Former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2026 governorship election would not emerge through a consensus arrangement. Omisore, who is one of the aspirants for the APC governorship ticket, made the declaration on Monday while addressing journalists after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms. The APC has scheduled December 13 for the party’s primary to pick its candidate. Omisore argued that with nine aspirants already in the race, the Electoral Act makes recourse to a consensus arrangement impossible. He said: “As of today, we have nine aspirants. Consensus is not on the table. Whoever emerges through the set process becomes the party’s candidate.” The immediate national secretary of the party, who is from Osun East Senatorial District, also dismissed speculation that the APC leadership have settled for a certain aspirant from Osun West. He maintained that “every zone in the state has produced a governor. “Osun has never been governed based on zoning. Every zone has had its turn. These speculations are social media stunts.” https://osundefender.com/2026-omisore-tackles-apc-leaders-rejects-consensus-zoning/

Politics › Adeleke Yet To Inform PDP Of His Resignation, Says Turaki by Truths9ja(op): 3:03am On Dec 03, 2025 |
National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Tanimu Turaki, says the party has yet to receive any official communication from Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun over his resignation from PDP.
Turaki stated this while speaking with newsmen shortly after the party’s National Working Committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said while Adeleke has the right to stay or leave the party, he had yet to communicate the party that he was resigning his membership.
“We have seen in the media a letter purported to be from him resigning his membership of our party, but I tell you that up to this moment, we have not officially received any such indication from him that he has left this party.
“From the instructions we have given our people in the field, I know that Gov. Adeleke’s name is one of the aspirants vying for the ticket.
“So, if he decides—either in person or via a representative at the centre of the primary—that he has withdrawn or refused to make himself available, then that will form part of the report we will receive.
“As far as we are concerned, even if what we saw on social media is true, as a Nigerian, Gov. Adeleke, like any other person, has the constitutional right to freedom of association. He is free to move in; he is free to move out of any political party,” he said.
Turaki said that the power and strength of PDP remained with the people, not persons elected on the platform of the party.
“We are together with our people. If you go to states where some of the governors left, conduct a survey and you will discover that most of the people did not go with those who defected. That is what we are counting on.
“Our people are with us intact, and by the special grace of God, when election time comes, they will prove to Nigerians that the PDP is still in proper and complete shape,” Turaki said.
Speaking on the party’s internal processes, Turaki said that the NWC had reviewed and approved the congresses in Osun conducted to select ad-hoc delegates.
He also said that the party’s governorship primary for Osun was ongoing peacefully, noting that Adeleke remained one of the aspirants in the exercise.
“As I speak to you now, primaries are ongoing…Gov. Adeleke’s name is one of the aspirants vying for the ticket,” he said.
Turaki added that the NWC had also reviewed the arrangements being made for the conduct of the local government election in Anambra.
“We are satisfied with the report we received from the leadership of the party in Anambra State, that they are well prepared for that election. We are hoping that we will sweep that election when it is conducted,” he said.
Turaki also said that the former governors of the party nominated by President Bola Tinubu for non-career ministerial appointments had not communicated the party on the development.
“For the former governors who have been nominated, we are yet to receive any indication from them seeking permission or notifying us of the appointment.
“We wish them well. If they come to us, we will certainly consider it on its merit and take a decision on the appropriate response.
“But for now, I can confirm to you that we have not received any communication from them informing us that they have been nominated for ambassadorial positions,” he said.
On the security challenge currently facing Nigeria, Turaki said that the NWC advised the Federal Government to immediately review the country’ security architecture.
He said there was the need for government to brace up and ensure that Nigerians and their property were protected wherever they might be.
“We call on the federal government to brace up and, most especially, begin to consider a review of the security architecture in this country.
“We in the PDP believe that a situation where governors are called the chief security officers of their respective states, yet have no hand in controlling the operational activities of the military and security personnel who operate in their states is something that needs to be overhauled,” he said.
The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, however on Tuesday stated that Adeleke will formally join a new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the PDP. https://punchng.com/adeleke-yet-to-inform-pdp-of-his-resignation-says-turaki/

Politics › Osun 2026: I Am Ready To Work With Omisore, Others To Unseat Adeleke — Oyebamiji by Truths9ja(op): 8:18pm On Dec 02, 2025 |
Chief Bola Oyebamiji, a leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has said he is prepared to work hand-in-hand with Senator Iyiola Omisore and other party stalwarts to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 election.
Speaking after he submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Monday, he said the APC must approach the election as a united front if it hopes to reclaim the state.
According to him, all 14 aspirants of the party share a collective responsibility to rally around whoever eventually picks the party’s ticket.
The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) also insisted he remains the aspirant to beat in the forthcoming APC primary.
“Omisore is an elder we recognise and honour, and he is not the only credible aspirant. This is a friendly match. Whoever emerges, we will support,” Oyebamiji said.
“We are brothers, and unity is our strength in the APC. In two years, we have not lost a single member; over a million have joined us. That shows APC is the party to beat. After the primary, we will sit down together and work as one to rescue Osun.”
Oyebamiji underscored his confidence by pointing to a long administrative and professional record. With 28 years in the banking sector, he said he mastered target-driven management before transitioning to public service, where he served as MD of Osun State Trade and Investment, Commissioner for Finance and later NIWA boss.
“I worked in banking for 28 years — you must be profitable, know your onions, and deliver results. I resigned to join public service, and everywhere I served, I left without blemish,” he said. “My track record as finance commissioner and as NIWA MD gives me the courage that anywhere I step, I will succeed. That is why I believe I am the candidate to beat.”
He dismissed claims that political godfathers are backing his ambition, stressing that his support base is rooted among party members and ordinary Osun people. “Nobody is backing me except the Almighty God and the credible people of Osun. They are the ones urging me on,” he stated.
Oyebamiji described Osun as a state with immense, underutilised human and natural resources requiring a disciplined manager with character, analytical depth and integrity, just as he urged delegates to examine aspirants’ antecedents rather than rhetoric.
He called for prayers and committed to grassroots mobilisation, promising transparent, evidence-based governance if elected, since Osun deserves a results-driven leader capable of expanding opportunities, strengthening infrastructure, and restoring credibility to government.

Politics › Osun Speaker & lawmakers storm PDP Primary Venue, Clash With INEC Officials by Truths9ja(op): 6:26pm On Dec 02, 2025 |
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, along with some lawmakers and their aides, on Tuesday stormed the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary to confront officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and party members.
Egbedun, accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi, and other lawmakers, arrived at Adolak Event Centre shortly after the primary winner was declared, expressing opposition to the exercise.
A video circulating on social media showed Egbedun pointing at the INEC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Olurode, dressed in a blue native attire, after which one of his aides reportedly attacked the official.
The Deputy Speaker, Oyewusi, intervened, ordering the aides to cease the assault.
The Speaker later entered the hall, angrily declaring that those at the venue had no right to conduct a party primary in Osun State.
Speaking to newsmen, Egbedun warned Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, against using Osun State as a springboard for his presidential ambition.
He said, “I am the Speaker of Osun, I am a leader in my state and in the PDP. We were on the floor of the house when we received calls that some people were here, all the way from Oyo State, to come just to have a vote that we call a drama.”
“I am a leader of PDP and a bona fide member of the Party. I used the PDP ticket to win my election in 2023. So it’s very strange to see videos of people calling themselves PDP members. I could remember that there was a message that there was going to be a Congress. We were waiting for them, and we received another message that the Congress had been postponed.”
He warned, “This is a message to Gov Seyi Makinde, if he is desperate to become President come 2027, he should use another state as a tool, not Osun state. We are bona fide PDP members; we have 25 House of Assembly members, 5 Rep members, and senators.
“For a governor from another state to come to our state to dictate to us, we won’t take that. This is a message to everybody that we won’t take this anymore. They came here to do what I can call a drama, and this will be the end of it.”
He reiterated, “We do not have any notifications whatsoever from any office. I am the Speaker, and a governor from another state will come to dictate to us; we won’t take that. We will have a meeting and decide on what to do.” https://thenationonlineng.net/osun-speaker-lawmakers-storm-pdp-primary-venue-clash-with-inec-officials/

Omisore knocks Adeleke, says ‘Osun doesn’t deserve a dancing governor’
Senator Iyiola Omisore, a leading candidate for the Osun State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has attacked Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership style, describing it as “theatrical” and unfit for the challenges facing the state. Speaking after filing his nomination papers at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Omisore said Osun “does not deserve a dancing governor,” arguing that public office demands depth, discipline and seriousness rather than entertainment.
He contended that governance requires competence, tolerance and vision, and that Adeleke’s frequent displays of dancing reflect a lack of gravitas. Omisore, who previously served as deputy governor and as APC national secretary, stressed that experience is essential, likening it to wine that improves with age. He claimed that Osun would benefit from his own “depth” and experience.
Omisore also criticised Adeleke’s handling of key sectors, noting deteriorating education and health services, poor road infrastructure and a negative perception of the state. He said that if he were governor, he would not appoint Adeleke even as a commissioner, underscoring the perceived shortcomings of the current administration.
Another aspirant, former deputy governor Chief Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, echoed these concerns, accusing Adeleke of neglecting education and healthcare. Alabi pointed out that while the state has built bridges and roads, no teachers have been hired in three years, leaving a large gap in the education system.
Both aspirants expressed confidence in the APC’s internal electoral process, with Omisore predicting he would emerge as the party’s candidate.
The comments come amid a broader debate over Adeleke’s leadership, with critics highlighting issues such as a recent 24‑hour curfew imposed on an Osun community and ongoing security concerns in the region.
