kene 20:I have seen this poem in different forms over the years ![]() |
bonjovi: stillwater:Not Necessarily. She clearly has more than one ID (and most likely got carried away and posted a reply using the wrong ID). |
Not bad if not a tad too predictable with some typos. Kudos all the same. |
Surely people have to read the book before they can rate it |
coo_pedro:Apparently None. ![]() |

Go to the Caine Prize Website and check out the info. It is clear and self explanatory. Only publishers can submit a piece of prose for the prize (thus your story must have been published). |
NaJa HaJe:It is, so is light fingered |
@ the bread man, In a nutshell - The Commonwealth Writers' Prize aims to reward the best Commonwealth fiction by both established and new writers, and to take their works to a wider audience. Publishers are invited to make entries online or by completing an entry form and sending it with three copies of each book to the appropriate regional chairperson and one copy to the Commonwealth Foundation Awarded annually, this major prize for fiction is fully international in its character, administration and judging. The Prize covers the Commonwealth regions of Africa, the Caribbean and Canada, Europe and South Asia and South East Asia and the South Pacific. Got that from the website as can you. For more info, go there [http://www.commonwealthfoundation.com]. |
@ Ibime, There are other threads for this book and author (more than one). If you had bothered to search, you'd have seen them. There is no need for the duplicity. |
Let's hope that Nigerians have a good showing this year. Last year the best we got was a highly commended mention for Molara Wood's story titled Trial by Water. |
smtprince:I sure hope you mean ANTHOLOGY ![]() |
Someone said Something similar in the not too distant past. |
@ Poster, The answer is yes. There can be two great books with identical names. There are many books which share the same title. On the downside however, you should be prepared to have your book boosting up the sales of the other one with the same name as there will be some people who buy the other one when intending to buy yours and vice versa (this can happen when they do not know or remember the name of the author). |
Fela-1:I am not a veteran. As you can see, I have only been a member for about 7 months. I am thinking of buying the book (In fact I have asked a friend to buy it for me in Naija) but I have bought a few books which were much hyped by some of the author's friends but ended up being practically crap. When I read it, if I find it to be worth the hype, I will big it up as well, if not, I will share my opinions too. |
Abeg has anyone who has been a member of Nairaland for more than six months read this book? Please reply ASAP with your verdict if you have. Thanks. |
I am so tired of hearing about her. I do empatise with her though because the rate at which she is going, she will be broke, alone, a wreck and a failure. |
@ Seun, Don't you mean emaciated (not emancipated)? ![]() |
@Blacklion, I wonder how alluding that Twiliams might be Sefi Atta can be a reason for the ignorance and rudeness we have all seen displayed here by twiliams. And I do agree with SMC that when you look at the fact that Twiliams has only come on nairaland to talk only on sefi atta and nothing more, it does make you wonder. No one makes all their posts within some hours on one topic without there being some kind of weighted interest. ![]() |
wendymanda:It becomes relevant when you remember that there are different forms of expressing amusement. There are many ways to laugh. these include - -Giggling -Sniggering/Snickering -Guffawing -Chuckling -Tittering -Cackling Etc. |
Bravo SMC, I applaud the maturity and dexterity you have displayed here. Don't let anyone put you off. Keep it up. If Twiliams claims she is a fan of Sefi Atta and is neither sefi atta herself or anyone connected or related to her, she is without a doubt the kind of fan anyone would be ashamed to have. All these market place brawling antics should be stopped. |
yicob:Not your country of birth. Only the one you reside in. LOL ![]() |
One important fact interested writers should know which isn't included in the above post is that only residents of the following countries are eligible to enter the Contest: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding the Province of Québec), China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States (the 50 states and D.C.), and the United Kingdom. |
Nah, that was someone else. Can't remember her name. |
Agreed - Up to a point. However, there are more people who visit this forum who are not US citizens/legal US residents than there are who are. Putting that info on here would save many people wasting their time by visiting the other site if the only reason they will visit it is for the purpose of the award. |
You forgot to add the very important eligibility criteria that Work must be original poetry written originally in English by a poet who is a citizen or legal resident alien of the United States. |
Terhemen:Ol' Boy, You sure say no be you be Damian Hono? This one wey you sign up to Nairaland just to promote another man's book? Abi dem dey pay you commission so? ![]() The book does look interesting although from the synopsis, it sounds just a little too familiar. |
It depends on each person. However, Hausa is the easiest Nigerian language to learn. Yoruba most definitely isn't. |
Half of what the poster attributed to Igbo people is trash. The Igbos do not lead the movie industry. the fact that it is saturated by Igbo's does not mean they lead it. Nnamdi Azikiwe was the first Nigerian president - True. But that was a ceremonial post with the powers resting with the Premier who was a northerner. Regarding Biafra, the Igbo's had outside help from other countries as well and the main reason the war went on as long as it did was because the Nigerian army did not cut off their supplies/access soon enough. Your leader did not think things through properly before embarking on a "war" that would wipe out roughly a million of his people. Most people died as a result of starvation, malnutrition etc than from battles. On the literary front, I don't see any Nobel Laureates from Igbo land. I agree the Igbos are formidable businessmen but that is because they lay so much emphasis on money over and above everything else including education. 419ers are predominantly Igbo too. I can go on and on but I won't. |
There is no significance of tribal marks in this modern day and age. |
