CFCfan: After some self abnegation and immolation, I have come to the conclusion that Senator Oluremi Tinubu is the best person to occupy the Lagos state Governor's seat, come May 29, 2015.So you admit she hasn't contributed significantly to the senate... So Poise, charm and charity causes are enough to make her the best person? If someone that has made zero significant contribution to her current role is the best candidate for ACN, then I pity ACN.. Although I think you are just being sarcastic.. |
Why Yawning Is Contagious: You yawn to equalize the pressure on your eardrums. This pressure change outside your eardrums unbalances other people's ear pressures, so they must yawn to even it out. |
I was going to say every worker (even in private firms) usually has a right to company properties, (e.g borrowing official cars for private trips/weddings, using company restaurants for receptions, ) as long as there's prior approval, and its used sensibly.. But after reading the post below, its clear that we've over abused the privileged. I think the most annoying is seeing men in Nigerian army uniform opening and closing gates of private business establishments. even one of the yeye Nigerian musicians sef, don use am sing song say e get mopol as gatemen. Okija_juju: .[b]MAKE NDLF GO SIDDON FOR BUSH |
alaoeri: Don't agree with υя post the government & those in authority are to be blame. For instance check kidnapping in the SS/SE its stated with the oil expatriate foreigners gradually to ordinary civilian had it been those in authority have find a lasting solution to the problem then by providing basic amenities to the populace its won't generate to this, u talking about increase in transport fare & corruption in some public office if the head is good & upright believe me the followers got no options other than to be good. Lagos as a case study, lagosian now obey traffic rule bcuz there's penalty for offenders, if our leaders are serious about fighting corruption i.e they ain't corrupt bliv corruption 'll reduce in the country, the situation is degenerating bcuz those in authority are doing little or nothing about.I Haven't said the government is perfect, neither have I spared the govt of any blame. All I said is that we as a people also share in the blame. let us stop this blame game, and start from our homes to our streets and constituencies to make Nigeria great again. I'd give you an example, In January, subsidy was removed, and immediately it was announced, all fuel stations started selling at 140-150 per liter, including those that had old stock. Transport fares where hiked, when part of the subsidy was re-installed, these same fuel stations waited to sell off old stock before they reverted, and Transport fares in many cases did not come down. 1025: my dear, what is ur definition of govt? mine is, a group of ppl(men and women) saddled with the responsibilities of making rules and regulations guiding the acts of others. In this context, I used Government to mean those at the helm of affairs, elected into office. That is the common man's definition of government. Once again, I'd repeat, STOP looking at what the govt have or havent done, and look at what you have done. If I give you a contract today, can I go home and sleep, knowing that you wont cheat me? Go to the market and buy tomatoes, the woman would tell you its 800buks for a basket that is worth 200buks, and expect to to bargain and beat the price down to 200buks, and if you dont know this, she's say God has blessed her, and collect your 800buks. maclatunji: You fail to realise that leaders have greater responsibility to make things work. It is a moral obligation for every citizen to seek the development of his/her country. However, it is the duty of the leaders to make it happen. For as long as you refuse to acknowledge this, you are making excuses for the failure of our leaders!Leaders have greater responsibility, (Leaders are not only found in government, but lets assume we are talking about only government here). no matter how great their responsibilities are, it doesn't mean the followers have no responsibilities. If you continue with this thinking of the govt must do everything, we may never get to the promised land. look around you, have you felt any effect from the ward chairman in you area? do you even know him? when we start with ourselves, its easier to achieve greatness. the change must start with me and you! The common man on the street would NEVER feel the effect of the president, because the conduits through which that effect should get to him is broken! |
If you read my post, I made no excuses for the leaders, instead I posited that we as a people also have a lot to do. In simpler terms, you cannot go and stop a ministers convoy and ask him/her to repair the road to your house, but you can challenge the bus driver that is inflating the price of govt buses, or the civil servant that refuses to do his/her job. lets stop looking outwards, and look at what we as individuals are doing wrong. |
maclatunji: Madam Minister,I Disagree with most of this post. I've tried to highlight my comments in red (please pardon my typos and errors). Most importantly, the major point I'm trying to make is that Nigeria won't work if we keep looking at politicians. The people need to make it work! until you and me decide to work as one, nothing would work! when one of us gets a contract from the govt to repair the road, we go to his house to congratulate him, and help him eat part of the money, and he does a shady job and thanks God for breakthrough. The fuel station attendants use only one pump in the fuel station to create artificial scarcity so that he/she gets more "tips" from customers. the bus drivers and conductors inflate the transport fare at the slight sign of traffic jam. the public/civil servants in our schools and ministries would openly ask you for tips before they do they job they are paid by govt to do. the men/women who now collect a flat rate of 10% before you get the contract. |
In this day and age were women are advocating for equal rights with men, I think It proper for a woman to say what she wants, and not expect her man to know what she wants based on what he read/heard somewhere. If you want something SAY IT. |
wmunonline: Tobi is the first African woman to clinched the Title of the World Miss University Africa. She's the first African? Does this mean that non Africans have been winning this title? That aside, your grammar and sentence construction leaves a lot to be desired!! |
Misleading title!! Nairaland wasn't mentioned as Tech startups to watch in 2013 in this article, it was only mentioned for Commercialization!! |
berem: 150% of men are chronic liars and cheats! Are you telling us that your father is a cheat and a liar? Or that he's not a man? |
OP: (Faces Of Nollywood Legends That WeA clear effect of watching too much Nollywood movies. |
This governor is a HUGE joke!! All we hear is what he wants to do... He hasn't even commissioned ordinary bore-hole sef.. Yeye dey smell.. |
omenziate: A country where an average of 20 pple die a week from avoidable causes, graduate unemployment rising to about 70% to the extent PhD and Msc holders are now truck drivers and it is seen as laudable. Life expectancy at 52 or even less, power is seen as luxury, PHCN office operates with a generator, pple live on less a dollar a day, a country where petty thieves are incinerated and big ones are celebrated . I even feel the bad news in Nigeria is underreported.the bad news is under-reported? and then the good news is what? over-reported? |
bmasz: Am confused. Nigeria is progressing why all this fuse. Unemployment is on the increase. Massive road construction are going on (on paper). Boko haram is saving lifes on a forth-basis. Legislooters are exporting our Naira to developed countries. Our sport is taking giant strides from behind. Political class is mainly comprised of unpatriotic nigerians. The list of progress we are makin in the negative direction is endless.can you honestly say NOTHING good has happened around you in the last 3days? |
Some people are missing the point. we are not saying that everything is rosy in Nigeria, But that everything isn't negative! for those of you that are old enough to remember when nollywood started making home videos, you'd recall that many people started associating Nigerians with native doctors and babalawo, etc etc. some people on NL today believe that there's no bush in USA and UK, cos of the movies and stories they see/hear. There's good and there's bad news, its only fair to balance the news |
If you don't take care of your country's image, who will? The comments on this thread have proved what Baroness Lynda Chalker said. Most people do not believe anything good is happening in Nigeria. Take a good look at the newspaper headlines, or NL frontpage, its all negative!! Does this mean than NOTHING good happens in our lives everyday? I once asked the SR chap why all his reports are never positive, and he said that's what NTA and other govt media are for, to publish lies and propaganda. That was the day I stopped believing anything published by SR. 'the grass is always greener over the fence' |
lanez: We all have aspirations, and going to school is just almost default in our society today, I studied computer science in unilag, buh if u ask me I'll say I wanna be a rapper, so its just natural that our dreams don't necessarily go in the "book" direction!!! Buh we just av to go!In other words, the time spent in university isn't optimized. don't you think you would have gained something that'd would aid you to achieve your dream of rapping if you had majored in something like music or anytin along that line? Or is the purpose of going to university purely to get ANY certificate? |
If she wasn't modelling, she'd have been acting... And would like to be addressed as "Queen Tobi Phillips 6th World Miss University Nigeria, United Nations Student Peace Ambassador to Nigeria. 4 years at university of Lagos," So where does marine science come in? Why then is she in university studying marine science? |
Why declare him wanted? I think the normal thing would have been to issue a warrant for his arrest (after proper investigation) and when he isn't found at his home or he runs away, they then declare him wanted!! |
Lets take a moment to really think about it, walk into any govt agency, you'd find lots of redundant workers, all those 'typist' and 'messengers'.. etc sometimes you have to tip them to do their jobs, many civil servants even have other businesses outside, and do not take their jobs seriously. I've even heard people say they want civil service jobs cos they'd have time for themselves. While sacking a whooping 50% may look like an overkill, I think a total revamping of the civil service would be in order. the corruption and redundancy is so much. |
"...the NANS officials were able to earmarked(sic) over 30 legacy projects and more......" and yet they were only able to mention 28 shameful projects, most of which are either under construction or renovated(reconstructed). NANs is supposed to be a representation of Nigerian students, and yet this post is riddled with grammatical somersaults!! obinalihe: > Just a few weeks ago ,the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) took to their tour round the entire sites, locations where all the projects completed and on-going ones are being situated in Abia state.,they made an all-round supervision to confirm the level of work going on in Abia state ,to ascertain the developmental progress Abia state governor has attained;after going round to evaluate the level of work that has been actualized, the NANS officials were able to earmarked over 30 legacy projects and more, which have been put into place in the state.....and more still to come....below is a brief breakdown of numerous projects which they confirmed,completed,on-going projects, etc. |
What sort of 'beer parlor' and 'hair salon gossip' report is this? All I see here are excuses as to why the police is failing in delta state. An unnamed, poorly described PhD holder is the head of kidnapping, and yet they expect people to come forward with useful information ; Victims refuse to testify in court ; Traditional rulers do not cooperate with them due to controversies over who occupies the position, and They have six unnamed corrupt police officers!! After hearing all this, the best caption tribune could come up with is "Most Wanted Kidnapper In Delta State Is A PhD Holder — Commissioner Of Police" And as usual, many people would just read the caption and start making silly comments, without even reading the complete article. |
Another 'amnesty' So any group can now come up, call them selves anyname (freedom fighters/militants/boko haram) terrorize/kill/maim people and turn around for settlement talks.. And walk rich and free afterwards.. |
Okija_juju: Your base salary should be dependent on the standard of living in your area..500 buks a day for food? breakfast/lunch/dinner? |
kingingkinging: It is always difficult to give a loaded question and expect a blancket answer. Questions are always relative and answers too are relative. You did not take accommodation into cognizance |
A fresh graduate with a 2.1 and no sort of work experience is 'worth' less than a fresh graduate with 2.2 and gathered some sort of RELEVANT work experience on his/her way through school. Professional certifications also have an effect. The point I’m trying to make is that there are several factors (work experience, skill set, class of degree, Location, etc) that affect what a ‘graduate’ should expect and accept. |
So you say 1) this guy has cheated in ALL his past relationships, and you were NEVER intimate in any of your past relationships. member_126910: Even though I was a virgin at 25 when we met, I have had previous boyfriends…2) This guy is tracking every minute detail of your life, and you totally trust him, not minding his antecedents member_126910: Yet, I do not try to grill him in the same way. I do not assume that he is cheating when anything happens, if he doesn't answer his phone immediately….3) His Cousin has stood up for you as a character witness, and the guy is very cunning.. member_126910: It doesn't help also that he is very cunning. On one occasion, I invited him to church with me, he pretended he wasn't coming, dropped me off at the station, and immediately followed me on the train back to church to see…….You have painted this guy as a bad person, and made youself almost saint-like. I really do not know if you expect anyone to read this story, believe it and still stand up for this guy. But I still think you must have seen something in this ‘bad guy’ to date and even accept his marriage proposal; Its normal to have Cold feet just before the wedding, sometimes blow things out of propotion. BUT if every single thing you typed up there is true, then the guy is paying for all his years of cheating… After all the real punishment of a lair isnt that his lie isnt believed, but that he CAN’T believe anything other people say. |
Negro_Ntns: Pdp are thugs...dem don come again to disturb and disrupt peaceful atmosphere in motor parks. Bunch of touts !Did this incident occur in a motor park? You clearly did not read the article.. From the story, NURTW was the first to throw the first blow!! PDP supporters were singing PDP praises, NURTW took offence.. Is NURTW a political party? |
One thing I'm yet to understand on NL, is why people wouldn't read an article and be among the first to comment.. If they didn't have time to read, how come they have time to type? |
How come all we ever hear/read about Abia State Government is what they intend to do, and never what they have done? |
I’m surprised people still find such stories fascinating, Judging from the fact that here on Nairaland so many people CANNOT read through the body of a post, they just read the headlines and start commenting…. Let’s not even talk about their grammatical summersaults. |
okooyinbo: My friend, lo fara e bale jare. Ki lo mo? You have not seen anything. O ko i ti ri nkankan. Go to USA, UK, Ozzy, Kiwi and correct them there. Afterall, they are native speakers, yet a lot of them murder their own language in writing. Atleast you got her message didnt you? This behaviour of correcting people's English at the detriment of the message being conveyed, is very pathetic and childish at the very least. Oro pari!As a child, I was taught to listen to news and read books to learn/improve my spoken and written English. The world has evolved, and nearly everyone is on the internet these days. It’s only fair that we write articles that people can learn from. When ‘Graduates’ speak/write wrong English we are quick to point fingers and call them half-baked, but we all contribute to this decay. My point is; whatever is worth doing is worth doing very well... some people here may not benefit from the story the OP is narrating but it would be nice if some people learn new words/sentence construction from the story the OP has written. |
