TheShaman: Landing Gist
Hello All, It would be a disservice if I did not update the thread on my landing gist so here it is:
Some Background Information On June 4th, 2021, my original travel date, I was prevented from boarding at the airport due to the Border Official, who the counter officials sent my documents via WhatsApp, declaring that June was too early a date for travel despite my Enrollment Letter showing September 2021 (this was before it being known that the new mandate was for students to arrive within Four (4) weeks of your start date). This was extremely disappointing as I had already made the GAA Hotel Booking along with the Covid Test I had done the previous day. To circumvent this, I enrolled for my Thesis which I had planned to do when I settle in after arrival in Canada (I had already completed a full year of coursework while in Nigeria). Thesis Registration took about three weeks to process (as most of the professors were in the field for research work) and by the time it was ready, Canada had announced the exemption from Quarantine for those who are fully vaccinated (which I was). I rescheduled my flight and hotel booking for July 7th and 8th and waited till the travel date.
Trip I arrived at the airport quite early and was asked for my Enrollment Letter (now showing July 5th as the start date), Covid Test Result, ArriveCAN receipt, and my Vaccination Card showing my full vaccination status at the counter. It took an hour for the Border Official to respond to their WhatsApp message and give clearance for me to travel. My flight was an Ethiopian Airlines flight that departed Lagos at 1:40 PM. I was really impressed with the food served on the plane and the access to movies, music and TV shows available on the console in front of me. The book I intended to read was left unread as I switched between watching movies and listening to some newly discovered music.
We landed in Addis Ababa at night (beautiful airport) and I was only asked for my Covid Test Result and hotel booking (if I had). We stayed about two hours or so there before changing aircraft and heading to Dublin for a one-hour refuelling stop. We were given two forms to fill on the plane - a declaration card and one containing contact information to be filled.
We landed in Toronto by 7:30 AM on July 8th and we were separated by vaccination status at immigration (Fully Vaccinated, Half Vaccination and No Vaccination). I was directed to a computer system where I filled another declaration form and was given a printout. The next stop was the border officials who requested for the printout, my Passport, ArriveCAN Receipt and Covid Test results. Upon going through them, he declared me fully exempt from hotel quarantine, the 11 days quarantine and Day 8 testing and placed a green sticker stamp on my passport. The next queue I was directed to was the one for issuing our Study Permits. We stayed on that for over an hour as there were lots of people who had landed that same morning so lots of people to process. Finally, I got to the top of the line and was asked by the Border Official for my Passport, Admission Letter and Tuition Receipt, he asked if I had started classes online which I answered yes to, he asked me to log in to my school account to verify that I had completed classes and to corroborate my answer. When he was satisfied, he issued my study permit and informed me about the 20 hours limit for working and restated my full exemption from any quarantine. I did the arrival covid test and wasn't given the home test kit for Day 8 testing due to my exemption status.
I stayed at the airport for a bit while waiting for my hotel's shuttle bus. On getting to the hotel, I informed them about my exemption status and I filled a form for refund purposes (I had booked the more expensive GAA Rate a month ago when I had originally intended to travel) while they confirm my status with Public Health Canada. I really enjoyed the food at the hotel and the room was really lovely. I had seen some terrible reviews of Crowne Plaza just before my trip but I had no issues while there for 3 days. I am currently at a friend's place while waiting for my flight to Winnipeg in Manitoba on Friday (my school is Brandon University).
Canada so far has been lovely and quite interesting to observe (the sun doesn't set in Toronto until close to 10 PM and by 5 AM it's up again). I wish everyone awaiting their PPR the best of luck and the assurance that God will perfect what He has started. I pray God blesses the Gurus (Frank and Lekibobo just to name a few) and everyone who contributes their quota in providing help and information on this great thread. Have a great day all and may the rain of PPR continue. Amen! Congratulations, may Canada soil favour you, Amen |

MOBAN444: To me Qlife is preferable. You book and pay online, You get a closer daye, You go on your date and do your medicals without stress.
But the other one, you can't even get 3 months from now. Thanks alot, |

OmaJoe1: Both are good. Just that q-life is a bit cheaper than IOM. Q-life is N40,000 while IOM is 46,500. Where do you reside or where are coming from. IOM is in the mainland while Q-life is in Island of Lagos state. Thanks alot, am coming from Port Harcourt |

Lekiboboe: Why you should Cold Mail Professors if you are looking For FULLY-FUNDED GRADUATE IN CANADA (STEM/NON-STEM)
To get a FULLY-FUNDED GRADUATE opportunity in CANADA it's very possible, but you have to be very intentional about it and not lazy, then package your documents very well to submit a strong and airtight application.
Note: This is strictly for those interested in GRADUATE RESEARCH, if you know you are not interested in Research, ignore this post, cos there was a news I heard recently whereby a Graduate student fell into depression and did the unthinkable. MENTAL STRENGTH is very essential to go through GRADUATE SCHOOL
So, I would be using a Graduate of Geophysics (B.SC holder) for illustration
Google for Geophysics Professors in the Canada whose Research areas aligns with your Research interests, then draft a dope Academic CV (your Research interests must be on your Academic CV), and send a non-generic Cold Mail to them each. Make sure your Academic CV and your Transcript are attached whenever you send cold mails to Profs.
See the link below for a Standard Academic CV for MASTERS & PH.D Admission (LINK FOR PDF FILE) https://www.oise.utoronto.ca/orss/UserFiles/File/Creating_your_academic_cv_handout_1.pdf
As a Prospective Graduate Student (Masters/PHD/Post Doc)), you need to have the following documents to kick start your GRADUATE SCHOOL JOURNEY in CANADA
- Academic CV (North-American Style & Well drafted) - Transcript (get the student Copy from your school) - Cold Mail (To be drafted & sent to each professors based on their research areas as it aligns with your research interests) - Statement of Purpose (SOP) for GRADUATE School (not SOP for Visa Application) - Cover Letter (if required) - Published Thesis (might be helpful) but not Compulsory etc.
See the link below to know to search for PROFESSORS in your research interests https://www.nairaland.com/3466778/scholarships-international-students-apply-here/95#101532358
See the links below for Samples of result-oriented Cold Mails (4-Samples) https://www.nairaland.com/6567181/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/103#102538464
Something you should be careful of about COLD MAIL
Don't send a generic cold mail to professors.
That is, " Don't send the Cold Mail meant for Dr. Cardozo to Dr. Arinola"
In a nutshell, don't send one mail copy to multiple profs.
Make sure you take your time to tailor your cold mail in accordance to the RESEARCH AREAS of each Professors.
Also Learn how to Normalize Rejections from Professors. Don't give up after getting some rejections from Profs. I know a bros who have Cold Mailed over 65 profs., it was in his 66th attempt to one Prof. like that he got a Fully-funded Graduate from a Canadian University.
Winter (January) or Fall (September) 2022 PHD admission intake should be your target, so you can start cold mailing Professors by July 2021
Note: Fall (September) is the intake that funded graduate offers are mostly available. Thanks alot SIR,GOD bless you really good,Amen |

Congratulations dear
This is going to be a really long post. Forgive me!
Help me Praise the Lord!!!! He has done it for me!! I can’t believe I ever doubted. God is so so good.
PGC in Marketing Management Humber College. (I studied Economics for undergrad 2.1 and I work in financial services).
First time applicant No NSE Request(I submitted regularly bank statement and IELTS results average of 7.5)
Timeline Application submitted - 8th February Biometrics done- 10th February Upfront medicals completed - 5th March Medicals updated to pass - 12th April Eligibility review started - 4th May BVL(I received 2 bvls minutes apart) - 28 May PPR - 14 June
When I received the 2 bvls I started panicking, I was soo worried but trust my God in heaven to perfect all things according to His will.
Documents submitted
Personal docs: Admission letter Coop letter Academic documents - bsc certificate and transcripts, professional qualifications certificate Study plan (4 pages) Resume Promotion letter at work 3 months payslip Police clearance certificate Birth certificate Affidavits ( I had to do this because I had discrepancies in my name and date of birth on my uni transcripts and WAEC certificate) International passport Previous visa pages to Uk and US Salary bank statement (6 months) Investment certificate- agropartnership and mutual funds Receipt of first semester tuition Proof of ties: family company CAC documents(I am a director and shareholder) and pension fund statement All IMM forms
Sponsor docs(my parents) Parents international passport (my dad’s passport was expired but we submitted like that) Sworn affidavit of sponsorship(only my mum did this) Letter of sponsorship signed by both parents 6 months bank statement for my mum’s accounts Fixed deposit certificate for the family company’s funds Reference letter from the bank where company funds are domiciled Work ID card of my mum Last promotion letter from my mum’s place of work Proof of rental income( receipts issued by property manager) Tenancy agreement (proof of landed properties)
I submitted my application through an amazing consultant (not all “agents” are bad lol) before joining nairaland. I thought the application was airtight then I came on here. When I saw stories of career progression and 2.1 going for masters instead of pgc and matching your proposed study to your previous studies and work experience, I started losing hope and my study plan that I thought was perfectly written was looking like it didn’t make sense.
I ordered my GCMS notes on the 21st of May but it hasn’t arrived yet.
I almost lost hope but just kept pushing and having faith in God. I prayed and fasted and cried to God to answer my prayers.
When I saw people’s eligibility review starting after 4 months and still getting refused I wanted to lose faith again but I kept joining NLP (Next level prayers with Pst. Bolaji) every morning to renew my faith and pray fervently.
I’m so grateful for this platform. All the advices and testimonies kept me sane during my waiting period. I pray for everyone expecting this good news that the good news is here already and May Canada favour us all. I know waiting can be tiring but please don’t give up, God will hasten his word to perfect all that concerns everyone waiting.
While waiting please write down your testimony in faith. I wrote my first testimony draft on the 14th of March and I was just updating as things unfolded. God remembers your faith my people.
PS: no application is the same, my boyfriend and I applied around the same time and he got his in 2 months. Just keep praying and believing God and He will do it.
God bless you all!
IT ENDED IN PRAISE![/quote] |

Sleekcee: Good morning great minds. Please I need ur input here. I applied on September 2nd 2020, biometrics 12th September. NSE request Dec 16th, submitted on the 29th jan and no further update. I decided to do upfront medical on April 12th and gave my agent to submit on 14th April. We are in May and I have asked him to check if it has been updated to pass and he said not yet that it takes 28 days to get a response se from IRCC if urgent. I have deferred my admission from January to May and now I asked him to defer from May to September. I got a mail from the sch two weeks ago saying they got my request and will let me knw when a decision has been made. Since then no further info. Thats Fanshawe college. I have asked my agent for my new admission letter since he said he has deferred and this is his response "They said they will only issue new letter if the embassy request for it". Please do i need embassy to get my admission letter when I defer? Now these are my issues: firstly I noticed my application number changed. The application number on my biometrics letter was diff from the NSE letter. I noticed it this year and asked questions and they gave me 4 diff answers. First they said IRCC asked them to apply thru NSE, another of his colleague said wen I did biometrics they did not get a response from ircc on time and they sent them an email and wen IRCC responded my application number was updated, he also said he forgot to upload mybank statement and cancelled to reapply and add it instead of the paper statement and later the agent said he did paper application in September and was asked to link it to online application so he did it in September 29th and my application number changed. Please were paper applications accepted in September when there was lockdown, and does app number change wen u link paper to online Plenty? Please let me know. Plenty stories but all I know is they reapplied on September 29th without telling me, my email was not used so I don't get mails, I don't have my password so I can't check anything. Also wen he submitted my application I drafted an sop and gave them to go thru and edit, they refused to show me the final document so I don't even knw what was submitted. I am just tired of everything. He said its against their policy to show u your own sop. Next I have been thinking about is I have an EE profile and I told them before applying for this but we did not use same UCI. I don't knw if its okay or if diff UCI is okay since its a diff application. I have ordered for my gcms notes as advised and I put my personal email. Please this is 32 days no response from caips gcms. I hope they did not send it to the email registered in my application even when I wrote my own email cos I don't even knw the mail they used to apply for me. For sometime agent stopped talking to me, said I was making troubles cos I sent them mail asking questions wen in doubt. He even mentioned he was going to report me to IRCC to ban me for 10yrs cos of the tune of my mail to them and I told him its not possible to be banned for conversation between u and your agent. Please the story is long but what can I do now? Can I send webform wen its not my email that was used to apply? I have sent mails to diff IRCC email addresses and got the same generic response of still under active processing. I don't even knw what eligibility review is cos I can't see my profile. The agent gave me my login details the first day I noticed the change in application number for me to see I had an active profile but the next time I tried to log in after 2 weeks I tried twice and was locked for 24hrs cos they said I put in wrong login details which means he changed it. He has refused to give me d details again saying its against their policy meanwhile I am not owing him a dime. Even when he gave me he said he signed agreement with IRCC that i should not be logging in too often. That u only log in wen there is an update. He kept saying ridiculous things like he is talking to a a baby. Even wen I try to argue he will insist he is right that if I log in wen they are trying to do an update it wil affect it so ircc said don't log in anyhow until they ask u to. And its same agent I used to get admission too. Please what is the solution and what are my chances? Even my own NSE letter has been different from what I've been seeing here. Mine specifically said I needed ielts and failure to submit before the deadline they wil assume I am no longer interested and proceed with denial not even option of normal processing route. I asked him why mine had a totally diff clause and he picked offence. My Application is now 8months no response. I need your inputs please Pls which agent is this, because i dont want to fall into such |
