The remains of Justice Ijeoma Uche (retd.), an eminent jurist and first female judge in Abia and the old Imo, were on Saturday laid to rest in her country home in Amankalu Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia. https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/abia.png?w=502&ssl=1 Speaking yesterday during the funeral service by the Jehovah’s Witness sect, Abia governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, represented by his deputy, Chief Ude Oko-Chukwu, said that the late jurist distinguished herself as a judge and mother. He lauded her immense contributions to the development of the judiciary in the state, saying that Abia owed her a lot of gratitude. Gov. Bindow Jibrilla of Adamawa, who was represented at the funeral by his deputy, Mr Martins Banbella, said that Uche’s death evoked mixed feelings of sadness and joy. “Sadness because we will henceforth miss her invaluable qualities and joy because we are hopeful that we shall meet her again on the resurrection day,” he said. Speaking also, a representative of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Joseph Owolabi, extolled the virtues of the deceased, who passed on at the age of 84, saying that she devoted her life to the service of God and humanity. Owolabi said that Uche demonstrated her love for Jehova by serving Him faithfully, adding that she remained undaunted, notwithstanding her old age and feeble bones. He said: “She loved Jehova so much and worked tirelessly for Him. In spite of her old age and feeble bones, she never gave up. “She remained faithful and committed in service to Jehova and was submissive to her husband.” News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the funeral service was attended by frontline politicians in Abia and other parts of Nigeria. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief Justice of the Federation, Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen, Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, sent in glowing tribute on the deceased. Others prominent Nigerians that sent in condolence messages to the bereaved family included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, and Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr Dayo Apata. NAN recalls that the deceased was sworn in as a Chief Magistrate in 1985 in the old Imo and later elevated to a Judge. She became the first female judge in Abia, after the state was carved out of Imo in 1991. She was survived by four children, including two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) – Chris and Gordy – who are practicing in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. member of the congregation. https://dkmngr.com/osinbajo-atiku-governors-pay-tribute-as-first-female-abia-judge-is-buried/ |

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has taken a stand in the battle between Nigerian governors and labour unions over the N30,000 minimum wage. https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/osho.png?w=814&ssl=1 Oshiomhole said the governors have no excuse to deny the workers the agreed minimum wage, adding that a labourer deserves to be paid as at when due. Oshiomhole, who was the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, told New Telegraph that delaying or refusing to pay workers hinders the economic development of any state. The Nigerian Governors Forum, comprising the 36 states governors and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, had after their meeting in Abuja last week, said they cannot pay the agreed N30000 minimum wage. Oshiomhole said, “My views are clear that payment of wages is not an act of kindness for an employer to pay the employees’ wages at the end of the month. “There are provisions in our Labour Act that says that you cannot delay the payment of salaries in excess of 30 days interval, which means salaries ought not to accumulate beyond 30 days. “Government decides the size of its employment, but when it makes the decision to employ, it has the obligation to pay. Even the Holy Bible says that the labourer is entitled to his wages. “I think again, this is where President Buhari stands out clearly. He has publicly asked public sector employers; how do you sleep when you have not paid your employees for one year. “But he did not stop at lamenting, he went on to provide the much talked about bailout fund and said ‘please use this money to pay your workers and pay pension arrears.’ “And even the deductions from states that were done under the PDP in the name of settling our foreign debts, under President Buhari, despite the huge financial challenges that he faces, he decided to assist the states to meet up with their social obligations by paying what is now referred to as Paris Club refund. “So, I am very proud that the President has conscience, he recognizes that the Nigerian worker deserves his wages and that is why he has publicly lamented that there are governors who have not paid salaries as and when due, whether they are PDP or APC is immaterial. “And in seeking to deal with this, he has also provided support across party divide and I think that is statesmanship at its best. “As for my views on the minimum wage, I tried to deal with it as a governor. I told my colleagues then that wage is not a burden. “In Economics, when people work and get paid, purchasing power is enhanced and because purchasing power is enhanced, producers will respond to that by seeking to produce more goods and services. In the process, they will recruit more hands. “But when you don’t pay wages, you create a vicious circle, nonpayment of wages leads to low purchasing power, nonpayment of rents, which compounds the problem of those who have invested in real estate thereby depressing the commercial life of the country. “I tried to settle this question by increasing minimum wage in Edo State to N25,000 from N18,000. I remember some people calling me to ask how I will pay it. I am on record of having paid it and as we speak, my successor in office is paying it. I do not agree with those who say Nigeria cannot afford a more realistic minimum wage. “My being in government or now chairman of a party cannot change what I believe in. I believe that no nation has enough to meet the greed of leaders, but nations have enough to meet the basic needs of their people. “The real problem in the public sector is money being stolen in the name of salaries. I found it embarrassing when we talk about ghost workers. And I ask the question who counts ghosts? It is only in Nigeria that ghosts are known. “The labourer deserves his wage, and the primary purpose of government is the welfare of its people. So, we must pay wages as and when due. “ https://dkmngr.com/new-minimum-wage-oshiomhole-breaks-silence-on-governors-refusal-to-workers-n30000/ |

The national spokesman of the party, Lanre Issa-Onilu, who described the report of Oshiomhole’s ordeal with the DSS as a rumour because the APC has not been officially informed about the matter. https://i0.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/APC-reacts-to-alleged-Oshiomhole-detention-by-DSS-over-bribery-lailasnews.jpg?w=600&ssl=1 It was learnt that Oshiomhole was grilled by the DSS operatives for nine hours after some APC governors alleged that he received bribes during the party’s primary elections across the country. However, Issa-Onilu said Oshiomhole was the best person to confirm or deny the report. He said, “We do not have any information on this rumour. More so, the Chairman is not around in the country to confirm or deny this. “As soon as we have any relevant information, you’ll be updated. Asked for Oshiomhole’s whereabouts, he said: “He (APC Chairman) travelled last night.” Pressed further for information as to the National Chairman’s destination, Issa-Onilu maintained: “I do not have this information. I do know it’s a scheduled personal trip he could not make last week due to the November 2 deadline for the submission of candidates.” Meanwhile, the senator representing Kogi West district, Dino Melaye, has mocked the APC over Oshiomhole’s reported questioning over alleged bribery. The senator wrote on his Twitter handle: “Can it be true that Adams Oshiomhole has been the guest of SSS for 2days? “A lot of confessions and revelations said to have been made over corruption associated with party tickets. “APC is really fighting corruption. Elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said the Yoruba nation will not be deceived again by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari next year. https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/tinubu2.png?w=699&ssl=1 Speaking with Daily Independent, Adebanjo, revealed he has thrown his weight behind Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to him, Tinubu succeeded in selling Buhari to the South-West in 2015, due to his claim that the president has integrity and the willpower needed to turn the fortunes of the country around. According to Adebanjo, Tinubu himself has realised he made a great mistake entering into alliance with Buhari, but he is ashamed of saying it out. “Do you think we are stupid people in the South-West? Yoruba people are more intelligent than all that. Tinubu succeeded in 2015 because of the fake integrity attached to Buhari. He succeeded in bringing Buhari because of the fake integrity attached to him but the last three years has exposed him to be fake. “People have seen him to be fake. He is not somebody anyone can rely upon and I have no doubt in my mind that Tinubu would have seen the stupidity of aligning with him. By now, Tinubu must have realised the foolish mistake he made by aligning with him but he will not come out to admit it. “Yoruba people are too intelligent to be used again. Once bitten, twice shy. Tinubu has sold the Yoruba by aligning with Buhari, even at this stage. He agreed with Buhari to do restructuring, to do federalism. When the man now got there and he is not doing it, has Tinubu got the courage to pull out? “And I have said it to him and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. They are unfair to the Yoruba because everybody is thinking that because they represent the Yoruba, all the things against the race, they would address them. But they are quiet on them all. “There are killings right and left, but they are quiet. They are quiet on the issue of revenue allocation. Even the case of local government under this restructuring, Tinubu took Obasanjo to court, it is part of restructuring programme and the man who handled the case in court was Osinbajo. “They won the case at the Supreme Court. Under what principle did they take the then President Obasanjo to court? They sold out and the same Osinbajo, who took Obasanjo to court for not following the federal system, is now saying he does not understand what the federal system means”. https://dkmngr.com/2019-tinubu-made-a-foolish-mistake-with-buhari-yorubas-will-vote-atiku-afenifere/ |

It was said that a presidential source, who preferred not to be named, said the president did not endorse N30,000 as proposed by committee as being reported by some sections of the media. He said; “But the president’s speech at the event was immediately made available to the media and nowhere indicated that the president endorsed N30,000 Minimum wage. “It is not the duty of the president only to endorse a new national minimum wage. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the current administration was committed to eliminating corruption in the country. buhari https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/buhari-2.png?w=756&ssl=1 The President said his administration was not leaving any stone unturned in the battle against graft, while advising the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, to work with all relevant agencies to ensure full compliance with government directive on preference for locally produced goods and services. President Buhari spoke at the first day of a 2-day and conference awards night organised by National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA at the International Conference Centre, Abuja which began on Monday. President Buhari declared open the 2018 e-Nigeria international conference and exhibition, organised by NITDA. He was accompanied by former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu who was also the keynote speaker; Minister of Information, Adebayo Shittu; Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalong; among others. Buhari also charged NITDA to report any government agency that failed to comply with the new IT Clearance directive. President Buhar said, “All these are aimed at promoting the digital economy in an era of disruptive technology through effective regulations,” in the event monitored by DAILY POST. “Of particular note is NITDA’s initiative focused on the Registration of IT Contractors and Service Providers in collaboration with other regulatory bodies with special emphasis on competencies. “This will ensure the delivery of quality IT projects, as well as facilitate the development of indigenous IT companies in line with global best practices. ‘‘You may also recall the remark about NITDA’s efforts at enforcing Federal Government’s directive on ensuring that all ICT projects in the country are cleared by it before implementation. ‘‘This will ensure that government’s ICT procurements are transparent, aligned with government’s IT shared vision and policy, lead to cost savings through promotion of shared services, avoid duplication, ensure compatibility of IT systems and improve efficiency in government business, enforce the patronage of indigenous companies where capacity exists; and uphold the highest standards for service delivery. “In this administration’s efforts at ensuring full realisation of these objectives, a new Circular was issued in August this year, to reiterate this directive. ‘‘NITDA is expected to work with all relevant government agencies to ensure full compliance with this directive. Defaulters of IT Clearance among the public establishments are to be reported to government. ‘‘We are serious about fighting corruption. We must not fail in our quest to eliminate corruption in government businesses and in the wider society. “I understand that the agency worked with relevant stakeholders in developing the document. I continue to encourage the Agency to use its regulatory instruments in ensuring full socialisation and implementation of this document. “We emphasised the need for the public service to be highly competitive, innovative and digitally-enabled to deliver public services and effectively drive government programs and policies. “I note that NITDA and other relevant government agencies have taken this up by creating the enabling environment through the development of policies, frameworks, standards and guidelines. “I am aware that some of these regulatory instruments have been subjected to critical scrutiny and revision through a series of stakeholder engagements. “Efforts should be intensified at making them public as well as sensitising public servants and the general public about the value of these regulatory instruments. “The enforcement of the use of the policy on Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the impact they have made on the administration’s public financial management reforms.” READ MORE NEWS >>> https://dkmngr.com/im-committed-to-eliminating-corruption-buhari/ |
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and United Labour Congress (ULC) have suspended the planned nationwide strike. https://i1.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/1-NLC-election-650x400.jpg?resize=650%2C400&ssl=1 The industrial action was scheduled to commence 12am on Tuesday. The suspension was announced Monday night in Abuja after a closed door meeting of the Tripartite Committee on new minimum wage. NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, explained that the decision was reached after agreements and documents were signed. “Having reached this position and agreements signed, the proposed strike action is hereby suspended,” he said. Wabba, however, refused to disclose the exact figure agreed by the committee. He noted that the amount would only be made public after presentation of the report to President Muhammadu Buhari later in day at 4:15pm. DAILY POST gathered that the federal government eventually agreed to labour’s demand of N30,000 after union leaders made it clear that anything below that would lead to national shutdown. Chairman of the Tripartite Committee, Ama Pepple, expressed her excitement that their assignment had been concluded. “I am happy to report to you that we have concluded our assignment and we will submit our report to the President by 4.15pm on Tuesday. “We will reveal the figure at the presentation,” she assured. Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, also said a mutual agreement on the new minimum wage would be made public after a meeting with the president. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, hailed the resolution of the matter by all parties involved. He added that overriding interest of Nigerians prevailed at the meeting. https://dkmngr.com/new-minimum-wage-nlc-tuc-others-suspend-strike-buhari-to-announce-agreed-figure/ |

A second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed, has rubbished the attestation of results issued to President Muhammadu Buhari by the West. https://i0.wp.com/dkmngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/junaid-mohammed.jpg?w=1000&ssl=1 The fierce critic of the All Progressives Congress, APC, government described the presentation made to Buhari at the Presidential Villa as a charade which was staged by the President. In an interview with DAILY POST, Mohammed said Buhari started the charade about his certificate since 2015. He wondered why Buhari had to go to court in 2015 if his claims about his certificate were authentic. Mohammed stated that instead of going about “deceiving” Nigerians through WAEC, Buhari should have told Nigerians when he started schooling and when he finished. According to him, “Frankly speaking, I don’t know what they are trying to prove with people smiling and clapping when the certificate was presented to Buhari. “They are taking a lot of things and Nigerians for granted, I read that the certificate allegedly presented to Buhari carried the heading Ministry of Education, Katsina State, as at the Buhari took his school certificate examination it was Ministry of Education for Northern Nigeria so I don’t know how you can now kick that backward. “If what they alleged against him was true why did he bother to go to court to defend himself and since the matter was still in court why now go to Ghana and ask somebody to come and present him with a testimonial and nothing was said about some papers taken, whether he passed or failed nobody knows, because woodwork and mathematics what he scored nobody knows. “If indeed he has gone to secondary school like he had said, all he needed was a testimonial stating that he was in Katsina provincial college between 19 this to 19 that, a testimonial that he had gone through the chain of secondary school. “Secondly, if that was the case which I believe, why was he looking for it and had to go to court prior to 2015 claiming that what he was doing was truthful when there was nothing truthful about it. And if one or two subjects were not indicated, it means out of the eight subjects he was supposed to have passed to be enlisted, he passed only six so I think it will be fair for him and the country to come out and say I was in secondary school from this year to this year and penultimate to my communication, I wrote the following subjects and this was my results and that ends the story instead of them going about enriching themselves to lie to the locals, the country and Nigerians. “I have said it a couple of times that Buhari does not have to prove that he passed GCE school certificate but what he has to prove is that he passed through education from this year to this year and that is enough to clear him of all these allegations. “Absolutely, it’s a charade which started before 2015, he can’t be the only person who had gone to school but did not pass some of his papers but he should tell the people the truth because what we want to know is the sincerity of the man we have chosen to be our leader and that is the end of the story.” https://dkmngr.com/waec-how-buhari-started-deceiving-nigerians-about-his-certificate-since-2015-junaid-mohammed/ |
