A man who is identified as Mr. Okwudiri Okechukwu has been arraigned for allegedly giving his dog neighbour’s name in Lagos.

The man reportedly bought a dog, named it Nancy to taunt his female neighbour who bears the same name.

The incident happened at Majaoba Street in Egan area of Igando, Lagos, where they reside, PM News reports.

Mrs. Nancy Chikere got married and had children but after some years the marriage crashed, so she parked out of her husband’s house and started living alone with her children.

It was gathered that Mr. Okechukwu had a disagreement with Nancy over an undisclosed matter in the compound.

In reaction, he bought a dog and named it Nancy to the embarrassment of Mrs. Nancy.

He was said to always call the dog’s name and be abusing it; calling the dog all sort of names in reference to the woman.

When Mrs. Nancy could not bear it any longer, she confronted Okechukwu to change the dog’s name but he refused. It later led to a fight; she was seriously beaten up and injured.

The matter was reported to the police at Igando Division, Lagos; Okechukwu was arrested and detained at the police station. He was later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for the assault on Mrs. Nancy.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, did not oppose his bail but asked the court for adjournment for trial.

The defendant, Okechukwu, was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

Police said one man is in custody in connection with the shooting of a teenage girl identified as Lashonda Childs, on Shoop Avenue Tuesday afternoon, in Ohio, U.S

LaShonda’s ex-boyfriend, 28-year-old Trendell Goodwin, was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with felonious assault. They started dating last September, according to LaShonda’s mom, Nina.

Shortly after, LaShonda realized Goodwin was not 20, as he initially told her, and Goodwin started showing concerning behavior. Around January and February, Goodwin bit LaShonda hard enough to draw blood, according to Nina.

She said Goodwin would also steal LaShonda’s phones and harass LaShonda and her family.

News just reaching us confirms that a tanker vehicle loaded with fuel has caught fire in the city of Akure which is the Ondo State capital.

The said fire accident happened when the petrol tanker vehicle, on top speed, tried to avoid colliding with another car.

It lost control and instantly exploded when it fell.

The accident occurred few meters away from an NNPC filling station on the ever busy Onyarugbulem junction which links Shagari village along the Owo-Benin expressway, Akure.

As of the time of filling this report, sources told DKMNGR that many people were trapped in the fire accident, which they said also affected some buildings by the roadside have been affected also.

“The tanker was on a high speed when a Toyota Corolla car suddenly crossed the road; as the tanker driver was trying to avoid hitting the car, he swerved off his lane and the vehicle fell on the car; it caught fire immediately.

“Although, we don’t know the figure of those involved, but I am very sure that the occupants of the Toyota car that hit the petrol tanker have been burnt into ashes,” he said.

The eyewitness added that it took many hours before the men of Ondo State Fire Service arrived the scene to put it out.

Some men of the state police command and the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also made efforts to avoid more casualties.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has announced the Federal Government’s approval of a 90-day special window to register businesses at a reduced rate of N5,000 only which means that business registration would be done for just that amount.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday signed by Laolu Akande, his spokesman.

Osinbajo, who was quoted as making the announcement at the launch of the 19th edition of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinics in Enugu, said the special window of 90 spanned from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.

He said that the gesture was to further ease the process of registering MSMEs in the country.

“It was observed during some of the earlier editions of the MSMEs Clinics that a lot of MSMEs were finding it difficult to register their businesses as a result of cost.

“So, I am pleased to announce that the Federal Government, through the Corporate Affairs Commission, has approved a special window of 90 days from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 to register businesses at a considerably reduced rate of N5000 only, down from as much as N10,000 previously.

“This will afford more MSMEs an opportunity to formalise their businesses,” he said.

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said on Tuesday that though Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has done well in office, he has not been a good party man.

For this reason, Tinubu said, the party has decided to withdraw support for the governor who wished to go for a second term.

Tinubu spoke with journalists at Ward C, Ikeja Local Government Area, after the conclusion of voting in the Lagos APC governorship primary.

Asked why he withdrew his support for Ambode, Tinubu said, “Who did I support in 2014? Ambode. Life is dynamic. It’s those who made me the leader of the structure in Lagos who said it was what they want. It’s only if you have followers that you’re a leader in democracy.

“If I look back and I don’t find them again; if I don’t respond to them, if I fail to accede to their request, I would have failed the leadership test.

“This is not personal; it is beyond me as a person. Every democratic constitution is preceded by ‘We, the people’. So, I had to submit myself to the wishes and the yearnings of our party.

“This is an elixir for the general election. Ambode Akin, he’s doing well, yes; he hasn’t been a good party man; not only the glamour, not only about brick and mortal. A talent is determined by character. For you to become an influential person, you have to respond to the yearnings of the people. This is politics; democracy, one man, one vote.”

Tinubu dismissed the suggestion that the development in Lagos State could negatively affect the fortune of the party at the national level in 2019.

He also described the direct primary as the best, saying it had helped to eliminate intra-party corruption.

A heartless lecturer at the Department of Science Laboratory and Technology [SLT] of the School of Evening Studies, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, has fled after allegedly brutalizing some students.

Giving an account of the incident, Miss Blessing, a student who witnessed the brutality, said: “He gave an order for the students that were not seated, to wait outside while the practical was on.

The mutilated body of a young lady has been found dead along a bush part in Edo State.

The discovery was made, yesterday, along Sapele road, Amagba, Benin, Edo State. The plank probably used in killing her, was found across her face.

According to reports, the deceased left a baby behind. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unknown, but her bag and perfume were found close to her body.

The governor of Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will be shocked by the actions that Nigerians will take during the 2019 presidential election.

In a statement yesterday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said Buhari would have Nigerians, who would shock him, to contend with in 2019 and not the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or other opposition political parties alone.

Fayose said the tripod on which the Buhari administration was erected had collapsed like a pack of cards.

“The international community has said corruption under Buhari is worse that in times past. “Nigerians themselves know that murderous herdsmen have joined Boko Haram under Buhari and the economy, which was booming under Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, went into recession under Buhari and has remained comatose.

“For Nigerians, the 2019 election is not about political parties, particularly as it affects Buhari’s presidency.“The election will be Nigerians versus Buhari and not PDP versus Buhari or PDP versus APC, especially knowing how negatively Buhari has impacted the lives of Nigerians,” Fayose said.

According to the governors, with millions of Nigerians thrown out of jobs and an uncountable number of companies folding up on a daily basis, Nigerians in their teeming numbers are waiting for the 2019 election to vent their anger and frustration on the president’s alleged disruptive and destructive policies.

“Buhari has damaged Nigeria. He has damaged the lives of an uncountable number of Nigerians. The suffering and untold hardship he has brought on Nigeria and Nigerians is unprecedented.“Most importantly, he has destroyed the trust of Nigerians in the ballot box and the people can’t wait to send him packing so that they can get their country back.”

Fayose said in 2019, the same shocker of 2015 would be witnessed and it would be a ruder shock for those who believed in their mastery of election rigging to remain in power.On credibility of elections in the country, Fayose said:

“Look at how they subverted the will of the people in Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and recently in Osun. The fact that they had to rig those elections is a clear testimony that Nigerians have rejected Buhari and his party.

Meanwhile, the South West leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned President Buhari against victimising Fayose after leaving office in October 15, this year.

They also condemned the Osun State governorship election and berated the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly rigging the poll.The warning was contained in a statement issued at the end of the party’s stakeholders meeting held in Ibadan on Monday.

At the meeting were: the National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Eddy Olafeso; Chief Olubode George; Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Olusola Eleka; Dare Adeleke; Chief Bisi Ilaka; and former Southwest chairman, Tajudeen Oladipupo, among others.

They alleged rigging of Ekiti and Osun elections and therefore rejected the results:

“We declare our disappointment in the administration of Buhari for his inability to preside over a nation where votes must count.

“We also give due cognizance to the earlier conducted Ekiti State election and the serious assault and battery of the Governor Ayodele Fayose. The conduct of the election itself, the massive vote buying that characterized it, the vote stealing and compromised posture of INEC, hence, reject the election result as it does not represent the electoral desire of the people.

“Therefore we support our candidates in the two aforementioned elections in Osun and Ekiti states to take concrete legal actions to recover their mandates from the roguish APC that is now becoming notorious for election rigging.“We also note that Fayose’s tenure comes to an end in a couple of weeks from now, therefore we wish him well in his future endeavors. We, however, observe that the Buhari administration has clearly indicated its desire to intimidate and harass him. This attitude is cheap and very pedestrian.“Thus we declare our solidarity with Fayose and promise to stand firm in his support in the event of the prosecution of petty vendetta against his person.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has told Nigerians in the diaspora that his administration has done well in the areas of security, economy and anti-corruption.

Buhari, who stated this during an interactive session with a select group of Nigerian professionals based in the United States and Canada, said his administration had delivered within the available resources.

The president explained that Boko Haram had been decimated, adding that it was most important for the country to be secured but regretted that the terrorist group was still targeting soft spots using girls for suicide bombings.

Buhari declared that “Boko Haram is not about religion but a pure terrorist group”, adding that “is why we are dealing with them”.

On corruption, he regretted that Nigeria made so much money from 1999 to 2014 when the price of crude oil per barrel was above 100 dollars while Nigeria produced around 1.2 million barrels per day.

“Calculate 2.2 million barrels times 100 dollars times 16 years; but everything went down the drain,” emphasizing that “if Nigeria does not tame corruption, corruption will tame Nigeria”.

The president also said that he was not slow as some people had assumed, saying he was trying to follow the law, especially as democracy is different from military rule.

He recalled that he put people in Kirikiri Maximum Prison in Lagos when he was a military head of state and then ensured they remained in custody until they were able to prove themselves innocent.

Buhari, however, said his administration was making progress but had to go by the law assuring that “if I win the next election and I survive the next four years, I will do better”.

He also recounted his bitter experience in politics saying that he suffered electoral corruption from 2013 when he started contesting for the presidency and had at each point, pursued the case up to the Supreme Court but lost.

“I’m always conscious of the ordinary people because they are the ones that always vote for me. A lot of big men have no time to go and queue on the line for hours.

“There were even pregnant women who were on the line for hours and they delivered. They are my constituencies; they always vote for me,” Buhari said.

The president explained that he had warned the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies to ensure that every vote counts by allowing Nigerians to vote whoever they want without harassment.

Buhari said he recognised that Nigerians in the diaspora were talented people and called on them to come to the support of the country, particularly, in education.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the diasporas appealed to the president to get them more involved in issues about the country considering that they are major stakeholders.

Earlier, the Consul-General of Nigeria in New York, Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen, commended the willingness of the diasporas to support the efforts of the government’s economic growth and diversification plans.

“ The purpose of this gathering is to allow Nigerians in diaspora interact with Mr President by offering useful suggestions for government to continually strengthen the existing bond of affection, identity and sense of responsibility for the Diaspora community, to actively participate in development efforts of Nigeria at home.

”I feel delighted to state the obvious that among Nigerians in the United States, we have some of the most celebrated and outstanding in various fields of human endeavours.

“I wish to report to Mr President of the desire and passion of these Nigerians to contribute and maintain an effective working partnership with government to integrate their valuable contributions into the domestic growth mechanisms.

Results from the polling units involved in the Osun rerun election have revealed that the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, may be declared the winner of the Osun State governorship election.

Senator Iyiola Omisore has stated that his Social Democratic Party, SDP will support the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the Osun re-run election set to hold today, Vanguard reports.

Omisore dumped the PDP after high level talks with the leaders of the APC in Ile-Ife. The APC delegation, which comprised the party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and four governors, Ajimobi, Ganduje, Amosun and Badaru, including governor-elect Kayode Fayemi and minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed.

The Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that what is paramount to him is the practice of true democracy, good governance and accountability in Osun State.

This is coming after over 72 hours of being pressurised by the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress ahead of the rerun election in the state.

Mourinho confirmed Paul Pogba has been stripped of the vice-captaincy at United, but insists they have not fallen out as reports began to circulate prior to United’s disappointing 8-7 penalty shoot-out defeat to Derby County in the EFL Cup on Tuesday that Pogba who was rested had been relieved of the role.

The French World Cup-winner had captained United three times this season in the absence of Antonio Valencia, including the Premier League opener against Leicester City.

Mourinho’s decision to give Pogba the armband on that occasion came hard on the heels of suggestions Barcelona were pressing to sign the 25-year-old. But the midfielder has made several comments which some have considered to be veiled digs at Mourinho this season, the latest coming following the 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday, and the Portuguese confirmed reports of the change after the Derby clash.

He told Sky Sports: “the only truth is that I made the decision of Pogba not to be the second captain anymore. There was no fall out. The person who made the decision to be second captain was also me. It’s just one decision which I don’t have to explain.”

After United’s win over Leicester, Pogba claimed he would be fined if he commented on his situation at the club, while he also conceded his attitude was not right in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. Pogba’s latest comments on Monday saw him question Mourinho’s tactics, as he implored United to “attack, attack, attack” when playing at home, though he is adamant his remarks were misrepresented.

The Nigeria Police Moblie Force (PMF) officers that was attached to 62 kafanchan Kaduna who where send to official duty on Saturday Osun Governorship Election has involved in a fatal accident on their way back to base five of them has reported sustained injury by coorespondance while the one officer died at the spot.

Five of the officers attached to Division 62 kafanchan, Kaduna State, sustained varying degrees of injuries after the accident, yesterday, while one reportedly died.

The National Assembly has extended its resumption that earlier slated to hold on Sept 25 to October 9.

In a statement last night in Abuja, the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Mohammed Sani-Omolori, said the postponement was due to the activities of political parties.

“This is to inform all Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members that the resumption of plenary earlier scheduled for Tuesday, September 25 has been postponed to Tuesday 9th October due to the activities of the primaries of the political parties.

“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are expected to resume plenary session by 10.am on the 9th of October, please,” the statement said.

Daily Trust had last week reported that the assembly would not reconvene this week as earlier slated.

Our correspondent reports that the budget for the 2019 general elections and other national issues that await the approval would be delayed due to the postponement.
