PoliticsRe: NURTW: MC Oluomo, Istijaba Factions Engage In Bloody Clashes by treesun: 8:25pm On Apr 24, 2022
ogododo:
Commuters residing in some parts of Lagos ranging from Fagba, Mushin, Ayobo, Ekoro, Oke-Odo, Meiran/Ijaye and Abule-Egba to mention but a few now hold their hearts in their hands as unexpected clashes may erupt unexpectedly.

This has been so for some time but aggravated in April as there have been consistent shootings which has affected economic, vehicular and human activities. People now go about in fear of the unknown.

Residents of the affected areas claimed that there were pockets of criminal activities ranging from stealing, theft, pick pocketing and vandalisation of property as hoodlums have taken advantage of the ongoing clashes between the loyalists of the suspended Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW, Lagos State, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo and Lagos State Chairman, Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria TOOAN, Alhaji Azees Abiola popularly known as Istijaba over the management of various tricycle parks in the state,

The clashes assumed another dimension Sunday as there were shootings at different times of the day in Ekoro, Kola, Mosalasi, Command, Ajasa, Meiran and Abule-Egba to mention but a few as commuters and residents scampered for safety while activities in the areas were paralysed for hours.

Eye witnesses’ account said property worth Millions of Naira were destroyed, stolen and snatched.

It was gathered that about 30 commercial vehicles were damaged by the warring parties.

While this lasted, commuters were stranded at various bus-stops as transporters have hurriedly closed down their business for safety of their vehicles.

Narrating the situation on Sunday, a transporter at Meiran Samuel Benedict said the fight began on Saturday evening when some loyalists took to tricycle parks to sack the existing park managers amidst intimidations.

According to him, the constant clashes in the area have resulted in hoodlums having their field day by extorting and harassing the transporters. ’Istijaba’s faction collects N800 daily as stipulated by TOOAN while MC Oluomo’s faction has no specific fee as they collect their daily fee based on their mood although their daily fee is not less than N2,100, sometimes they collect even more and failure to comply may amount to harassment.

A resident of Abule-Egba Bunmi Awodehin said the constant clashes have generated tension around the area as nobody knows what happened next. ‘’I am planning to relocate my business from the area because I am tired of gunshots all the time,’’ she said.

Recalled that last Friday, there were pockets of violence around Ekoro, Agbele, Ile-Iwe and Abule-Egba axis which paralysed commercial and vehicular activities when some of the loyalists engaged in gunshots.

Similarlly, Ayobo area of Lagos witnessed violent clashes on Wednesday when the warring parties engaged in forceful taking over of tricycle parks. At press time, residents of the affected areas were living in fear although Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin has assured residents to go about their businesses peaceably. It was gathered that the clashes have led to increase in fares as some area boys have hijacked the situation to cause increase in fares.

Efforts to reach Alhaji Akinsanya were unsuccessful as calls to his cell phones were left unattended to,

However, Istijaba said so far, he lost property worth over N80m to the clashes.

‘’Over 20 vehicles including cars, buses and tricycles were destroyed on Sunday between Abule-Egba and Oshodi while Millions of Naira were carted away when the rival group attacked my pump station on AIT Road, Agbado-Ijaiye area.

‘’While the attack on my pump station took place over the weekend, the rival group went to the house of one of my loyalists on Friday night and stabbed him severally while they traced another of my loyalists to Ifo, Ogun State and hacked him to death,’’ he said.

He did not mention whether the matter was incidented with the Police.

Earlier, Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin said Policemen have been deployed t strategic places.

The leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has appealed to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to sustain the peaceful coexistence between the union and state government.

The NURTW National President, Mr Tajudeen Baruwa, in a statement on Friday, thanked the governor for the support he had been giving the union over the years.

“The body’s national leadership appealed to governor Sanwo-Olu, to allow the existing harmonious relationship between NURTW and Lagos State Government to continue and that it will be extended to the newly appointed officers of the union,’ he said.

The president said that the union had inaugurated a nine-man caretaker committee to oversee and coordinate operations of the union across Lagos state.

He said the committee was constituted following the dissolution of the State Administrative Council (SAC).

Baruwa said the caretaker committee was set up to allow for continuity in the administration of the transport activities.

The president added that the move was to ensure that members of the union continued to support the government’s master plan for transport development.

“The nine-man caretaker committee will be led by Mr Fatai Adeshina, a stakeholder in the transportation sector, and the committee will operate for next three months as stipulated in the union’s constitution.

“Other members of the committee are Mr Sunday Yusuf, Abraham Onifade, Jamiu Erinfolami, Ismaila Ojora, Lekan Ariyibi, Murtala Lawal, Taiwo Azeez while Kayode Agbeyangi would serve as the secretary,” he said.

Baruwa said that members of the committee were carefully selected to ensure sanity in the transportation sector.

“The union knows that they will effectively manage affairs of Lagos chapter after SAC dissolution, which was done to bring sanity to the union’s operation across the metropolis,” he said.

The Lagos state government recently appointed an ex-chairman of the state’s chapter of NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly called MC Oluomo, as the chairman of its Parks Management Committee.

A former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, was appointed as the Liaison Officer between the government and the committee.

iwaeda:
The public fight among transport unions in Lagos State resumed today.

DAILY POST gathered that gunshots were heard Friday morning at Meiran – Ijaiye axis and Ekoro road in the Abule-Egba area.

The battle involves the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN).

The rivals are loyalists of suspended Lagos NURTW Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya a.k.a. MC Oluomo, and Istijaba.

Real name Azeez Abiola, Istijaba is the State Chairman of TOOAN.

The leaders have been at loggerheads in recent years over personal and union issues.

The matter has now degenerated with the open use of charms, guns, machetes and other weapons.

The Lagos State Police Command has deployed operatives to the scene and assured residents of safety.

Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin said clashes are no longer ongoing at Ekoro Road and Oke-Odo.

”Men of nearby divisions and the RRS are fully on ground, and the areas are absolutely calm”, the spokesman tweeted.

Last week, rival unionists clashed between Fagba and Abule Egba. Lagos regularly witnesses such clashes despite the government’s vow to forestall reoccurrences

Easyincome24:
This book right here made our childhood days awesome.

Teachers then ensured we commit it to memory even if one couldn't pronounce or identify each word for word.

As I try to reminisce about this book. I could aptly see how our culture was portrayed in the book usually a one in a million for primary three pupils.

Our education standard was still something to reckon with back then.

Try to read between the lines, you will understand that a family is a unit that is very important in a community.

If a home fails to bring up their children uprightly, it's sure that the society will be wrecked.

Try to revisit all these books used way back in the 80's and 90's you will understand why values should be taught from homes before expecting teachers and government to emulate same.

My love for this book and the characters knows no bounds.

PoliticsFelix Morka On APC N100m Form: 'Nigerians Live Expensive Lifestyles' by treesun(op): 2:48pm On Apr 21, 2022
The All Progressives Congress has given reasons for the prices placed on its Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

The PUNCH had reported that APC would commence the sales of the forms to aspirants in the forthcoming 2023 general election on Saturday.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, who announced the decision, said that the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for 2023 presidential and governorship aspirants would be sold at N100 million and N50 million respectively.

While appearing on a Channels Television programme on Wednesday night, Morka explained that the price tags placed on the forms were “justifiable”.

According to him, people earn legitimately in Nigeria and live opulent lifestyles.

He said, “Exorbitant for those who aspire for the highest office in Nigeria! Yes, I guess people may ask that legitimate questions around that. But don’t forget that some of the most special groups of citizens were granted high consideration. Youths between 25 and 40 are granted 50 per cent discount for all positions.

“We live in a country where people live opulent lifestyles and make legitimate money.”

Asked if APC is a party for the rich, he replied, “It is not for the rich.

“Economically, things are not perfect. They are not perfect anywhere. Do you have a country where the economy is perfect? Is it the United States or the United Kingdom?

“We should make decisions that reflect our situation. The party thinks that the values placed on these forms are justified.”

According to him, aspirants for senatorial positions would pay N20 million for the forms, House of Representatives, N10 million and House of Assembly aspirants N2 million.

Morka said the party’s NEC had approved May 30 and June 1, for its special convention for its 2023 presidential primary election and May 18 for its governorship primary.

He said that forms for the party’s female aspirants and persons with disability would be free for any elective positions in the coming 2023 general elections.

The APC spokesperson added that youths between the age of 25 and 40 years would have to purchase the forms at a discount of 50 per cent.

A yet-to-be-identified driver has crushed an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Jamiu Issa, to death in the Lekki-Ajah area of the state.

A statement by the spokesperson for the agency, Olumide Filade, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Wednesday.

Filade said the driver was driving against traffic when he rammed into Issa, who wanted to apprehend him for the traffic offense.

He added that Isa was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The statement read, “The driver of a green Toyota Sienna vehicle, with number plate, FST 901 AR, knocked down and run over a LASTMA official, Jamiu Issa, who was later confirmed dead, on April 19, 2022.

“The late Issa was said to have approached and accosted the Sienna vehicle driver who was driving against the direction of flow of traffic, facing oncoming vehicles from Chevron towards the Conservation Toll Plaza.

“It was reported that Issa was knocked down and run over by the traffic law offender. Issa’s colleague at the scene of the event quickly put a call through to the zonal head while some good Samaritans/eyewitnesses pursued the escaping Sienna driver to the Chevron Waterfront area where he was eventually apprehended and taken first to Ilasan police station, and eventually to Ajiwe police station, under which jurisdiction the event happened for proper investigation.
“Also, according to other eyewitnesses’ accounts, the Sienna driver also knocked down another person while trying to escape from the scene before the driver was apprehended.

“At the same time that the above scenario was going on, the fatally injured Issa was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital where it was confirmed that he was brought in dead. His remains have been deposited at the morgue of same hospital.”

Filade said the General Manager, LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, commiserated with the family of the deceased officer, adding that those who refused all entreaties to desist from assaulting and injuring government officials, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Joylove2324:
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is currently at the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The President is joined by his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, other members of the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees and state governors.

The NEC meeting is the first the APC is holding after its much-anticipated National Convention held last month where the Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee was dissolved and new leadership was sworn in by the President.

Although the top agenda for Wednesday’s NEC meeting remains under wraps, the Party’s timetable of activities ahead of next year’s elections is believed to be top of the agenda.

This includes dates and prices for the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for all electoral offices including the Presidency, Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Representatives.

Also to be discussed is the mode of primaries the party would adopt in its primary elections holding next month, in accordance with the INEC timetable.
