Scan all the supporting documents and send it through the feedback tab on your appointment booking page. If you don't hear back from them after some time, place a call through to them. This is a serious case.

This won't help much, I will suggest he mail lagosniv@state.gov

Good morning guys. I had my interview today, was given the blue paper.

Lagos Embassy. 6:30am slot. One white male like that.

VO: Good morning. Pass me your passport and I20.
Me: Good morning. There you go. (passed docs)

VO: Which course do you want to study in the US?
Me: MS in mechanical engineering at the California State university Sacramento.....

VO: (cuts in) Why mechanical?
Me: (still speaking)..... I'll be concentrating in Manufacturing and Material Engineering.

VO: OK. Why manufacturing?
Me: Presently, the Nigerian manufacturing industry is faced with a lot of challenges, many of which affect the quality of products we put out and the efficiency of our production processes. From my experience in the field, I've been able to identify some of these challenges, and I see them as opportunities. Last year I co-founded and registered a digital startup, and our medium to long-term goal for the business is to advance solutions and technologies to help increase machine performance, reduce wastes and speed up transformation (stuttered here for a second) of industrial processes and automation in the Nigerian manufacturing industry. This master's course for me is a significant (stuttered here for a second again) step towards achieving that goal.

VO: ok. Who's paying for your program?
Me: My uncle is my sponsor.

VO: What does he do?
Me: He's the ceo of *****, a tech company here in Lagos.

VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: No. I'm a very busy person and never really had any reason to travel, until now.

VO: Are you married?
Me: No

VO: Any kids?
Me: No.

VO: (eyes on the screen the entire time) I'm sorry, at this time, you do not qualify for... Yen yen yen... (hands the blue paper). This will explain more.
Me: Alright. Thank you. (collects blue paper and walks away)

Other info:
I have a B.eng in chemical engineering, with 6 months graduate internship experience and 1 year nysc experience ; all around manufacturing. I've been running a co-founded registered startup for over 5 months now, while preparing for grad school.

Also, my school's orientation is today, I tried getting an extension of resumption letter from the school, but the lady said they don't provide such, but that she'd make a note on my file for a make up orientation to be arranged when I arrived. I went with a printout of the email today, but was not asked about that.

Please I need a critical assessment of the above convo. What might be the possible cause of the denial. I'm considering planning towards fall, but I need to know what areas I can improve on before then, aside traveling for the aim of gaining travel experience though.

Guys, I need advice.

You are switching from chemical to mechanical. That's the issue I see here and I guess that's why the v.o refused you. You don't even have enough experience to explain why you are switching. May be you should apply to material science and engineering, it's a branch of Chemical Engineering and have that written on your i20 instead of mechanical engineering

Had my interview today. To be honest with you all ehn. I cannot comprehend all I said to get the white paper. It was like something else assumed me. I'm saying because I can't give a transcript and I know I learnt a lot from reading people's transcript.

It was my first time though.
It was an MBA program with focus on financial management and investment.
Lincoln university California is the school.

But my advice is simple. Know well about the course you are going for. Please don't cram.

Thank you nairalanders.. You groomed me!!!

Congrats. Nice seeing someone with Lincoln university i20 getting approved. This will instill hope in many others going for their interview with same school, as some call lincoln university - "Visa mill university".

Bro, for the last time, will the fact that my i20 date is 7th likely be an issue? my interview is 14th and extension letter is 28th.

Plus if one gets a visa and defers to the next semester, will he/she need to apply for visa again?

There is no issue with that since your school has given you extension letter.

If you get your visa and decides to defer, your visa will still be valid for the duration it was given. You don't have to reapply again. All you need is a new i20 for the term you deferred to.

Thanks is it neccesary to take GRE(since Ielts is commonly waved for Nigerians).

How can one pick the the "test" to write between GMAT and GRE?

GRE is compulsory for most PhD program in USA. So it's important you write it. English test can be waived for most schools.

boss I printed my new appointment confirmation immediately after updating my ds160 number (last week). Hope the barcodes on my new ds160 and appointment confirmation will be the same cos I read one guy saying his barcodes weren't the same so he was turned back at the embassy. Thanks boss, you've really been of help

If the update is successful, it should be the same. Just print a new appointment confirmation showing the new number.

Good day Fam,

Compliment of the season Everyone. My visa was denied yesterday at Abuja Embassy. Just two questions and straight denial.

How did you get this school?

Firstly from Prof Taylor who is a professor of Economics at CMU and I did my personal research about the school

How many schools did you apply to?
CMU, WSU, MSU and WIU

Why did you apply to those schools?

they all have low faculty to student ratio, which means faculty members can spend more time working individually with student

Green paper

Note the resumption date on my i20 is also the same day my school resumes. (interview 7th of Jan and school resumes same 7th of Jan )

Which of the CMU? If it's California miramar university, forget it.

Good morning boss. My interview is around the corner. Which is better

Are you married?NO
Are you engaged? NO
Have you ever traveled out of Nigeria? NO

Or
Are you married? No. My girlfriend and I will be getting married shortly after my masters program
Are you engaged? Not yet
Have you ever traveled out of Nigeria? No, I have never had a reason to

Depends on the V.O you meet, some may find one word answer offensive, some might not. Your reply should flow with the conversation. Whether engaged or not, you are still single.

Sorry for your unfortunate delay... My observation is as follows
You could have prepared a better response for the bolded response ahead of your interview! Saying your confidence level has improved is vague. It simply means you didn't understand why you were denied the first 2 times. If you did, you would have brought them into the discussion. I presume you were denied based on Section 214(B)? You would have found ways to demonstrate strong ties to Nigeria... You're single, you're not employed or self employed? You don't have university funding... You could have done better.

You said What's on my mind. Saying your confidence level is better now is a big turn off. How does that does show ties that the V.O is looking for, as she sees you as potential immigrant? He shouldn't give up, some even got it at the 7th time. Let him prepare well and refire during fall.

How do they verify the extension because from what my school sent me, it's something that can be easily forged.

Is it not USA you are entering, if you decide to forge it and the POE officer decides to call your school at point of entry. How do you save yourself from such situation?

Once for b1/b2 and twice for f1.
He said his cousin is a citizen.
Could this be the reason?

Depends on how the cousin became a citizen and if he listed him on his ds 160.

Visa delayed at the Lagos consulate this morning

VO....Good morning
Me ....Good morning
VO .....So why did you chose Austin Peay state university.
Me.....I have been in constant communication with Prof Joseph Elarde even before I decided to apply. He is spareheading a reaserech on network security systems precisely offfensive-defensive based network security systems and I would be on his research team for the next two years. Besides this, the concentration at this university is information assurance and security unlike the other university that gave me admission that has cyber security has its concentration. Cyber security is a subset of information assurance and security. So going with APSU is like killing two birds with one stone.
VO ....The course you told me you are going for is different from what I see on the i20.
Me.... Yes. The Tennessee higher education commission accreditation of computer science is registered on their database as warehousing and data database administration. I have a doc from the school that clarifies that. I gave it to him.

VO... so who is paying your tuition?
Me..... I got a GTA that covers my full cost of tuition and some Monthly stipends. The rest of the expenses will be sorted by my uncle and my personal savings. Passes the statement.

VO... tell me how you got this huge scholarship.
Me ..... The award committee must have been impressed by my SOP and my recommendation letters was written by professors who had adequate knowledge of my abilities during undergraduate studies.
Types forever ....
VO ......sorry I won’t be approving your visa at this time .....bla bla bla

Thanks for everyone for their inputs. I have to give it a break. Not giving up tho.

Sorry for the delay. It's not just your time yet. Refire for fall entry

Also bro I got engaged in November, so I used "other" as marital status on ds160 and I explained. When I was denied by the black vo in July, my marital was single. What do you think, or should I just change it back to single?

Plus bro, if I want to make a small change in my ds160 after booking interview, how can I do it without filling another ds160 from beginning to end all over again.
Thanks bro, I appreciate

Whether engaged, you are still single if you are not officially married. I will prefer you maintain single as it doesn't affect your chances.

As for the ds 160 form, you can use the old confirmation number that starts with AA0*** to recreate another one. Just use the retrieve option on the site
