Hi Ubah1, please I have a few questions. I was denied in Jan, have an interview this month 1) Can I give a different answer to a question like what do you want to do with this degree, different from the one I gave the last time 2) Can I talk until they cut me off or it's better to give short answers 3) when they ask what my sponsor does, can I also go on to explain what the company does, in addition 1) Considering the short time between your previous interview and the next one you are having, i dont think there is any significant changes in your profile, so try and unify all your answers as you don't know what the previous V.O commented on your profile while interviewing you 2. Kinda trickish, there is a time to keeping talking and a time to give short and concise answer, also depends on the V.O you will meet next, so know how you will strike a balance. 3. Just talk about what they asked you, don't deviate. You don't have much time for unnecessary talks. |

LordSir1: Hello house please I'm currently in a dilemma. I recently got my visa for fall, however due to personal reasons I'm considering deferring my my admission for a year. I want to know how best to go about this and if I'll need to reapply for a visa if I should go this route. I'll really appreciate your help. Your visa is valid for 2yrs. You don't need to attend another interview. All you need to do is to get a new i20 for the session your are planning to resume. So inform your school about your decision. 1 Like |

I wish to share my Visa interview transcript (approved) Me: Good morning VO: Good morning. Pass your Passport and I-20 VO: Why are you going to the US? Me: I’m going to the US to pursue a Doctorate degree in Computer Science at the Manhattan Campus of Kansas State University VO: Why KSU? Me: From my findings, KSU has a very high research activity status. In fact, the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland and Security have designated the Centre for information of the University as a National Centre of Academic excellence in cyber defense research. The computer science three-pronged motto of world class faculty, world class education and world class research, coupled with the presence of three robust data science laboratories makes KSU a great platform for me to… (VO cuts in) VO: Tell me about your background Me: I hold a Bachelors of Science degree and majored in Statistics and Computer Science with a first class honors. I went further to study for Master of Science in Statistics VO: So why are you going for a PhD in Computer Science? Me: The world today is marked with an explosion of large volume of data, data that are potentially useful and informative but structurally complex and requires algorithms and techniques to determine the patterns/trends so as to aid effective decision making. I’d like to be a part of the research team that would develop novel techniques to unfold these complexities. I intend to achieve this by integrating my knowledge of statistics and computer programming VO: Are you married? Me: (Smiles) No, I’m not yet married VO: Okaaaay, your Visa is approved. {She passed me a white paper and my from I-20} Me: (Wider Smiles) Thank you {Got an email the following day to pick up my passport at the address I chose on the visa application which also reflected on the white paper she gave me}
Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! I hope to read success stories in torrents. May God grant you uncommon favor in your interviews. Cheers!

temidayodamoye: Please I've a Bsc in Petroleum Engineering and would like to do my MSC in the same or related field, My WES iGPA calculation was 3.44/4. I just registered for GRE and TOEFL, I'm preparing towards fall 2020. I know most schools request for 3.00 GPA, but i would like to know if I stand a chance, since Engr courses are usually competively and I hope to get fundings as well. Your response and advice would be highly appreciated. Cheers! Your GPA is very okay. Put more effort in getting a good GRE score, preferably 320+ and apply for PhD programs. You will definitely get funding. Most Schools doesn't fund Msc programs and funding for MSc is more competitive, that's why i advice you focus on PhD program where you can easily get fully funded offer. 3 Likes |

SOJ2019: Hello guys
I recently contacted the graduate school of Northern Arizona University to make inquires as regards a master's program and the availability of scholarships and fellowships etc. In her recent reply, she told me my GPA was "a bit low" to be considered for scholarship. This reply prompted me to convert my GPA of 3.75/5.0 via the free WES GPA calculator.
The final result was 3.27/4.0. This result left me wondering...hence,I have a couple of questions to ask
# Inferring from the "lady's reply",could it be that my final result of (3.27/4.0) is unreliable? OR
My final result via the use of the free WES GPA calculator differs from what you get if I had forwarded my transcript to WES for evaluation?
#Perhaps,a GPA of 3.28/4.0 and above is required to be qualified for "those scholarships" @ NAU.
WES is lenient when doing conversion, they don't include failed courses. Most schools uses in-house evaluation and maybe that's what your school used. Most times, they include your failed courses and this in turn reduces your final GPA. |

Arguing about this is a waste of precious time. I don't expect you to accept but your acceptance doesn't change the fact about it. It's just like saying someone shouldn't have a 1-page resume because he has multiple jobs and several awards whereas, a lot of top CEOs and very accomplished people still find space to make their resumes a single page.
If your school tells you they read your 6 page SOP, they're lying to you. Don't even bother replying cos I'll ignore. You speak with so much confidence. Why arguing over something you are not certain about. Some schools have the time and read everything. Some GC even told me that. 80% of schools require max of 2page SOP, some max of 500 words while others don't give any specification for SOP. Please speak on only what you are 100% sure of since you haven't for once joined an admission committee. 9 Likes |

Okay. The screenshot was from College of Art and Science requirements. On the department requirement you have this that in addition to the requirements byy the college of art and science.
Well i may agree with you, buh lets wait and see other applications. Cheers Yeah, that means applicants must first meet the college of arts and science requirement. From what I have read so far from their site, the Department doesn't use it for admission purposes. That's a good one for those with low GRE score, they can look for department that doesn't lay emphasis on GRE score and apply there. Thanks for the update. |

Dont say what you dont know. Check their requirements and see for yourself. I sent my official GRE score to them cos it was part of my application checklist. Before my GRE got to them by ETS, my application was pending. A friend of mine encouraged me to apply after he had GRE 287 and still had Full funding in three good schools in the US. He is currently there right now. Cheers That you sent it doesn't mean they require it. I have checked and didn't see it on their admission requirement. You can show me too with a screenshot. |

pflourish: I have a GRE score of 140V & 152Q, I intended to pursue postgraduate studies in Electrical Engineering in the US. I have been searching for schools that admit within 290-300 GRE score, pls any school suggestion that caliber is highly welcomed. Also I finished B.Eng Elect/Elect with a CGPA of 3.80/5.00 but after conversion with the WES website online, it turn out to be 3.26/4.00. pls how true is that?. Lastly, paraventure I was admitted, could such a low GRE score jeopardize my chances of getting a visa at the embassy? Your score will not jeorpadize your chances of getting visa. You should be more worried of your chances of getting admission with that score. Though some people have gotten admission and funding with that score range, you too can but most schools have started releasing offers of admission, so have to search more for schools that still have their admission window open. Auditmonkey: Hello everyone.
I am applying for Masters in Accounting in the US. I have some questions about applying to Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Is there anybody who has studied there before that can answer some questions please?
1. Do they require WES evaluation for the MSA? (the application requirement page and the applytexas portal says no, but the Graduate student services coordinator who I emailed said I need to send a WES evaluation)
2. How is funding over there? Is there a possibility of full tuition waiver?
3. Can anybody explain the assistanship policy? I read it and it left me more confused than before.
I have 3.03/5 GPA (Economics) , 311 GRE (161 V) and 107 TOEFL (all 28 except speaking 23).
Do you think my profile is competitive for the program?
Other schools I've applied to are: 1. UT Dallas 2. College of William and Mary 3. Wake forest University 4. Bentley University 5. UMD 1. Yes, Texas A&M University-Commerce now requires WES Evaluation. 2. If you get a Teaching assistantship/Research Assistantship position at Texas A&M University-Commerce, your tuition fee will be waived and some stipend paid to you. There are several type of funding in Texas A&M University-Commerce like the Julie Gouch scholarship, this scholarship if awarded qualifies you to pay fees as in-state student thereby reducing over 50% of the fees. As for the schools you applied to, wake forest and Williams & Mary college are top ranked schools, your GPA is not competitive for such school. They require minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 1 Like |

chqakinns: Goodevening everyone..I really commend this informative thread,u have been wonderful..I have applied for Masters in School counselling in Us but my first degree was Sociology. My application has regerds the school documents have been completed but from what i read here,i discovered that i have to applied to four different universities to bright my chances, and again i was given a waiver for toefl..My question is; 1-Must i write a standardize test to brighten my chances of d visa 2-Which other 3 universities can i applied to that i can meet up d fall 2019 and with scholarship? Pls advice me on the right steps to take to put me on d path to success.
Pls i need your candid advice 1. If you have gotten admission already and the school you applied to is a credible one, you don't have need for standardized test. Taking Standardized test shows you are a serious student and it's always advisable for students to write it, though it's not a must. 2. You have to search for this yourself. Most scholarships are for STEM courses. 1 Like |

LordSir1: Good day house, I plan on going for a MEng Electrical engineering in the US and I’m considering some schools (in Texas); University of texas arlington University of houston Texas Tech Tamu college station Tamu kingsville Lamar university.
Please I would like to know if I’m required to secure a supervisor prior to applying for admission (I’m going for a non thesis, coursework program MEng), I just sent a mail to the schools concerning this but I’ll also appreciate your input. Thanks
For MEng program anywhere , you don't need to secure a supervisor as it is coursework program. The reason why most people don't go for MEng program is because it's not funded and normally expensive. If you have the resources, you can go on with the application. Am sure you will secure an admission easily for MEng. |

@ JoeBazz Ubah1:
Well, If am you, I will avoid schools under ACICS as their accreditation were revoked in 2016 and later reinstated temporarily in April 2018. Students going to the embassy with those schools might get visa refusal as ACICS recognition isn't in full force yet.
Here is a link to know schools under ACICS :
http://personify.acics.org/ACICSMemberDirectory.aspx
Some of the popular ones used by Nigerians are:
1. iGlobal University 2. Virginia International University 3. California Miramar University 4. Northwestern Polytechnic University 5. Bryan University 6. Lincoln University, CA 7. Colorado Heights University 8. Stratford University 9. Pacific Institute of Technology 10. University of North America 11. Texas Health and Science University
Here is the announcement of Department of Education on this issue.
https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/2016/12/acics-loss-of-accreditation-what-it-means-for-schools-and-international-students
My advise is for students is to avoid schools under ACICS until it's fully recognised by the U.S Department of Education |
