LiteratureRe: Black Is Beautiful (poem) by TrueBrit: 11:04pm On May 25, 2008
kene 20:
Black is Beautiful

When I born, I black
When I grow up, I black
When I go in Sun, I black
When I scared, I black
When I sick, I black
And when I die, I still black

And you white fellow

When you born, you pink
When you grow up, you white
When you go in sun, you red
When you cold, you blue
When you scared, you yellow
When you sick, you green
And when you die, you grey
And you calling me colored??

Just a poem
I have seen this poem in different forms over the years lipsrsealed

Not bad if not a tad too predictable with some typos. Kudos all the same.

Go to the Caine Prize Website and check out the info. It is clear and self explanatory. Only publishers can submit a piece of prose for the prize (thus your story must have been published).

LiteratureRe: Chimamanda Adichie - Half Of A Yellow Sun by TrueBrit: 8:59pm On Feb 26, 2008
@ Ibime,

There are other threads for this book and author (more than one). If you had bothered to search, you'd have seen them. There is no need for the duplicity.

Let's hope that Nigerians have a good showing this year. Last year the best we got was a highly commended mention for Molara Wood's story titled Trial by Water.

@all

lets make the meeting for on the 31st of january

however every one that is interested or that would be available should just make sure they post their confrimation on the 25th.

I was thinking what we would do is this, one of us would on the morning of the 25th would post his yahoo id here and then every one interested would add him and add this message

" anthropology" and then this person would group all such people under that group in his/her IM and on the 31st he would invite all of us to a conference.

How about that huh
I sure hope you mean ANTHOLOGY undecided

LiteratureRe: Do I Change The Title Of My Book? by TrueBrit: 10:21pm On Jan 19, 2008
@ Poster,
The answer is yes. There can be two great books with identical names. There are many books which share the same title. On the downside however, you should be prepared to have your book boosting up the sales of the other one with the same name as there will be some people who buy the other one when intending to buy yours and vice versa (this can happen when they do not know or remember the name of the author).

Fela-1:
Hey True Brit, being a Nairaland veteran yourself, your "verdict" is much solicited and will be much appreciated.
I am not a veteran. As you can see, I have only been a member for about 7 months. I am thinking of buying the book (In fact I have asked a friend to buy it for me in Naija) but I have bought a few books which were much hyped by some of the author's friends but ended up being practically crap. When I read it, if I find it to be worth the hype, I will big it up as well, if not, I will share my opinions too.
LiteratureRe: The Most Profound Nigerian Novel In Recent Times! by TrueBrit: 10:33pm On Jan 12, 2008
Abeg has anyone who has been a member of Nairaland for more than six months read this book? Please reply ASAP with your verdict if you have. Thanks.

I am so tired of hearing about her. I do empatise with her though because the rate at which she is going, she will be broke, alone, a wreck and a failure.

LiteratureRe: Sefi Atta by TrueBrit: 6:22pm On Jan 05, 2008
@Blacklion, I wonder how alluding that Twiliams might be Sefi Atta can be a reason for the ignorance and rudeness we have all seen displayed here by twiliams. And I do agree with SMC that when you look at the fact that Twiliams has only come on nairaland to talk only on sefi atta and nothing more, it does make you wonder. No one makes all their posts within some hours on one topic without there being some kind of weighted interest. undecided

I don't know the history behind them and don't understand why you need to tell someone your loling as if there is another way of laughing out besides loud.
It becomes relevant when you remember that there are different forms of expressing amusement. There are many ways to laugh. these include -

-Giggling
-Sniggering/Snickering
-Guffawing
-Chuckling
-Tittering
-Cackling
Etc.
LiteratureRe: Sefi Atta by TrueBrit: 7:45pm On Dec 31, 2007
Bravo SMC, I applaud the maturity and dexterity you have displayed here. Don't let anyone put you off. Keep it up.
If Twiliams claims she is a fan of Sefi Atta and is neither sefi atta herself or anyone connected or related to her, she is without a doubt the kind of fan anyone would be ashamed to have. All these market place brawling antics should be stopped.

Not your country of birth. Only the one you reside in. LOL wink

LiteratureRe: $10, 000 - $100, 000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Awards For Poets by TrueBrit: 9:01pm On Aug 29, 2007
Agreed - Up to a point.

However, there are more people who visit this forum who are not US citizens/legal US residents than there are who are. Putting that info on here would save many people wasting their time by visiting the other site if the only reason they will visit it is for the purpose of the award.
LiteratureRe: $10, 000 - $100, 000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Awards For Poets by TrueBrit: 6:30pm On Aug 29, 2007
You forgot to add the very important eligibility criteria that Work must be original poetry written originally in English by a poet who is a citizen or legal resident alien of the United States.

Terhemen:

You need 2 check out this latest Nigerian sensation, Damian Hono. This kid cracked new grounds with his debut titled "EDEN'S DIAMOND" a friend recommended it and when I ordered on amazon, for some reason I genuinely began to feel proud that I was Nigerian. Anyone knows him or his contacts please don't hesitate to share.
Ol' Boy, You sure say no be you be Damian Hono? This one wey you sign up to Nairaland just to promote another man's book? Abi dem dey pay you commission so? wink

The book does look interesting although from the synopsis, it sounds just a little too familiar.
CultureRe: Which Nigerian Language Is The Easiest To Learn? by TrueBrit: 11:45am On Jul 08, 2007
It depends on each person.
However, Hausa is the easiest Nigerian language to learn. Yoruba most definitely isn't.
CultureRe: Igbos Are The Most Achivers In Africa. by TrueBrit: 11:42am On Jul 08, 2007
Half of what the poster attributed to Igbo people is trash. The Igbos do not lead the movie industry. the fact that it is saturated by Igbo's does not mean they lead it.

Nnamdi Azikiwe was the first Nigerian president - True. But that was a ceremonial post with the powers resting with the Premier who was a northerner.

Regarding Biafra, the Igbo's had outside help from other countries as well and the main reason the war went on as long as it did was because the Nigerian army did not cut off their supplies/access soon enough. Your leader did not think things through properly before embarking on a "war" that would wipe out roughly a million of his people. Most people died as a result of starvation, malnutrition etc than from battles.

On the literary front, I don't see any Nobel Laureates from Igbo land.

I agree the Igbos are formidable businessmen but that is because they lay so much emphasis on money over and above everything else including education. 419ers are predominantly Igbo too.

I can go on and on but I won't.
