Staff of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero Ekiti, have downed their tools over the alleged non-payment of cooperative, pension and union deductions by the government. ekiti https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Map-of-ekiti-state.jpg?w=650&ssl=1 Members of the academic and non-academic unions on Monday took to the streets in a protest and vowed not to resume until their demands are met by the government. They, however, said the declaration of the strike was not political but purely demand driven. “The congress unanimously declared an indefinite strike and will not resume work unless management clears all outstanding deductions. “Demanding what belongs to us is not at the behest, command, benevolence or will of the provost or the management,” the Chairman of the Institution’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Victor Oluwaseyi, said. Attempts to speak with the provost of the college proved abortive. However, an aide to the state governor, Lere Olayinka, blamed the situation on the paucity of funds on the state, alleging that the Federal Government had denied them of certain funds. “The Federal Government is deliberately withholding refunds on federal road constructions and other funds due to the state. “The college in question draws subvention from state government purse, so the ripple effect of the financial situation is telling on the institutions too,” he said. https://dkmngr.com/ekiti-college-of-health-staff-shut-institution-declare-indefinite-strike/ |

Residents in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have been experiencing earth tremors in the past few days. The areas where the earth tremor was pronounced were Mpape and parts of Maitama districts. https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/earth.jpg?w=503&ssl=1 The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has attributed the cause of the tremor to seismic movement within the earth. Director General, FEMA, Abbas G. Idriss, said in a statement on Thursday that the tremor was caused by sudden breaks along a fault line, resulting in sudden release of energy that makes the ground shake. “We have been inundated with distress calls in our watch room as a result of Earth shaking happening around Mpape and parts of Maitama districts of the FCT. While appreciating the calls from the public, the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) wishes to say that the possible cause of the earth shaking might be as a result of earth tremors. It is also a sign of seismic movement within the earth, caused by sudden breaks along a fault line, which results in sudden release of energy that makes the ground shake,” Idriss said. Senate President Bukola Saraki also said, 'we have all been feeling the earth tremors in Abuja and surrounding areas over the last 48 hours. I know that many people are scared, but please, remain calm and vigilant. At this time, it is important that NEMA, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and all emergency services be on high alert to prevent the loss of lives and property'. https://dkmngr.com/bukola-saraki-react-earth-tremor/ |

The Nigerian police have arrested an 82-year-old herbalist, Babatunde Rufai, alongside nine others who are members of a cultist group over last weekend’s murder of Sergeant Collins Esiabor. https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/ser.jpg The herbalist, Rufai, who is said to be the head of Igunuko Masquerade, has been linked the murder which involves the Aiye cult group as they allegedly to lynched the police officer on August 29 in the protest of the death of their colleague. Others arrested in connection with the killing are: Adewunmi Suleiman, 28; Olorunda Michael, 21; Omoba Idowu, 27; Olarewaju Hammed, 20; Ransom Adewuye, 27; Ayo Adeyanju, 27; Anu Akinola, 24 and Ige Akanbi, 29. Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal said the herbalist allegedly treated a self-inflicted gunshot injury on one of the suspects, who mishandled an AK-47 rifle the mob seized from the slain Sergeant. The police chief said Elegbede allegedly took part in the lynching of the cop, adding that both men were official native doctors for the cult group and usually treated members’ gunshot wounds without informing the police, as stipulated by law. Although Elegbede denied the allegation, Edgal said he partook in the treatment of the injured member said to have fled to Ondo State, and concealed the information from the police. He said: “On August 29 at Haruna Bus Stop in Ifako-Ijaiye, Ogba, a mob, for no good reason and without any provocation whatsoever, attacked a police team and vandalised a patrol van stationed to provide security in the area, leading to the death of Sergeant Collins Esiabor. “I promised then that the command would unravel and prosecute those behind the dastardly act. Investigation launched into the incident led to the arrest of 10 suspects. “The suspects are cultists, as attested to by one of them, Ayo Adeyanju, who conveyed the bocy of their late member to the burial site. On their way, they decided to avenge the death of the deceased on the police patrol team even though it was clear that the police had no physical contact whatsoever with the deceased. “According to the suspects, the deceased sighted policemen within his vicinity and attempted to scale a fence, believing they were after him. Unfortunately, he put the wrong foot forward and fatally injured himself. “Meanwhile, Rufai and Elegbede, mentioned as accomplices to the group, were also arrested. Recovered from them are a Dane gun and assorted charms.” The police chief said the suspects would be charged with murder, adding that efforts were on to arrest other fleeing suspects. Edgal said: “Those guys confronted the police and seized an AK-47 rifle from the policeman. They did not know how to operate the gun; so, one of them mistakenly shot himself in the foot with the rifle. “These (pointing at the suspected herbalists) are the babalawo who give them treatment. They are official babalawofor the cult group. So, anytime they have gunshot wounds, they go to them for treatment and these men conceal the information from the police. “Besides, they live in that neighborhood and heard what happened to a policeman. Yet, they never told us about a gunshot victim they treated until investigation implicated them.” https://dkmngr.com/herbalist-9-others-arrested-sergeant/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has berated the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, over the federal government’s empowerment of some traders with N10,000 in Osun State. https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Osinbajo.jpeg PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it was a shame that Osinbajo could condescend to empower “Agbo jedi” sellers with N10,000 in Osun State. Sharing a photograph of those empowered on his Twitter handle, Ologbondiyan wrote, “It’s a shame that a pastor and a professor of law, VP @ProfOsinbajo will stoop this low to encourage the 10k “agbo jedi” empowerment in Osun. “Aregbe has made life so pitiable for Osun citizens.” Osinbajo had on Monday arrived in Iwo, Osun State, to launch an empowerment programme for 30,000 traders across the state. The programme tagged ‘Tradermoni’ is an initiative of the Federal Government in collaboration with the Bank of Industry for petty traders. Each of the 30,000 traders are billed to receive the sum of N10,000 to boost their businesses. Executive Director of BOI, Toyin Adeniji, said the bank would not relent until every Nigerian who is willing, has access to loans irrespective of their status or level of education. https://dkmngr.com/pdp-mock-osinbajo-empower/ |
Report just coming to us has revealed that two young men have been arrested for buying stolen laptop in the city of Lagos. https://i0.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/robbers-in-Lagos.jpg The police in Lagos state have arrested a 27-year-old Adejagun Babatunde and 20-year-old Lawal Wasiu – for allegedly receiving a stolen laptop from two teenage burglars for N2,000. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on Wednesday, said the case was worrisome because minors were involved. Imohimi said: “The command’s operatives attached to the Ejigbo Police Division on September 2, 2018, arrested two teenagers (names withheld), aged 13 and 14, who specialised in breaking into people’s shops. “Luck ran out on them when they burgled a shop at Block 397, Jakande Estate, Ejigbo, and made away with one generator valued at N15,000; one HP laptop, valued at N90,000; one amplifier, valued at N40,000; and one CD mixer, valued at N150,000. “The police have arrested their adult collaborators, 27-year-old Adejagun Babatunde, and 20-year-old Lawal Wasiu. The two adults bought the stolen HP laptop for N2,000 only. The adult suspects will have their day in court, while the child offenders will be handed over to the gender section for appropriate action.” One of the teenage burglars said he took the laptop inside an opened shop, adding that he was accompanied by his friend to a complex at Ejigbo where they were paid N2,000 for the laptop. The second teenage suspect said he was only involved in selling the laptop. The buyer of the laptop, Babatunde, said he got to know the boys through Wasiu. He said: “Wasiu came to me that the two children wanted to sell a laptop. They told me that they wanted to sell the laptop because they were hungry, adding that the laptop belonged to their brother, who was no longer a deejay.” Wasiu said: “The two boys said they were hungry and that I should give them money. I told them that I did not have money and I directed them to Babatunde.” https://dkmngr.com/two-men-arrested-stealing-laptop/ |
Nigeria Super Eagles Coach, Gernor Rohr will on Saturday in Victoria attempt to return to a winning way after Nigeria’s early exit from the just concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. https://i0.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Eagles-at-training-891x470.png The Eagles are bottom-placed in their Africa Cup of Nations 2019 qualifying group after losing their first Match to South Africa at home. The German tactician will be parading a squad who were in action for the national team in the 21st FIFA world Cup tournament missing for the must win AFCON away match on September 8 in Seychelles . With less than 72 hours to the kick of the match, several key players like Shehu Abdullahi, Tyrone Ibuehi, and Captain John Mikel Obi had been ruled out because of injury while Victor Moses had retired from National Team Football week preceding Eagles Camp. Nigeria will also miss the services of three vital players of Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina as they are not at Seychelles camp after picking up injuries while with their respective clubs. The Seychelles game is a must-win for the Super Eagles and the available player would need to step up as another defeat or dropped points in Seychelles could spell doom for the Super Eagles chances of making the 2019 AFCON having already lost at home to South Africa. Rohr will be picking from the array of professional Nigerian internationals already in camp for the fixture as the bubbling camp is swelled with the likes of; Ahmed Musa, Ogenyi Onazi, Odion Ighalo, Etebo Oghenekaro, Leon Balogun, and Jamilu Collins. Others are; Onyekuru, Omeruo, Uzoho, Semi Ajayi, Samuel Kalu, Ndidi, Iheanacho, Awaziem, Nwakali, Bryan Idowu, Simeon Nwankwo, Joel Obi Ikechukwu Ezenwa, abd Daniel Akpeyi. Eagles are two days old at their training camp already. They had a good recovery walk around the beach in front of our Savoy Hotel camp, Victoria Tuesday and also did Foot-Volley game. They were on the turf for full training time on Wednesday. They also had good cool beach experience to round off the session. https://dkmngr.com/seven-super-eagles-missing/ |
