PoliticsWe Won't Share Power With PDP - Oshiomhole Tells APC Rep-Elect by Tundemuttee(op): 4:05pm On Mar 25, 2019
The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, Monday cautioned newly-elected members of the House of Representatives under the platform of the party against division as regards the constitution of the House leadership.

In his words, “Please, don’t allow anybody to divide you.

“We shall carry out extensive consultations with Buhari and other leaders of the party to harmonise issues and, work out a sensible zoning formula that seek to carry everybody along.

“We shall not again share any of the critical positions in the leadership of the House of Representatives with the opposition PDP including chairmanship of sensitive committees.

“Before the election, we had about 190 members. As we speak, Nigerians have re-elected 223 more members on the platform of the APC.

“We have overwhelming majority even if we want to amend the constitution.

“I’m happy to say that in the same token, the Nigerian people have expressed less confidence in the opposition PDP.

“For us to enjoy our numerical strength, we should recognise we were elected by the party’s platform.

“APC will nominate the right candidates to occupy the speaker, deputy speaker, leader ,Chief whip, deputy chief whip and others. However, we shall only allow the opposition to occupy the Minority leader and chairmanship of the public accounts committee as provided by the constitution.

“Our challenge is to have a leadership of the House of Representatives that will share the same vision with the executive.

“We are one family as shown in our broom.

“We have the number and we will use the number to elect the leaders we want,” he said.

Reacting, some of the newly-elected lawmakers, who spoke on behalf of their colleagues, pledged their undivided loyalty to the blueprint of the ruling party in the discharge of their legislative duties.

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Monday brainstormed the party’s newly elected members of the House of Representatives to ensure it occupies critical leadership position in forthcoming 9th consensus election of the lower chamber’s leadership

PoliticsKano Election Was 'Democratic', Those Who Are Unhappy Should Accept - Ganduje by Tundemuttee(op): 4:01am On Mar 25, 2019
The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has described the election process in the state as “really democratic”.

He thanked all his supporters for coming out in their numbers to re-elect him, while he called on those aggrieved by the outcome of the exercise to simply take it in good faith.

“We have to appeal for peace and stability. Those who jubilate should jubilate in peace to avoid intimidation and those who are not happy should take it in good faith.

“But all I can say is, it is democracy in action and we need to live together,"

Speaking on his plans for the state over the next four years, Ganduje stated that he would consolidate the programs and policies already being implemented in his previous term.

“I believe that we shall take Kano to the next level considering what we have already done on the ground,” he said.

“There is no doubt when you are going for a second term, you are going for consolidation in order to ensure that there is continuity in all the policies programmes so that we ensure that we take the state forward and also we have to extend our hand of friendship to all those who contested so that we come together and move Kano State forward”.

Recall Ganduje was announced as the winner of the election on Sunday, after he polled a total of 1,033,695 as against his closest rival, Abba Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 1,024,713.

PoliticsPDP Rejects Kano Results, Insists Abba Yusuf Won The Election by Tundemuttee(op): 3:42am On Mar 25, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its candidate, Abba K. Yusuf, is the rightful winner of the Kano state governorship election, stating that any declaration that does not reflect such cannot stand.

This is according to a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan.

The opposition party said that its candidate Abba Yusuf, won the Kano state governorship election since March 9, 2019, having fulfilled the constitutional requirement of securing the highest number of votes and the statutory 25% in two-thirds of the state.

However, the supplementary governorship election in Kano overturned what would have been for them a victory.

Hence, the party described the supplementary polls as “a national disgrace” and a mere figure allocating exercise by compromised INEC officials, who collaborated with power drunk politicians in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to award results to the APC candidate”.

The party cautioned INEC against any attempt to alter figures, noting that that will be a clear recipe for anarchy and a serious crisis in the state.

PDP said that the people of Kano state have a long history of firm resistance against corrupt and oppressive forces, adding that the will of the Kano people must not be stretched in this election.

The party stressed that no amount of machination can “cow or force the Kano people to abandon their resolve for a new governor in Abba Yusuf”.

The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas has said there were no grounds for the cancellation of the rerun election currently going on in the state.

The opposition party in Kano, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had earlier called for the immediate cancellation of the exercise as a result of some irregularities.
But the APC in the state denied all the allegations raised by the PDP chairman, saying the allegations were unfounded.

Abbas said: “The call by the PDP for cancellation of election was uncalled-for because the election is still ongoing.

“INEC should ensure conclusion of the election.

“PDP should wait for the final result of the poll and then take legal action if not satisfied with it. That is what the law provided.

“I think PDP failed to mobilise its people that’s all.”

The APC chairman in the state also urged security personnel to ensure safety of lives and property during and after the poll.

On the allegation of deploying people from Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Kebbi states, Abbas expelled the allegation, saying the population was more than enough to partake in any election.

PoliticsCancelled Kano Supplementary Election - PDP Tells INEC by Tundemuttee(op): 1:24pm On Mar 23, 2019
The opposition party in Kano, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for the immediate cancellation of the rerun election currently going on in the state.

In a press briefing, the Acting State Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, called the exercise as “Charade,” saying “what we have in Kano is nothing but sham”.

The PDP state chairman said the ruling party in the state, APC, had mobilized thugs to take over all the 208 polling units in the state.

“These thugs are imported from Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Plateau and other neighboring states.

“These thugs are armed to teeth and posing as electorates of those localities’ polling units,” Bichi has said.

He added that the thugs freely vote with PVCs that do not belong to them and some posing as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff, alleging that their party agents were denied access to the polling units and most of them were beaten and driven away.

“As I address you now, we have reports that some of our agents have been killed, vehicles burnt, property destroyed in Doguwa, Nasarawa, Minjibir, Dala and Tudun Wada Local government areas,” he said.

“These with other infractions made us to completely lose faith in the whole exercise and therefore, call on INEC to cancel this elections,” Bichi concluded.

Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says his moral authority and skills as a veteran politician are his only tools for influencing elections.

He spoke while reacting to the allegation by a political group that he is planning to influence the governorship rerun election in Sokoto state.

The Sokoto State Coalition of PDP Supporters had accused Tinubu, Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the APC, and Abdulaziz Yari, Zamfara state governor, of meeting with Yakubu Mahmood, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to rig the election in the state in favour of the APC.

In a statement issued on his behalf by Tunde Rahman, his spokesman, the APC national leader said he has been at the forefront of the struggle for electoral reform and would do nothing to subvert democracy in the country.

“These allegations by a contrived PDP organ are desperate untruths without a basis in fact. But they are entirely in line with the delusional reactions of PDP to their loss in the presidential elections,” Tinubu said.

“A prominent member of that panel, Prof Attahiru Jega later became the INEC Chairman and was able to implement the far-reaching reforms that have enabled us to have the free and fair elections that we witnessed in 2015 and now in 2019.

“If I were such a prominent supporter of electoral reforms, why wilI I now be among those trying to subvert democracy?

“My only tools for influencing elections are my moral authority, my skills as a veteran politician, and dedication to campaigning and mobilising my own party members.”

Sokoto is one of the five states where supplementary election will hold on Saturday.
