Why did he raise him up?

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Nevertheless, Mohammed was just an ordinary man that was confused, he was ignorance to the real truth and that make him to end up as a rebel, killing and maiming to win territories, you can't expect God to raise such a mere man up..
Don't be ignorance too, so that you won't end up like him, try to go along with reasonable people and learn humbly from them instead of misinterpreting and misunderstanding the values of Christianity.

Christianity EtcAwakening Jehovah’s Witnesses By Dismantling The Watchtower by truthman2013(op): 2:29pm On Oct 03, 2015

The Watchtower society is the main legal entity used worldwide by Jehovah’s Witnesses to direct, administer and develop doctrines for the religion. It is a major publisher of religious publications, including books, tracts, magazines and Bibles. Since its inception, the Watchtower Society has claimed to be the only organisation on earth that speaks on behalf of God (whom they call “Jehovah”) and the only means by which God directs his true followers today. On this basis it exerts tremendous control over just about every aspect of the lives of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Here are just some examples of the claims the Watchtower Society has made about itself:

[b] “The Watchtower is not the instrument of.any man or set of men, nor is it published according to the whims of men. No man’s opinion is expressed in The Watchtower…” [Watchtower 1931 Nov 1 p.327]

“The Lord gives interpretation to his prophecies and causes the same to be published… As certain as the Lord has caused these truths to be published in The Watchtower.” [Watchtower, 1936 Mch 1 p.72–73]

“It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the “slave” as we would to the voice of God,because it is His provision.” [Watchtower 1957 Jun 15 p.370]

“The holy spirit is the active force of the living God, which he sends out through his Son, Christ Jesus, and which operates toward Jehovah’s people, enlightening and directing his theocratic organization on the earth today as it did in the days of the apostles.” [Watchtower 1959 Apr 1 p.219]

“Consider, too, the fact that Jehovah’s organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God’s holy spirit or active force. (Zech. 4:6) Only this organization functions for Jehovah’s purpose and to his praise. To it alone God’s Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book…” [Watchtower 1973 Jul 1 p.402] [/b]

As you can see, the Watchtower Society has made some bold claims about itself over the last century. Not only has it claimed that it is being inspired like the apostles of Jesus were, but also that any opinions it gives are not of human origin but rather that of God. They have positioned themselves as the sole mouthpiece of God on earth.

Watchtower magazine, published in 1931 November 1, p.327

A LEGACY OF MISTAKES AND CONTRADICTIONS

It’s interesting to note that the Watchtower Society has admitted that there are mistakes in the Bible:

“As everyone knows, !(there are mistakes in the Bible and there never has been a book written yet that is perfect that has.been written by any human hand.” [The Watch Tower April 15 1928 p.123]

https://manyprophetsonemessage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/inside-apr-1928.png
Watchtower magazine, published in 1928 April 15, p.123

Now if the Bible can contain mistakes as the Watchtower Society concedes, then isn’t it reasonable and logical to conclude that their own publications will also contain mistakes?
When the teachings of the Watchtower Society are put under the microscope what we find is that far from being a divinely inspired organisation, it is in fact a very fallible human affair as its doctrine over the years are full of mistakes and contradictions..We are going to focus on the Watchtower Society’s shifting stance on organ transplants in order to disprove their claims of divine inspiration. Here are a chronological series of quotes from the Watchtower Society’s publications:

[b] “The question of placing one’s body or parts of one’s body at the disposal of men of science or doctors at one’s death
for purposes of scientific experimentation or replacement in others.is frowned upon by certain religious bodies. However, it does not seem that any Scriptural principle or law is involved. It therefore is something that each individual must decide for
himself.” [Watchtower 1961 August 1 p.480]

“When there is a diseased or defective organ, the usual way health is restored is by taking in nutrients. The body uses the food eaten to repair or heal the organ, gradually replacing the cells. When men of science conclude that this normal process will no longer work and they suggest removing the organ and replacing it directly with an organ from another human, this is simply a shortcut. Those who submit to such operations are thus living off the flesh of another human. That is cannibalistic. However, in allowing man to eat animal flesh Jehovah God did not grant permission for humans to try to perpetuate their lives by cannibalistically taking into their bodies human flesh, whether chewed or in the form of whole organs or body parts taken from others.” [The Watchtower Nov. 15 1967 p.702]

“Regarding the transplantation of human tissue or bone from one human to another, this is a matter for conscientious decision by each one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some Christians
might feel that taking into their bodies any tissue or body part from another human is cannibalistic… Other sincere Christians today may feel that the Bible does not definitely rule out medical transplants of human organs… It may be argued, too, that organ transplants are different from cannibalism since the “donor” is not killed to supply food.” [The Watchtower March 15 1980 p.31] [/b]

As you can see, the Watchtower has moved back and forth on this issue over the years, by first permitting organ transplants and leaving the choice down to each Jehovah’s Witness, then prohibiting them and condemning all those who participate as cannibals and finally contradicting themselves again by saying that is down to the discretion of each Jehovah’s Witness whether they view it as cannibalistic or not. This is by no means a trivial issue that can be simply dismissed, it is medical in nature and therefore has resulted in the unnecessary suffering and death of some of its members. When God directs a person or organisation, then their theology should not contradict itself in such a manner, otherwise what’s the purpose of God’s direction?

CONCLUSION

Given the difficult and protracted circumstances of the Qur’an’s revelation, one would expect it to be in disorder. However as this article has demonstrated, any such understanding reveals a lack of insight into the Qur’an’s sophisticated structure. Upon deep analysis of the Qur’an’s composition we see that it exhibits a remarkable structure. It is simply impossible for Prophet Muhammad, given that he could neither read nor write and had no reputation as a poet or literary expert, to have engineered such a structure himself. This represents compelling evidence that his inspiration for the Qur’an was God Almighty, as the Qur’an itself states:

“Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him. He was taught by one mighty in Power.” [Chapter 53, verses 2-5]

Here is a table showing parallels between the corresponding sections (the correspondences here are indicated horizontally):

https://manyprophetsonemessage.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/baqarah-ring-summary.png

A noteworthy point is that the middle of Surah Al-Baqarah, the 143rd verse, mentions an important turning point for the Muslims:

Thus We have appointed you a middle nation, that ye may be witnesses against mankind, and that the messenger may be a witness against you. And We appointed the qiblah which ye formerly observed only that We might know him who followeth the messenger, from him who turneth on his heels. In truth it was a hard (test) save for those whom Allah guided. But it was not Allah’s purpose that your faith should be in vain, for Allah is Full of Pity, Merciful toward mankind. [Chapter 2, verse 143]

This turning point was the change in qiblah, the direction of the daily prayers, from Jerusalem to Makkah. This represented a big test for the believers. We find the mention of this important turning point in exactly the middle of the chapter. Moreover this verse even contains the word ‘middle’! Finally, it’s worth paying special attention to a particular verse of Surah al-Baqarah, the 255th verse known as ‘Ayat al-Kursi’. This verse is considered the most excellent verse of the Qur’an, according to Prophet Muhammad. Its memorisation is highly encouraged, and it just so happens that it too exhibits a ring composition:

https://manyprophetsonemessage.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/ayat-kursi.jpg

Notice that the middle of Ayat al-Kursi mentions ‘before’ and ‘after’ which could be yet another allusion to the mirroring of ring composition.

It’s worth highlighting that not only does Ayat al-Kursi contain its own ring composition, but it is also positioned as a sub ring within two larger rings – a concentric ring composition:

https://www.manyprophetsonemessage.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Multiple-levels.png

Raymond K Farrin, author of “Surat al-Baqarah – A Structural Analysis”, concludes on Surah al-Baqarah’s ring composition:

“Indeed this sura exhibits marvellous justness of design. It is precisely and tightly arranged, as we have seen, according to the principles of ring composition; even the section lengths fit
perfectly in the overall scheme. Moreover, the precise structure serves as a guide, pointing to key themes in the sura. These occur, according to the logic of the pattern, at the centers of individual rings and, particularly, at the center of the whole sura. At the center of the sura, again, one finds instructions to face Mecca — this being a test of faith;identification of the Muslims as a new, middle community; and the message that all people, regardless of their qibla or spiritual orientation, should race to do good and God will bring them together.”

BENEFITS OF RING COMPOSITION

Ring composition has great exegetical application. For a ring structure not only holds the text together, but also gives focus to the important words and themes. By means of concentric patterning, ring composition calls attention to the centre – we are drawn to look here for the essential message. As Mary Douglas notes concisely, “The meaning is in the middle.” [4]

It also serves as an aid in memorisation, especially useful given the length of Surah al- Baqarah. In his study of ancient poetry, Cedric Whitman found that ring composition simultaneously performed both aesthetic and mnemonic functions. It aids memorisation by permitting the oral poet to easily recall the basic formulae of the composition during performances [5].

RING COMPOSITION IN OTHER LITERATURE

Some critics may point out that texts prior to the Qur’an had this literary style and therefore we cannot use this as evidence of the Qur’an’s divine origin. They put forward examples from Mary Douglas’ book “Thinking in Circles: An Essay on Ring Composition” which states that ring compositions are found throughout ancient Eastern Mediterranean literature (like Homer’s Iliad) as well as the Bible.

Comparing the Qur’an’s structure to that of other texts is like comparing night and day for the following reasons:

1. Prophet Muhammad could not read or write, so it’s a lot more difficult to plan such a structure when all you have to go on is memory (the Qur’an was revealed orally of course).

2. Prophet Muhammad was not a poet nor did he have any literary reputation, and yet the Qur’an has this remarkable structure. How can a person with little to no experience or skill in poetry/literature achieve such sophistication?

3. The verses of the Qur’an were not revealed in sequential order like with conventional texts. Surah al-Baqarah, the example covered in this article, was revealed over a period of many years with its verses interspaced with the revelation of verses from other chapters. Unlike conventional texts this makes implementing such a structure much more difficult.

4. Many verses of the Qur’an are linked to questions and events that occurred unexpectedly, so unless a person can predict the future, how could a human being plan the verses ahead of time when they were not in his control? Other texts such as the Bible were written by multiple authors long after Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them) which would make planning such a structure much easier.

5. The Qur’an did not undergo any editorial process, Prophet Muhammad would fix the positions of the new verses as soon as they were revealed to him. With each new verse, again which were tied to external questions and events that were outside of his control, he would not go off and review what had been previously revealed and see where he can fit them in order to maintain this ring structure. So spontaneous revelation was immediately followed by the placement of the verse into the Qur’an, and once placed it was fixed with no opportunity for later editing. Other texts such as the Bible show evidence of multiple authors and several stages of editing, again making is much easier to achieve such a structure.

In summary, it is the unique circumstances of the revelation of the Qur’an that make its ring structure a strong argument for its divine origin.

Christianity EtcThe Remarkable Structure Of The Qur’an by truthman2013(op): 11:06am On Oct 03, 2015

The Qur’an is a very unique book in terms of its composition. Its 114 chapters (or ‘Surahs’ in Arabic) are not arranged chronologically or thematically. Even within the individual chapters, numerous topics can be covered with sudden switches from one topic to another and then back again.

This unique structure at face value may appear to be disjointed. However, modern research has discovered a sophisticated structural coherence in the Qur’an known as ring composition.

THEORY OF RING COMPOSITION

Ring composition has been explained by Mary Douglas in her book “Thinking in Circles: An Essay on Ring Composition”. In
ring compositions there must be a correspondence between the beginning and the end. It is structured as a sort of circle, or
mirror image. The central meaning of the text is placed at its centre. The second half mirrors the first half, in reverse order — e.g., A, B, C, D, C’, B’, A’.

The correspondence usually involves the repetition of a striking or evident word or phrase, and there must be a clear thematic connection between the two sections. The correspondence serves to complete the circle and provide closure. Also, the internal sections – within the ring – must correspond to each other.

To put it in simple terms; ring composition is the equivalent of putting a mirror in the middle – what is mentioned in the first half will be reflected in the second half.

THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE QUR’AN’S REVELATION

Before getting into the ring composition of the Qur’an, it’s worth discussing the background and circumstances of the Qur’an’s revelation:
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, could not read or write. The Qur’an itself confirms this:

“Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel…” [Chapter 7, verse 157]

Throughout his life, prior to Prophethood, Muhammad did not have a reputation for poetry. In fact we know from history that at a personal level he disliked it and wasn’t a skilled poet. There are instances where he attempted to relate some poetry and would jumble the words up [1]:

Qatadah narrated, Aisha was asked: Did the Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, use to relate anything from poetry?” She said: It was most detestable thing to him except that (at times) he used to relate a verse from the person of Banu Qays and he jumbled it up. Abu Bakr told him it was not like that. So the Prophet of Allah said, “By Allah I am not a poet and neither is it appropriate for me.”

The Qur’an was originally delivered to its first audience in the form of speech through recitation. Remarkably the Qur’an did not have the opportunity for an editorial process, as many verses were revealed on the spot as a response to unexpected questions and challenges that were brought forward to Prophet Muhammad from both believers and non-believers.

The 6,236 verses that make up the Qur’an were revealed gradually over a period of 23 years. It did not go through multiple revisions as it was revealed:

And those who disbelieve say, “Why was the Qur’an not revealed to him all at once?” Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly. [Chapter 25, verse 32]

In light of these circumstances, one would expect the structure of the Qur’an to be incoherent. What we find however, is that it exhibits the sophisticated structure of ring composition.

THE RING COMPOSITION OF THE QUR’AN

Surah al-Baqarah, which we are going to use as a case study in this article, happens to be the longest chapter of the Qur’an and was revealed over a span of over nine years.

Surah Al-Baqarah consists of 286 verses and can be divided into nine main sections based on theme/topic (verse numbers in parenthesis):

1. Faith vs. unbelief (1 – 20).
2. Allah’s creation and knowledge (21 – 39).
3. Deliverance of Law to Children of Israel (40 – 103).
4. Abraham was tested (104 – 141).
5. Ka’ba is the new qibla (142 – 152).
6. Muslims will be tested (153 – 177).
7. Deliverance of Law to Muslims (178 – 253).
8. Allah’s creation and knowledge (254 – 284).
9. Faith vs. unbelief (285 – 286).

Re-arranging this list to fit into a ring composition:

A Faith vs. unbelief (1 – 20).
——–B Allah’s creation and knowledge (21 – 39).
————-C Deliverance of Law to Children of Israel (40 – 103).
————————D Abraham was tested (104 – 141).
——————————–E Ka’ba is the new qibla (142 – 152).
————————D’ Muslims will be tested (153 – 177).
—————-C’ Deliverance of Law to Muslims (178 – 253).
——–B’ Allah’s creation and knowledge (254 – 284).
A’ Faith vs. unbelief (285 – 286).

The coherence in the form of a ring composition is best illustrated in the diagram below (please click on picture to enlarge) [2]:

https://manyprophetsonemessage.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/baqarah-ring-diagram.png

If we examine the 9 sections we find that they contain sub-ring compositions. So what we have is rings within rings (please click on pictures to enlarge) [3]:

Christianity EtcRe: The Evidence Of The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ by truthman2013: 1:01pm On Sep 09, 2015
Rilwayne001:
A god would not have needed to move the stone but the storyteller certainly did! With the stone still in place who would have known something miraculous had happened?

A god that materializes in a closed room in Jerusalem, on the shore of Lake Tiberias, or on a mountain in Galilee, most certainly needed no stone moved to allow him to leave a tomb. But the narrator of a sacred play needed the "moved stone" as a theatrical flourish, in order that female visitors to the tomb (and the audience) could see "the body ... gone!" We are talking theatre, not history. undecided

[b] Of course it would have made a lot of sense had the angel that appeared to them move the stone in their presence to show them that indeed their Lord has risen, but instead, the moved stone has left more problem in the account. The visitors receive an explanation from the conveniently waiting angel (a "man in white" – "It was a resurrection!" )

This man/angel verbalizes the sacred message; Jesus Christ is not here, but is risen, and will be seen again in Galilee. Thus the first "witness" to the resurrection is neither man nor woman but angel . The bewildered women flee the tomb, having received the angel's assurance that a resurrection has occurred – one absurdity vouching for another.

Presumably, the women remembered the angel's injunction to tell the disciples, but, "afraid", they tell no one (Mark 16:cool. And yet, if the women told no one, how could Mark be telling his story?

The author of Matthew on the other hand adds drama to the minimalistic yarn inherited from Mark , notably a "first appearance" of the resurrected Jesus.

Matthew begins by introducing tomb guards – unknown to Mark , or anyone else for that matter. The guards, in fact, will get more attention than the resurrection itself.
Matthew introduces an earthquake: Matthew 28.2.

Notice that Matthew solves one riddle left by Mark by having the angel move the stone.

Matthew wants something more compelling than the testimony of an angel, so he intrudes an appearance of Jesus himself into the path of the running women. But Matthew has no new dialogue; his Jesus merely repeats words already spoken by the angel in Mark. The women say nothing but "clasp the feet" of the risen saviour: "Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshipped him."
Now that Jesus gives "evidence" of his own resurrection, and the same instruction to "go to Galilee", the role of the angel in mark has become redundant and the text reads oddly!

While these dramatic events are in progress the enigmatic guards, more seriously frightened than the women (!) " shake and become like dead men." Matthew turns his attention back to these traumatized wimps, using them as a ploy to start a so-called "rumour" that Christian's have found useful ever since – the "stolen body" straw man:

Matthew 28.11-15 " While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. When the chief priests had met with the elders and DEVISED A PLAN, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away [size=13pt] WHILE WE WERE ASLEEP [/size] .' If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day ." –

This^ entire episode is directed at the objection that if the body wasn't in the tomb then an obvious explanation would be that somebody had removed it. The guards and the "sealing of the sepulchre" are intended to silence this objection.

Why did the guards have to be made "as dead men"? Surely extra witnesses to the momentous event would have been useful? Precisely because the story is a fabrication. If it had really happened the testimony of a squad of temple guards, not followers of Jesus, would have started a chain of events that just did not happen.

As a "real event" the passage is beset with problems. [u] How on earth did the comatose guards know "everything that had happened"? How could they admit to being asleep yet be certain that the disciples had stolen the body? Even more difficult to explain is how is the author of Matthew could himself possibly know of the dastardly plan hatched by the chief priests and elders? [/b]

This news has been circulating around recently that a Ka'abah has been built in Nigeria . Is this true? or is it some other African country?
This was built to prepare those going to hajj on how to perform hajj rites. This is more like an edifice for practise and not what you wanted us to believe.

So I will ask: Where did you get the picture from?

If its true please tell me the location. make I go circle it.
We should be asking you, atleast you got the picture from somewhere, and it is either you took the pics at the location or downloaded it from a particular website, Perhaps you should provide the link.

Christianity EtcRe: Quran 9:5 – Sword Verse by truthman2013(op):

As it is shown, in that context, those pagans who violated their treaties and attacked the Muslims first, basically, the Muslims were allowed to fight back in self-defence.

Commentary on 9:5 by Muslim and non-Muslim scholars

Ustadh Faraz A. Khan commenting on Quran 9:5 says, Context of the Verse of the Sword [9:5]

…… .the Verse of the Sword deals specifically with the situation of Meccan polytheists breaking peace treaties and openly declaring war on the Muslim polity. The verse, then, commands the Muslim state to take up arms and defend itself against those that breached their covenants and attacked out of.treachery.
This explanation is confirmed by the most reliable Imams of Qur’anic exegesis [tafsir], including Imam Razi, Imam Jamal, Imam Zamakhshari, Imam Baydawi, Imam Nasafi, Imam Biqa`i, and others. [Razi, Mafatih al-Ghayb; Jamal, Hashiyat al-Jalalayn;Zamakhshari, Kashshaf; Baydawi, Anwar al-Tanzil;Nasafi,Madarik al-Tanzil; Biqa`i, Nadhm al-Durar] The verse, therefore, can by no means be generalized to refer to all disbelievers. Such an interpretation is not confirmed by scholars of Qur’anic interpretation. It would be both contrary
to the intent of the verses as well as disastrous for the security of both Muslim and non-Muslim citizens and nation-states.
[1]

Islamic Scholar Muhammad Asad commentary

“5 Lit., ‘Until their term’. 6 According to a pre-Islamic custom prevalent in Arabia, the months of Muharram, Rajab, Dh’l-Qa’dah and Dhu’l-Hijjah were considered ‘sacred’ in the sense that all tribal warfare had to cease during those months. It was with a view to preserving these periods of truce and thus to promoting peace among the frequently warring tribes that the Qur’an did not revoke, but rather confirmed, this ancient custom. See also 2:194 and 217
7 Read in conjunction with the preceding verses, as well as with 2:190-194, the above verse relates to warfare already in progress with people who have become guilty obligations and of aggression.
8 I.e., ‘do everything that may be necessary and advisable in warfare’. The term marsad denotes ‘any place from which it is possible to perceive the enemy and to observe his movements (Manar x, 199). 9 As I have pointed out on more than one occasion, every verse of the Qur’an must be read and interpreted against the background of the Qur’an as a whole .The above verse, which speaks of a possible conversion to Islam on the part of ‘those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God’ with whom the believers are at war, must, therefore, be considered in conjunction with several fundamental Qur’anic ordinances. One of them, ‘There shall be no coercion in matters of faith’ (2:256) , lays down categorically that any attempt at a forcible conversion of unbelievers is prohibited-which precludes the possibility of the Muslims demanding or expecting that a defeated enemy should embrace Islam as the price of immunity. Secondly, Qur’an ordains ‘Fight in God’s cause against those who wage war against you; but do not commit aggression, for, verily, God does not love aggressors’ (2:190) ; and, ‘if they do not let you be, and do not offer you peace, and do not stay their hands, seize them and slay them
whenever you come upon them: and it is against these that we have clearly empowered you [to make war]’ (4:91). Thus, war is permissible only in self- defence (see surah 2, notes 167 and 168, with the further proviso that ’if they desist- behold, God,God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace’ (2:192), and ‘if they desist, then all hostility shall cease’ (2:193) . Now the enemy’s conversion to Islam- expressed in the words, ‘if they repent, and take to prayer [lit., ‘establish prayer’] and render the purifying dues [zakah]’- is no more than one, and by no means the only, way of their ‘desisting from hostility’; and the reference to it in verses 5 and 11 of this surah certainly does not imply an alternative of ‘conversion or death’, as some unfriendly critics of Islam choose to assume. Verse 4 and 6 give a further elucidation of the attitude which the believers are enjoined to adopt towards such of the unbelievers are not hostile to them. (In this connection, see also 60:8-9).” [2]

In the Book ‘Understanding the Qur’an Themes and Style’, Dr. Muhammad Abdel Haleem writes:

“We must also comment on another verse much
referred to but notoriously misinterpreted and taken
out of context – that which became labelled as the
‘Sword verse’ : “…Then when the sacred months have
passed, slay the idolaters wherever you find them, take
them and besiege them and prepare for them every
ambush….” [ 9:5 ] The hostility and “bitter enmity”
of the polytheists and their fitna [ persecution,
2:193 ; 8:39 ] of the Muslims grew so great that
the unbelievers were determined to convert the
Muslims back to paganism or finish them off . “…
They would persist in fighting you until they turn you
back from your religion, if they could….” [ 2:217 ] It
was these hardened polytheists in Arabia, who
would accept nothing other than the expulsion of
the Muslims or their reversion to paganism, and
who repeatedly broke their treaties, that the
Muslims were ordered to treat in the same way – to
fight them or expel them….Even with such an enemy
Muslims were not simply ordered to pounce on them
and reciprocate by breaking the treaty themselves;
instead, an ultimatum was issued, giving the enemy
notice, that after the four sacred months mentioned in
9:5 above, the Muslims would wage war on them. The
main clause of the sentence “kill the polytheists” is
singled out by some Western scholars to represent the
Islamic attitude to war; even some Muslims take this
view and allege that this verse abrogated other verses
on war. This is pure fantasy, isolating and
decontextualizing a small part of a sentence. The
full picture is given in 9:1-15, which gives many
reasons for the order to fight the polytheists. They
continuously broke their agreements and aided
others against the Muslims, they started hostilities
against the Muslims, barred others from becoming
Muslims, “expelled” Muslims from the Holy Mosque
and even from their own homes. At least eight
times the passage mentions their misdeeds against
the Muslims . Consistent with restrictions on war
elsewhere in the Qur’an, the immediate context of this
“Sword Verse” exempts such polytheists who do not
break their agreements and who keep the peace
with the Muslims [9:7], it orders that those
enemies seeking safe conduct should be protected
and delivered to the place of safety they seek [9:6] .
The whole of this context to v. 5, with all its
restrictions, is ignored by those who simply isolate
one part of a sentence to build their theory of war
in Islam on what is termed “The Sword Verse” even
when the word sword does not occur anywhere in
the Qur’an .” [3]
Christianity EtcQuran 9:5 – Sword Verse by truthman2013(op): 9:59am On Sep 05, 2015

Whenever critics bring verses of the Quran to demonstrate that Islam is violent, that it sanctions Muslims to kill non-Muslims (as assumed by them), they do a cut and paste of a verse and try hide context of the passage. They don’t show the previous and the verses after, what it actually says. Take for example this passage,

“So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them , and take them captive and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them.” – Quran 9:5

According to critics (especially hate-mongering Christian missionaries), they say, ‘this verse approves the killing of non-Muslims anywhere at any-time.’ We know this is a lie spread by Islamophobes in order to frighten people about Islam. This passage has always been quoted out of context, they never post other verses. 9:1-14, for if they did, people would find out that it says opposite of what they have stated. Let’s read from 9:1 – 9:14,

9:1 [This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists.
9:2 So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.
9:3 And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away – then know that you will not cause failure to Allah . And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment.
9:4 Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].
9:5 And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent , establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful .
9:6 And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah. Then deliver him to his place of safety . That is because they are a people who do not.know.
9:7 How can there be for the polytheists a treaty in the sight of Allah and with His Messenger, except for those with whom you made a treaty at al-Masjid al-Haram? So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].
9:8 How [can there be a treaty] while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not observe concerning you any pact of kinship or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse [compliance], and most of them are defiantly disobedient.
9:9 They have exchanged the signs of Allah for a small price and averted [people] from His way. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.
9:10 They do not observe toward a believer any pact of kinship or covenant of protection. And it is they who are the transgressors.
9:11 But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then they are your brothers in religion; and We detail the verses for a people who know.
9:12 And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths [sacred] to them; [fight them that] they might cease.
9:13 Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger , and they had begun the attack upon you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are [truly] believers.
9:14 Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people.

When we read from verse 1, it states that there was a treaty which the Pagan Arabs broke. Thus, Allah in the Quran says, that he gave them four months. Verse 9:4 states that Allah will punish those who broke the treaty, this verse is only aimed at those who broke the treaty, it did not affect those who abided by the treaty. When we read the passage (9:5), it is evident, it’s talking about a war with the pagan Arabs and Muslims. This was a historical event that happened in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (p). Furthermore, verse 9:13 provides proof that it was the Pagans who started this war, the verse states, “Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger, and they had begun to attack you first ?” This is proof that Prophet Muhammad (p) did not start this war, but it was those treacherous Pagan Arabs that started to expel and started fighting the Messenger.

Two non-Muslim translations of the Quran on 9:13,

John Medows Rodwell What! will ye not fight against those Meccans who have broken their oaths and aimed to expel your Apostle, and attacked you first? Will ye dread them? God is more worthy of your fear, if ye are believers!

And

N J Dawood Will you not fight against those who have broken their oaths and conspired to banish the Apostle? They were the first to attack you . Do you fear them? Surely God is more deserving of your fear, if you are true believers.

Factors of breakers of the treaty ”Will you not fight people who
A) broke their oaths
B) determined to expel the Messenger
C) attacked you first
Do you fear them? But God has more right that you should fear him, if you are believers Surah 9:13
