Valuation for an unquoted company like Opay while using the shareprice for other banks. Opay valuation that is based on a single analyst perception. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nigerians have a very annoying attitude and following basic rules is a problem. Yet, we keep blaming our leaders. The thread is for CLEARANCE SALES. If you post an item the public feels is not reflective of what a clearance sale should look like, it's normal for them to call you out. Since it's your item and you don't want to be called out. Why don't you create your own thread and advertise your item there? It's foolishness to try to sell a clearance sale item for profits because exchange rate has depreciated then argue when people call you out for it. Nobody is saying that you shouldn't profit from your stuff, but why can't you market it elsewhere? I would come online looking for what to buy, only to see three pages of nonsense arguments because someone can't follow something so basic. 21 Likes |

43Ronin: Keyword aggressive merger. There's no guarantee this would happen like that. Plus this requirement has levels to it. International, National and Regional. All banks know their levels and I personally feel that we won't see a lot of mergers. The goal has always been to increase the capital base of our banks so they can be able to absorb shocks. If you look at the fact that the last recapitalization was done in 2008, then you would know this is long overdue. Infact naira and dollar exchange then was barely 100 naira to $1, you know the rate today. Why would I need a Nigerian bank to be valued at $1m in 2008 and rn that's less than $100k, doesn't make any sense. So this is a welcomed development. It's not even supposed to make noise because most banks have been waiting for this. The only headache most banks have rn is the fact retained earnings was exempted otherwise it would have been a walk in the park for them. Best bet is to start pumping market price. If I need 100m GT bank shares to achieve this recapitalization. I would find a way to double my share price so I would need half of it to make it happen thereby reducing dilution. I honestly don't see why the Cardoso administration is being dragged for doing what Emefiele should have done. It's needed and very much necessary. |

Dobodobo04: In reality, you can maneuver a definition that looks like this is to mop up liquidity and it can work but in reality you use debt instruments to do that. When you use instruments, you can guide those that you expect to subscribe to them hence mopping up liquidity. When you ask banks to expand capital base, you don't exactly control where they source for funds which could make the desire to mop liquidity impossible. Say Access bank finally meet this recapitalization via foreign investment, would you say that the goal to mop up liquidity from the system was achieved? Meanwhile, if you were to issue Tbills via auction you know exactly who's buying. |

43Ronin: You do recapitalization to boost a banks ability to generate funds and also withstand adverse economic conditions. This is hinged on their position as a deposit bank, that hold funds on behalf of the public. MFBs have a required capital base because they function as banks do albeit in a lower capacity. Now, what characteristics do BDCs have for the CBN to ask for recapitalization lol? |

Business / Re: N500b Capital Base: Capital Needed By Commercial Banks With International Spread by Trojan8(m): 5:30pm On Mar 29 |
Bennycollins: The recapitalization excercise does not factor in retained earnings which is why most banks would be looking outward. If the entire shareholders fund including retained earnings was the basis of this recapitalization then most international banks won't have any issue. So trying to boost retained earnings is not the way to go. The way to go rn is to ramp up share prices on the bourse, so that they won't have to issue too many shares that would dilute earnings. Or try to get FDI to come in. 1 Like |

Lanruze: Valuation is an excel work that was done by an analyst especially for an unquoted company. If I take the valuation you gave, then Opay is the biggest company in Nigeria and that's a big joke. Talking about global assets like if I ask you to mention them, you would. In reality, most of the FUGAZ have branches that extends globally. So tell me, how's Opay more valuable? Access is about to buy one of the biggest banks in Kenya. Yet according to you, Opay with almost zero physical presence is Nigeria or Africa is like 10x bigger. Please na. |

Angelfrost: Aside the top five banks, the rest fall under national and regional cadre with a small capital requirement. The 500bn is for international banks which most do not fall under, I believe we won't see a loads of M&A. Just crazy rush to increase capital size, most likely route is FDI. 1 Like |

While I would have loved to blame you for kicking her out of your house by that time, the fact that she had the guts to ask you for tfare shows that she doesn't rate you. I mean, I told you that I lost money, needed you for something which you couldn't do for me, yet you still want me to give you tfare back home. Where did you find such a broke and entitled person? So she left her house knowing fully well what you wanted and didn't have the decency to take something with her for her transport. Lol |
