PoliticsRe: Oluremi Tinubu For Governor (Lagos State) by trix1: 10:10am On Jan 04, 2013
CFCfan: After some self abnegation and immolation, I have come to the conclusion that Senator Oluremi Tinubu is the best person to occupy the Lagos state Governor's seat, come May 29, 2015.

Though she hasn't made significant contributions to Senate debates, her poise, charm, charity causes and her excellent political skills makes her frontrunner in d race to succeed the indefatigable Governor Fashola.

If she eventually decides to run for the office, be rest assured that She would become the first elected female governor in Nigeria. She would definitely continue from where Fashola stopped, ramping up the efforts to turn Lagos into the economic capital of Africa. The ACN machine is still a colossus in Lagos, nay the Southwest.
So you admit she hasn't contributed significantly to the senate... So Poise, charm and charity causes are enough to make her the best person? If someone that has made zero significant contribution to her current role is the best candidate for ACN, then I pity ACN..

Although I think you are just being sarcastic..

Why Yawning Is Contagious: You yawn to equalize the
pressure on your eardrums. This pressure change outside your eardrums unbalances other people's ear pressures, so they must yawn to even it out.
PoliticsRe: Bayelsa Crash - NDLF Blasts Navy by trix1: 10:58am On Dec 19, 2012
I was going to say every worker (even in private firms) usually has a right to company properties, (e.g borrowing official cars for private trips/weddings, using company restaurants for receptions, ) as long as there's prior approval, and its used sensibly..

But after reading the post below, its clear that we've over abused the privileged. I think the most annoying is seeing men in Nigerian army uniform opening and closing gates of private business establishments. even one of the yeye Nigerian musicians sef, don use am sing song say e get mopol as gatemen.

Okija_juju: .MAKE NDLF GO SIDDON FOR BUSH angry angry angry

So na today them sabi say Nigerian government misuses everything that they own?!

Okay... Let me jug their memory a little.

Everyday, we see bullion vans overtake us in traffic, driving rough at breakneck speed, and with it are two vans of atleast 10 Nigerian police officers. SO the NDLF does not know that its not the Nigerian Polices Job to be escorting money abi?!

OKAY!! What about the new trend of using the Nigerian Military to escort Oyinbo men and guard their houses?! So the NDLF has not seen this treand as well abi?!

OKAY!!! What about the one of rich people buying police escorts?! Even for their wives and children?!

OR the trend of using the Nigerian Police vehicles to carry cement for private citizens?!

WHAT of the Nigerian Army APCS that are stationed at peoples houses?!

OR MTN using the Nigerian ARMY as Maiguard for their shop in Port-harcourt?!

Abeg make them drex go far.. Oil companies & banks have bought up all our security personnels

Everything is this country is misused.. I am surprised that the Nigerian C-120 Airforce planes have not started flying commercial and Armoured tanks have not started running Port-Harcourt to Asaba or Lagos.

And the interesting part is the this helicopter that crashed was bought with TAX PAYERS MONEY O!! Na still our money them go use replace am, na still our money go maintain am.. But when time to use am reach, na for Politicians. These Army and Police that Oyinbos and co have turned into Maiguards, bodyguards and Nwa boy are paid their salaries with TAX PAYERS MONEY!! The guns they use to protect these people were bought, maintained and armed with TAX PAYERS MONEY!!

ABEGI!!

I will be needing the Nigerian Navy Submarine to go and catch crab on the ocean floor next year o!!
PoliticsRe: Madam Minister: Now That Your Mother Is Free by trix1: 5:24pm On Dec 14, 2012
alaoeri: Don't agree with υя post the government & those in authority are to be blame. For instance check kidnapping in the SS/SE its stated with the oil expatriate foreigners gradually to ordinary civilian had it been those in authority have find a lasting solution to the problem then by providing basic amenities to the populace its won't generate to this, u talking about increase in transport fare & corruption in some public office if the head is good & upright believe me the followers got no options other than to be good. Lagos as a case study, lagosian now obey traffic rule bcuz there's penalty for offenders, if our leaders are serious about fighting corruption i.e they ain't corrupt bliv corruption 'll reduce in the country, the situation is degenerating bcuz those in authority are doing little or nothing about.
I Haven't said the government is perfect, neither have I spared the govt of any blame.
All I said is that we as a people also share in the blame. let us stop this blame game, and start from our homes to our streets and constituencies to make Nigeria great again. I'd give you an example, In January, subsidy was removed, and immediately it was announced, all fuel stations started selling at 140-150 per liter, including those that had old stock. Transport fares where hiked, when part of the subsidy was re-installed, these same fuel stations waited to sell off old stock before they reverted, and Transport fares in many cases did not come down.

1025: my dear, what is ur definition of govt? mine is, a group of ppl(men and women) saddled with the responsibilities of making rules and regulations guiding the acts of others.
who is a rebel? one who rejects or revolts over govt's decisions.
what is protest? the act of expressing ur rejection of a policy.
in all we do and say, what the books write are always different from what happens in real life.
if you are a realistic person, lead me to any country of this world where the leadership is faulted while the masses are good.
who is a leader? one who sets the pace for others to follow
who is a follower? one that comes behind the leader
who is a good follower? one who follows correctly.
the bible points out the need for a good leader when it says leadership by example.
where were you in january when nigerians en mass rejected the deadly subsidy removal? did u not see the soldiers come after innocent and harmless nigerians?
how do u blame nigerians for the failures of the few selfish and wicked rulers?
if the govt makes good laws, implement them and punish rightly the offenders, why on earth will u go against the law?
if a bankole could steal publicly and go free, if a bode george could steal over N100B and stay in a place for two years and cecilia ibru could run down a bank and get a 90 days rest in a 5 star hospital as punishment, tell me in God's name why won't a normal nigerian steal?
the pacesetters or those we look up to are saying crime is the only way out. in a country where the most successful people are those living in crimes, why won't the country be full of crimes. these same rulers have destroyed our police by using them to move their ghana must go bags of money around. they have destroyed our judiciary system in their inordinate ambition to have everything under their feet.
many of us here may be against kidnapping and boko haram but I AM ONE SINGLE PERSON THAT WILL OPENLY JOIN THE TWO THE DAY THEY CONCENTRATE ON THE OKONJOS, THE GOODLUCKS AND OTHER POWER DRUNKS AND CRIMINAL MINDED POLITICIANS IN THIS COUNTRY.
we as a pupil have done everything within our means and the only option left here is REVOLUTION. if these kidnappers and boko haram can come together in violence and declare these public criminals our enemies, the names/tags(boko haram and kidnappers) will soon change to rebels and afterwards, they will take over the govt.
these few men and women are treating us like pigs and they kill us at will and as such, we must stand out and pay them and their loved ones back with the same coin.
tell me now before God and man, if ur mother or father were to be kidnapped, will nigerian police give u ordinary typing sheet to write ur complain? we must start speaking with one voice.
how many days has obasanjo been out of aso rock? is he not seeing things from the common man point of view now? even with all his money and securities, he is living in fear.
i believe the jerry rawlings movie in ghana will surely come here but my only fear is the end because nigerians are extremists.
In this context, I used Government to mean those at the helm of affairs, elected into office. That is the common man's definition of government. Once again, I'd repeat, STOP looking at what the govt have or havent done, and look at what you have done. If I give you a contract today, can I go home and sleep, knowing that you wont cheat me? Go to the market and buy tomatoes, the woman would tell you its 800buks for a basket that is worth 200buks, and expect to to bargain and beat the price down to 200buks, and if you dont know this, she's say God has blessed her, and collect your 800buks.

maclatunji: You fail to realise that leaders have greater responsibility to make things work. It is a moral obligation for every citizen to seek the development of his/her country. However, it is the duty of the leaders to make it happen. For as long as you refuse to acknowledge this, you are making excuses for the failure of our leaders!
Leaders have greater responsibility, (Leaders are not only found in government, but lets assume we are talking about only government here). no matter how great their responsibilities are, it doesn't mean the followers have no responsibilities.
If you continue with this thinking of the govt must do everything, we may never get to the promised land. look around you, have you felt any effect from the ward chairman in you area? do you even know him? when we start with ourselves, its easier to achieve greatness. the change must start with me and you!
The common man on the street would NEVER feel the effect of the president, because the conduits through which that effect should get to him is broken!
PoliticsRe: Madam Minister: Now That Your Mother Is Free by trix1: 3:06pm On Dec 14, 2012
If you read my post, I made no excuses for the leaders, instead I posited that we as a people also have a lot to do.
In simpler terms, you cannot go and stop a ministers convoy and ask him/her to repair the road to your house, but you can challenge the bus driver that is inflating the price of govt buses, or the civil servant that refuses to do his/her job.

lets stop looking outwards, and look at what we as individuals are doing wrong.
PoliticsRe: Madam Minister: Now That Your Mother Is Free by trix1: 2:41pm On Dec 14, 2012
maclatunji: Madam Minister,

Now that your mother has been freed by kidnappers, I hope you understand better what governance is all about. It is about meeting the immediate needs of the people. No matter how much you tried to carry-on with the "duties of state", distress was written all over your face at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held last Wednesday as shown by the NTA. She's human!! even if American/Israeli/British forces combined together are on a rescue mission to free her mum, she's still be very worried. the face that she was able to carry on with her usual duties is a huge plus, no matter the amount of distress show on her face

Don't get me wrong, I am not in support of kidnapping or any other crime for that matter and rejoice with you over the safe return of your mother to you her loved ones. However, for too long government officials have been happy to deal with Nigerians like "Guinea Pigs" that are to be used to prove or dispel some of their long held hypothesis and probably beliefs. This is the reason why people like you in government are quick to quote figures and reports that you claim prove that the lives of Nigerians are getting better. The lives of Nigerians are actually getting better!! walk into the streets and see how many people now afford brand new cars!! ask Inspired and those other car dealers here on NL how many cars they sell, and not to politicians but people who have worked hard and earned such monies. nobody has said things are perfect, But things are far better than they were before. in all the states, people are building houses, are these houses all owned by politicians? Nigeria has actually improved.

I am sure that for the four or five days that your mother was held captive by those criminals, none of the statistics on the "sharp decrease" in crime that the Nigerian Police and other security agencies could manufacture sorry present mattered to you. All that mattered to you was that your aged mother was in mortal danger and you had no idea of where she was.

Well, Madam Minister, that is how it is for the vast majority of Nigerians who listen to you and other officials in government tell us how beautiful and grand your plans are and how they are "improving the lives of the common man." I hope you realise now that if most of the population do not see, feel and actually taste these improvements and positive developments you are so apt to bring forward and are skilled to talk about, you are just wasting our time and have the same effect as nauseating irritants. one major reason why the common man may not readily feel govt policies directly is because of our attitude of "dog chop dog". look at mass transit scheme as an example. ministers and politicians do not use public transport in Nigeria, and may not know what goes on in there. They have allocated money for this, and civil servants are in place to implement. however most times they have very poor attitude to work, and the drivers of these buses usually look for ways to cut corners. you really don't expect the minister or Jonathan to monitor the drivers. I see Fashola in the news, arresting erring motorist, etc. that isn't his Job, someone is paid to monitor motorist and arrest erring ones. the reason it makes news is because it is not the norm.

I congratulate you on the release of your dear mother, I hope she wasn't too shaken and moves forward with the rest of her life in peace and tranquility. However, let this unfortunate event be an important wake-up call to you and your colleagues in government starting from Mr. President to stop taking we the masses for granted and do more to impact positively on our lives instead of quoting questionable statistics that have little correlation to the reality on ground for most of Nigeria's citizens.

Once again, congratulations Honourable Minister.

I Disagree with most of this post. I've tried to highlight my comments in red (please pardon my typos and errors).
Most importantly, the major point I'm trying to make is that Nigeria won't work if we keep looking at politicians. The people need to make it work! until you and me decide to work as one, nothing would work!

when one of us gets a contract from the govt to repair the road, we go to his house to congratulate him, and help him eat part of the money, and he does a shady job and thanks God for breakthrough.

The fuel station attendants use only one pump in the fuel station to create artificial scarcity so that he/she gets more "tips" from customers.

the bus drivers and conductors inflate the transport fare at the slight sign of traffic jam.

the public/civil servants in our schools and ministries would openly ask you for tips before they do they job they are paid by govt to do.

the men/women who now collect a flat rate of 10% before you get the contract.

The comments on this thread have proved what Baroness Lynda Chalker said. Most people do not believe anything good is happening in Nigeria.
Take a good look at the newspaper headlines, or NL frontpage, its all negative!! Does this mean than NOTHING good happens in our lives everyday?
I once asked the SR chap why all his reports are never positive, and he said that's what NTA and other govt media are for, to publish lies and propaganda. That was the day I stopped believing anything published by SR.

PoliticsRe: Sanusi To FG: Sack 50% Of Civil Servants by trix1: 8:50am On Nov 28, 2012
Lets take a moment to really think about it, walk into any govt agency, you'd find lots of redundant workers, all those 'typist' and 'messengers'.. etc

sometimes you have to tip them to do their jobs, many civil servants even have other businesses outside, and do not take their jobs seriously. I've even heard people say they want civil service jobs cos they'd have time for themselves.

While sacking a whooping 50% may look like an overkill, I think a total revamping of the civil service would be in order. the corruption and redundancy is so much.

What sort of 'beer parlor' and 'hair salon gossip' report is this?

All I see here are excuses as to why the police is failing in delta state.

An unnamed, poorly described PhD holder is the head of kidnapping, and yet they expect people to come forward with useful information ;

Victims refuse to testify in court ;

Traditional rulers do not cooperate with them due to controversies over who occupies the position, and

They have six unnamed corrupt police officers!!

After hearing all this, the best caption tribune could come up with is "Most Wanted Kidnapper In Delta State Is A PhD Holder — Commissioner Of Police"

And as usual, many people would just read the caption and start making silly comments, without even reading the complete article.

Okija_juju: Your base salary should be dependent on the standard of living in your area..

Now a graduate who has to pay for the following;

1. Electricity.

2. Transportation (Atleast 300 naira Daily #Base Case)

3. Accomodation (1 Bedroom self-contained)

4. Food (500 Naira per day)

5. Clothing (5000 Naira per month)

6. Miscellenous expenses (Toileteries, Fuel for his I-Pass-My-Neighbour, Gas for his Camp-gas, e.t.c)

And lives in any of the following cities;

1. Abuja

2. Lagos

3. Port-Harcourt

4. Calabar

5. Warri

Cannot accept a job that pays anything less than 100,000 per day and survive without extra-income coming from elsewhere.

At this point in my professional life (my experience level o), my base salary for any job is 200 Thousand Naira per month after taxes and must come with atleast 2 bonuses every year.
500 buks a day for food? breakfast/lunch/dinner?

kingingkinging: It is always difficult to give a loaded question and expect a blancket answer. Questions are always relative and answers too are relative.

What Mr A will call a bad salary; Mr B may accept. I have seen people who were ready to work without salary just to garner the relevant years of experience for better opportunity.

However, if we want to pick an average salary, I think N60,000 for a start is not too bad. With that you can:
1. Pay your T. fare=N15,000 a month (highest)
2. Pay your tithe=N6000
3. Feed yourself=N18,000 @N600 per day
4. Cloth yourself=N5000 @ N2,500 per shirt (avg)
5. Save remaining N16,000 for future use eg writing of professional exams, etc.
You did not take accommodation into cognizance

A fresh graduate with a 2.1 and no sort of work experience is 'worth' less than a fresh graduate with 2.2 and gathered some sort of RELEVANT work experience on his/her way through school. Professional certifications also have an effect.
The point I’m trying to make is that there are several factors (work experience, skill set, class of degree, Location, etc) that affect what a ‘graduate’ should expect and accept.
RomanceRe: Getting Married In 2 Months - Why Does He Distrust Me So Much? by trix1: 10:55am On Oct 31, 2012
So you say
1) this guy has cheated in ALL his past relationships, and you were NEVER intimate in any of your past relationships.

member_126910: Even though I was a virgin at 25 when we met, I have had previous boyfriends…
He admits that he has had several partners before me, and also that he had never been 100% faithful to any one of them…
The funny thing about this is that the day he told me that he had never been faithful to anyone before (even in a 5 year relationship that he was in - he said the lady cheated, so he cheated for revenge)….
2) This guy is tracking every minute detail of your life, and you totally trust him, not minding his antecedents

member_126910: Yet, I do not try to grill him in the same way. I do not assume that he is cheating when anything happens, if he doesn't answer his phone immediately….
Recently, I found out that he has (without my knowledge), not just hacked into my Twitter account but also set up his phone to receive an alert whenever anyone mentions me or sends me a message on Twitter. This is not just a hack which lets you log into my Twitter. This is an alert like a text message. This means that wherever he is, whatever he is doing, he wants to know what who contacts me on Twitter. He does have a Twitter account but isn't interested in anything I have to say and so he isn't following me. Rather he is interested in the private messages I get, and what messages people send me.
3) His Cousin has stood up for you as a character witness, and the guy is very cunning..

member_126910: It doesn't help also that he is very cunning. On one occasion, I invited him to church with me, he pretended he wasn't coming, dropped me off at the station, and immediately followed me on the train back to church to see…….

The ironic thing is that early this year, I met a guy on the plane, who can be desribed as a ladies man. This man stared at me for the entire duration of the 6-hour flight, at the end of which he stopped me to chat me up. I initially thought he recognised me from somewhere, but when it seemed he just wanted to chat a girl up, I told him I was married and walked away. I narrated this to my fiance, and by pure coincidence 3 months later, it turned out the same guy in question was dating my fiance's cousin, and had narrated the incident to her as well, confirming my story in public!.....
You have painted this guy as a bad person, and made youself almost saint-like. I really do not know if you expect anyone to read this story, believe it and still stand up for this guy.

But I still think you must have seen something in this ‘bad guy’ to date and even accept his marriage proposal; Its normal to have Cold feet just before the wedding, sometimes blow things out of propotion. BUT if every single thing you typed up there is true, then the guy is paying for all his years of cheating… After all the real punishment of a lair isnt that his lie isnt believed, but that he CAN’T believe anything other people say.

As a child, I was taught to listen to news and read books to learn/improve my spoken and written English. The world has evolved, and nearly everyone is on the internet these days. It’s only fair that we write articles that people can learn from. When ‘Graduates’ speak/write wrong English we are quick to point fingers and call them half-baked, but we all contribute to this decay.
My point is; whatever is worth doing is worth doing very well... some people here may not benefit from the story the OP is narrating but it would be nice if some people learn new words/sentence construction from the story the OP has written.
