CrimePanel Beater Arrested For Stealing His Elder Brother's Wife Pants by Trizzi(op): 8:53pm On Jan 30, 2019
A 25-year-old panel beater identified as Adejoh Ojonugwa has been arrested in Ondo State for stealing underwear belonging to his elder brother's wife.

He was apprehended by officers of Ondo State Police Command after the case was reported. The suspect was nabbed alongside one Prophet Olajide Ogunleye of the Celestial Church of Christ, Ibanujemidopin Parish in Uso Local Council Area of the state.

During interrogation with reporters, Ojonugwa, a native of Kogi State, said he only visited the prophet for spiritual cleansing as he needed a solution to his problem. Narrating his side of the story, he said: "I went to seek spiritual cleansing from Prophet Ogunleye and when I got there, he prayed fervently for me. In fact, he asked me about the job I do, and I told him that I am a panel beater, which has been my trade for a very long time.

"Later, he asked me to open my hand, and he dropped something on it for me to swallow, which I did. After I swallowed it, he prayed for me and I left his place. But when I got home, I became unconscious.

Later, I began to look for my brother's wife underwear and I took them to the Prophet for some ritual purposes. Sadly, hours later, my brother's wife raised the alarm that her underwear garments were missing and I was arrested.

When the Police arrested me, I was taken to Uso Police Station before they transferred me here to Akure. Two of the items belong to my brother's wife and three belong to my younger sister.”
The Prophet, however, denied the allegation, stating that he was only being implicated by the suspect.

His words:
"I am a true man of God and I have never seen the boy (Ojonugwa) in my life. He is just lying against me. The truth of this matter is that they came to me for a parcel of land and I refused to give them. I never asked him to bring any underwear for rituals. So, they feel it is an opportunity to implicate me in this crime since I had refused to give them the land to cultivate Indian hemp.

"Though, I engage in some spiritual cleansing for people, mostly pregnant women who have difficulties so they can give birth early and easily, I don't engage in rituals as it is against the belief of our church. I only see the allegation as pure lies against me.”
Visibly angry, the elder brother of the suspect, Benjamin Ojonugwa, said his younger brother had always wanted to have money “by all means, even through rituals. He is my own younger brother and has always been in haste to have money through any means, but I just thank God that he was exposed. He stole my wife’s underwear, and wanted to use it for ritual purpose, so that he will have more money than me,” he said.

Grace Ojonugwa, the victim, confirmed that the suspect stole her underwear from where she spread it to dry in the house. "It was my husband's younger brother that stole the pants. He was actually trailing me to spread it and when I discovered that the pants were missing, I knew he stole it," she said Femi Joseph, spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, said the suspect and the Prophet were arrested last week by the Police.

Joseph, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the cases of "stolen female underwear" were now becoming a trend and advised ladieas to be on their guard. "We have to guard whatever we are putting on. I also advise parents to warn their children, particularly females, to be very careful where they keep their undergarments,” he said. He added that the suspects would be charged to court soon.

PoliticsMURIC Fires Back At US, UK For Attacking Buhari Over Suspension Of CJN by Trizzi(op): 11:24am On Jan 27, 2019
The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has faulted the concerns raised by the United States, US, and Britain over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen.

MURIC said both US and Britain should not look at the suspension in isolation but consider the gravity of the offence committed by Onnoghen.

The statement reads:
“Western countries should not just jump to conclusions. They should not just make it look as if the CJN is being suspended to clear the way for some undemocratic practices. Neither the US nor Britain will allow a judge to accumulate wealth illegally because it is dangerous for the judicial system. Heavy cash lodgements in both foreign and local currencies were allegedly found in the former CJN’s accounts. No responsible government will ignore that.

“While we appreciate the interest of US and UK in evolving healthy democracies around the world, particularly in Nigeria, we will appreciate it more if these countries show equal concern for Nigeria’s war against corruption, particularly in the judiciary and in the repatriation of Nigeria’s looted funds in those two countries. Advanced democracies are not under any special obligation to listen only to the opposition and echo its propaganda. They also owe it a moral duty to hear the government’s side before making policy statements.

“To this end, we expect that both the US and UK will equally show interest in the allegation bordering on corruption made against the former CJN as they have expressed concern over his suspension. This ought to be done against the backdrop of the reputation of Nigeria which a former British prime minister described as ‘fantastically corrupt’ but which the present regime of President Muhammadu Buhari is trying hard to turn around.

“It is a known fact that no war against corruption can succeed if the judiciary is corrupt. It is the robust judicial system which both the US and UK enjoy today that allows a conducive atmosphere for democratic principles of rule of law, liberty and justice.

“We seek no less in our country, Nigeria. We find the alleged involvement of the CJN in financial misdemeanor sickening, repulsive and outrageous. A civil society group who could summon the courage demanded his sack. We no longer have any confidence in his leadership of this country’s judiciary.

“MURIC appeals to Western countries to allow the Nigerian government to clean its judiciary. It is the last hope of the common man. The filth in our judiciary will be better understood when we remember how James Ononefe Ibori of Delta State mesmerized the Nigerian judiciary for years without being punished. But he was caught in Britain and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment because the British judiciary will not take rubbish. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State also ran foul of the British judiciary before he jumped bail in 2005. This is one major reason the Nigerian government must be allowed to clean its judiciary.

“We must ask Britain if it can tolerate what is happening in Nigeria today on her own soil. For instance, the current British Lord Chief Justice, Sir John Thomas, earns £240,000 per annum. Will Theresa May, the Prime Minister, keep mum if he receives a report that his Lord Chief Justice has five bank accounts with more than $500,000 in each? Can his American counterpart, the US Chief Judge, John Glover Roberts Jnr, do the same and get away with it under Donald Trump’s watch? You show concern for Onnoghen’s suspension but not for the big sums of money he was practically caught with and which he admitted to. It hurts our sensibilities and you need to make amends.

“This is exactly what we are saying: leave our government alone if you cannot allow it to happen in your own countries. It has been happening here for long and now we have a solution to it via a democratically elected president. We have tons of confidence in Muhammadu Buhari. He sits on our treasury. He does not steal and he will not allow thieves to steal our common patrimony. We are satisfied with him as the guardian over our wealth. We do not care whether he is ‘lifeless’, ‘weak’, or ‘incompetent’. We never had it so good.

“Before we take a break, we appeal to the US and Britain to turn more attention to the repatriation of funds looted from Nigeria. The two countries will earn our respect more if this is done. We need the West’s cooperation in our war against corruption more than we need it in political demagoguery. Fairness demands that the US which expressed concern over the CJN’s suspension follows it up with a statement cautioning judges from getting enmeshed in graft and politicians from getting involved in money politics.”

There are only but a few Nigerians today that are not shocked and embarrassed at the case made against the CJN but come on, Mr President @MBuhari , you have GROSSLY ABUSED the principle of Separation of Powers in our Democracy by FAILING TO FOLLOW DUE PROCESS. Reverse that ABUSE.

You know what’s worse, @NGRPresident @MBuhari , it is the fact that observers of your usual nepotistic instincts could already predict where you were headed with the Judiciary. You DIVIDE your people too much by your words and actions. WE have had enough of such poor Leadership.

So, I advise the @NGRPresident to immediately reverse this constitutional violation and take the matter to the @NGRSenate so 2/3 of them can consistent with their power of confirmation and sack do the right thing on this matter. Don’t truncate our Democracy. It was HARD won. ✍

PoliticsOnnoghen: Fayose Reacts, Says Buhari Not Different From Adolf Hitler by Trizzi(op): 9:37pm On Jan 25, 2019
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has likened President Muhammadu Buhari to Adolf Hitler, after he ordered the suspension of Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Fayose claims Buhari acted on a “black market order” from the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

“A President who chose to obey a Black Market order from the CCT to illegally suspend a CJN but refused to obey Valid Court Orders on El-Zakzaky, Dasuki and others is not different from Adolf Hitler,” Fayose tweeted via his verified account.

Buhari had on Friday suspended Onnoghen and immediately appointed Tanko Mohammed as acting CJN.

Explaining his reason, the President said he suspended Onnoghen, following an order from the CCT, asking him to wield the big stick.

President Buhari has since appoint Muhammed Tanko as Nigeria new CJN.

He wrote:

2-I completely and totally reject the suspension of CJN Onnoghen by the cabal. The trumped up corruption charges against Onnoghen are before the courts, who have so far ruled in Onnoghen’s favour. King Lear madness must be resisted by voters on February 16, 2019 #TankoIsaUsurper

.@MBuhari said he was forced to suspend the CJN because of an order by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. It is an excuse. Buhari DOES NOT obey court orders. If he did, he would have obeyed the court order to free Sambo Dasuki. Besides, another court has stopped the trial #RenosDarts

President @MBuhari said that he expected Justice Onnoghen to step aside because of the charges. Yet this hypocrisy President DID NOT expect Kano @GovUmarGanduje to step aside though he was caught on camera collecting bribe. Buhari even praised him after the event #TankoIsaUsurper

The suspension of Former CJN Walter Onnoghen by President Buhari, breaks the heart of PDP as they angrily reacts.

President Buhari has since appoint Muhammed Tanko as the new CJN.
They wrote:
The @OfficialPDPNig rejects in its entirety, the attempts by President @MBuhari to foist an illegal Chief Justice on the nation while the substantive CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen is still in office.

The @OfficialPDPNig firmly holds that such impunity cannot stand, as Nigeria is a nation governed by law and not by the whims and caprices of a dictatorial leader. President @MBuhari wants to ruin our country and we will never allow him.

Nigerians must reject the incendiary move by President @MBuhari to forcefully suspend our constitution, annex the judicial arm of govt. and open the nation up for full-blown totalitarianism to achieve his self-succession bid, having realized that he cannot win the 2019 election

President @MBuhari’s action in attempting to unilaterally appoint a Chief Justice and foist him on our country is a direct invitation to anarchy, national confusion and a monumental crisis capable of derailing our democracy and destroying our corporate existence as a nation.

It is now clear to the world that President @MBuhari, in his selfish self-succession bid, is out to cause mayhem in our nation and truncate the smooth conduct of the 2019 election, not minding the consequential human and material losses.

There can be no 2 CJN. Our constitution is clear on how a Chief Justice is appointed and removed as such does not lie on the prerogative of the President. As such, we urge all Nigerians and the international community to recognize only Justice Walter Onnoghen as the CJN

We invite the international community and particularly the @WhiteHouse and the @10DowningStreet to note that this assault on the judiciary is geared towards subverting the 2019 general elections & as such immediately list President @MBuhari and APC leaders for proposed sanctioned

PoliticsCJN: Ozekhome Calls For Mass Protest, Shut Down Of Courts, NASS by Trizzi(op): 7:45pm On Jan 25, 2019
A constitutional lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has described the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as illegal and unconstitutional.

Ozekhome in a statement on Friday he said the provisions of the constitution on appointment and removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) was clear and was not followed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The provisions of section 292(2) of the 1999 Constitution are quite clear on how the CJN can be removed from office. Aside sections 153,158 and parts 1 and 2 of the 3rd schedule to the Constitution, which provide that a judicial officer can not be removed from office until he has first been tried and dealt with by the National Judicial Council (NJC), Section 292(2) makes it clear that the president can only remove the CJN from office before the age of his retirement when “acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate”. When did the Senate meet to donate this power to the president?” Ozekhome asked.

He said Nigerians “should brace up, come out enmasse, to protest against this illegality.

He also said Nigerian lawyers and the NBA (Nigeria Bar Association) should shut down all courts in Nigeria until the CJN is returned to his seat.

He said this was achieved even under military dictatorship in Pakistan, when former Pakistani president, Pervez Musharraf illegally removed from office the then Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on 11th March, 2007.

“All the lawyers went on strike, from 15th March, 2007, shut down the courts and protested on the streets for months, until a panel of 7 members of the Supreme Court sat and held that the removal was illegal and reinstated the Chief Justice.

He said the “NASS (National Assembly) should also shut down in protest.’
