President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to calls by Northern Elders Forum (NEF) to resign due to insecurity in Nigeria.
His spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the president does not wish to be drawn into the high-decibel show in the media.
“Publicity is the oxygen for politicians who have failed to connect with voters in a democracy”, a statement Wednesday night reads.
Shehu said the resignation call “is not a solution to the security problems facing the country”, noting that it built up to a worrisome level following decades of neglect.
“They told citizens to know what their government is doing to deal with this situation and for politicians to come to terms with the fact that it is beneficial to all.
“People don’t have to destroy what is there in a desperate quest to get power”, the presidency said.
In response to the attacks on Kaduna and Niger States axis, Shehu told the public that security agencies have realigned and reorganized ongoing operations.
He said the structures are being reinforced with land-based assets to increase the efficiency of the troops and intelligence is equally being reinforced.
The air defence system is being reinforced with newly-acquired jets and drones which assemblage and training for operators have been hastened to meet the current exigencies.
“The country is equally getting assurances of early delivery of equipment on order from manufacturers and the effort is ongoing to conclude other major procurements still in process.
“Only this morning, the government at a meeting of the cabinet approved the procurement of the largest ever single procurement of military vehicles.
“Similar major operations are going in the South-East and the South-South where the economic life wire of the nation and electricity transmission lines are currently being secured from saboteurs.”
The presidency accused “sponsored saboteurs” of aiming to show that the government cannot provide power by sabotaging equipment at switches and other vital points.
“They will not succeed. The public knows who is who, and who has done what in our country’s governance”, the statement added. https://dailypost.ng/2022/04/13/nigerias-insecurity-i-wont-resign-saboteurs-after-my-govt-buhari-to-northern-elders/

Politics › Kaduna Most Hit As Attacks On Power Plants, Rail, Airports Peak by treesun(op): 10:36am On Apr 13, 2022 |
• Kaduna experienced five train attacks, two airport attacks within three years – Report • Relations of kidnapped train victims give FG 72-hour ultimatum • Military arrests security agents taking ransom to bandits in Kaduna, foil terrorists attack • HURIWA knocks Buhari over failure to rescue abducted Kaduna victimsPower and rail infrastructure are the most attacked assets in Nigeria in the last three years. This was disclosed in a report by a socioeconomic research firm, SBM intelligence, yesterday, titled: ‘Attacks on infrastructure in Nigeria.’
According to the report, an overwhelming majority of attacks on infrastructural installations since 2019 by non-state actors occurred in the North.
The report comes as the Federal Government blamed last weekend’s national grid collapse on an act of vandalism on a transmission tower on the Odukpani-Ikot Ekpene 330KV double circuit transmission.
The research firm identified 25 attacks on infrastructure in the country between May 2019 and March 2022 across the country, which listed 19 of the attacks in the North and six in the South.
The report revealed that from Q3, 2019 to Q1, 2022, power generation plants suffered six attacks in Borno State alone.
In the Northwest, Kaduna State has experienced five train attacks and two airport attacks within the same period. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has also experienced a train attack at the Bwari area during the same period.
Other states that experienced an attack on its rail infrastructure within the same period are Niger and Ogun, while the data for the South-South region revealed attacks in a factory in Edo State and pipeline attacks in Bayelsa, Delta and Akwa Ibom states.
There were only two attacks on infrastructure in the Southwest within the period under review. They are the February 2022 attack on a rail line in Ogun and an attack on the Dangote refinery at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, in March by hoodlums. There were zero attacks on infrastructures in the Southeast region within the period under review.
Last month, terrorists attacked a Kaduna-bound train after using explosives to blow up the rail tracks, forcing the train to stop. Nine people died in the attack, others sustained injuries and the gunmen abducted over 100 people.
IRKED by what they claim as nonchalant attitude of government towards the plight of the train victims two weeks after the incident, relatives have handed down 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government to ensure the release of their loved ones still in captivity.
Giving the ultimatum on Monday night, they said since the incident, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) was yet to reach out to them.
Dr. Abdulfatai Jimoh, who spoke on behalf of the victims’ families, said government should ensure that their beloved ones are rescued from captivity unhurt.
He said: “It is better that the government goes into negotiation with the terrorists as they have demanded in a recent viral video, so as to secure the release of our loved ones.”
This, he maintained was not out of place, since the government seemed incapacitated to protect the lives and property of citizens.
“This incident happened on March 28, a day or two after, most of us had communication with our relatives. The kidnappers said that we should be ready that they are going to contact us again.
“But we have not heard any communication from them since then. Since this incident happened, we expected that by now, the government, NRC and the Federal Ministry of Transportation should have reached out to us and tell us what effort they are making to rescue our loved ones unhurt.
“But while expecting telephone calls from the abductors as they promised, we were traumatised to see our loved ones being paraded in a video released by the terrorists. They made it very clear that they want to discuss with the government; that they have something with the government.
“We don’t know what they want from the government. But it’s now an opportunity and a window for the government to rescue our loved ones by opening a channel of communication with them (terrorists). This is not out of place. It is done anywhere in the world. We don’t know what is between them, but it is something that can be resolved in the interest of the lives of citizens. A life is very sacred, not to talk of more than a hundred.
“We have been in serious anguish in the past 15 days. Many of us have not been sleeping. We are like living corpses. We have decided collectively that we are giving the government 72 hours to do everything that’s necessary to rescue our loved ones,” he said.
MEANWHILE, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has knocked President Muhammadu Buhari and the security agencies over their collective failure to secure the release of the over 100 kidnapped victims of the Kaduna-Abuja train.
HURIWA, in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, reminded the government that its primary duty is the protection of life and property of citizens, according to Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The group said it was utterly disappointing that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and a retired general has failed to secure Nigerians, let alone rescue those abducted by kidnappers.
On Monday, multiple sources explained that the terrorists in their ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government were demanding prisoners’ exchange.
“The terrorists had last week released one of their hostages, the Managing Director, Bank of Agriculture, Alwan Hassan, whose family members reportedly paid ransom. In a video showing the victim in their midst, the gunmen said the government knew what they wanted and threatened to kill the remaining hostages if their demands were not met.
“It is shameful that the kidnapped victims of Kaduna-Abuja train attack are still not rescued by the Nigerian Army, Air Force and other security agencies, who have equally failed at their responsibilities like their Commander-in-Chief.
“HURIWA demands quick action by the government and security agencies to free all hostages languishing in the different camps of terrorists without any further waste of time.”
HOWEVER, the Nigerian Armed Forces have made a major burst in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the country. The joint troops have intercepted N60 million being taken to criminals as ransom for the freedom of captives. Shockingly, some of the couriers nabbed are operatives of yet-to-be-disclosed security agencies.
The military, in intelligence-driven operations, also rescued kidnapped victims including women and children. The assault conducted by a Nigerian Army squadron and Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Forces took out a number of the bandits.
The contingent is of the 271 NAF in Birnin Gwari and Army Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gwaska, Kaduna.
“N60 million in cash, petroleum products and sophisticated weapons were recovered during the operations”, an operative told newsmen yesterday.
“We will refer the case of the arrested couriers, who have identifications with security agencies, to the Department of State Service (DSS) and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for further investigation.”
Troops also recovered vehicles, AK-47 rifles, magazines, various kinds of ammunition and mobile phones.
It was gathered that the DIA alerted the DSS and the military that some persons were to move questionable funds through Kaduna. “After the hint, the DSS and the military deployed Special Forces to the road. The suspects were caught and the hostages rescued,” a source said.
It is unclear if the N60 million intercepted was from a single operation or if the victims were part of those abducted after the March 28 deadly train attack.
Also, spokesman of the Kaduna State police command, ASP Muhammed Jalige, yesterday disclosed that a joint operation of the army, navy and police have foiled the attack by terrorists in Kaduna, killing one of the terrorists, while others fled with bullet wounds.
Acting on information of the invasion by terrorists in Akwando village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna, security operatives stormed the area and engaged the bandits in a gun duel.
Jalige said that the joint security forces “at about 4:00p.m. acted on information that some scrupulous elements with sophisticated weapons suspected to be bandits have invaded Akwando Village to ferment their usual carnage. On getting the information, the combined team of the operatives immediately came to the location to prevent the criminals from carrying out their nefarious mission.
“The criminal elements on sighting the operatives started firing, which the operatives returned with tactics and precision, and succeeded in neutralising one bandit and recovered from him an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of live ammunition, while the remaining bandits fled with bullet wounds.
“The body has been deposited at Kachia General Hospital as investigation and rigorous patrol is ongoing with a view to apprehending the fleeing bandits.” https://guardian.ng/news/kaduna-most-hit-as-attacks-on-power-plants-rail-airports-peak/

Politics › 2023: MURIC Knocks Osinbajo’s Declaration by treesun(op): 11:40am On Apr 12, 2022 |
The Muslim Rights Concern has described the declaration by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to contest the 2023 presidential election and succeed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as “backstabbing”. In a statement on Tuesday signed by MURIC Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola, the group also said the declaration was purely evangelical and in consonance with the directive of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Akintola, in the statement, titled, ‘Osinbajo’s declaration is RCCGisation of the polity – MURIC’, described the declaration as “unethical and purely evangelical”. “The fact that Tinubu declared on 22nd January 2022 when he met President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock makes Osinbajo’s declaration look like a stab in the back,” the statement read in part. It added, “The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday declared his intention to run for the post of president in the coming 2023 general elections. This declaration, to our mind, will not pass any ethical screening. It is purely evangelical. “As a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Osinbajo is simply carrying out his own part of the RCCG instruction dished out a few weeks ago on the creation of a political department in all parts of Nigeria. We see Osinbajo as the arrowhead of the RCCGisation of the Nigerian polity. His declaration must therefore be seen as a demonstration of his own loyalty and obedience to the directive which came from the RCCG headquarters. “But MURIC cannot keep quiet after Osinbajo’s declaration because it is not in consonance with our agenda for the South West. We have never hidden this agenda from public view as it was made public as far back as February 2021 when we declared our preference for a Yoruba Muslim president. “Osinbajo’s declaration presupposes that Yoruba Christians are born to rule. It gives the provocative impression that Yoruba Muslims are ‘children of slaves’ (a la Ishmael and Isaac storyline) who should never taste power. As we have argued in earlier press statements, all the four Yorubas who have been in Aso Rock were Christians: Olusegun Obasanjo, Earnest Shonekan, Oladipo Diya, and the incumbent vice president Yemi Osinbajo. “If Osinbajo is basking in the born-to-rule syndrome of the RCCG, he should remember that a Muslim, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, brought him to limelight when he served under him as a commissioner in his cabinet. No matter how much they try to rewrite history, nobody can wish that fact away. The same Tinubu brought up your name ab initio in connection with his current position in Aso Rock. “If the above is true (and it is), the fact that Tinubu declared on 22nd January 2022 when he met President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock makes Osinbajo’s declaration look like a stab in the back. The vice president cannot claim to be unaware of what even a three-month-old baby knows already. Or is this how to repay goodness and mentorship? There is something immoral about Osinbajo’s declaration. It stands in contradistinction to a cardinal Yoruba concept, the ‘omoluabi’ concept. . It is absolutely ‘unomoluabi’. “Even the RCCG angle now becomes more interesting. Osinbajo’s declaration comes across as pure evangelisation, particularly in view of the declaration of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) directing all its parishes to open political offices in support of its members seeking political posts. The proselytization of the presidency by no other person than the vice president himself is an unprecedented and dangerous development. No high-level candidate in a general election has ever done it in this country. “Osinbajo’s political party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) should watch it. Nobody should underrate the perspicacity of Nigerian Muslims. We will reject any party that promotes Redeemisation by forcing an RCCG pastor on Muslim electorates. MURIC is not in alliance with any political party. It is already certain that APC will lose the votes of Yoruba Muslims if it fields an RCCG pastor. We need no rocket science to know that.” https://punchng.com/2023-osinbajos-declaration-a-backstabbing-says-muric/ |

The Federal Government spends about N12 billion on the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programmes (NHGSFP) monthly under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (MHADMSD).
Dr Umar Bindir, National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) of the Ministry stated this on Monday.
Bindir disclosed this at a two-day stakeholders consultative workshop on the development of a national policy for NHGSFP in Abuja.
He underscored the need for the country to have a national policy on school feeding programme to ensure sustainability.
According to him, the school feeding programme is very expensive as over 10 million children are fed at the rate of N100 meal per child as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that the programme was a continuation of deliberate strategies of the NSIP to institutionalise the clusters.
“Today we are focusing on the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme with the support of the World Food Programme (WFP) to develop an inclusive policy for NHGSFP.
“This is to ensure that it is sustainable, measurable and highly impactful as directed by Mr President.
“As we speak we are feeding an average of 10 million children with the potential of that number increasing to 12 million probably in the next few weeks or months.
“Based on the impact of the programme – attracting children to school, ensuring the children are healthy, the children of the poor and vulnerable attending school longer it is necessary that the programme is sustained,’’ he said.
In his remarks, Mr Kim Do-Hwan, Head, Capacity Strengthening and Policy Coherence, UN World Food Program, said the objective of the workshop was to engage critical stakeholders, who would jointly identify and agree on key components of a national school feeding policy.
Do-Hwan said that the policy development process would take into account broad considerations that would benefit the NHGSFP as it was being implemented across the country.
He further said that the policy would serve as a foundation for the success and sustainability of the NHGSFP.
“It will remain as a guiding document that ensures continued investment from national and sub-national stakeholders beyond any singular political dispensation.
“The NHGSFP is a key pathway for the government of Nigeria to achieve one of its own objectives to advance progress towards the Sustainability Development Goal (SDG 2) on zero hunger.
“This aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.’’
He, therefore, assured UNWFP’s commitment to supporting the achievement of SDG 2 in the country through effective partnerships, knowledge sharing and capacity strengthening.
Also speaking, one of the participants, Dr Onallo Akpa, Director–General, Poultry Association of Nigeria, said that the essence of the programme was to ensure that the children have nutritious meal.
Akpa said that the school feeding programme encouraged academic and community development, hence the need for sustainability.
“We are here to discuss on how to develop a framework that will be compassing for the entire country in developing the school feeding programme.
“As poultry managers, the essence is to see how we can mobilise our members into supplying the needed quantity of eggs into the school feeding programme,’’ he said. https://guardian.ng/news/fg-spends-n12bn-on-school-feeding-monthly-national-coordinator/

Politics › Re: Many Injured As ‘MC Oluomo’ Loyalists, NURTW Clash In Lagos by treesun: 7:33pm On Apr 11, 2022 |
Omooba77: Many people were reportedly injured on Monday, in Fagba area of Lagos, during a clash involving some loyalists of the newly appointed Chairman, Lagos Parks And Garages Committee Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as ‘MC Oluomo’ and National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW, members.
The incident reportedly occurred in a bid by the loyalists of the newly appointed chairman to officially take over the parks from NURTW but this was met with resistance by those who were previously in-charge of the areas.
According to eyewitnesses’ account, the incident which started in the morning was said to have continued uninterrupted, degenerated and extended to Ogba in Ifako/Ijaiye and Pen Cinema where a yet to be ascertained number of people were said to be injured.
An eye witness who gave his name as Mojere Ope said the crisis was noticed a few days ago when Akinsanya was announced as the Committee Chairman of the Parks and Garages.
“One of his loyalists from Yaya Abatan area was seen moving from garages to garages forcefully asking people to denounce their membership with NURTW and pitch their tent with ‘MC Oluomo’ but this came to its peak on Monday when some hoodlums arrived major parks simultaneously insisting that people denounce their membership with NURTW.
“This led to an altercation whereby those who refused to denounce their membership with NURTW were injured while others scampered for safety.
“Affected areas were Ogba, Ifako, Fagba and Pen Cinema where people including passers by were injured. ” He said.
Another eyewitness, Solagbade Alogba said the altercation met him at Pen Cinema when he was awaiting a bus to Agege, “I saw some hoodlums about 100 in number wielding dangerous weapons while people ran Helter skelter. They were shouting, ‘say MC, say Oluomo’.’ Though I don’t know their mission but took to my heels to avoid any eventuality.”
It was learnt that a victim of the incident simply identified as Samuel is currently under medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
It could not be ascertained if there were fatalities but some parks and garages in the affected areas were deserted.
At press time, Police operatives have arrived in the affected areas to bring the situation under control.
Recall that Alhaji Akinsanya was suspended as the Lagos State Chairman of NURTW but the state government later announced his appointment as Chairman of the state parks and garages.
Similarly, the Lagos State Chairman, Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN), Alhaji Azeez Abiola, popularly known as Istijabah had on Monday morning alerted security operatives including the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi of imminent danger in the state.
Both Istijabah and Akinsanya had been involved in a leadership tussle which had lasted for some months.
Alhaji Akinsanya could not be reached at press time.
The Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin did not respond to messages sent to his cell phones.

Christianity Etc › Why Deeper Life Embraced Use Of Television, Social Media, Others — Kumuyi by treesun(op): 10:13am On Apr 11, 2022 |
The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has explained that his ministry embraced the use of television, radio, social media and other technological inventions for the propagation of the Gospel.
The octogenarian preacher lamented that ‘wicked people’ are using the provisions of technology to advance their agenda, hence, the church cannot continue ‘sleeping’ but must ‘wake up’ and use the same technology for Gospel’s sake.
The 80-year-old church leader spoke in a video uploaded on Sunday via Facebook by the Ekiti State chapter of the church.
In the five-minute and 16-second video, Kumuyi regrated that the church was a latecomer in taking advantage of technological tools.
“Why are you the latecomer, why are you the one to be the last to use all these things that the people are using to make the world worse, we are going to rise up.
“Anything at the disposal of the people that are doing evil, we are going to take it away from them and use it for the propagation of the gospel. Let your NO be changed to YES,” he declared.
Earlier, Kumuyi, whose church members were known to detest television, and other gadgets, said, “People are getting new methods and they are doing evil. These are the last days and evil is growing worse because people go beyond using their natural strengths, natural technology, they use telephones, they use the media, they use all these connections, the Zoom and all these things to expand the evil they are doing.
“If those messengers of Satan are using the present-day technology and they are expanding, how about you? You will use those things available; they are not only available for messengers who do evil, they are available for the people that are doing good. You will use them.
“The church has been asleep. When radio began some years ago, people didn’t understand how voices would be coming out of a radio, and so the church at that time said, ‘No, we cannot use radio, there is something there that is magical, that is demonic, voice coming out from just a gadget?’ The church said no. Then, the people of the world began to use the radio. Then the church woke up.
“When television came, somebody somewhere performing drama, they see him on the screen and then the church said, ‘This is evil, these are the last days, look at them, bringing pictures on the screen and whatever they are doing somewhere’. And the church said, ‘No, we are not going to use that’ but later they woke up and they are now using the television.
“But now the church is waking up and we are seeing that that thing (technology) is to spread the gospel, for the word of God gets everywhere. We will be wiser than the people of the world. The Lord will wake us up.”
Kumuyi, who had been criticised last September for using a private jet and limousine to a crusade in Abuja, said, “Some people, when the aeroplane came, some people said, ‘We are not doing to use aeroplane’ and they were riding on horses. The bicycle came and they said. ‘God has given us legs and if He has given us legs, why are we going to use bicycles?’
“Motorcycles came, car came and when the aeroplane came, they said, ‘God has given us the land; He has not given us the space and so all those people who are using aeroplane are worldly, are going to go to hell’. I am telling you what they said in those days but now, all those people, aeroplane has silenced them and now they can go anywhere.” https://punchng.com/why-deeper-life-embraced-use-of-television-social-media-others-kumuyi/

There’s a speculation that Nigerian police personnel Serving in Lagos state are being posted to various places far from their residence. and they try to work their postings back to where is favorable to them but it’s falling on deaf ears.
Eg someone living in Ikorodu is serving in Badagry , Ikeja serving in Epe, someone in mile 12 serving in Apapa etc. these proximity is not balanced. due to distance, For nursing mother’s , pregnant women, salary structure of the police and lack of barracks to house these police personnel etc .
some of them ( police officers) are in their 50’s who cannot put up with such stress. What about their salaries? Someone who’s earning less and paying more for transportation has a high tendency to be corrupt to leave comfortably.
I plead with the Nairaland family not to ignore or throw insults because they’re police Men let’s help them speak up these little things they go through can affect their duties while discharging them.
