@ Emperoh replacing airbags is a very "sensitive" job. Understanding what's at stake I personally would not trust anyone but a Toyota dealership to get it done. I don't know the extent of the quality of auto-mechanics at Toyota dealerships in Nigeria but you need to be be very aware. Also when you say "the car per assessment can be fixed back to a sound, 'driveable' condition"; is that assessment done by an insurance adjuster? Because to be quite honest if the required technology and workmanship necessary is not readily available how did they come to that conclusion? That assessment might be worth contending if you can prove that the Toyota dealerships/ auto-mechanics on ground are not equipped to deal with such issues. Replacing the airbag is the easy part. Making sure the sensors are properly fitted is the most crucial part of the repair. In the US most repair shops (NAPA, Firestone etc..) will still send the car to a Toyota dealership to certify the functionality of the repaired airbag. With all that being said please be careful and congrats on the safety of your parents!!! |
Why are people attacking the seller? Nigerians and our lack of etiquette.....if you don't like the price move on to the next car. BTW I don't know the seller and I am not endorsing his price; just speaking to people who can't control themselves and act as "adults." |
I know my idea might not be widely popular but I believe it'll bring more integrity and confidence to potential automobile buyers on nairaland. I think sellers should post VIN for every car listed for sale. If there is nothing to hide then I really don't see why it should be an issue. Even though there is a "buyer beware" rule I think it'll help when buyers have more information at their finger tips than having to BEG sellers for the info. If the VIN is not posted within 3days of the posting the ad should be deleted. I know it sounds harsh but it forces more transparency that I think is badly needed here. My two cents..... |
You're welcome..... sorry did you post the VIN already I don't see it yet? |
Nice looking car......can u post the VIN? |
Whats the mileage on this Pilot? Also can you post the VIN? Thanks |
Mr Moderator please close this thread already. I think both parties have made their points and most people involved in the auto sales business know exactly whats going on here. I wish our people will just be honest. Always think about tomorrow guys; no amount of money should be able to buy your reputation!!! To potential buyers remember "the cheapest is not always the best; you get what you pay for." |
Hello, A couple of things about your specs that I want to ask.... 1. 07 Accords don't come factory fitted with turn signal mirrors. As a matter of fact I'm not even sure there is the after market part for that particular vehicle but I can confirm tomorrow. 2. Also the 07 accords with navigation are usually the EX-L which will automatically have leather interior. However it is possible to install navigation into and EX model with cloth interior. Are you open to this? |
I'd like to check out the VIN first. Please post it at your earliest convenience. Thanks. |
Please post the VIN of the ride. |
Thanks for posting the VIN. |
ayo jango: @ damola just return his money you deceived him right from the outset, lekky 2 am with d directorate of public proSecutions I'll help you deal with him.I'll handle d case free of charge its pple like these that giv d country a bad nameSorry but I don't think this is necessary at this point. The seller has been not been MISSING IN ACTION concerning this issue; also admittedly the seller bought the car without inspection at his own risk. You words are fanning the flame and not progressive. Everyone doing business has lost some money at one point or another whether out of ignorance or being taken advantage off. If you don't have any comments to help the parties involved resolve this issue amicably then don't say anything at all. |
@ Lekky 2 what is the VIN of the car so I can give you an idea of what the engine would cost? On another note if the seller is willing to refund your money IMMEDIATELY then I think you should seriously consider going that route. Buying used engines in naija can be a tricky thing sometimes. Importing a good used engine from the US from a trusted source might be the better option of the two but shipping might be cost prohibitive. I think the conclusion here is some money has gone down the drain so how much more are you willing to spend one way or another. @ damola 1 please offer to refund the money immediately you receive the car so your reputation can be restored. Best wishes gentleman..... |
While the seller has posted a "reasonable" response what I am curious about is did you (buyer) know the vehicle had been in an accident? Looking at those pictures that car was probably in a pretty significant accident and the repair job that was done to it is "very poor" at best. As a dealer/seller people ought to show a little intergrity and let potential buyers know the history of the car; especially when you can easily check the information on carfax or autocheck. I always warn people if it seems too good to be true then IT PROBABLY IS!!! Always spend a little more to get something that'll put your mind at peace; in the end it's always worth it. I hope both parties can work something out, but to all potential buyers please so your homework before you pay your hard earned cash for anything. Best wishes guys...... |
Mileage but no VIN? Is there something wrong with the VIN? |
I guess it's safe to say you wont be posting the VIN right? |
Is this a 4cylinder or a V6? Also can you post the VIN? |
Is this a 4cylinder or a V6? Also can you post the VIN of the car? Lastly what's the mileage? |
I'd like to check the VIN info first then we can talk. Please post the VIN so I can check the necessary info. Thanks! |
Are they all priced the same? Also can you post the mileage on each one and the VIN for each car. Thanks. |
@ n.oxide really a brand 2012 Camry XLE in naija for N6.5m Please tell me where you're getting it from so I can go and get one too! @ OP best wishes on your sale! |
To whoever started this thread it is not "FUN" or funny to everyone when you start a a conversation that brings up baseless or uninformed comments. We all knew where this thread was going; a bunch of people will complain about something they have no idea about. I enjoy dialogue and I think we should always engage each other but people calling others "robbers" and saying you can clear a 2011 camry for 250k in the same breath tells you all you need to know about where this conversation will end up! |
Why do you guys spend so much time telling people how they should price their vehicles Last I checked it's a free market. Anyone can price their products however they please. And just for the record you cannot complete the purchase of an brand new EVOQUE anywhere in North America for $43k USD. Just because you see a number on a website does not mean you're going to walk out with that car for that number. Also no one knows how much the seller had to go through to get the car to Lagos. I suggest people pay attention to their own products; if you see something that's too expensive for you move on to the next one it's not by force you buy from anyone. BTW I don't know the poster and I don't sell cars through nairaland, happy sales @ OP! |
I know enough about body shops. I don't agree with all your info but point well taken , I think we've all made our inputs to this thread. Hopefully it'll benefit the masses. Good thread! |
Let me start by saying NOT ALL salvage cars are bad! It's possible to get a decent car at a decent price and still make a decent profit. However, some of the arguments being used here are in my judgement misinformed. I don't know it all and would never claim to but I've learnt a few things that have cost me thousands of dollars (cost of education I guess). @ Kunle-A, a car with a $3k/$4k market value will not have $1k bumper. I have bought bumpers from dealerships and aftermarket and that ratio is incorrect. More like $250-$350. @ prince_onx an insurance company WILL NOT salvage (salvage means its deemed a "total loss" a $10k because of a $1500 repair estimate. Because if they do they will not get $8k for it at the auction trust me. The value of a car is totally different whenever the title is salvaged so they can't get up to 80% of the street value. Keep in mind they pay the street value (fair market value) and dealers don't buy cars at the clear title auction at fair market value; they pay wholesale value so they can have room to resell and make a profit. Imagine what they'll pay at a salvage auction![]() |
For those questioning bizbooks points please let me break it down a little further. An insurance company will not "salvage" a vehicle because of a small bumper damage. @ bfire I know the pathfinder shows bumper damage but trust me even the simple math doesn't make sense. Please keep in mind insurance adjusters work for the insurance company and the insurance company is not in the business of loosing money. With that in mind why would they totally salvage a vehicle and have to pay the fair market value to the owner when the damage can be repaired for a few hundred dollars ![]() Also the insurance adjuster's loyalty is to the company that pays their salary so there is no incentive to work against the hand that feeds them. One more point when you look at certain "small" damage cars there might be significant damage to the frame(skeleton) of the car that might not be obvious on the outside. Next to airbag issues I believe this is the next worst thing with some salvage cars that some naija dealers ignore. When the frame of the car is not properly re-aligned you'll forever have issues. Hope this helps, |
@ Poster let me save anyone trying to argue the cost of replacing airbags their breathe. It will definitely cost about $1k - $1.5k to make it functional. I posted a comment on your blog last week about the safety restraints in cars sent to naija. I had someone make a similar argument with me a while back because one of his potential customers asked me about replacing airbags and the cost involved. I did my research through many sources firestone, NTB, etc, and they all gave me similar estimates. It's not just the part there is also extensive labor involved such as getting the airbag sensor to work. BTW he told his customer it was only going to cost $200 to replace it ![]() Most of these crooked dealers just put the cover back (very cheap part depending on the car) on and glue it in so you can't really tell if you're not very savvy. There is a lot of truth in naijas wanting something for next to nothing too but you don't have to feed into the madness just to make a dollar. How about people start showing some integrity and concern for other people's lives. |
BizBooks:For the record I don't do salvaged cars unless the customer specifically request one for budgetary reasons. For me it's not really so much of if the car is salvaged for me its more why it is salvaged. For example I think it is cruel and selfish to send cars with no airbags to naija. I believe that is why most times there is any kind of an accident in naija people almost always die. When people do that just keep in mind what goes around comes around. What if the person you were selling to is a family member would you still send that type of car ![]() |
I do it all the time, part of the "blessings" of being a GOOD DAD/FATHER especially in the US ![]() |
No one can "MAKE YOU SIN!" Yes there will be the temptation but no one makes you do anything unless they have a gun to your head which is not the case in this discussion. 1 Corinthians 10:13 New International Version (NIV) 13 No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. My two cents, |
Honestly its going to come down to personal preference. I know people who are MB lovers and there is nothing you can say to them about BMWs that'll convince them otherwise. However, I also know people who are BMW faithfuls who consider MB vehicles as inferior products. Both suvs are very good and you can't go wrong either way. Personally I'm a Lexus/Toyota person but if I had to choose between your options I'd go with the MB product because I think the finishing on the interior of MBs are way superior to that of the BMWs. My only concern would be the GLK being relatively new engineering since it just came out in 2010 so there might still be some tweeks here and there. BTW where are you buying yours from? Wish you all the best in your search. |
How about none! No single president has left a positive life altering legacy for their fellow citizens that is worth mentioning. I think we'll get the answer soon though ![]() |
Please tell me where you're getting it from so I can go and get one too!
