Literature / Can One No Longer Ask For Submissions/Reviews Of Literary Works In This Section? by TrueBrit: 10:39pm On Nov 06, 2009
I have not been on Nairaland in ages, so I do not know if there has been a paradigm shift in the modus operandi of this site or a recent volte face of the posting rules. However, I am more than a little shocked and extremely outraged that one power-crazed individual has deemed it fit to withdraw my posting privileges because I asked for reviews of literary works in THE LITERATURE SECTION, citing that I am guilty of posting spam [What! So asking for literature reviews in the literature section of Nairaland is now considered spamming? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!! angry angry angry angry].

What the hell is the world turning into? And where the heck is Seun? You need to call your minions to order man. [And Seun, if it was you who personally took that decision to withdraw my posting rights, SHAME ON YOU!!!!].

Oh and FYI, If my telling you the truth rubs you up the wrong way, you can go ahead and ban me. I have said what I logged on to say and it's not like I am here that often to be adversely affected.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Amazing Plane With More 150 Persons Crash Into The Sea And No Death! by TrueBrit: 3:59pm On Jan 16, 2009
Sapphic:

The Pilot was BRILLIANT and showed guts. Thank God nobody lost his/her life.

It is not a matter of bad mouthing Nigeria or being negative. It is a case of realism. Someone has to call a spade a spade abeg. If it was Nigeria, it is more likely than not that the people would have perished before or upon landing. But just for the sake of argument, if in Nigeria a pilot had gotten a plane safely on the River Niger or River Benue for example, many or most passengers would have likely DROWNED because our rescue services are practically non-existent (or if I want to be kind, they are grossly incompetent).

When Nigeria has something good to talk about, I'll be up there singing her praises. Until then, I'll tell it like it really is.

LMAO. . . true talk. lipsrsealed

p.s. true brit and H2O2, i must say you are both jerks!

ROFLMAO, coming from someone with limited powers of expression like you, I'll take that as a compliment.

teeyah:

i go with cristalz, all you people unduly criticizing the poem should go read some wole soyinka, then you'll understand the need for poetic liscence. and please, stop lashing at the poet because he wrote 'loosing' instead of 'losing'. it's a nice poem regardless of one incorrect grammar that was probably mistakenly typed, so why throw the baby away with it's bath water? Jeez, quit overreacting!

teeyah:

and before y'all pounce on me, I'll correct my mistake

While you are busy doing your corrections, you forgot that one. It's Poetic Licence (or License if you are using the American spelling). . . (oh, you are very welcome peabrain. . . LOL).

Oh, and by the way, if you are so confident of what you say, you should post with your regular Nairaland ID instead of creating a new ID. You do know that your ISP remains the same regardless, you jackass? . . .LMAO. cool grin cheesy wink

doyin13:

We Nigerians must really suck jare.

Yeah, you Nigerians must suck if you are the specimen or standard of what Nigerians are.

doyin13:

First loose for lose.

You should go back to the basics if you do not know that "Losing" is the present participle for the verb to "lose" and Loosing a present participle for loose (which if it had been properly used in this situation would be an adjective [but can also be a verb]. However if used in the manner prescribed by Biolabee (i.e. let loose), the word Loose would be an idiom). (You'd do best to go back to Primary School).

doyin13:

Now can't even understand the fundamental difference between a dic and a thesaurus.

It is apparent that it is YOU who does not know the difference between a dictionary and a thesaurus. If you had, you won't have tried to make a dumb joke about a thesaurus which was not relevant to ascertaining a simple distinction between "Losing" and "Loosing".

doyin13:

Bush people walahi

LMAO. . . That is no way to talk about yourself Mr. Doyin13 (nor about your country folk for that matter). . . LOL.

Anyway, I'll leave you to continue wallowing in your ignorance. I have pointed out a real error and the appropriate correction, if that does not sit well with you (or anyone else for that matter), then that's just TOO BAD.

@ Fe32, Apologies for the digression. Your poem is quite poignant, but I do believe that it still requires some work.

H2O2:

That's gay material right there, but there is no shame in it I guess undecided

How does a guy writing about a guy translate to his material being gay material? He wrote the poem as a woman talking about her hubby not as a man talking about his lover/partner (at least that is the impression given. Not that it would matter if it had been one guy talking about another). Would it be different if he had written a story or book as a female character who has these feelings about a man? All these homophobic expressions are not in good taste.

doyin13:

Biko well done o. . . .

Mr and Mrs. Thesaurus

Why on earth would anyone need a thesaurus for simple basic English. Moreover, you obviously do not know what a thesaurus is used for. There is no way you will look for the synonym of lose and have the thesaurus throw loose at you as one of the options. All that might have been required here is a dictionary NOT a thesaurus. Try not to punch above your weight (your sarcasm fell flat on its face).
Politics / Re: Chief Obafemi Awolowo: National Hero Or Villain? by TrueBrit: 8:22pm On Dec 13, 2008
Awolowo did nothing for Nigeria. All he did was enrich himself and his family. I do not know why our currency carries him. He is no role model. Bloody Bastard. May God scatter his decendants as he ruined lives.

hello nlanders, i'm loosing my husband, just want your view on a piece i wrote at one of those do nothin - sitdown and wonder times, don't write poems, written few essays, so wouldn't know what to call this, i read a lot of poems and essays though and really love the "love ones", this is totally mine , what do y'all think

I think I married an angel
And I think I’m loosing him

The whole world is tumbling down and I rush to him for help.
All I get is a smile; as if we won’t be touched

I do not know where he keeps his white linen,
I haven’t found a scratch mark on his body;
Perhaps where the wings used to be

He’s got the eyeballs of any man
But one you couldn’t look deep into for long
Because he’ll break into a smile
And I would too

Sometimes he stands by our window for hours
Simply looking at the world around us
At some point, he’ll smile;
Some point he wouldn’t.
But throughout these times, he never says a word

He speaks with such grace
And versed in all manner of learning
Whenever he plays his guitar;
It was heaven

Oh he loves to listen to country
The one’s that’ll talk about love,
Family, parenthood, childhood and the likes

He’s never fast paced
Often forgets things easily
Holds no worries about anything

Everyone should be respected
Everything should be taken lightly
I could never make him angry

I wish heaven would do an head count
And hope I could have the result
Because I know someone would be missing
And I think it’s my husband.

He speaks so soft
Most times hardly heared
I might have to strain my ears many a times to hear him
But with the simplicity with which day turns to night
And night to day
He speaks

And to me
He’s the greatest gift;
The greatest I could ever have wished for,
Though he never looked it when we met

But hour by hour
Day by day
His transformation is fast paced
He’s becoming more perfect a gift
Tending towards heaven

And yes, this is my single fear
I fear he’s going back
I think he’s leaving me

bluespice:

but i don't get how his being perfect translates to ur loosing him undecided

The word is Losing, NOT Loosing (It is a common mistake Nigerians make). undecided The two words have two different meanings

Islam for Muslims / Re: The Ignorance Of Muslims by TrueBrit: 6:05am On Dec 05, 2008
@ Olabowale, you call all these shoddy excuses an explanation? All you did was side step the issue comparing the violence advocated in your Quran to every scenario you could dig up. Just admit the basic fact. You religio advocates violence.

olabowale:

We are talking about Christianity. Is Jesus a Christian? Answer: No. If you can prove me wrong I will give you a huge reward. If you can't, then you need to start wearing jalabiya; thats my only demand on you.

I think this will help you to know that Islam is the religion of Jesus, who was never a Christian.

How foolish can you be? You have ranted and ranted until you spewed forth trash.

Jesus Christ could not be a christian because the religion is modelled on him. Thus christians are supposed to be Christ like and christianity is the art of being like Christ i.e. the practice of Jesus Christ's doctrines and principle (acting in a manner like Jesus Christ did).

Did your Quran tell you that Jesus was a muslim? what a friggin joke. I guess your Mohammed came before Jesus to this world then huh? LMAO. . . You guys forget that your Quran tells you that Jesus is actually the son of God (or rather, you always attempt to brush that very important fact under the carpet).

Gambians sound Nigerian though.

No they don't. I have numerous Gambian friends and when I was in Jos, I had numerous Gambian classmates and they do not sound Nigerian. Even if they do, that guy claiming to be Gambian is almost certainly Nigerian (or was raised or has lived in Nigeria for an extended period).

@Sisi Jinx, some people are looking for you in the literature section.

Politics / Re: Naval Officers Beat Up A Lady And Stripped Her - Watch Video by TrueBrit: 3:04pm On Nov 21, 2008
anonimi:

Victim of naval ratings’ assault back in hospital

Oluwole Josiah and Olalekan Adetayo

Miss Uzoma Okere, the lady assaulted by six naval ratings recently in Lagos, is back in hospital over complaints of lumbar pains.

Her father, Col. Emeka Okere (rtd) told our correspondent on Wednesday that Uzoma had complained of spinal problem even though she was still receiving treatment for the injuries she suffered from the beating by the naval ratings.

Okere said Uzoma had the problems some time last year, but was treated by Dr. Felix Ogedengbe of the National Hospital, Abuja.

He said, “When she had the problem, she was treated by Ogedengbe early this year, but she seems to have relapsed into the problem after the beating.”

Okere added that Uzoma would begin treatment at the National Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Ogedengbe.

Haba Naija people. The woman is already trying to make her case for compensation as airtight as possible. It does not matter that she had a pre-existing condition if the beating caused a relapse, then her chances of compensation are higher. Everyone knows that back injuries (or back problems) are notoriously hard to disprove as experts cannot always say whether or not a victim is lying. Her lawyer has advised her well, this new back problem claim should do the trick [I am not saying she is lying about her condition or vice versa, moreover, it serves those bloddy hooligans right. People/the military need to be taught a lesson on how to behave in public with civilians].

I hope people realise that he is not yet the 44th President of the USA, just the president elect. Like people have been saying, there is still time to assassinate him between now and his swearing into office (especially with the last threat when he was not even elected then). So we are not out of the woods yet.
