Lanrelagboi: … Jandor desperate and frustrated over imminent failure in quest for guber ticket
My attention has been drawn to a malicious statement by Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor) claiming that I collected N100 million from Bola Tinubu.
Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have dignified a man whose life has been shrouded in controversy with an answer, but for the benefit of the general public and the undiscerning members of the movement who have been blindfolded by the shenanigans of a man whose dubious lifestyle of scavenging for funds is known to the people For the records, I, Hon. Prince Sunday Ajayi, withdrew from the activities of Lagos4Lagos because of the questionable character and draconian lifestyle of Jandor. For someone to accuse me of collecting money from a man I have not spoken to or interacted with in the last 3 years shows the level of insanity and shallowness of a confused human being. I am indeed grateful that I saw this coming as I was warned severally that Jandor had an ugly past which he has guarded jealously and usually fights anyone who would oppose his style and actions.
I dare Jandor to show proof of receipt of such transaction between me and Bola Tinubu, failure upon which I will have no choice but to institute a legal action against him. For clarity, Jandor’s latest action is borne out of the frustration he has met in his fruitless quest to get a PDP ticket that was already placed out of his reach from the word go. It would be interesting for the world to see the face of a liar called Jandor. It’s better for him to come out clean on how his arrogant lifestyle has led 70% percent of the movement to leave Lagos4Lagos. He is a complete fraud that the Lagos PDP should be careful of if they intend to get any credibility.
Signed

Politics › Buhari Is One Of Our Oppressors, Until He Leaves, Nigeria Won’t Know Peace – Afe by treesun(op): 12:33pm On Apr 20, 2022 |
Leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, recently clocked 94. He speaks with KAYODE OYERO on sundry national issues including the insecurity bedevilling Nigeria, the 2023 presidential election, and the pardon granted to some popular fraud convicts by the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) The National Council of State recently endorsed the pardon of former governors of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye; and Taraba State, Jolly Nyame; as well as 157 other convicts following the recommendation of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy. What do you make of this? I will start by saying anybody who is a rogue, the moment you say you are now in the APC (All Progressives Congress), you are now a saint. That is the way they have been doing. Even in the (Buhari) cabinet now, (ex-President Goodluck) Jonathan prosecuted (then governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre) Sylva, collected 48 houses from him for corruption, the press wrote this, but Buhari pardoned Sylva and returned all his properties to him and made him a minister with the lawyer that prosecuted him for fraud, Festus Keyamo, who was the lawyer of the EFCC. Buhari did all of that and now he is still talking nonsense that he still wants to fight corruption. What corruption is he fighting? The case of (Adams) Oshiomhole is also still fresh. Anybody who joins the APC becomes a saint automatically even if you are a rogue. There are many instances that the Fourth Estate of the Realm should remind our people in case they forget. The emphasis there is that this is the President who said he had zero tolerance for corruption but now he is doing the exact opposite. Nigeria is facing what can be said to be its worst security challenge in over six decades. What is the solution to this malaise? It is a leadership problem. When they kill innocent citizens, Buhari will come and say, ‘I have beefed up security, I have given the military marching order’. Marching order for what? For those he doesn’t want to get killed? When we said Fulani herdsmen were the people terrorising us, they said who told us they were Fulani? When they now know that they are Fulani, they said they are Fulani from abroad, and that it is from abroad that they entered. But how did they enter? What about the security of the country? Is Buhari not the one in charge of security? Until this man (Buhari) leaves that place, there won’t be peace. I challenge Lai Mohammed to charge me for fake news. Other people are saying he (Buhari) should resign but he should have gone five years ago. I have said it and I am expecting them to come and arrest me. He has to leave immediately; he is colluding with the people who are oppressing us and all the facts are there before him and he is doing nothing. He is negotiating with bandits and those who said they wanted to leave Nigeria, he has not called them for discussions. He should stop deceiving us; he is part of those oppressing us and until he leaves we won’t get peace. The solution now is for him to leave, form a national government for us to create a brand new constitution to create an enabling environment before you can talk of any election. To do any election without changing this constitution is an exercise in futility. Even the election they want to do now is a change of the personnel and nothing more. There are over 30 aspirants from the main parties, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, jostling to become Nigeria’s President in 2023. Do you think the Presidency should be zoned to the South or to the North? Right now, is there a country for them to be President of? There must be one country first before you can talk of an election. Is this the country Jonathan handed over to Buhari? Whether a Southern or a Northern candidate, first, let us get everyone united and we can’t get everyone united until we change this constitution. Are you safe? Talk about security. W When electoral officers, soldiers, policemen are being shot dead, when I can’t travel to Maiduguri safely. And members of the cabinet keep pretending as if they don’t know these problems. Up until now, Lai Mohammed will tell you, ‘We have done our best’. Before, he said it was Jonathan who spent the security money. For seven years now, all the money allocated to security under Buhari, what have been the results? Buhari is the Commander-In-Chief and his duty is to assure us of our safety and protect us but he is a Commander-In-Chief who is negotiating with criminals. All those who are clamouring for Presidency, is it Jagaban (Bola Tinubu), is it (Vice President Yemi) Osinbajo, they should assure us of our safety first, that the country is safe, that we are one, then we talk of who is going to be President. They should forget about their ambition now until there is safety. Nobody can go to the South-East now and we are all living in denial. You mentioned Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu who are two top APC presidential aspirants from the South-West geopolitical zone. Are you supporting any South-West aspirant? How can I back a South-West candidate? That is not equity. Has (ex-President Olusegun) Obasanjo not done eight years? Has Osinbajo not done eight years as VP? Has Jonathan not done five years as President? Is the South-East not part of Nigeria? We want peace and equity. It is turn of the South-East, I don’t talk ambiguously. It is the South-East that the thing must go. There is no doubt about that. But my anxiety now is that before we say, South-East, have we got a country? Let us settle that before we say South-East is the answer. I am not ambivalent about it at all. You clocked 94 years this April. How do you feel living this long? Our lives are in the hands of God and I won’t commit suicide if God decides that He is not ready to take me home. For allowing me to live 94 years, I am very grateful to God. If God adds to my years, I won’t reject it, all my mates are gone but I am 94. I am grateful to God. Praise God. Do you have any regret at 94 having being involved in nation-building before Nigeria’s independence and being a disciple of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo? It is sad that Nigeria is still like this because this is not the Nigeria that I fought for. And we have no reason to be in this position because this is not the foundation that Awolowo laid in the Western Region. If we had continued on the foundation without the interruption of the military, we would have gone very far. It is unfortunate for us. We are struggling when there is no need. https://punchng.com/buhari-is-one-of-our-oppressors-until-he-leaves-nigeria-wont-know-peace-afenifere-leader-adebanjo/ |
Politics › Finally, Buhari Shipwrecks The Anti-Corruption War - Punch Editorial by treesun(op): 12:52am On Apr 20, 2022 |
THE veil of pretence worn by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as an anti-corruption crusader has been lifted. The pardon granted to two ex-governors among 157 others in the exercise of the prerogative of mercy last week capped seven years of an unconvincing ‘war on corruption.’ With this, Buhari’s dreadful legacy is now complete: failure to tame insecurity and revitalise the economy conflates with the triumph of graft.
With his nonfeasance on all fronts, Nigeria is crumbling on Buhari’s watch. Untamed, corruption will help hasten the country’s meltdown. The people themselves will have to take action to push back against graft.
Though the regime’s commitment to fighting graft had long floundered, the pardon granted to Joshua Dariye and to Jolly Nyame, ex-governors of Plateau and Taraba states respectively 1999-2007, after some years into their separate jail terms for graft, still shocked many. It was devastating; precisely because after two decades of an on-off anti-corruption drive, they were the only two highly politically exposed persons that the weakened criminal justice system had been able to put behind bars.
The process was typically Machiavellian, following the trajectory of the law but battering its spirit. The two ex-governors were lumped with 157 others for pardon. The clemency was recommended as stipulated in the constitution by the advisory Council of State, after receiving the recommendations from the 12-member Presidential Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy chaired by the Attorney-General of the Federation. Expectedly, regime spokesmen will cite due process to justify the perfidious act.
But Nigerians and the outside world know that elite solidarity is at play: the Nigerian state has given up on the anti-corruption war regardless of rhetoric to the contrary. It is tragic.
Convicted for N1.16 billion and N1.6 billion fraud respectively, Dariye and Nyame were jailed 10 and 12 years respectively and their sentences separately confirmed by the Supreme Court. With the reprieve, the essential ingredient of deterrence is weakened.
Though the pardon was said to be on “compassionate grounds and on ill-health,” there are many among the 70,056 inmates in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services as of October 2021 equally deserving of such compassion. Some 50,822 inmates, representing 72.5 per cent of the total, are awaiting trial cases, some for many years.
The action sounds the death knell on Buhari’s discredited anti-corruption posture. For Nigeria, it is disastrous. Corruption is destroying the country. All forms – petty, grand, systemic and state capture – thrive. The Dariye-Nyame pardon fits into the “legal corruption” definition provided by the World Bank where “power is abused within the confines of the law” and the powerful use the law to protect their own.
Corruption, writes the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, “is the single greatest obstacle preventing Nigeria from achieving its enormous potential. It drains billions of dollars from the country’s economy, stymies development, and weakens the social contract between the government and its people.” NEITI estimates that between $15 billion and $18 billion leaves as illicit financial outflows yearly.
Elected and appointed public officials have stolen the country blind, ruined the economy, rendered 55 per cent of the youth jobless and made Nigeria the poverty capital of the world. While Egypt raised electricity power generation from 24,000 megawatts to 59,000MW to become Africa’s largest producer within a decade, Nigeria has spent over $10 billion in two decades to raise generating capacity from 3,000MW to only 12,000MW but can transmit just over 4,000MW. Most of the funds cannot be accounted for.
Of the 36 state governors 1999-2007, 33 were accused of defrauding their states. Several are still undergoing trial. The judicial system has been unable to convict most Politically Exposed Persons; some pronounced guilty by lower courts were set free by appellate courts. Hopes raised by the convictions of Dariye and Nyame that justice will nab the elite have been dashed. Impunity reigns and, according to the Socio-Economic Rights Project, “will continue as long as influential politicians escape justice for their crimes.”
First elected in 2015 on the twin promises to crush insecurity and corruption, Buhari began to sabotage the assault on graft from his first day in office by his nepotistic and sectional appointments and policies. Surrounding himself overwhelmingly with appointees from his ethnic, family, regional and sectarian cocoon, he lost the crucial buy-in from all other sections of the diverse polity needed to successfully fight the two wars. In a pluralistic country, sectionalism is the ultimate corruption; it guarantees failure in overcoming national threats.
The self-subversion has persisted. Persons accused of, or facing corruption trials/investigations, gained public office. Some have their cases dropped once they join the ruling party. A former chairman of the ruling party once publicly invited opponents to join them promising that their “sins would be forgiven.” Several individuals recently elected to lead the party, including the chairman, have long-running graft cases against them. A former governor of Gombe State had his N5 billion fraud trial discontinued after he stepped down from the contest for the Senate presidency in favour of the regime’s choice.
Buhari’s missteps include the confirmation debacle of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Undermined by the State Security Service, he was never confirmed and was eventually booted out. Buhari failed to coordinate or appoint a coordinator for the war on graft and looked on while agencies and the AGF squabbled publicly over asset disposal and prosecution. There has never been proper accountability over seized assets. Some of his ministers have pending cases with the anti-graft agencies. Recruitment scandals have been reported at the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and the Federal Inland Revenue Service with no strong action taken.
Nigeria’s is a classic case of “isomorphic mimicry,” where local institutions mimic similar institutions performing effectively in other jurisdictions, but fail to deliver their targeted outcomes. Thus, Nigeria has a slew of laws to combat graft and money-laundering; institutions such as the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission, the Code of Conduct Bureau, the Police Special Fraud Unit, and Financial Reporting Council, and the courts. They have failed to crush corruption.
In contrast, Singapore, with only the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau created under the Prevention of Corruption Act, is ranked fourth least corrupt nation in the world after Denmark, Finland and New Zealand. China’s National Supervision Commission has since 2018 successfully overseen the government’s anti-corruption drive where over 50,000 officials have been punished.
But Nigeria dropped five places to 154th out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index 2021. A notable cleric, Mathew Kukah, thundered: “Our politics is broken. Our economy is broken. Our energy system is broken. Our security system is broken. Our roads and rail are broken. Only corruption is alive and well.”
One likely effect of the pardon is to weaken morale in the anti-graft agencies and among their dedicated officers, as well as the upright ones among the judges. Despite supervisory compromise, the EFCC secured 2,220 convictions in 2021, 127.5 per cent higher than the 1,280 secured in 2019. It also recovered N152.86 billion and $386.22 million. On its part, the ICPC said it recovered N166.5 billion from corrupt persons and entities in the 18 months to December 2021.
They struggle against very difficult odds, hamstrung by an insincere, duplicitous regime, an ambivalent and sometimes allegedly obstructionist Office of the AGF and a National Assembly that visibly lacks commitment to the anti-graft campaign. They need encouragement.
What next? Betrayed by the political leadership, the legislature and often also by the judiciary, Nigerians need to step up peaceful agitation against graft using all legal means. Peaceful protests, recourse to the Freedom of Information Act, sit-ins at parliamentary premises and interrogation of elected officials at local, state and federal levels are legitimate weapons of ‘People Power.’
Between 2017 and 2019, thousands of Romanians marched across major cities and towns to protest the government’s laws pardoning corruption convicts and weakening penalties against abuse of power. The obnoxious laws were withdrawn and the protest movement spawned a renewed anti-corruption drive in the East European country. Similar popular protests since 2015 have been tracked by Carnegie in Guatemala, Iceland, Brazil, Lebanon, Malaysia, and South Africa. South Korea’s youths, through peaceful protests in 2017, forced the ouster, trial and conviction of President Park Geun-hye and others for corruption.
Nigeria’s labour movement, students, professional bodies and civil society groups and the mass media that heroically fought oppression under colonial and military rule should take up the fight, speak truth to power and hold officials accountable. Democracy is a participatory governance model; leaving it exclusively to politicians since 1999 has facilitated impunity, poverty, joblessness and unbridled corruption. The people should demand accountability and good governance.
The anti-graft agencies and upright judges should not despair, give up or compromise in the light of the treachery of the political class; they should continue to soldier on bravely, and answer to their consciences, their oath of office and the higher public good.
Section 15, sub-section 5 of the 1999 Constitution compels the Nigerian government to act; “The State shall abolish all corrupt practices and abuse of power.” It is the responsibility of all Nigerians to insist that Buhari and every other public official fulfil that constitutional mandate. https://punchng.com/finally-buhari-shipwrecks-the-anti-corruption-war/

A forensic expert, Dr Richard Somiari, has informed an Ikeja Coroner’s Court that one of the five hitherto unidentified victims of the November 1, 2021, Ikoyi building collapse has now been identified. The coroner is conducting an inquest into the circumstances leading to the death of victims that died when a 21-storey high-rise on Gerrard Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos collapsed last year. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Somiari, who is the Director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, appeared before the coroner on Friday to testify. Led in evidence by the counsel for the Lagos State Government, Mr Akin George, Somiari said he received news on his way to the inquest that a DNA match had been established for one out of the five unidentified deceased. “We received 57 unique samples. In disasters, there could be dismemberment and we may not have 57 bodies. “We got a total of 102 reference samples from all families that presented and still counting because we might still need some more samples. “There are three bodies that have generated DNA profiles but no reference profiles have matched those profiles. “In such a situation, we will invite additional family members or use of personal belongings like toothbrush to establish identity,” Somiari said. Somiari, however, said the process of identifying the remaining unknown deceased was ongoing and additional biological material would be used to identify the bodies. He noted that the likelihood of a DNA mismatch for all that died in the building collapse was very slim. The coroner, Mr Oyetade Komolafe, adjourned further proceedings till February 25. https://punchng.com/one-more-victim-of-ikoyi-building-collapse-identified-forensic-expert/ |

The United States Transportation Security Administration has appointed a Nigerian, Yemi Oshinnaiye, as its new Chief Information Officer. Oshinnaiye, who was the deputy CIO at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, was confirmed as TSA’s new permanent CIO. According to the Federal News Network, Oshinnaiye would assume office in May following the resignation of Russ Roberts, the outgoing CIO. Roberts, who had announced his retirement in December, had delayed it for a few months. However, he would hand over the baton to Oshinnaiye in early May. Oshinnaiye has been the deputy CIO at USCIS since March 2019, but worked at DHS previously from 2012 to 2017. During his tenure at USCIS, Oshinnaiye helped to head the plan to consolidate and improve how the agency made use of cloud services. https://punchng.com/us-agency-appoints-nigerias-yemi-oshinnaiye-chief-information-officer/ |

The GAC, the apex body within the state ruling political class of All Progressives Congress (APC) approved second term for Sanwo-Olu at its meeting this afternoon at State House, Marina.
With the APC governorship election primaries slated for May 27, the speculation on whether Sanwo-Olu will get a second term has become rife among the business and political elites in the state, especially members of the APC.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has not picked his nomination forms for the election apparently waiting for official endorsement of the party chieftains.
It would be recalled that his predecessor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode failed to secure a second term in office because he fell out of favour with the party structure and GAC members despite the popular sentiments that he performed very well enough in office to deserve a second term.

Politics › You Have Destroyed Nigeria - Kukah's 2022 Easter Message by treesun(op): 2:55pm On Apr 17, 2022 |
The Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has heavily criticised the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over insecurity, corruption and division in Nigeria.
Kukah made his complaints known in his Easter Message on Sunday titled, ‘To mend a broken nation: The Easter metaphor’.
According to the bishop, every aspect of life in Nigeria has been destroyed while corruption is enthroned.
He said, “Our dear country, Nigeria, still totters and wobbles as we screech towards a dangerous and avoidable canyon of dry bones.
“One would be tempted to ask, what is there to say about our tragic situation today that has not been said? Who is there to speak that has not spoken? Like the friends of Job, we stare at an imponderable tragedy as the nation unravels from all sides. The government has slid into hibernation mode.
“It is hard to know whether the problem is that those in power do not hear, see, feel, know, or just don’t care. Either way, from this crossroad, we must make a choice, to go forward, turn left or right or return home. None of these choices is easy, yet, guided by the light of the risen Christ, we can reclaim our country from its impending slide to anarchy.
“The challenge of fixing this broken nation is enormous and, as I have said, requires joint efforts. With everything literally broken down, our country has become one big emergency national hospital with full occupancy. Our individual hearts are broken. Our family dreams are broken. Homes are broken. Churches, Mosques, and infrastructure are broken. Our educational system is broken. Our children’s lives and future are broken. Our politics is broken. Our economy is broken. Our energy system is broken. Our security system is broken. Our Roads and Rails are broken. Only corruption is alive and well.” He also faulted amnesty granted to terrorists and former governors of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye; and Taraba State, Rev Jolly Nyame.
Kukah said, “We need to start thinking of a Nigeria beyond banditry and kidnapping and the endless circles of violence that have engulfed our communities and nation. We cannot continue to pretend that there are no religious undertones to the violence in the name of God that has given our religions a bad name.
“The way out is for the state to enforce the secular status of the Nigerian state so as to give citizens the necessary freedoms from the shackles of semi-feudal confusion over the status of religion and the state in a plural Democracy. We must be ready to embrace modernity and work out how to preserve our religions and cultures without turning religion into a tool for tyranny, exclusion, and oppression.
“I cannot be against a repentant sinner or criminals changing their ways. After all, the doors of forgiveness must always remain open. However, in this case, Nigerians have very little information as to the entire rehabilitation process. Have these terrorists felt the heat or have they seen the light or, is their repentance a mere strategic and tactical repositioning? So far, we have no evidence that these terrorists have been able to confront their victims not to talk of seeking forgiveness from them. Something is wrong.
“We see these terrorists adorned in our national colours in their green and white kaftans, trousers, and looking like heroes of the state! Are we to assume that they have become acknowledged models for Nigerian youth? Perhaps the next graduating set might be treated to Presidential handshakes, receptions at the villa with full national colours! https://punchng.com/youve-destroyed-nigeria-divided-nigerians-kukah-bombs-buhari/

shogsman: I'm in my early 30s, I've got a bsc in sociology, a master's degree in statistics and like a dozen other professional degrees in human resource management, gerentology, demography, financial risk management, oil and gas services, pmp and so on.
Infact I'm basically one of the most educated individuals I've met. The sad part is I've never made a cent off my educational qualifications. Heck I work in a totally different industry and make a good living which I'm definitely not going to trade for social work or psychology, so this past few days I get myself thinking what a waste of Time and resources that was, I literarily spent millions on my education, even relocating abroad to study but it was all a goddamn waste of time, all I got is a useless paper I'm never going to use.
My advice to young ones out there is to set your goals right and stupid untraditional ideas is better than no ideas. You don't necessarily have to pursue a degree to be okay in life. Continue to apply, your breakthrough will come! |
