Krucifax:

A very interesting and revealing documentary. I saw it last year before it was taken off Youtube for some copyright breach undecided

It's informative in explaining the source of a lot Ethnic and Tribal disharmony in Nigeria. It can be summed up by saying Nigeria is a geographical location patched up by the British and comprising of very different people with not a lot in common i.e (Religion,Culture,Beliefs).

The British being very clever and foreseeing the potential lack of co-operation(i.e a*se kissing and subservience) of the Southerners, carved out large regions in the North that would give an automatic political advantage to the North who would be more "co-operative".

Anyone in doubt should go and look at the map of Nigeria then you would understand why the North always feels an entitlement to political domination on account of sheer advantage in numbers and region. This the British thought would always ensure political domination for many years.

Sir Ahmadu Bello ( a highly intelligent and learned man)and so-called founding father, gave an interview in this documentary. I think every non-northerner should watch it and memorise it for life. It gives an insight into the thinking of the Northerner towards other non-northerners.
He believes that jobs in the North should go to only Northerners(regardless of merit and qualification),in the event no non-northerner can be found, and ex-pat(from another country) would be given precedence before a southerner!!! shocked It's not just dislike for non-northerners it is sheer contempt and hatred.

If he a founding father felt this way then it goes a long way to explain the many atrocities commited in the North towards non-northerners!

Then there was Awolowo's betrayal of the Igbos by his decision to seize their monies in the banks and give each Igbo a paltry sum regardless of original wealth after the Biafra War. Awolowo's action essentially meant that many Igbos that were previously very wealthy were made paupers overnight!
Then there was Awolowos's betrayal of the Yorubas by his decision to enter into a pact with the North.

Then there was Ojukwu's ill-advised decision to go to all out War. He was a military man,and thought a military solution was the best answer,it wasn't!
There was ethnic cleaning in the North of Igbos by Hausas and many thousands were murdered on account of just being Igbo!! A democratic solution would have worked better, lives would have being saved and assets remained. The Biafra War amongst other causes was chiefly caused by the mass murder of Igbos in the North. The dead were already that...dead!! There were many ways of dealing with these crimes and War wasn't one of them!

All in all Nigeria's original blue-print should have been left as it was,i.e Independent but associated regions North,West,East,South etc!! The drive to closer amalgamation is the source of our problems today. How can you make one team when different players think they should be captain and operate as such?? How can you form a group that have nothing in common and you want them to go in one direction?? The damage is done, our elders made a big mistake in my opinion and our generation and children will have to deal with the mess undecided

I had not read this before mine.

Decent expose....
Nairaland / General / Re: Video: Real Story Of Nigeria by tttn726: 4:57pm On Jan 29, 2013
All the stories about old Nigeria bla bla is so, how can I put it..it,s so "without depth" (I promised myself to not be rude in ths write up)

Why?

We were a people, nations etc before the Europeans/Arabs invaded. We might have had our problems but everyone have had there issues. The question is, what was before then? How do we place in the context of the very very disheartening situation in which we find ourselves.

This is not just a Nigerian thing but an African thing. It's the same story all over.

Nigeria is fake...created on the whim of a people who came to exploit and take advantage. They had a vision of empire, enslave peoples, use resources, stamp there own "civilisation" on other people.

They decided to marry people together without recourse to whether they wanted to be together. Borders, peoples, languages weren't respected. Nigeria wasn't created for you and I. It was convenient for them back then. I give it to them that they were able to pick up on the times and simply replaced one for another.

All the Nigeria Nigeria thing (like reminiscing etc) is just baseless and without depth. Did my history start from 1960? NO. There's nothing I can do about the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish, Portuguese been part of my history but what the hell is Nigeria, kenya. Look at my continent...my people

Medocrity is celebrated, no one wants to think! We;re seating dock for another round of exploitation.China is upon you and it still weirdly feels like it's like old days...France,Britain etc

I am not (and I am if it is necessary) preaching break up of Africa...Nigeria or anyother country for that matter. Just trying to be a catalyst to some thinking by ourselves.

We speak another people's language, we're subjugate in our minds. The so called leaders can't get anything right (we definitely have positive sprouts of work done but because we're so postrate....what a guy is supposed to do by virtue of work is celebrated like crazy etc)

The decisions we make should take history into consideration and the reality of today and some good foresight.

My Initial Thoughts?

Size matters. Everyone is rushing to be part of a union etc to have clout around the world. Countries are constantly looking to have an advantage, impose there will, be looked up at (and that even countries that have an history of other countries oppressing them i,e China)

I thought yesterday (only a thought and not totally processed) The "geographical expression" (or group) called Nigeria is well placed in terms of size (population etc)and could well serve as a lever for the "miserable history" (past, present, tomorrow)to be influenced etc.

SO, "Nigeria" becomes a standard bearer of good governance, a place where the diaspora can come to connect with there roots if they wish too etc

Oh well...just thinking...what do you guys think?

I know...after all these oyibo..me sef dey wait for match o!!!

Sigh,Thanks guys for your entries!

In a perfect world, solar, inverters...is the way to go.

But imagine, a person whose mind is so into "generator".!

This is all new so I'm making "baby steps" and have a huge hangover of needing "re-assurance" i.e. real life testimonials, examples, pictures, a reputable network I can hook folks at home to so solar and or inverter can be installed.

We will obviously have to talk money (but that's the least problem), confidence (re-assurance - more explanation of the system and process) and logistics weigh heavy on my mind!

Can any of you guys help? I've been watching youtube videos anyhow

pdozie: Why not setup a solar aray for them? With the generator they will surely have light with it but in days to come, they will spend money fuelling it and moreso, the gen must be maintained. Once you start having technicians touch it, you start planning to replace it.

But with natural energy (Solar) all you need is SUN.
Checkout this thread for more details - https://www.nairaland.com/390522/solar-energy-complement-fta/28

Pdozie, thanks for this. This is definitely the way to go ASAP especially in our part of the world.

I would have given it urgent and immediate thought if we had reputable companies/individuals who could action this at home in the shortest possible time!

I read the thread you put in your write up and it wasn't reassuring as all sorts of issues were raised, spare parts, chargers, waiting times etc.

Someone better start a business supplying this service!

In the main, I am still intently searching for a gen to be acquired ASAP for folks in Naija.

Enough power to carry freezer, fridge etc. Silent, key and or button start. Need to know costs etc

EDINBURGH (Reuters) - Supporters of independence for Scotland will launch on Friday what they say is the biggest grassroots campaign in Scottish history, a move that could result in the demise of a 305-year-old union with England and the breakup of Britain.
Seeking to tap into a cocktail of historical rivalry, opposing political tastes, and a perception that the British parliament in London does not nurture Scotland's national interests, the "Yes Scotland" campaign says it wants to win a referendum on independence in 2014 and for the country to become fully independent by 2016.
"For the first time the issue is real because people are going to have a vote," a spokesman for the campaign, who said he could not be named in line with protocol, told Reuters.
"People are more open to this than they have ever been before. It is fundamentally better for our future if decisions about Scotland are taken by the people who care about it the most."
If successful, such a move could create serious problems for Britain - which comprises England, Scotland and Wales (Britain is in turn part of the United Kingdom which also includes Northern Ireland).
Britain's Trident nuclear submarine fleet is based in Scotland, revenues from Scottish North Sea oil remain important to its coffers, and analysts say Britain would find it harder to maintain its voice at international bodies such as the U.N. Security Council as well as in European Union decision-making.
"The biggest issue for the UK is defense," Professor John Curtice of the University of Strathclyde said in a phone interview. "The question would be whether an independent Scotland would allow the UK to maintain its nuclear facilities there."
Despite its relatively small population of just over five million - compared to England's population of just over 52 million - a vote for Scottish independence inevitably would diminish Britain's voice on the world stage, he added.
"The rest of the world would be surprised and shocked that the UK was unable to hold together. It would not be perceived to be as big a player as it is now. Its weight in the world would be diminished."
POLITICAL DISCONNECT
Opinion polls show that around 40 percent of Scottish people are sympathetic to independence, with around 10 percent undecided and the remaining 50 percent opposed. South of the border in England, polls show people are largely apathetic.
The independence drive is being led by Alex Salmond, the feisty leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP). His party won a majority in Scottish elections last year and under the country's devolved system of government, it has control over health, education and prisons.
The British government in London controls foreign policy and defense. Yet Scotland has many of the trappings of an independent nation - its own flag, sports teams, culture and a history of achievements in science and literature.
Salmond wants Scotland to have its own armed forces and foreign policy and rejects a nuclear submarine facility based close to Glasgow.
The SNP-backed launch of the Yes Scotland campaign will take place at a conference centre on Friday in Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, and will be attended by pro-independence celebrities whose names have not been revealed.
One of Scotland's most high-profile celebrity supporters of independence is Sean Connery, famous for his cinematic depiction of British secret service agent James Bond. The same campaign spokesman declined to confirm whether Connery would attend.
Waiting for a bus on Edinburgh's George Street, an elegant thoroughfare littered with statues dating back to the heyday of the British Empire, 27-year-old bank worker Gregor Low said he would be voting for independence.
"There has always been a romantic notion of Scotland wanting its independence," he said. Praising the SNP and deriding the Conservative party which is locked in an increasingly unpopular British coalition government with the Liberal Democrat party, he said Scottish people felt removed from London.
"How can (Prime Minister) David Cameron or (Finance Minister) George Osborne know anything about the realities of life in Scotland?"
Edinburgh reflects the nation's complex history. It is home to the most tangible symbol of Scotland's thirst for greater independence: the ultra-modern Scottish parliament building.
But ironically, it is also home to an array of British imperial monuments built to commemorate the significant role Scotland played in the Empire alongside England.
History runs deep in Scotland and, symbolically, the independence referendum will be held on the 700th anniversary of the 1314 Battle of Bannockburn in which an army commanded by England's King Edward II was roundly defeated at the hands of a smaller force led by Robert the Bruce, a source of enduring pride for Scottish patriots.
The Yes Scotland campaign says it aims to go door to door in an effort to try to persuade people to sign a "Yes Declaration".
Harry Reid, an author and journalist who has followed Scottish politics since 1969, said the Labour party, traditionally strong in Scotland, had seen its supporters switch to the SNP in recent years.
That is crucial as Scotland historically is more inclined to vote for the left, whereas English voters have voted in much larger numbers for the right, underscoring a political fault line between north and south.
Furious at what they saw as former prime minister Tony Blair's support of U.S. foreign policy in Iraq and Afghanistan, Reid said disenchanted Labour voters may yet return to the fold.
If they do - in sufficiently large numbers ahead of a British general election in 2015 - the "yes" campaign would be buried, he said.
"If we're going to get a decent Labour government back in 2015 people might wonder whether they really need independence."

@mamalola Dear Lord!

The lady declaring what she has makes you so angry?! Goodness...you can almost feel the anger and deep seated agro dripping off every word! Not good!

Truth. If you are a guy and don't have a decent job, no car etc, its likely you'll be intimidated. She's worked hard (I suppose). Good for her.

I don't know the poster and even if the poster is fake... I don't think the poster or anyone else who talks about stuff like this is a monster!

The monsters are the guys you mentioned with fake/multiple IDs, the politicians back home fleecing us and eating our future, boko haram etc

I am a member of this community (Naija) and work in an industry where colleagues actually pick on our popularity for on-line scams etc I won't see my community and everyone through the eyes of this reputation (there are good folks amongst us believe it or not)

It's a public forum @mamalola and not Facebook. The profiles are anonymous.... get it? I am in London for i.e. and won't head to Arsenal in search of anybody cos the poster mentioned Arsenal. Some might if they are jobless but there are systems here if you become a stalker or something more hurtful.

Again, we have loads of bad guys...loads and loads but same as every where else. As a grown up, you should have filters, absorbers to help navigate through them. Meeting someone on-line is like meeting someone anywhere else. You don't just run off with the person...you talk, you find out, meet in public places, ask about friends.

I don't expect the poster to send mails out or contact anyone..even if the poster does...its her prerogative! Good luck to the poster!

Hope that helps @mamalola - don't be intimidated by someone saying they have a car (so what?), a mortgage (they still pay rent), a job at Arsenal (c'mon..that rubs you wrong?). All is decent and good for the poster!

Let's get more people like this - I came up from the underground the other day and overheard two guys (clearly Nigerian) talking about Chemistry/Physics degrees they had done but manning the barriers/toilet! If my community folks can rise...i want more of them too

As for saying she wants to marry/kids etc variety is the spice of life..some say it out (and rightly so in a public forum where identities are hidden) and some like to do there "evil under the duvet" smiley

Dear Lord! I must have a lot of time on my hand (just feel like it today...back to work now)...might be back though until i get worn out... grin

On the other hand...you're 25 and " Desperate", "God's time" hmmm Intriguing. Quoting what job, car, mortgage makes you even more intriguing (scratching my head)

Maybe you should have coined the title in a more "gentle" way smiley I'm sure you don't mean the title literally!?

Hey, I was at Arsenal recently for a "digital cream event"...depending on what you do at Arsenal...you probably know and or don't know about the event (besides everyone seems headed to the emirates nowadays for events etc)

Anyways, I'll rather not dwell on the "desperate" "God's time" thing. There's more to you?

If I was a counselor, I'll say get out there with your pals (girls/boys) - meet people, make new pals etc

Funny thing is while doing a higher degree and even now...there are lots of our ladies I studied with in there 30s who had no serious partners. They seemed hurried but ok (other nationalities here say we're quite a focused people)

The other thing I notice is, for those who grew up in this country (primary/secondary/uni), they're the ones likely to be 25 (relatively youngish for a Nigerian import) with mortgage, car, Arsenal job (hopefully..a decent one)

We're not far off - I work somewhere in Covent Garden....as we're from the same "village"...be a pen pal atleast smiley

Hey, talk to me...you get to see Arsenal games for free? I bet you have autographs off of the likes of Van Persie, Walcott etc smiley?

Nigeria's '419' email scams uncovered: The truth behind the Yahoo Boys
Email scams from Nigeria have long been the scourge of the internet, defrauding computer users of millions since they emerged alongside the worldwide web. But who are the ‘Yahoo Boys’ behind the con trick? Metro finds out,

Nigerian email scams are growing in number (Graphic: Internet Crime Complaint Centre/Metro)
We have all come across them. Well, those of us who have ever had an email address have come across them.
They have filled our inboxes for two decades, promising us lottery wins, no-lose business deals and unrequited love.
They are ‘419 scams’, named after the Nigerian Criminal Code number for the fraud – the country where it originated.
We have been asked to claim a large cash prize by sending off money to cover a registration fee or bail out someone trapped in a foreign country. Most of us delete them.
But a tiny number are duped and part with cash to their financial and emotional cost. And, for that reason, the emails continue to come.
Advance fee fraud has been going on for hundreds of years. It originates in the Spanish Prisoner scam of the 16th century, where the victim paid money to secure the release of a wealthy nobleman from jail with the promise of substantial rewards.
The modern 419 scam began in the 1980s, when Nigeria’s economy waned. It was carried out by graduates who couldn’t get a job and was used in letter or fax form to trick western businessmen into putting money into non-existent oil deals.
Once the power of the internet kicked in, the scam went electronic. And that’s when the Yahoo Boys came in.
They made their name by bombarding Yahoo! email accounts. Now a university study, believed to be the first of its kind, has interviewed 40 of them.
‘They are very brave and resilient,’ said Dr Joshua Oyeniyi Aransiola, a sociology lecturer who carried out the study via Obafemi Awolowo University in the Nigerian city of Ile-Ife.
‘Most of the Yahoo Boys are aged 22 to 29 and are concentrated around cities with higher institutions of learning.’ They also spend many hours gleaning information about potential target groups.
Dr Aransiola and his researchers spent six months gaining their trust and they agreed to be interviewed without revealing their identities.
They ‘usually brag, do things loudly, drive flashy cars and change cars frequently’, the report found.
It adds: ‘They wear the latest clothes and jewellery. They spend lavishly, love material things and go to clubs.
‘They are prominent at parties, picking up prostitutes at night. They speak coded languages and use coded words such as ‘‘Mugun’’ and ‘‘Maga’’, which means ‘the fool’ (ie their victim).
Some of the scams include making business proposals, online dating, bombing of mails and so on.’ Dr Aransiola said: ‘When they target individuals, they take their time to get as much detailed information about the person as possible.’
Hundreds of thousands of people are contacted, paying as little as £20, £30 or £60. But if enough fall into the trap it makes it worthwhile.
More than half of those interviewed had been engaged in cybercrime for five to seven years, and 95 per cent are undergraduate students.
They are products of their times. Unemployment is 24 per cent in Nigeria but among young people the figure is even higher.
They often go to extreme levels to achieve success.
If a Yahoo Boy is pretending to be a woman to lure a target into giving him more money, he might use his girlfriend to speak to the victim on the phone.
Many scammers use voodoo to give them good luck. The will make incisions on their bodies, sleep in cemeteries and cite incantations.
One 25-year-old Yahoo Boy told the university: ‘I have used it but I have stopped because of the fear of repercussion. With the aid of voodoo the money comes faster.’
Widespread corruption among the police, security forces, bank officials, postal agents and couriers helps to ensure their plans run smoothly.

While I cannot sit here and say 419 does not exist in Nigeria, I am also of the opinion that this two-page story on the Metro of Friday, March 2, 2012 has attempted to tar every Nigerian with the same brush. Just as I cannot describe every person of British nationality as a junkie or every hoodie in Britain as belonging to a gang. I consider this story by Ross McGuinness to be unbalanced, grossly and irreparably unfair to the several tens of millions of decent Nigerians living in Nigeria and in the Diaspora. I wonder, since the USA and UK are ranked higher than Nigeria in email scams, if he is going to do a 6-page story each on these two countries. While I sympathise with some of the victims I wonder what you would call the person who responds to an email requesting their cooperation to help launder, for instance, the late Nigerian dictator's, Gen. Sanni Abacha's loot? Greedy, an opportunist or a sensible investor? If you are a decent Nigerian who is one of the honest tens of millions irked and insulted by this report please email infocus@ukmetro.co.uk to register your displeasure.

A divorced mother of three was taken for £80,000 by 419ers posing as a US soldier, the Daily Mail reports.

Kate Roberts, 47, of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, was hooked when she posted a profile on Friends Reunited Dating in October 2009.

She was soon "exchanging emails with a man calling himself Sergeant Ray Smith and chatting to him several times a day on MSN Messenger".

Smith claimed to be a US soldier serving in Iraq, sadly widowed with an 11-year-old daughter. The gang provided pictures of the apparently "muscle-bound" soldier and his "daughter" to bait the trap, and began to reel in their victim with an initial request for £225 for a phone line.

Then, "a man with an American accent calling himself Mark began ringing her almost every day," the Mail continues.

Roberts said: "I did have doubts, but everything he told me sounded reasonable and I was in love. He told me he couldn’t tell me much about his job for security reasons and I accepted that."

In a textbook operation, the scammers then ramped up the requests for cash, including one for £20,000 to buy the "leave passes" Smith needed to be united with his cyberlove.

In total, Roberts coughed up £80,000 in "regular payments of thousands via Western Union". She "even paid cash directly into what she believed was his bank account as he told her he had no money".

The sad truth was revealed when she organised £12,000 for "one of his friends to pay for his airfare to Britain and he suddenly stopped contacting her".

Roberts explained: "One day he just stopped emailing me and didn’t call me. I drove down to an army base in Cambridgeshire, which he’d told me he had been in for three years, but they had never heard of him. I called the police and my phone company traced the phone he had used back to a mobile number in Nigeria."

The victim was later forced to sell her home to pay off the debts she racked up at the hands of the Lads from Lagos.

She concluded: "Aside from losing the money I feel like I’ve lost the love of my life. I know he wasn’t real, but the feelings were real to me and that’s very difficult to come to terms with. Hundreds of other women must be getting conned right now."

Mother found guilty of force-feeding baby to death
Gloria Dwomoh, 31, a nurse from east London, was obsessed with weight of 10-month-old Diamond, court hears

A nurse who killed her baby daughter by force-feeding her using a method she claimed was common in her native Ghana is facing jail following a three-week trial.

Gloria Dwomoh, 31, admitted "cup feeding" by pouring liquidised food into the infant's mouth using a porcelain jug while weaning her, in what is believed to be the first case of its kind in the UK.

The 10-month-old baby, Diamond, contracted pneumonia caused by food – including meat and cereals – repeatedly entering her lungs as she coughed and choked during force-feeding over a period of months.

She died in March last year after being taken to hospital near to her home in Waltham Forest, east London.

Dwomoh, who worked at St Thomas's hospital, south London, had wept as she demonstrated to the jury how she used two small china jugs for feeding, as she was trying "to give her nutrients rather than milk". She told the court: "I didn't do anything at all to hurt her."

She and her siblings had been fed the same way by her mother in Ghana, she said. She denied causing or allowing the death of Diamond, but was unanimously convicted. A 37-year-old man, who cannot be identified, was acquitted of the same charge.

The pathologist who examined Diamond said he had "never seen so much food in the lungs of a dead child".

Describing it as a very sad case, the prosecutor Andrew Edis QC said the food had gone down the wrong way over months.

Dwomoh had placed the spout of the jug into the child's mouth "to prevent her closing it when she did not want any more – to prevent her having any choice".

He told the trial: "The mother, she is a nurse, and that involves a degree of extra insight." She was said to be obsessed with the baby's weight.

Dwomoh was remanded in custody for sentencing on 9 November as Judge Brian Barker QC described the case as "very disturbing on any view".

Social services had warned Dwomoh and the male defendant about force-feeding, but the advice was ignored. The man was said to have told police: "To feed the Ghanian way is to pour it into your mouth."

Laura Eades, chair of Waltham Forest Safeguarding Children's Board, expressed "deep regret and sadness" for Diamond's death, and said it was believed to be the first case of its kind in the country.

A serious case review "had found there were weaknesses and shortcomings" by some of those involved with the family, Eades said, but the review had concluded that the child's death was "not predictable".

She said: "Had best practice been followed, the risk to Diamond of force feeding would have been better recognised and the family would have been offered further support and intervention. This should have reduced the probability of Diamond being subject to behaviour that proved in this case to be fatal."

Among its findings, the serious case review said those dealing with the family were "insufficiently sensitive to obtaining an understanding of the significance of cultural and/or individual values with regard to weight, body image and feeding practices".

It also found communication problems may have arisen because of difficulties understanding the male defendant's English, and inexperience in dealing with force-feeding.

It also found that because the "maltreatment" was motivated by concern for a child's welfare, professional concerns were "mistakenly diluted" and there were significant shortcomings in the child protection inquiries by staff at an Islington hospital, Waltham Forest children's social care and the Metropolitan police service child abuse investigation team.
TV/Movies / Yet Another Bbc Program(stolen) On Child Trafficking And Little Girl From Lagos! by tttn726: 9:18pm On Jul 03, 2011
Its amazing how Nigeria (Lagos) features all over the media in the UK

A Few

1.Eastenders - Girl about to be deported to Lagos
2. Omid Djalili (Comedy) can get enough of the so called "Nigerian Accent"
3. Last night, watching another comedy show "Mock The Week" - Another one taking the mickey out of the so called "Nigerian Accent"
4. Extensive programming about Lagos i.e "welcome to Lagos" etc

And many more - you can add to the list

The one showing now is called stolen about a girl not more than 4 sent to Heathrow by some peoples in Lagos and schooled to flush her passport etc down the toilet. She was beaten and abused and threatened by her handlers etc (there are other immigrants in the drama)

Yawn,

I can't be mad enough but i,ll say - shame on your leaders/parents back in Nigeria, in Africa. Its overwhelming when you think of how much there is to do to claw back the wasted years. Even worse is the lack of vision in our generation (if its not some heavy "everythings fine in Jesus", its "Allah slits your throat"!)

Its refreshing!

Don't you watch TV? The amount of bashing and attention we recieve is incredible! While we have ills, all the Lagos themed, Nigeria themed programs are totally tiring

Its refreshing to watch the old dogs biting at each other, breathe a air of relief and watch them tear at each other

I don't know why we don't get people to sponsor whatever researchers we have left in the country and Africa to also do regular reports on the future of UK and how it will break up and become no bigger than Ijebu Ode amongst other critical topics we can concentrate on

Too many things!

Now, enjoy the comments, you enjoy boxing? Enjoy the bashing

Why is this refreshing, this boring old conflict has been going on for hundreds, if not thousands of years. The United Kingdom may just end up gone if there are no more benefits for the four nations inside of it.

Its refreshing!
