The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has secretly filed fraudulent charges against late and ex Enugu State Chief Judge, Justice Professor I.A Umezulike. Official court documents revealed that the case between the Federal Government of Nigeria v Justice I.A Umezulike with SUIT NO. E/74c/2017 was formally struck out, and the defendant discharged. Umezulike However, few weeks after the burial of the great legal luminary, EFCC secretly appeared before the same Judge who struck out the case Justice A.O Onovo of the Enugu State High Court II seeking that the already struck out case be relisted for hearing. Justice A.O Onovo very much aware that the defendant is dead having attended his burial and valedictory court service accepted EFCC’s position and relisted the case for hearing for today the 28th of November 2018 in the apparent absence of the deceased. No law in existence allows for the prosecution of the dead. A dead man cannot, therefore, be a defendant in a suit. Section 36 (6)c of the 1999 constitution states anybody charged of any offence has the right to defend himself in person. It is apparent that a dead man cannot defend himself; however, EFCC counsel Wahaab Shitu Esq is said to have argued that the late Enugu State Chief Judge was served at his graveside so the court can carry on hearing in his absence and without representation. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/11/efcc-secretly-files-fraudulent-charges-against-deceased-enugu-cj/ |

A man in Thailand has married his pet cobra because he believes it to be his dead girlfriend. Warranan Sarasalin lost his girlfriend five years ago, and a new twist came into his life when he discovered a cobra resembling his late lover. This made him believe that the snake is his dead girlfriend reincarnated. Sarasalin believes in the Buddhist theory that people are reincarnated into animals after they die. He spends most of his time with the 10 foot long snake, watching TV together, sharing romantic picnics by the lake, playing board games and going to the gym. Sarasalin told Daily Mirror that he looks after the snake very well and “true love is true love”. He said he never stays away from the snake, and takes it everywhere he goes or even while he’s sleeping. He is well known in his Kanchanaburi neighbourhood because of his relationship with the Cobra. http://www.informationng.com/2016/11/man-marries-cobra-thinks-late-girlfriend.html

President Muhammadu Buhari will attend the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also known as COP-22, in Marrakech, Morocco, from November 14-16, 2016. President Buhari will participate in the official opening plenary on November 15 where he will deliver his national statement during the High Level Segment of COP 22. The Presidential address is expected to highlight, among other key issues, Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and policy actions aimed at tackling climate change through environmental sustainable efforts. President Buhari will also use the occasion of his speech to rally international support for the clean-up of Ogoniland in the Niger Delta and the resuscitation of the Lake Chad Basin. While in Marrakech, the President is scheduled to attend the Africa Day Commemoration at COP 22 with the theme, “Moving from Commitments to Action with Intended Nationally Determined Contributions and African Renewable Energy Initiative.” He will also attend the Summit of African Heads of State on the sidelines of the Climate Change conference. COP 22, which will be attended by representatives from 197 countries including world leaders, environment ministers, government officials as well as a wide range of representatives from civil society and the private sector, is the first meeting of State Parties since the entry into force of the landmark Paris Agreement on November 4, 2016. The legally binding international Agreement on climate change, among others, addresses issues of global warming, including its impact on food security and agriculture. It would be recalled that President Buhari signed the Paris Agreement on September 22, 2016 at the margins of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Buoyed by that commitment, the Nigerian delegation is optimistic that COP22 will provide a platform to promote and enhance delivery of the purpose-driven environmental sustainable agenda of the Federal Government. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/215227-buhari-heads-morocco-sunday.html? |
He told America exactly what he wanted to do. Don’t say you weren’t warned. If Donald Trump is elected the 45th president of the United States,(of which he has already) it won’t be because of his exhaustive policy platform. His agenda for the country was occasionally vague at best. But no one can pretend that Trump didn’t tell America exactly what he wanted to do on immigration. From the day he launched his campaign, immigration has been at the focus of his message and his appeal. His policies on the subject have always been a level more developed than everything else on his agenda. Should Trump win, he’ll arrive in office having spent more than a year under the tutelage of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who was an outspoken opponent of immigration (both legal and unauthorized) back when the rest of the Republican Party was still wrestling with reform. He’s been buoyed on the support of the unions representing Border Patrol officials and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents — who embraced him as the man who would throw off the policy fetters they’ve chafed under through the Obama administration. President Trump would not be able to deport all 11 million unauthorized immigrants from the United States, as he once promised to do. But during the campaign, he articulated a policy that could succeed in ramping up immigration enforcement to an extent we’ve never seen before — and that is certainly likely to put the fear of deportation into the hearts of millions of immigrants. The Trump administration would attempt to prevent anyone from crossing the border illegally at all, whether the border wall is real or virtual. The Trump administration would deport more people. He’d triple the US’s existing“deportation force,” which could hypothetically give the government capacity to deport up to 1.2 million people a year. The Trump administration would put any unauthorized immigrant in the US at risk of deportation. He’s delineated particular priorities for whom his agents would try to target first (although those “priorities” cover as many as 6 million of the 11 million unauthorized immigrants living here). But whether or not they are explicit priorities, unauthorized immigrants in the US would be at risk of deportation at any time. The Trump administration would make it harder for unauthorized immigrants to live and work in the US, encouraging “self-deportation.” Trump would push Congress to pass a bill requiring all employers in the US to check the legal status of their employees electronically — which would (in theory) dump 8 million unauthorized workers out of jobs and deprive their families of their income. The Trump administration would make it harder for immigrants to come to the US legally. The administration (again, with Congress’s help) would make it harder for American companies to get visas for immigrant workers. Individual immigrants would have to undergo an “extreme vetting” process — something Trump could do, at least in part, with or without Congress’ help. Unauthorized immigrants who left the US would have to wait three or 10 years (or be barred permanently) from applying to reenter legally. Even after that waiting period, they’d be competing with everyone else for fewer slots than are available for immigrants today. And people who’d lived in the US before without papers would be particularly likely to flunk an “extreme vetting” process, because they’d be particularly likely to stay in the US even after their visas expired. It’s an ambitious agenda — but it still might not be enough. Trump’s ultimate goal is to make (white) Americans feel safe from unauthorized immigration. That might be beyond any president’s power to do. http://www.vox.com/2016/11/9/13572030/donald-trump-immigration |
