maybe blonde males have a harder time getting noticed than dark haired ones or something

Matt McConaughey, Owen Wilson, Lucas Grabeel, Zac from Saved by the Bell are ok, but some of them arent natural blondes.

Following a violent attack in 1999 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, in which some student union officials were killed by a members of cult, President Olusegun Obasanjo launched a campaign to eradicate cultism from Nigerian tertiary institutions. Hundreds of students across the country came out openly to renounce their membership of cults and the violence associated with the activities of such groups began to die down.

However, recent events indicate a resurgence.

An editorial on 30 July in the respected daily, The Guardian, attempted an explanation:
"The violence associated with the cults currently can be attributed to the general breakdown of values which we once held sacrosanct. The premium attached to human life has plummeted so badly that youths can now kill without flinching ,  We therefore cannot combat the cults menace without paying attention to the problems of the larger society."

The OAU I know is resolute than that; if they so have the power to stage a comeback, why haven't they? It's not like they're going there to meet a fellow gang

if you read the links I posted, they're already threatening to kill students and lecturers.

You may consider those as idle threats however.

not sure I'm getting your point.

Earlier on this thread, TheSeeker mentioned quite a number of negative habits asociated with different towns in the southwest, and no one considered that a personal vendetta with the townspeople.

I simply dont believe there are no cultists in OAU, thats all.

We can all hope there arent, but there's absolutely no reason why anywhere in Nigeria should be exempt from cultism, given the state of the country and the history of cults there.  Uniben and Lagos also know how to administer jungle justice, yet cultists are still rampant in both areas.

Thinking otherwise is only setting the stage for the cultists to stage a comeback which will be more brutal than what anyone saw before. They dont forgive and they dont forget.

Nothing I stated about cultists that isnt well known. They have connections in high places and they go scot free regardless what they do.

Does the police do anything to this cultist?
most of their crimes do not get prosecuted because the police' hands are tied. So the cultists go away scotfree unless they receive jungle justice, but the majority of them dont, since they have powerful connections throughout Nigeria. And at very high levels.

another warning

Tragic-comically, it is the same tertiary institutions' managements that proscribed (or bought over) active students' unionism on the basis of causing 'riots' on campuses that are now spending millions on security votes or worse still paying cult groups not to cause clashes on campuses! However, even in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where there is history of radical student unionism, cultism is rearing its heads again. Just few weeks ago, cultists were heard threatening student leaders while cases of rapes and robbery cases are being reported on campus. Also, internet fraudsters otherwise known as yahoo-yahoo boys along with their money-freaky girlfriends are becoming wilder on campus than ever.

Tpiah,

For cultism to reign in a particular school, the student body and authorities have to accept either overtly or covertly

Ife students reject cultism nd flushed out cultists in phases from 1993

In 1993, A guy from the east became president and after some time he was impeached so he went to get cultist from other schools and those within the school. They came and shot at some students to cause mayhem. I think this was after Ropo Ewenla's regime

Ever since then students made a resolution that cultism should be exterminated.

Several raids were done and a lot of jungle justice was metted to suspected cultist That culminated in the 1999 attacks. Ife student rather than being cowed rose up and fought all cultists and sent them out again

Several unconventional methods were used to fight them

Gators only cultists were beaten to death and a typical cultist has killed or intended to kill people.

In Ife you can wear any colour you want you can go anywhere as long as you can talk intelligently
well, if you say so.

I just dont believe anywhere in Nigeria is immune from cultism especially since a lot of their rituals are taken directly from the cultural setting.
CultureRe: Osun -- State Of The Living Spring! Identify Here by tpiah2: 11:30pm On Aug 14, 2009
OAU is one crazy campus because its not only cultists who scatter the place every now and then.

Even lecturers and professors do the same.

the cultists own just almost always requires gruesome bloodshed, thats all.

You should get some proper gist from the right sources.

anyway, cultists know their mode of operation, and if they limit themselves to smoking hard drugs and weed in Ife while wreaking havoc elsewhere, then there's a reason why they're doing so.
CultureRe: Osun -- State Of The Living Spring! Identify Here by tpiah2: 11:27pm On Aug 14, 2009
look at this

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (oau), Ile-Ife, Osun State have expressed palpable fear of possible attack by cultists on both students and lecturers on the campus.

Some of the students who spoke with OSUN DEFENDER disclosed that some leaders of the students union as well as lecturers in the university have received death threat messages via their cell phones from supposed cultist groups, who had sent cold shivers down their spines.

Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, a students’ leader who preferred anonymity told the medium that the lingering division within the students’ union leaders, especially the face-off between the chairman of security committee of the students’ union, God Dey, and the union president, Davidson Adejuwon (aka Daviano) is an indicator that the event that led to the gruesome death of Iwilade, and other student leaders in the institution in 1999 is about to repeat itself.

The source supported his postulation with the fact that the cultists have sent a message such as: “You should leave the campus or be dealt with” to some of the union leaders on the campus, which must not be discarded with a mere wave of the hand, he said.

In a similar development, the leaders of the joint professional unions in the university, Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SANU) have also confirmed to have received numerous threats to their lives for dragging the university authorities to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

One of such messages to the concerned leaders of the union stated: “We learnt you’ve taking the university management to some agencies, the university authority will deal ruthlessly with you, be warned and desist.

To reinforce their facts, the students and lecturers of the institution, who spoke with the medium added that the uncut lawns, bushy pathways and dark spots on the campus could aid the dastard mission of the supposed cult members, since the authority did not take any action to correct these anomalies on the campus.

The respondents therefore called on the appropriate authorities to beef up the security situation on the campus and ensure that the episode of July 10, 1999 did not repeat itself in the institution

Bowen is a missionary/xtian school.

Tpia of all public schools in Nigeria OAU has the least cult activity.

I have seen suspected cultists beaten to death before. Ask anyone they would tell you OAU is cultism free. Why do you think OAU people have sharp mouths? Cos you can abuse anyone without any repercussion.

The strongest weapon of an Ife student is the brain and the mouth No axe, cudgels, guns or whatever

"shishi" means beating in Ife parlance, We have "Ferefe shishi" minimal which might involve loss of a tooth and we have maximum "shishi" which can paralyse.  "Shishi" to Infinity is what you dont want to know.
maybe the cultists meet outside campus since Ife town is reknowned worldwide for cults and rituals.

If other campuses have problems containing cult activity, why do you feel OAU is magically cult free solely because of some beatings? Think about it. Dont other campuses know how to beat? Uniben would balk at beating people up? huh

Dayo is a reliable witness because he finished from Ife and everyone from there will know what I'm talking about. I can boldly tell you that OAU is about the only major school I now that's never experienced cultists' brawls. Trust me, no active cultist will like to study in OAU, because if you're suspected to be a cult member, you're gone.

I beg to differ that cultists don't advertise themselves. Who told you that? 99.99% of schools in Nigeria (universities, polytechnics & CEs) boast of their cultist background and that's what you'll never find in OAU. That school is too uniquely different from any school ever. Let me start from Osun alone; Esa Oke, Iree (both polytechnics), Ilesa college of education, Universal College of Technology, all boast of their occult superiority, well, Federal Poly Ede is as well similar to OAU.
the schools that boast of their cult affiliations are well known.

But not every school does so.

Dayo isnt the only Ife graduate, so I dont know why his word should take precedence over everyone esle.

You dated your view from July 1999 when you said cultists were outed on campus. Like I mentioned, they went underground because I dont believe a campus as strategic as Ife will be abandoned totally by cultists. They just shifted their main base elsewhere, that's all. Ife town itself is noted for juju and rituals- conducive environment, dont you think?

besides, they can rebuild their group there gradually when they feel the time is right.

Other universities like UI also expelled some cultists a while ago. Does that mean cultists all vacated the place.

Its not supposed to be a normal thing for a school to boast of their cult affiliation. It used to be kept secret, but since that's no longer the case then it just shows the level of neglect of the educational system and the wrong priorities most younger Nigerians now have.

Bowen university also banned cultism on campus, so OAU isnt the only school with an active stand against cults.

and OAU has always been volatile anyway regardless if its cults, religion, lecturers or student unionists causing the trouble.

OAU has a high intolerance for cultism. It's the one school in Nigeria I can guarantee anyone to go to if they want a cult-free school. However, there may be the existence of cultists, but never seen or heard them make a statement on campus.  Dayo can bear me witness on that one

and like I said, cultists are more active on some campuses than others, but it doesnt mean they're not there.

Neither do cultists always go around advertising themselves- their meetings are usually held in secret unless they decide otherwise. For whatever reason and on specific campuses.

Uniben isnt a good example to go by because the fact that cultists are very rampant and visible there doesnt mean other campuses are the same way. Unless the cultists decide they want to "take over" a particular one.

what makes Dayo a reliable witness? huh Just curious.

There's no questioning the fact that you've not been to OAU let alone knowing anything about the school. Ask anyone, OAU has zero tolerance for cultism. There was the '99 killings where some cult members from UNIBEN and other schools came and killed some executive members of the SUG. The date was July 10, 1999 and that day is still being remembered every year in OAU. What was done to suspected cult members is what I won't say here on this forum, but OAU has zero tolerance for cultism. I never heard any fraternity group having their gathering anywhere, but they sure are in town(off campus)
Cultists have a presence on every major campus in Nigeria, if not all campuses.

They may be more active and visible in some places than in others, but that doesnt mean they're not there.

Its like saying somewhere has no homosexuals because of zero tolerance. They're just underground, thats all.
