Is this a side effect of the neo-Arabic culture commonly found in Africa.

Yeah bro. Lagos really got it going for them. What's the use of indigenes when they can't even give you the best they're expected to offer their own domain?
isnt Fashola himself a Lagos indigene? likewise most of his cabinet

thus your statement is null and void grin

If I'm reading you wrong then ignore the post.

I noticed she has blue eyes. Dont know if they're real or contacts however.

For the Asians, Miss Japan is hard to beat. Miss Korea isnt too bad either.

what does the girl above have to do with the AFRICAN QUEENS OF MISS UNIVERSE?
true sha.

I did the same thing myself.
FamilyRe: Ladies, Is It Right To Choose Friends For Your Husband? by tpiah2: 1:26am On Aug 13, 2009
if the lady is refusing to marry, maybe the wife can look around to see if she can hook her up with some eligible bachelors somewhere?

The problem is even if she succeeds in her quest to wean her husband off the woman, he may eventually get himself into a deeper problem with another female who comes in to fill the gap left behind by the other one.

Seriously, men na wahala- na only God fit intervene in their matter.

Camille seems lighter or is it just me.

Nice photo of Keenya- yes she did have a little weight gain during the show. Wasnt she the one who was uncomfortable with the dancing guys in Cape town? huh Or something like that.

Eva is very photogenic. Is she really biracial? She doesnt look it.

Bre was very outspoken. Pretty too. So is Naima.

Yaya is also ok though but somewhat confused about her heritage, though I could be wrong.

It seems Toccarra is trying to become the black Marilyn Monroe.

Mercedes is ok as well. .

From what yuo have said, let us assume you were right, that means, she already have answers to the question she is asking us, that means she doesnt really trust the husband.
I see no reason why a woman shd be going thru the husband's fone, and also the man going thru the woman's fone, common, i think if u trust the person, yuo will just sit him down and talk and from he/she says, u can get answers to what you wanna know
she needed proof and it was right there on his phone.

If she goes through his phone, is it compulsory she must find something incriminating there? Why cant she go check the phone and find nothing, because the guy didnt do anything?

Pipe dream, right?

btw, either of them can check the other's phone.

Na wa for your organizing skills- you clearly lack any!!!

"I dont have any at the moment since the organization is still in the grassroots stage" or some other such civil answer is too much to expect of you?

RomanceRe: Why Do Nigerian Women Grow Fat And Ugly After Marraige? by tpiah2: 6:50pm On Aug 12, 2009
because in Nigeria a married woman is expected to look "healthy" ie somewhat plump.

if you're married and skinny they'll abuse you and your husband and wonder if you're sick.

However, be that as it may, Nigeria needs more and affordable gyms.

CultureRe: Osun -- State Of The Living Spring! Identify Here by tpiah2: 6:08am On Aug 12, 2009
current Yoruba states and their meanings

Oyo: from the old Oyo empire or Oyo people. Oyo means slippery.

Lagos: from the Portuguese word for lagoon. May also refer to the town of lagos in Portugal, where many of the early Portuguese sailors came from. The Portuguese Lagos used to be a major slave port and the first African slaves in post-medieval Europe entered through this town, which also had some big slave markets. wiki

Traditional name: Eko

Osun: river Osun which is also worshipped as a goddess by devotees in the state.

Ekiti: the only homogenous state where everyone speaks the same dialect. Ekiti means mountain and may be from the word Okiti. The language is also known as Ekiti.

Ogun: from river Ogun(?) or Ogun the traditional god of iron.

Ondo: named for the Ondo province (I think)

Foreign AffairsRe: And Hillary Rubbed It In by tpiah2: 5:45am On Aug 12, 2009
She had been sidelined for weeks after she fell on her way to the White House in June and fractured her elbow, requiring surgery. Her aides acknowledged her frustrations stemming from the injury, which made her miss out on going to Russia with Obama and attending several European conferences.

But her aides and those in the White House have denied any rift or attempt to marginalize her.

After returning to action following her injury, Clinton made a round of TV appearances and a rousing speech — all in tune with Obama's priorities, but in her own voice.

She then resumed her frenetic pace, traveling to India and Thailand and then to Africa.

Hours after she left Washington for Africa a week ago, news broke that Bill Clinton had gone on a humanitarian mission to North Korea to win the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, two television journalists who had been arrested and sentenced to 12 years at hard labor.

She arrived in Kenya to find herself peppered with questions about his secret mission.

Clinton quickly recovered her cool Monday and moved on to other subjects. Just before the question that set off her anger, another student had asked if the U.S. and the West felt a need to apologize to the people of Congo for colonialism and postcolonial interference.

That brought a pointed rebuttal as well.

"I cannot excuse the past and I will not try," she said. "We can either think about the past and be imprisoned by it or we can decide we're going to have a better future and work to make it."

Foreign AffairsRe: And Hillary Rubbed It In by tpiah2: 5:44am On Aug 12, 2009
State Department officials said the student approached Clinton afterward and told her he had meant to ask what Obama, not Bill Clinton, thought about the Chinese loan. A senior Clinton aide said that Mrs. Clinton assured the student not to worry about it.

The student's question, according to the State Department translation, went like this: "Thank you. Mrs. Clinton, weve all heard about the Chinese contracts in this country. The interference is from the World Bank against this contract. What does Mr. Clinton think through the mouth of Mrs. Clinton and what does Mr. Mutombo think on this situation? Thank you very much."

NOOOOO
im saying year after year after year it seems like its always a white, indian girl.
or sometimes a biracial girl.
this is all the time.
if it were a mix of all the girls then it would be different.

they need to start representing the black girls too, since thats the majority of the country. undecided
they might have to start by hosting a Miss Black South Africa contest.

and even then, the coloreds would probably still dominate it since they can also claim black if necessary.
