Our union was banned on February 22,2011 though transition committee was set up last semester to begin process for the reinstatement of union.

Ok it's enough, OAU was definitely a planet of its own, I loved it and hated it the same, Greatest Ife, Greatest of the Greatest of the Greatest of the Greatest, ALL other universities are Counterfiets, FIFTY GBOSAS!!!!!

I am an OAU Legacy child, so I can go on and on and on, I left b4 part 3 to school in yankee Sha, so kudos to everyone that completed the journey!

Pls what year was that Dapo the gay saga? And any further info related to it,d guy's full name and how they got to know he was a gay?

I thank you all for the comments and the contributions but Comrade Saburi is not a focusless being,the powers dat be only thought they could peg his destiny.If you believe in any cause even,if you fight fot the cause and lost,you will still feel fulfilled.
Comrade Saburi Akinola is a living hero.Had it being we have a students' union on ground,I would have moved for a befitting sendforth for him to be sponsored by the union......

The news of his graduation spread like wildfire last Saturday following his post on his Facebook page which heralded the news.His Facebook page was awashed with encomiums and congratulatory messages.Akinola Saburi a.k.a Malcom X's joy knew no bound when he wrote his last paper on Saturday after spending over a decade(1999-2013).

Saburi was in 2003, the General Secretary of the Students Union before he was later elected as the president in 2006/07 session but his administration was locked in horns with the school management since day one based on the presumed believe that his election was rigged.During his reign as president,he fought every oppressive policy of the university management which landed him in detention at Ilesha prison for six months without trial.He he rarely compromise his stand on fundamental issues.

Even,after his return from prison,he still continued the struggle such that he was declared a persona non grata in Osun State by men of the State Security Service.He was later reinstated to continue his prog.

Also,his name flew about on the net through out that day.No doubt,Saburi his a hero and a model to young comrades like us.I join the numerous people who have congratulated him to honour this living legend.....Saburi! Saburi! Hai Hai Oh!...................Comrade Cordree

And yes, the Quran says muslims should not take jews,and christians as 'auliya' .

What does auliya mean? In what context was the revelation given? How come the companions of the prophet had jewish and christian friends??

There are many words for friends in Arabic language, depending on the kind of friendship, the people enjoy...

i. Auliya relates to a 'protecting friend'.... Like a father is an auliya to his son. Allah is the Auliya to the believers....

So what does this mean?

i.) The muslims were in a state of war but they had friends who remained jews or christians. Some of these friends did not like the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)and supported for the other size: The mushrik of mecca.

If the relationship between the two friends was one whereby the Non-muslim was an auliya or a wali to the muslim... It means the muslim depends on him for protection and tells him everything, this could include military strategies.. etc.. A Non-muslim friend with loyalties elsewhere can divulge this kind of information to the other side

So even though the muslims maintained cordial relationships with their Jewish and christian friends, It was not the kind of relationship, where the non muslim was an wali or auliya to the muslim.

2. What is a Kafir?

A kafir means one who covers.... Like a farmer buries a seed in the ground.... A person who has been presented Islam in a clear, coherent fashion and rejects, covers or buries it .. is a kafir..

Not all unbelievers are kafir...

A kafir is basically a rejecter of truth....

OAU Students Dissociate From Yinka Gbadebo Ayefele’s Self Acclaimed NANS Presidency

My attention and that of the entire students’ community of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile- Ife have been drawn to the crisis in the national body of the National Association of Nigerian Students’ (NANS) aftermath the Uyo convention.

It will be recalled that the National convention of Nigerian Students’ took place in Uyo the capital city of Akwa –Ibom state between 13th -18th December, 2012.

At the convention, our great Institution Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife fielded a candidate in person of Comrade Adelu Monehin James Bobby for the office of the NANS president in consonance with the tradition of our Students’ Union having met the criteria of being a member of our great union. Not only that, he duly certified the criteria of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC) and the State Security Service (SSS), by making available his proof of studentship viz; students identity card, letter of confirmation of studentship from the office of the Dean of Students’ Affair, Letter of recommendation from his Head of Department and his Aspirant Intent Form duly signed by his HOD.

I must say, that it is a known fact that whoever is not a member of our union by virtue of been a matriculated student of any JAMB accredited program cannot lay claim to studentship of the Great Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and in view of this, such an individual cannot be allowed to use the platform of the institution to contest any office especially at the apex body of the students’, The National Association of Nigerian Students’ (NANS).

Also, as part of the age long principle and tradition of our Students’ Union to always be a pace setter in the students’ movement in Nigeria by ensuring that transparency and integrity is made the hallmark of our modus-operandi, at this juncture, it is sacrosanct without been economical with truth and facts in the interest of protecting the hard earn prestigious reputation and integrity of the Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife to categorically state as follow:

That I Ayo Shedrach Toe a. k. a Ay Toes the chairman OAU Students Union Transition Committee duly elected by the students, is aware of one Mr. Yinka Gbadebo a.k.a Ayefele who claimed to be a part one diploma student of OAU Ile-Ife

That the Diploma Students in OAU are not regarded as matriculated student of the institution as they are not recognized by JAMB

That Diploma students are not members of the students union of OAU as they are not allowed to vote or be voted for.

That under no condition or circumstance will any Diploma student of OAU be allowed to use the platform of our Students’ Union or the name of the institution to hold or contest any office that has to do with the interest of the OAU students as it contravenes the spirit and letters of the Union’s constitution.

That The State Security Service after their findings about the studentship status of Mr. Yinka Gbadebo a.k.a Ayefele prior to the convention ought to have disqualified him in tandem with the agreed procedure of the election that whoever is not a matriculated student of any JAMB recognized institution and NUC ( or other tertiary education regulatory body) accredited program should not be allowed to contest the election.

In view of the aforementioned and my duty to protect the image and integrity of the OAU students union, I hereby state that: Mr. Yinka Gbadebo is not a student of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and couldn’t have contested the NANS presidency in Uyo using OAU ticket let alone parading himself illegally as the NANS president.

Although,

The OAU community and the public are advised to be wary of transacting any business with Mr. Yinka Gbadebo a.k.a Ayefele in the name of NANS.

While I assure every member of the students’ union and stakeholder of great Ife of necessary protection of our sanctity, I shall hold necessary discussions with the Management of the institution for further actions.
