Vo: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning (Me not looking at him focused on bringing out my documents)

VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going to the University of Oklahoma for masters in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I will be concentrating on Control and Power systems.

VO: Why this course:
Me: The biggest problem in the Nigerian power sector is Energy tracking and Energy fraud. Disco **stammered here and said** Distributing… **sorry** …distribution company can’t track the amount of energy consumed by their consumer. They …blah blah blah (I lost my train of thought).
Me: I don’t know why am nervous.

VO: Smiles and lean forwards then replies … Calm down, I don’t want you to give a rehearsed answered
Me: No, I am not, I am just trying to articulate my thoughts.

VO: OK Good.. go on
Me: Genco… I mean generating company needs to be paid for energy produced and if the disco can’t track the amount of energy consumed by the consumers then we have a problem with revenue collection. I believe this course would provide me with the right skills to solve this problem. I would be providing automated tracking systems, smarts meter and … (Vo cuts in)

VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: 3

VO: List them?
Me: The University of Oklahoma, University of Tennessee, Tennessee Tech University.

VO: Why OU?
Me: Sincerely, rankings. In terms of Quality of education, research interest and facilities, these schools meet my requirements. OU is ranked above the other rest, I have friends in Oklahoma so settling wouldn’t be an issue and the control in OU is combined with instrumentation, so technically OU provides me with more options.

VO: Are you married?
Me: No

VO: Kids?
Me: No

VO: How would you be funding?
Me: (bringing out my prodigy award letter) I secured a student loan from prodigy finance.

VO: (Reaching for the letter) is the amount stated in the letter?
Me: Yes

VO: What is the interest?
Me: 10.8% per annum

VO: And how will be …. Never mind…I will be approving your visa (circles the white sheet)
Me: I was confused…did not hear anything…. I heard … 3days and VI. He passes me my I-20 and kept my passport in among other passports. I was confused and stood there waiting for my passport to be returned before I realized oo I might have gotten this Visa.

Congrats cheesy

No it's not possible. The ds 160 you submitted was to abuja database. You can only reschedule for another date in Abuja, not lagos

It depends on the course. I may mention some schools and they might not have your course. Try lousiana state university, embry riddle aeronautical university,Prescott, university of maryland, Baltimore but you have to mail the graduate coordinator and ask for application fee waiver

Got interviewed by V. O in room 8

V. O: Good Morning
Morning

V. O: Tell me why you are going to the usa?
To study for a masters in civil and Environmental Engineering at Young Town state university with a concentration in hydroenvironmental engineering

What would this degree so for you?
This degree is in line with my career goal to become a university professor, conduct research and write journals.
The degree provides me with the basic requirement to pick up a lecturing job at the department of civil and environmental engineering as an hydroenvironmental engineering specialist at Lagos state university my Alma mata, more so, to provide consultancy services by extension.

V. O: are you married
Yes

V. O: how many kids
I answered one

V. O. Who is your sponsor:
My Dad is my main sponsor, and I equally have savings to cover my living expenses.

V. O. Typing..........
Handed me the blue paper
Am Sorry I cannot approve your visa apply next time

Though your dad can sponsor you but most transcript of those married with kids and using dad as sponsor that i have seen here on nairaland are mostly refused. I dont know why but i guess embassy expect such people to be self sponsored or on scholarship. This is what i observed though.

Hello Great people.
I got my Visa approved this morning at the Lagos Consulate.
I have learnt a lot on this forum since last year when I started this process, through GRE and TOEFL and school applications (Lost access to my previous nairaland account. Here goes my Transcript, I hope it helps somebody else too:

Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Time: 6:45am
Course:Finance
School:University of New Haven

I left home at 5 and got to the embassy before 6, waited in my car till 6:10 before going into the compound. They called us in almost immediately. After the long endless procedure, I got interviewed by the white lady at window 6.

VO: passport Please

Me: Good morning. Here you go (gave her passport and I-20)

VO: Where are you going in The US
Me: I'll be attending school at University of New Haven, West Haven, Connecticut

V.O:What course

Me: Finance Ma'am

VO: Why Finance?

Me: My goal is to work in the financial Services sector, specifically as an Investment Banker. It will also improve on the theory I have learnt at my undergraduate level, and teach me a practical application of said theories.

V.O: What year did you finish your undergraduate degree?

Me: 2016

I just checked my visa application status on the CEAC website and it is showing Administrative Processing and it was updated today. My visa was approved yesterday, the consular officer told me that my visa was approved. She gave me the pickup letter and did not circle any location ( I think she didn't circle the pickup location because I think she was rushing because I was the last person to be interviewed yesterday in Abuja). I hope there is no problem because the status showed Application received earlier today.

You don't have problem. It will change after 2-3days to issued. Since you weren't asked to submit any document

yesterday I got an email from USA embassy Lagos, which reads " Congratulations, you have successfully rescheduled your appointment. Your appointment details are below.
Date: 4th August
Time: 8:30
and etc

Am confused, because am having two appointment dates now.
Pls what will be the problem here? I haven't login to the site since I booked for the interview let to talk of re-sheduling my appointment to a later date.

I need a clarification on this so as to know which date I will rely on.

Login to your dashboard and see what you have there. If its August 4th. Use it, that's your current date. Embassy do reschedule interview dates on their own if there is public holiday or an event happening then

Your 1st degree or current work should relate with the course you are going to study. If not, the chances of getting visa will be slim

PS don't forget God factor (na em dey give visa ) and be confident when speaking

Am not against God factor tho as one can be favoured and not be asked much questions before getting visa but we shouldn't capitalise on that. That's the mistake many people do, they pray and pray without doing anything to help their application. Do your best and allow favour to crown it up

I don't quite agree with you. Interviewer shouldn't be looking for one reason to deny you but many reasons not to deny you and that is the approach of the simple VOs. However, those blacks are trying too hard to prove a point to their superiors that they are not racially bias and hence their tough approach. I may be wrong, it is just an opinion.

We are talking about the black v.o here and not all the V.Os. many V.O will just approve you just by liking the school you are going to. This particular black v.o can ask question as if she is looking for where you will fumble. So don't get me wrong

Visa approved 3rd of July, 2018. Lagos Consulate.

My interview transcript: cheesy cheesy cheesy

After highlighting from my Camry (LoL. I mean a Uber ride o) at the US embassy, I was motioned to come in for a check by a security officer. After the check was completed, he explained that a phone won't be allowed into the consulate. I had this knowledge even before he said this, but I had to come along with my phone because of the Uber app. Well, I was granted access into the consulate after giving the security officer what he requested for (N1,000 to help secure my phone). cheesy Everyone just using the slightest opportunity to hustle in Nigeria.

Well, after progressing through that stage, another check was done on us by some security officers too, to confirm that we are not in possession of the prohibited items mentioned. On completion of that, we were addressed by a female consulate officer and were told to arrange ourselves in two rows; first row was for immigrant visa, and the second row for non-immigrant visa. (while all these transpired, we were still outside the consulate). We were then ushered into the consulate. In the consulate, another security check was done. This time, we were told to unhook our belts and place in a tray. The tray contained our belts and our documents; the trays were taken past a security check machine to check for any suspicious object. When the checks were completed, we retrieved our belts and documents.

We were then ushered into another office for documents verification. When that was completed, we progressed into the next stage, which is the biometrics, where we had to do our fingerprints.

And here comes the next stage, which happens to be the most crucial stage; the interview proper - The Judgement Day (LoL).
The atmosphere was pretty tensed, seeing applicants receiving blue papers made matter even worse. At some point, I was getting scared, but I had to summon courage based on Edo boy wey I be. There was a guy who I even thought would have his visa approved; Lo and behold, he was denied, even after all his elaborate explanation. The guy already has a master's degree, but was going for another master's degree in the USA. There was another man who works with MTN Nigeria as a site engineer, but wanted to go for a master's degree in the USA. The guy did well to answer the questions thrown to him alas, he was still denied. At this point, I was scared to the bones. While I was standing there waiting for my turn I witnessed countless interviews ....And out of those interviews, I only noticed 3 approvals ( one was an elderly woman approved by a white American man at window 2. The other was a lady going for her master's degree approved by a white American woman at window 6. The other was a young man approved by a man at window 4).

Well, I happened to be interviewed by a black American woman ( chubby and darker than the black American woman at window 7) at window 5.

Well, to my interview proper:

The black American woman at window 5 motioned me to step forward. I advanced forward immediately.

VO: Good morning (before I could say good morning, she greeted first).

Me: Good morning, ma'am.

VO: Pass me your passport and I-20.

Me: I passed the requested documents.

VO: How did you hear about this school?

Me: I first read about it on some educational magazines. However, I didn't stop there, I had to do an extensive research on it using websites like usnews.com and thegradcafe (while I was saying usnews.com she joined me in saying 'oh you came accross it using educational websites!', and I responded to her in the affirmative).

VO: How many other schools did you apply to, and name them?

Me: 4 other schools. I was naming them as e dey hot, but she quickly jumped in by saying 'Hold on. Take it slowly'. I started again, and named all the schools while she typed, but this time, I did it slowly as she requested (Georgia State University, Ohio University, Louisiana State University and Oregon State University).

VO: What's your highest qualification?

Me: Bachelor of Science, Chemistry.

VO: When did you graduate?

Me: I graduated February 2012.

VO: So, what have you been doing since then?

Me: I went for a compulsory National Youth Service Scheme. After that I worked in XYZ Table Water Industry for 1 year as a quality control officer/production manager. I then proceeded from there to my current organization where I work as a billing officer.

VO: What is the name of the organization you currently work for?

Me: XYZ Electricity Distribution Company

VO: So, it means that your total work experience doesn't have any connection with your course of study ( She said this with her eyebrows raised and a weird look on her face.)?

Me: I quickly read her body language, and I knew that this woman wan change am for me o. For the first time, I thought to myself "Na so my village people wan take win this war?" . So I quickly responded, "that's not exactly the case ma'am". Like I said, I have worked as a quality control officer at Bamjoh Table Water Industry (While I was still talking, she realised this and quickly corrected herself by saying 'oh, you were once a quality control officer, I see') and this is related to Chemistry in every way.

VO: how did your course of study helped you ... muttering.. muttering....

Me: Ma'am, I didn't get you clearly.

VO: She repeated the question again, but I still didn't hear her clearly.

Me: I'm sorry ma'am, I still didn't get you well.

VO: This time around she then spoke up louder than before, and I heard her correctly. The question was, how did your course of study helped you in your previous work experience?

Me: I responded, 'oh, my course of study Chemistry, has a branch known as Analytical Chemistry. Analytical Chemistry deals with the qualitative and quantitative analysis of compounds, which of course deals with the determination of impurities in substances and as well as pH level when necessary. I was able to use this knowledge to determine the presence of impurities and pH level of water produced prior and after production as a quality control officer at XYZ table water industry.

VO: She nodded her head suggesting she's impressed with my response. She continued by asking another question: Who is paying for your tuition?

Me: I was offered a full tuition waiver, and a graduate assistant position worth BE,000 USD annually.

VO: But I can't see a full tuition waiver on your I-20. I can only see BE,000USD for an on campus job....still muttering some words.

Me: While she was muttering, I was searching for a document showing proof of my full funding in the documents in my possession. She noticed I was trying to reach out for a document, then she responded, 'don't worry, I don't need any other documents from you'. At this time, she realized I got a full tuition waiver after taking a sternly good look at the I-20.

VO: What is your on-campus job about?

Me: It's a graduate assistantship position where I would work as a teaching assistant in the first semester, and then apply for a research assistantship position in the second semester if I choose to.

VO: She nodded her head in affirmative.

VO: What will this degree do for you?

Me: I have a concrete plan, and that is to pick up a lecturing job at my Alma mater on completion of my PhD program come Fall 2023.... I was about adding more points when she interrupted me...

VO: What is the name of your Alma Mater

Me: The university of Benin.... I continued my conversation by adding that I have established a strong connection with a professor in my Alma mater who happened to be my undergraduate supervisor, and he has assured me that I will have a strong edge over other applicants by the time I am done with my PhD at Brigham Young University. I will also love to work as a research consultant for multinational organizations like shell and Chevron while I lecture in the university.

VO: In response to my reply she nodded her head again.

VO: Are you married?

Me: No, I am not married.

VO: Engaged?

Me: Not at all.

VO: Have you traveled out of the country at any time?

Me: No, I have never had any reason to travel out of the country until now.

VO: Then she typed for some seconds, and said those sweet words. I will be approving your visa.... Congratulations... Bla bla bla.
I was trying to get the other things she was saying, but I couldn't get her clearly at this point. I only heard that you will be notified when your passport is ready for pick up. LoL. I think I also heard her say something about keeping my I-20 safe... Bla bla bla. LoL.

I couldn't believe it at first, because the way she was asking me questions looked like she was finding a fault in my application so as to use that to deny me. I almost gave up and was like, 'abeg do your worst, I don tire jare'.

To God be praised. I walked out majestically while still trying to curtail the joy within me. I almost got myself imploded because the joy within me was massive and was ready to come out. LoL

Cheers!!!

Am happy you overcame this lady and the PhD program you were going for really helped. I hardly see PhD denial. The woman can drill someone and will keep asking you questions till she finds a fault to deny the person. Really happy for you. Congrats and may your journey be blessed

Visa Approved by 6:30am today.
I arrived the consulate at 5:10am and was able to be among the first 12 people to be attended to. The guy at window 4 interviewed me.

V.O: Good morning
ME: Good morning

(Pass me your passport and i-20)

V.O: Why are you going to the U.S
ME: I am going for my masters in computer science and quantitative methods with concentration in mathematical finance at the Austin Peay State University Clarksville, TN

V.O: Why this course?
Me: Having acquired a bachelor's degree in Industrial Mathematics. A master's degree in computer science and quantitative methods with concentration in mathematical finance will help me achieve my career goal of being a quantitative analyst in the investment banking and financial services industry in Nigeria.

V.O: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 3 schools

V.O: Name them?
ME: Austin Peay State University, Florida state University, North Carolina State University.

I also discovered from my research that majority of the faculty major in applied mathematics. I will like to work in such a department.

V.O: Are you married?
ME: No, I am not

V.O: Do you have kids?
ME: No, I don't

V.O: Have you travelled out before?
ME: No, i have had no reason to

V.O: What does he do?
ME: He is a member of the board of directors of an asset management firm (**** asset management Ltd) which is a member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

V.O: Do you have his bank statement?
ME: Yes (I then pass the SOA to him)

V.O: Your Visa is approved. You can go to the circled location on the white paper after 3 days to collect your passport. Kindly focus on your studies.
ME: Thank you

P.S: In all of these, i can say "IT CAN ONLY BE GOD".
Prepare as if God does not exist and Pray as if your preparations is Nothing.

Thanks to @Falana who helped to correct my transcript and helped with numerous mock interviews. My God bless you plenty.

Thanks to @Ubah1 who also helped in going through my proposed transcripts before the actual interview.

Thanks to the Queen of USA visa thread @lagosismyhome for always pointing out errors in people's transcripts. That really helped me a whole lot.

Thanks to the Nairaland Family. Preparing to meet TRUMP.

Congrats grin cheesy so happy for you. May God's blessings and favour follow you as yo embark on your journey to yankee

Mans stood there, listening to black american lady (as if a Chinese or European will be working as a VO) then knew that the candidate was going to a top school, fully funded. grin

The emboldened in your post is essentially what I said, but I understand the need retarrds have to speak out of turn. It is in their DNA.

I don't even know how to reply you. Carry your wahala and go. I TOO KNOW, is it today that people say black American? Abeg shift

All these super stories of fully funded people who got rejected. You guys must really think these VOs are fools. The simple fact is I genuinely do not believe any transcript with that information because I know the value that is attached to being fully funded.

Are you telling me, the US govt was willing to cough out hundred s of thousands of dollars for a student and another member of the same US govt will reject that person's visa appeal? I can't relate.

Nairaland is a faceless forum and as time has shown, people can type just about anything sometimes to invoke a reaction. Being fully funded, IMHO, is the surest bet of getting a visa. It may not be 100% foolproof but the situations extenuating such a circumstance will have to be something really shocking on the appellants part (like showing sympathy to extremist religious views on the DS160). I will even say 95% of people who are fully funded get their visas...once.

After this, you can now look at the quality of school, financial capacity of sponsor, presentation by the applicant, serendipity etc.

Stop saying poo , I have seen full funding from Top school (Over 55k$) rejected by that black American lady at US embassy Lagos. It’s not always about funding. If you are unlucky and couldn’t convince the V.O to his/her satisfaction, you will likely be refused. That doesn’t mean that funding isn’t the easiest way to get your visa as that shows you will go for your studies and not run away to hustle cos of lack of school fees. Funding makes everything easy but always prepare well whenever you are appearing before a V.O.

I think you should tell the Vo you wrote toefl and pray the VO wont ask the score. No standardized test is HUGE red flag. The gurus here know better

That's not true. Many have got their visa without any test. Be ready to back up anything you say else they will take it as lie and that will hamper the chances of you getting your visa

over 6M closing balance.. i-20 required $17k plus

I think the problem is from the funds available. Your tuition fee is 6m and the person sponsoring you has 6m. How will the person sponsoring you (your bro) cope after paying your tuition, 7m or more would have been better. Get a good SOA and reapply

Hi guys, I attended my interview today, 6.30am and I was handed over white paper with Administrative Processing ticked. My passport, I-20 and my dad statement of account was taken for further check. Could anyone help me with the link where I could check my status, as things progress and does Admistrative Processing calls for worry, if no, for how long could the visa be issued. Thanks.

If your documents were genuine, you don’t have to worry. Anyway use the link to check the status of your application

So I decided to join this forum because I didn't want anyone to fall mugu to any yeye visa agent like I did... It was really bad....I didn't know there could be some kind of reward in it for me.

Went for my visa today 6:30 am, it was just a fascinating conversation that left me deaf! cheesy

What visa agents do to people ehn? May God help us all, and the way people were by that gate waiting the coming of our Lord , just to see if you will come out with White or blue paper..how won't they refuse people!

If I start telling you there were blue papers then I may forget to tell you that they had wings / were flying....but you my friend are different so believe and go for it!

Me: Good morning ..

Vo: Good morning ma'am, pass me your I-20 and
passport... how are you today?

Me: I'm okay, how are you?

Vo: Oh! I'm fine, thanks. What state did you say you are
going to again?

Me: Florida,....Miami Florida.

Vo: What school are you going to there?

Me: Florida international university.

Vo: Oh! And which program?

Me: International business....

Vo: Why this school?

Me: Out of all the schools I applied to, they offered me
graduate assistantship.....

Vo: Ooh! Hmp!

Me: .... that covers some of my tuition expenses and
stipends.

Vo: Types... Looking at me from somewhere else while
typing...

Me: Looking at her while admiring her person.... grin wink

Vo: So you picked this school because of the funding?

Me: Yes! I did..... and their school ranks 7th in
international business...

Vo: Oh!! Typing...so did you take any test for this
funding...

Me: Ma,am??

Vo: Did you take any test?

Me: Oh! Yes I took my GRE, I scored .. ***..

Vo: Could you tell me the break down?

Me : The verbal is uhmm... ***, quantitative is ***,
analytical is *!

Vo: hmmm...typing and looking at me from a screen or
something somewhere...

Vo: What do you plan to do with this degree?

Me: I want to be able to own and manage a
consultancy firm of my own in the future ....that will
focus mainly on exportation of goods and
services here in Nigeria.

Vo: Ooh okay!!! Who is paying?

Me: My uncle is sponsoring, my mom will be
supporting me where necessary... I Laugh.

Vo: She laughs grin cheesy do you have their SOA?

Me: Yes! yes I do..... Fetching only my uncle's SOA
,..she was watching me caaaarefully like a
hawk....I hand it to her.

Vo: Looks and says "you are sure your uncle is okay
with you taking this"? It's very bulky.......she sighs
and look through, laughing.

Me: Yes!

Vo: What does this your uncle do?

Me: He owns a haulage company of his own and fuel
station
around the Eastern part of the country.

Vo: hmhmm!

She seem to be looking at my face on a screen somewhere.... Or something..

Vo: Are you married?

Me: No, I'm single .

Vo: Any kid ..

Me: No, I laughed ...

Vo: Laughed too.... You mean no child outside
wedlock...

Me: I smiled, chuckled then shook my head... wink (in my
mind { abeg make una no koba meoo, I no know if
