This came in reaction to Governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai’s choice of a Muslim as his running mate for 2019.

The Governor had announced former Secretary of Kaduna Primary Health Care Development Agency, PHCDA, Hajiya Dr Hadiza Balarabe as his new running mate for the 2019 election.

Balarabe would be replacing his present Deputy Governor, Bala Bantex, who is running for Kaduna South Senatorial seat on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to the development in his Twitter page on Sunday, the Kaduna lawmaker said Kaduna state is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic state and that as such, none should be treated with contempt by any government or non-state actors.

Senator Sani, who recently moved to the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, and got the ticket to contest for the Kaduna Central senatorial seat after dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), wrote, “Kaduna state is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic state. We are a society of diversity. People of all faiths must be treated with equal respect and dignity.

“None should be treated with contempt or disrespect by any Government or non state actors. This is justice, this is peace.”

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Yekini Nabena, has said that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Atiku Abubakar will not fulfill most of his campaign promises to Nigerians.

He said Atiku’s pledge to reduce the pump price of fuel to N90 per litre if elected as president was only a fiction.

Nabena in a statement Sunday in Abuja noted that the promise sounds like a cheap political gist designed to hoodwink unsuspecting voters ahead of the 2019 election.

“A perusal of well-entrenched and verifiable market fundamentals clearly indicates that the promise is virtually anchored on fiction and limited knowledge of the petroleum industry.

“The fact as we speak is that at a petrol cost under-recovery fluctuating between N60-N70 per litre propelled by vaunting crude oil price of around $81 per barrel, the only way the bogus promise could be possible albeit unreasonably, is through the re-introduction of the PDP styled subsidy payment schism which almost bled the nation to death

“It is shocking to note that at a period when the nation is looking ahead to embrace the eventual deregulation of the downstream sub-sector of the oil and gas industry to allow for equitable private sector participation and break the seeming NNPC monopoly of fuel importation, the PDP is plotting a reversal of the spiraling wheel of progress.

An underlying health condition or traits inherited from the family that causes an adult to be bed-wetting, has been spoken about by a medical doctor, who shared an insight.

A General Medical Practitioner, Dr. Samuel Adeolu, on Thursday, said bed-wetting among adults is a medical issue.

Adeolu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the phenomenon among adult indicates an underlying health condition or traits inherited from the family.

According to him, study has shown that someone with two bed-wetting parents has a 77 per cent chance of becoming a bed-wetter.

He said:-

“When one parent bed-wets as a child, his son or daughter is found to have a 40 per cent chance of becoming a bed-wetter. These probabilities carry into adulthood as well,’.

Adeolu said that excessive production of urine during sleep was also known as nocturnal polyuria.

He said:-

“This abnormality can cause nocturnal enuresis in adults; but it is also a symptom related to type I diabetes.

“Patients with a smaller bladder are often dealing with primary nocturnal enuresis.

“The physical size of the bladder is not actually smaller, rather the Functional Bladder Capacity (FBC) can hold a smaller volume of urine.

“Related to FBC, if the muscles of the bladder, known as detrusor muscles, are overactive, nocturnal enuresis can occur.

“In fact, detrusor over-activity has been found in up to 70 to 80 per cent of primary nocturnal enuresis”.

Adeolu noted that psychological problems such as stress, fear, anxiety, side effects of certain medications, excessive ingestion of alcohol and irritable bladder are some of the causes of bed-wetting in adults.

He said that for secondary nocturnal enuresis, underlying health issue was at the root of the bed-wetting.

According to him, such problems can be associated with the prostate in men or pelvic organ prolapse in women.

He said:-

“Any of these medical issues can also cause bed-wetting in adults.

“They are Diabetes, urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, neurological disorders, anatomical abnormalities, urinary tract calculi, prostate cancer, prostate enlargement, bladder cancer, or obstructive sleep apnea.”

He, however, said that the disorder among adults could be treated surgically with medication and a change in daily lifestyle routine.

The veteran Yoruba actor died in the early hours of Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the age of 80.

The actor’s first daughter and eldest child, Ajike confirmed the news of his death to newsmen in Lagos.

“My dad has gone, he died this morning,” Ajike said.

Prior to his death, the script interpreter had been admitted at the University College Hospital.

He suffered from an enlarged heart, spinal cord problem and prostate cancer.

The actor was discharged from the hospital earlier in the week before he passed on Thursday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Appeal Committee has upheld and reaffirmed that Senator Shehu Sani remains the party’s candidate for Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 2019 general election.

This was contained in the report of the recommendation of a five-man panel, which was exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday in Abuja.

The committee, which was headed by Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, gave the Senator a clean bill of health, insisting that Sani is the only senatorial candidate from the zone that is duly recognised by the party.

Other members of the committe are: Mike Ugwa (Secretary), Musa Gwadabe, Reuben Famuyibo and Abdulrahman Adamu.

Following the complaints and protest that trailed the conduct of the presidential, governorship and legislative primary elections of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, APC National Chairman inaugurated an appeal committee to look into the various complaints by aggrieved aspirants.

Some of the aspirants accused the party leadership of deliberately delaying the process as a ploy to frustrate aggrieved aspirants and make their petitions belated.

Sani’s challenger, Uba Sani, who is also a Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the Kaduna State Governor had earlier approached a court, where he had filed a suit against the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, to stop him from conducting the primaries for the Senate and House of Representatives in the state.

The Senator had distanced himself from a primary election held in the state on Saturday, where he was said to have lost to Mallam Uba Sani.

Former Ekiti governor, Ayo Fayose, has maintained his denial of all the allegations made against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

His media aide, Lere Olayinka, in a statement on Wednesday, said Fayose had insisted that he be charged to court.

“Today is his second day in the custody and I can say that his spirit is high and his will remains very strong,” he said.

Olayinka, who said the EFCC must stop acting irresponsibly by subjecting Nigerians to media trial whenever they lacked concrete evidence to sustain court trial, added that “the commission has started its usual lies by claiming that it discovered houses bought by Fayose with public fund.”

He said: “Nigerians should recall that in 2016, operatives of this same EFCC attempted to seal up a guest house located at Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, claiming that it belonged to Fayose. Whereas, the building belonged to a retired army general.”

Olayinka said since the EFCC claimed to have “overwhelming evidence” against the former governor, the most reasonable thing to do is to charge him to court and get him prosecuted with the overwhelming evidence at the
commission’s disposal.

“However, since the EFCC is only being used to settle political scores, it is more comfortable with keeping Fayose in custody so as to achieve the agenda of keeping him out of circulation and embarking on its usual media trial.

“But on this Fayose’s matter, they have picked on a wrong customer and no amount of intimidation, blackmail and harassment will break his resistance to tyranny, agent of which the EFCC has become.”

According to Fayemi, “Today, we reclaim our land from those that have held us hostage. We will thoroughly reveal and distribute documents of what happened in our state during the past administration.

“We are not interested in trial by the media or witch-hunting but will we will say the truth before our people.

Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), said yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari would not win in the South-West, South-East, South-South, North-Central.

According to him, Nigerians, through their votes, will send him back to the core North in 2019 because he has completely lost the goodwill with which he rode to power in 2015.

Agbakoba said Nigeria was now broken politically, strategically, morally, and completely bankrupt.

Speaking with Daily Independent in Lagos, Agbakoba, who is the leader of the Nigerian Intervention Movement (NIM), said based on his performance in the last three and half years, nothing qualified President Buhari to continue for another term in office.

According to him, even the president’s wife, Aisha Buhari, was not in support of her husband continuing in office for another term which explained why she criticised the recently concluded primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and also advised Nigerians to vote wisely in 2019.

On the three-pronged promise of the Buhari administration, namely tackling insecurity, revamping the economy, and the war against corruption, Agbakoba said the current administration had not fulfilled any of the promises, insisting that corruption was now rife in the administration.

He said: “I think it misses the point to say that President Buhari is as popular as he was in 2015, because he is not.

“When the PDP ran their presidential primaries, a lot of big Northerners were there; people like Kwankwaso, Lamido, Dankwambo, Tambuwal, Makarfi, and others.

“In any case, President Buhari will not expect to win the North-West and become Nigeria’s president because he has taken part in four elections, this will be his fifth.

“The only time he won was when (Bola) Tinubu made the foolish mistake of bringing him to the South. Now, what will happen is that we will send him back to the North. The North alone can’t make him president; he has to have national appeal.

“So, I can tell you for free that President Buhari is not going to win the North-Central. He is not going to win the South-West; he is not going to win the South-East, and he is not going to win the South-South. So, I don’t know where his votes will come from. If it is going to come from the North-West, that is fine.

“Completely, President Buhari has no goodwill left. All the euphoria that was felt, I didn’t feel it because I have always known his background.

“There was a huge euphoria of change that former President Goodluck Jonathan had not done well; that he presided over a highly corrupt government, and Buhari was the Mr. Clean, Mr. Integrity, and he will fix things. But that has not happened.

“On the contrary, Nigeria is broken politically, strategically, morally, and a completely bankrupt country. Poverty level has grown, 85 million Nigerians are extremely poor, we have now become the poverty capital of the world.

“So, the euphoria of 2015 is certainly not the euphoria of 2019, and that is why, personally, I am unable to support his campaign to remain in office.

“To support the campaign to remain in office for me is to look back at what he has done, the campaign promises on corruption, security, and the economy. These are the three big campaign issues, nothing has been fulfilled.

“In spite of all the monies borrowed, we are now pushing to over $30 billion borrowed money unaccountable, infrastructures all in pieces, corruption is rife”.

“You remember the case of his SGF, Babachir Lawal; you also remember the case of Abdulrasheed Maina, and so on. So, there is nothing that stands him out as qualified to continue.

“Even Buhari’s wife has criticised the primary election that the APC held, so that will tell you that even in the other room in his house, he doesn’t have support.

“Why would I be supporting a man whose own wife does not even support him? For me, he is history. I just hope that we can have a new president.”

Giving a detailed projection of what may play out in the 2019 presidential election, Agbakoba, who blamed Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State, for forming an alliance with Buhari in 2015, said Buhari contested four times between 2003 and 2011 but couldn’t achieve success because he didn’t enjoy the support of the South.

Agbakoba, who said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement carried a lot of weight based on the strong followership he enjoys across the country, said anyone saying Obasanjo was irrelevant as far as the 2019 presidential election was concerned, would be making a huge mistake.

“There is no way he can discountenance the influence of Obasanjo, you will be doing so at your peril because he has a strong followership.

“Obasanjo has strong followership in the South-West, Afenifere is on his side because they all believe in restructuring.

“The South-East cultural, traditional systems are on the side of Atiku because he believes in restructuring. The South-East has felt marginalised and excluded and he (Atiku) now comes and said I will bring you in.”

On the chances of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, Agbakoba said the presidential election was a two-horse race between the APC and PDP and argued that the claim by Buhari’s loyalists that Atiku was corrupt did not matter.

He said what mattered was his ability to turn around the fortunes of the country like US President Donald Trump is doing despite the many negative stories about his personality.

“I am not interested in whether he is a thief. Jesus Christ cannot be the president of Nigeria. Donald Trump is not an angel but he is the most effective president in a long time.

“In the United States now, unemployment rates are down, the economy is booming, and everything is working.

“The fact that he has girlfriends and does all those bad things doesn’t mean that he is not effective.

“Yes, Atiku may not be an angel but I am not interested in that. I am tired of having a bad government. It is almost like the Jonathan-Buhari thing.

“When people said they were tired of Jonathan and brought in Buhari, so the same way now, people are tired of Buhari, and it is my hope that Atiku, if he does win, will learn lessons and move forward to do the right thing,” he said.

It is true that I came into the race relatively late but don’t forget I was a minister of the Federal Republic and I needed clearance from my principal before venturing into the race. I only entered the race when I received that clearance.

Did it ever cross your mind that you could be defeated, a situation that could have serious implications on your political career?

Not really! I wouldn’t have gone into the race if I wasn’t sure of eventual victory. But I knew there were going to be several hoops to jump on the journey. Certainly, if I had lost, it would have been seen as a huge negative on my political career. I learned a lot from the experience which exemplified the value of adequate preparation and strategic planning.

Leaders of the opposition party among whom are the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, led the protesters to INEC office after they had earlier converged at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja.

Also among the protesters are Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State; former Niger State Governor and presidential aspirant, Sule Lamido; and Senator Dino Melaye, among others.

The PDP wants the electoral umpire to declare PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the Osun election.

The protesters appeared on T-shirts with the inscription “The Nigeria Police and INEC are arms of the All Progressives Congress.”

Injured not dead

One person was severely injured in the ongoing primary elections of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

DKMNGR gathered that some loyalists to one of the aspirants, who is from the family of a popular politician, on sensing that he would lose ticket, ordered his boys to disrupt the exercise.

Our reporter, who monitored the situation, observed that the thugs blocked the entrance to the Ape Aku Stadium, where the primary elections for House of Assemblies in Benue South was going on.

Angered by the impending defeat, the thugs started pelting stones at delegates, which forced the security to fire shots into the air.

One of the delegates was injured and has been rushed to the hospital at the time of this report.
