So I stumbled on this making the rounds and it got me wondering... *Do You Remember Forty-two Years Ago?*
ATTENTION
In case you don't know the root cause of our problems today, please take time out and read below:
As of 25/06/2022, the exchange rates were:
£1 = ₦770 $1 = ₦605 €1 = ₦625
42 years ago, precisely on 23/04/1980, the exchange rate was: $1 = 0.78k
Are you surprised?
Well, we were far more productive in 1980 than we are today.
In 1980 the key reasons for economic growth were as follows:
1. We were a net exporter of refined petroleum products. Today we import all our refined petroleum products.
2. We rode in locally assembled cars, buses and trucks. Peugeot cars in Kaduna and Volkswagen cars in Lagos.
3. Leyland produced trucks/buses in Ibadan and ANAMCO in Enugu also produced buses and trucks.
4. Steyr in Bauchi produced our Agricultural tractors. And it was not just Assembly, we were producing many of the components:
5. Vono products in Lagos produced the vehicle seats. 6. Exide in Ibadan produced the batteries, not just for Nigeria but for the entire West Africa.
7. IsoGlass and TSG in Ibadan produced the windshields.
8. Ferrodo in Ibadan produced the brake pads and discs
9. Dunlop produced Tyres in Lagos and Mitchelin Tyres were produced in Port Harcourt. And I mean tyres produced from rubber plantations located in Ogun, Bendel and Rivers State.
10. We were listening to Radio and watching television sets assembled in Ibadan by Sanyo.
11. We were using refrigerators, freezers and Airconditioners produced by Thermocool and Debo.
12. We were putting on clothes produced from the UNTL Textile Mills in Kaduna and Chellarams in Lagos. They were Not from imported cotton but from cotton grown in Nigeria.
13. Our water was running through pipes produced by Kwalipipe in Kano and Duraplast in Lagos .
14. Our toilets were fitted with WC produced in Kano and Abeokuta.
15 We were cooking with LPG gas stored inside gas cylinders produced at the NGC factory in Ibadan.
16. Our electricity was flowing through cables produced by the Nigerian Wire and Cable, Ibadan; NOCACO in Kaduna and Kablemetal in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
17. We had Bata and Lennards Stores producing the shoes we were putting on. The shoes were not from imported leather but from locally tanned leather in Kaduna.
18. We were mainly flying our Airways, (the Nigeria Airways), to most places in the world. The Nigeria Airways was about the biggest in Africa at the time.
19. Most of the foods we ate were grown or produced in Nigeria.
We were producing all of the above and many more in 1980
Today, we import almost everything. Isn't that alarming?
There lies the source of the terrible exchange rate we are experiencing today and everyone reading this has a critical role to play in reversing this very UGLY trend. We have been talking about these problems and more for ages.
It is not enough for us to complain about the exchange rate or point out what others are not doing or are failing to do. The key questions are:
1. What are we producing now? 2. What role are our so- called Leaders/ Politicians of today playing?
We are forever shying away from responsibility whereas it is a stack reality and if we don't deal with it, it won't go away. In fact it will get worse.
To our dear Politicians, if you don't have the capacity to RESET Nigeria to what it was at least back in 1980 then please stay in your house and don't waste our time.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!! Somebody please help me,is Nigeria even redeemable? |

Good move,Russia. You can't push me and tell me where to fall BrodaAgbaya: Cheers to the Mother bear.
I remember when the war started and how i was always arguing with my colleagues and bosses who said Russia will see pepper and their economy will crumble. Some said Russia will pull out in no time and even pay for the repair of Ukraine. LMAOOOO
Today, they all keep quiet like they ain`t seeing Russia show US and Europe that same pepper, sanctions my slightly dark, hairy booty.
I have always loved Putin, my mentor and strong man. I had plans of joining the military, rising tru the ranks and taking over the country then leading it to real greatness on the African continent not the fake African giantism that the current C -in-C and his fellow urchins have degraded the country to.
Unfortunately i ended up in the bank making some 6million annually with broken dreams banging around in my head each time my boss makes me get up from my system.
Sad Don't give up, it's not late yet |

twentyfivekobo: Sigh
GEJ was a failure. Just Like Buhari is now.
Under his regime security was bad, and as for the economy...the fact that we were borrowing to pay salaries by early 2015, does that tell you something. Plus he left us with subsidies in the power sector, which was part of the contract he signed to privatise the sector...which is one reason why we haven't had power today.
Did I mention security was bad? Bombing all over the North, Boko essentially running three states, and the usual herdsmen crisis.
How about petrol? The man did not remove fuel subsidy...but increased the amount of money spent on it...and yes, he did not build a single refinery while in office. Because of his flawed subsidy process, we lost billions, and had to pay billions more, even after he left power.
We even squandered billions of naira from the oil boom we had then due to high oil prices, and did not save for the rainy day then.
And no, I am not saying this because I hate Southerners..I am even one self...or because I think Buhari is better...he is NOT...and he has betrayed the feelings of many Nigerians, and the change promised in 2015 has not come. Honestly even the security situation is worse than it was in 2015...especially in the North, that voted for him.(Lord knows I did not vote for him at all, because let's be frank, we need new people, not old people.). Buhari has failed...and in ways worse than his predecessor. Now, we cannot travel safely by road, and we are under threat from ISWAP....and the Senate won't discuss the problem at all. Haba.
But there is a reason why we have Buhari, and it was because of the failures of GEJ. And what annoys me is that his supporters are still in denial about that failure. Even when he was in power, all failures of the regime were blamed on the opposition. If he had done better, we won't have had Buhari ruling us at all.
And let's stop all this 'He meant well'. That's how they sold Buhari to us...he'meant well' in 1984...let's vote him again in 2015. See how well it has worked out for us. True as your claims,Buhari was not a better option. He has proven to be worse! And nobody is denying Jonathan's incapacity, nobody! Just that Buhari is no better,no matter how well packaged. |

If kano is 14m we have like 6m Easterns there
If Lagos is 11m 5m is Easterns
Same apply in every state's of the federation
So this time around the 5% people will be the deciders ..
There's always a time for everything
We are not loud mouthed like those oil soup people that virtually hype everything about them including the pepper they put in their foods .
Be obident and enjoy the fruit of the land Oga you really do not have to insult any tribe to make your point... the oil soup and what not is totally uncalled-for. |

Meanwhile, common sense is not common with our leaders. The army don't have latest weapons but yet this Fulani are mor exposed to arms.
There is something fishy that the government is not saying.
Meanwhile, by all means APC must not hold on to power, not bcoz of tinunbu but bcoz of his deputy.
Mark today's date, the whole northern region will be burnt with the two tribe conflict, and the flames and heat will spread across other region.
Peter Obi is not the best option but at least he is more expose and selfless than the pdp and APC candidates. Good! The problem with our politicians is selfishness, greed. They're not honest with themselves. We know what our problems are,we just don't want to face them and phase them out |
