Ag. IGP Adamu’s sojourn in the Nigeria Police commenced in 1986 when he joined the Force as a Cadet ASP and was trained at the Police College, Ikeja. In his early service years, he worked as the Divisional Crime Officer and ...

Administrative Officer at the Mgbidi Police Station, Mgbidi, Imo State; O/C General Investigation, Nigeria Police Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar and as a detective at the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos where he worked with teams to resolve several major crimes and earned a reputation as a super detective.

Between 2007 – 2010, Ag. IGP Adamu served as the Director, Peacekeeping and Training, Force Headquarters, Abuja and was later deployed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Administration in Ekiti State Command.

Between 2012 -2013, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Kaduna State Police Command. He was later deployed as the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Police Command between 2013 – 2015 and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5 Police Headquarters, Benin-City between 2016-17.

An officer widely defined in Nigeria Police circle as an epitome of global policing and one with experience in policing in a diverse environment, between 1997 – 2002, he was seconded from the Nigeria Police to the INTERPOL General Secretariat, Lyon, France as a ‘Specialised Officer’ on Economic and Financial Crimes in the Economic and Financial Crimes Sub-Directorate.

In due appreciation of his depth of professional knowledge and exceptional leadership, he was soon elevated to the position of Assistant Director in-charge of the African Sub-Directorate at the INTERPOL General Secretariat. In 2005, he was again elevated to the position of Director, National Central Bureau and 1-24/7 Global Communication System and Development within the hierarchy of the INTERPOL Secretariat, Lyon, France. He holds the record as the first ever African to be made a Director in the over 82 years history of INTERPOL.

As an established, dependable and well-respected asset within the global policing network. Ag. IGP Adamu was between 2010 and 2012 elected as an Executive Member of INTERPOL at its General Assembly Session in Singapore, and between 2012 and 2014, he was elected as the INTERPOL’s Vice President responsible for Africa during the Organisation’s meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam. Aside placing Nigeria Police on the international plane, Ag. IGP Adamu has in his rich national and international policing career led several important criminal investigations for Nigeria in the UK, USA, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Nertherlands and several West African countries. He has also been active in providing leadership and developing policies and strategies within the INTERPOL Organisation, while drawing on his broad network within the organization to strengthen the local INTERPOL Office domiciled in the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters.


Ag. IGP Adamu has attended several strategic professional leadership and operational courses both locally and internationally.

These include the Advanced Detective Course at the Police Staff College, Jos; Financial Crimes Course at the International Training Institute of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Washington DC; Criminal Anaysis Course at the Ecole National Seperieure de la Police (ESPN), Saint Cyr Au Mont dór, Lyon, France; Senior Management Development and Planning Course, and the Staff.

Assessment Course both at the INTERPOL Headquarters in Lyon, France.

He has also attended the ECOWAS Strategic Level training on Security Sector reform in West Africa as well as the Leadership and Strategic Management Workshop for Senior Corporate & Public Sector Executives at the Centre of Management Development, Lagos. Ag. A 27-year-old woman, Olabode Bello, and her two children have been arrested by the Police for beating a 40-year-old housewife, Foluke Olanipekun, a co-tenant at their Ogo Street, Arigidi Akoko area residence, Ondo State, to death.

The Police report had it that the two families had a misunderstanding which snowballed into a free-for-all. After the fight, the families went to bed, only for the deceased to have reportedly passed on in her sleep. Neighbours were reportedly invited after her family members’ efforts to wake her up the morning after the fight failed. The deceased’s relatives raised the alarm, pointing accusing fingers at the suspect and her children. Police detectives were subsequently invited to the scene and the suspects later invited for questioning before being detained. The corpse was deposited at the lkare Specialist Hospital. Divisional Police Officer for Okeagbe Akoko, Ibitayo Adetanranmi, confirmed the incident. Adetanranmi said the suspects would soon be transferred to the state police headquarters for further interrogation and would then be charged to court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, today arraigned Ajibade Wasiu Oladotun, pictured above, before Justice M.A. Onyetenu of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and possession of false document.

A statement from the antigraft agency says one of the counts reads:

“That you, Ajibade Wasiu Oladotun sometimes in the month of March 2017, at Ile-Ife in Osun State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, did obtain by false pretence the sum of $2,300 (Two Thousand Three Hundred Dollars) from one Chris Odom who resides in the United States of America, under the pretence that you are a woman named Lola Parker, ready to marry him and that the money was to be part of the air ticket from KLM flight from Lagos, Nigeria to Seattle in the United States of America, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) & (2) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006”.

Oladotun pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel, Adeola Elumaro, thereafter, applied for a trial date and for the defendant to be remanded in prison custody.

However, counsel for the defendant, Babafemi Iyiola, moved his bail application.

Justice Onyetenu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20 million and two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a civil servant not below grade level 14.

The case has been adjourned to February 26, 2019 for trial, and the defendant remanded in prison custody pending when he meets the bail conditions.

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay, has said that President Buhari does not gain anything by attending the presidential debate slated for today January 19th. According to Sagay, the other candidates that will be attending the debate are mere "motivational speakers" that have nothing to offer. The presidential debate is slated for 7pm tonight.

Sagay said this in an interview with Sun newspaper.

“

There is no law that is binding about participating in a debate. It is ideal for everybody to appear for the debate, but if you have nothing to lose by not debating, you may decide not to do so. It is a calculation. You know many of these people, particularly the motivational speakers, that is their life; they have nothing else doing. All that they are going to do is to ramble on and on before you know what is happening.

“It is not in his interest to go and debate with those people. Let us be practical and sensible about a situation. You go on areas, which you have your strength and concentrate on that. He has nothing to gain by debate." he said

Sagay tagged Buhari’s opponents as political dwarfs, stating that Buhari’s attendance at debates will only give relevance to the opposition.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said that the future of Nigeria is not in the hands of retired Generals but in the hands of the electorate.

Oshiomhole also alleged that some retired Generals and former Heads of State are against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He made this known on Saturday during the APC Presidential Campaign in Minna, Niger State.

He said that there was a plan to replay what occurred when Buhari was the Military Head of State and was removed due to his strict anti-corruption strategies.

“Many of the retired Generals are ganging up against President Buhari, that he will not do eight years while they did more than eight years.

“I remember they did it in the past but this time, the plan will not work. The future of Nigeria is not in the hands of retired Generals or former Heads of State. It is in the hands of the general people.”


The APC National Chairman added,”If Atiku had seen the mammoth crowd in Kaduna and Bauchi States that welcomed us, he would prefer to remain in the United States of America.”

He alleged that Atiku is working with Obasanjo to rig the elections as they did before, “everywhere PDP goes, they are saying the elections will be rigged. We need to play those videos of where Obasanjo and Atiku said that election must be won.”

Oshiomhole, however, stated that the APC does not need to rig an election as they remain a firm believer of one man, one vote.

He said, “We remain a firm believer of one man, one vote, one woman, one vote and one former head of state, one vote.”

In his address, President Buhari urged the people of Niger State to vote for him and the APC, promising to complete all the road networks across the state.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has returned to Nigeria.


Atiku left for the United States on Thursday.

Atiku’s plane touched down at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja around 3:30pm.


Meanwhile, the presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) will hold today, Saturday January 19, in Abuja.

The debate is scheduled to hold by 7pm at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, the same venue where the vice-presidential debate held on Friday, December 14, 2018.

It will be transmitted live on all BON member stations and its affiliates and streamed live on all social media platforms.


Only five political parties have been selected to participate.

They are: the Allied Congress Party Of Nigeria (ACPN), the Alliance For New Nigeria (ANN), All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and The Young Progressive Party (YPP).

This means the candidates expected at the debate are President Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Oby Ezekwesili, Fela Durotoye and Kingsley Moghalu.

A student of the University of Uyo has lost his fingers and is in need of emergency surgery after his fingers were blown off by fireworks.

According to reports, the young man was celebrating on the 1st of January when the accident happened.

The fireworks was believed to have seven rounds but as the boy held it in his hand and lit it, it exploded on the first round.

He is reportedly a final year student in the faculty of education, UNIUYO.

His information has been found to be false as both the EFCC and Justice Onnoghen have dispeled the claims.

A statement from the Lagos state police command has indicated that the acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, was the one who stopped the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edgal Imohimi.



Imohimi was meant to hand over to the new Commissioner, Kayode Egbetokun, today January but the handing over was stopped after a call from Abuja.



A statement released by the command's spokesperson, Chike Oti, this evening, says the acting IGP ordered that status quo be maintained with regards to who leads the state command. Read the statement below

'

'The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Inspector General of Police has graciously suspended the planned redeployment of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, from the command.

The IGP, in his wisdom, said the status quo should be maintained.
The CP, who is well known for his discipline and respect for orders, was about handing over to Mr Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday when he received the directive to suspend the ceremony and await further instructions.

As a command, we thought it necessary to inform the people of Lagos that the CP, Edgal Imohimi, going by this development, remains the head of the police in the state.

While humbled by the decision, the CP wishes to assure the people of Lagos that their safety and security remains his priority.

The Lagos Zonal office of EFCC, on January 15, 2018 arraigned one Blessing Aishatu Arowojobe before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a one-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N7,065,000 (Seven Million and Sixty Five Thousand Naira) only.



The petitioner alleged that Arowojobe, approached him with a business proposal sometime in January 2018. He further alleged that he later transferred a sum of N7, 065,000 to the defendant in February 2018 for the procurement of ‘garri’and cassava from Edo State.



The defendant, however, allegedly diverted the money to her personal use.



The count reads: "That you, Blessing Aishatu Arowojobe, between February 3 and February 22, 2018 at Lagos, within the Ikeja judicial Division, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N7, 065,000 (Seven Million, and Sixty-Five Thousand Naira) from one Tim Onyeator by falsely representing to him that it was the cost of ‘garri’ business and purchase of plots of land for cassava plants, which pretence you knew to be false."



The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge when it was read to her. In view of her plea, the prosecuting counsel, Franklin Ofoma, asked the court for a trial date and also prayed that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.



Counsel for the defendant, G.A. Elebhose, prayed the court for a short date to allow him file and serve a bail application on behalf of his client. Consequently, Justice Dada adjourned the matter to January 23 and February 11, 2019 for "hearing of the bail application and commencement of trial.



The defendant was remanded in the EFCC custody.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has reacted to the leaked audio tape making the rounds about the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi purportedly criticising President Muhammadu Buhari.


The party chairman believes the position held by the former governor of Rivers State in the APC is causing the opposition sleepless nights.

In a tweet on Monday via his official Twitter handle, @A_Oshiomhole, the former Governor of Edo State asked those circulating such information to do more.


Oshiomhole, in a post liked by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Adviser on Diaspora Matter, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said, “Rotimi Amaechi giving some people headache. This #DubaiStrategy isn’t working , tell them to do more.

“For the avoidance of doubt , Buhari taking us to the #NextLevel is non negotiable.

“And truth is, we have even more than #44reasonstoreelectbuhari . No alternative.”
